Computers / Re: Tor & Y'messenger by Ralvy(m): 1:45pm On May 06, 2010
I've also had problems with Tor and Y! Messenger. So I use Pidgin instead and it works perfectly.
Does anyone know the proxy settings to use with UltraVPN, I get it connected in stealth mode but can't tunnel my applications through it.

Computers / Re: Ps3 Hardware Problem by Ralvy(m): 12:26pm On Mar 26, 2010
The xbox 360 is a bit behind when it comes to all round entertainment, while hard core gamers will probably prefer the 360. Regardless, both the Xbox 360, as well as the PS3 have their own pros and cons, so it might be better to get both smiley.

Computers / Re: Non Activation Of My 1gb Bundle From Zain by Ralvy(m): 12:21pm On Mar 26, 2010
"Zain is the portfolio coy of the decade", Lol!
I never really used their network and I wasn't even aware they were a 3G network. Someone advised me to buy their USB modem last week but I was eerie about it. I use MTN and it's manageable.

Computers / Re: Non Activation Of My 1gb Bundle From Zain by Ralvy(m): 11:53am On Mar 26, 2010
Probably a glitch on their network, it seems they're deducting internet charges from your actual airtime account instead of the (activated?) 1gb bundle rate. That message doesn't say anything relating to your issue, so it's most likely one of their response templates, I'd encourage you to find a Zain care point close to you and lay your complaints in person.

Computers / Re: Strictly Internet Speed Screen Shots by Ralvy(m): 11:27am On Mar 26, 2010
Leuelliot,
Looking at that screen-shot, I don't see anything to be speechless about as that's relatively poor (yeah I said "poor"wink, but can be considered manageable in Nigeria. Perhaps, I'm a maniac, but look at the image again, it's showing kb which is completely different from KB which is depicted on IDM screen-shots. For a breakdown:

Kilobyte (KB or K) = 1024 bytes (2 ^ 10) "binary kilobyte"
kilobyte (kB) = 1000 bytes (10 ^ 3) "decimal kilobyte"

Kilobit (Kb) = 1024 bits (2 ^ 10) "binary kilobit"
kilobit (kb) = 1000 bits (10 ^ 3) "decimal kilobit"

Browsers, download managers and other Internet applications show transfers in KBps (kilobytes per second). In order to get the approximate number of bits in a figure, you should understand that they're 8kb (bits) in every KByte so a multiplication by 8 would depict the actual # of bits. As such, I'm also downloading at approximately 2197 kb which isn't too far from yours, just a few KBytes ahead of me smiley.

Programming / Re: Html And Css Coding. by Ralvy(m): 10:22am On Mar 26, 2010
I don't like Visual Web Developer, although I think it's okay for people who develop limited number of applications in a hurry, but for me it's a worthless piece of garbage, thankfully you don't have to pay for it. For diagnosis like this, I use the Web Developer extension (Firefox addon, google it). I think [Unknown] has a link to it.

Computers / Re: Strictly Internet Speed Screen Shots by Ralvy(m): 10:05am On Mar 26, 2010
Austinyet, you're using the "free" package of YourFreedom with a set limit of 65bits/s. Using an online bits calculator to convert bits to bytes, you're surfing at approximately 8.2Kbytes/s which is quite poor. You may consider switching to another proxy tunneling application for better speeds or purchase a YourFreedom basic account, about $5 IIRC smiley.

Also measuring your download speeds using Internet Download Managers isn't reliable and should not be regarded as concrete analysis because the speed of each download depends on several factors, like your local network setup, the location of the servers hosting the served file and a bunch of others. Anyway, attached is an IDM shot.

Computers / Re: Ps3 Hardware Problem by Ralvy(m): 9:47am On Mar 26, 2010
That's weird, what have you done to it since you bought it? Installed additional operating systems, upgraded the firmware? How much data do you have on it and what do you try to do before it freezes?

Well, honestly I think the name changing is superfluous, but I've got to say; I think this company (AirTel) has some focus and will take Zain to it's ordained level.

muyiscoi:

As for the reviews, i read one recently where the guy seemed to think that ubuntu 10.04 beta is "bloody brilliant". you can check out the review here http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2010/03/23/ubuntu-10-4-beta-is-bloody-brilliant/

Interesting read there, looking at those screenshots, it's dreadfully clear that the ubuntu developers have finally woken up. I'm currently downloading beta 1, I hope I have nothing but good things to say about it.

Computers / Re: What Determines The Speed Of A Laptop Pc Out Of Ths Two? by Ralvy(m): 12:07am On Mar 25, 2010
For me, that wouldn't be a tough decision. It's always been part of my nature to stay off AMD processors. To the best of my knowledge, Intel's dual and quad core processors are superior to AMDs, If it was my decision, I'll ditch the 2.4ghz processor and go Intel without a second thought, but that's just me smiley.

Computers / Re: Ps3 Media Server - Windows 7 Setup? by Ralvy(m): 10:54pm On Mar 24, 2010
I don't get you. Are you asking if my router is a wired/wireless router or if I'm connected to the router in a wired/wireless setup? Google can confirm that the WRT160N v2 routers have both wired and wireless support, so there's your answer from google. As for my connection, everything is connected wirelessly (Yea, Bad word). If it helps, I use the same network for remote play from my PlayStation Portable and that works flawlessly.

P.S. My PS3 is 100 (No client name).

Programming / Re: How Do I Code And Configure Smtp To Send Mail In My Script by Ralvy(m): 10:37pm On Mar 24, 2010
Well, it really depends on your server environment and configuration. Dellnet has used the standard mail() function which should be sufficient for a simple mail script. However, it's possible that your host has the standard mail() function disabled for security reasons, in such cases you're required to dispatch mails via a configured SMTP Server and that is possibly where your problem lies as most SMTP servers are setup to reject relaying mails without SMTP authentication that you're permitted to relay e-mails using that server, one major reason being "spam".
Do you have basic knowledge or considerable experience in socket programming? It might be easier for you to just build an SMTP client. I remember doing one in C language for a client, will probably search my archives for a copy.

Computers / Ps3 Media Server - Windows 7 Setup? by Ralvy(m): 9:25pm On Mar 23, 2010
Hey. I was wondering if they're any PS3 owners here who have successfully setup their computers to act as media servers for the ps3 console. I can't get the ps3 to find my laptop and both devices are connected to a WRT160N v2 router with UPnP enabled. Windows Media Player 12 (w7) doesn't work, I'm yet to try Nero's media server feature. Any other recommendations?

Software/Programmer Market / Re: Job Portal Script For Sell by Ralvy(m): 2:23pm On Jan 06, 2010
First, there's no PM system here. And why shell out $50 for a job script when you can get them free online and do some minor edits to make them work the way you want them to. For anyone that needs this, check out PHP Resource Index, they're a lot of free scripts listed on there.
