Recently, I sold my Dell GX150 workstation to purchase a mac book pro!
My experience on mac has been wonderful considering the fact that I got to install Hardy Heron on it!

Haven't looked at the link, but obviously - It means the sales of Windows XP by Microsoft will be stopped!

XP will still be available for download via torrents, etc!

did you buy the laptop brand new? or is it used? if its used, its possible that the bluetooth and infrared are disabled via the bios.

And also possible that the first owner formatted the system and lost drivers

Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows NT -> Winlogon – on the right pane, You will find “Userinit”

Edit the string and leave the value as “C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,”
Exactly the way I have written it.

What the Virus did was to add another file. .
i.e after the , - it will add C:\Windows\system32\[Virus name]. .
So both files are executed when You’re logging in. . So its like the virus file has been integrated into Winlogon!
In this case, Avast has already deleted the file so the system cannot find this file to login with, so its like – You told me to do this and the file is not there . .
So it logs you off immediately. . Changing it back to the value above will put things in order. . I did a silly test with “Gongo Aso” on a friend’s Laptop and the Song just kept playing, and cannot be ended via Task Manager because it will be seen as a “Critical Process”.

To accomplish this, the Registry on the Infected OS has to be edited. .
So, I advice you to install Windows XP on the same hard drive, Enter the registry, then Load Hives [Your infected OS registry files]. .

The file you will be editing is located here:

“C:\WINDOWS\system32\config” and is called “SOFTWARE”, NOT “SOFTWARE.SAV” – Take Note.

Another easy way is to open the system, take out the hard drive, slave it and edit it. .

What I do in times like this is have all setup files from the XP CD and just install XP using the HDD only!
Sometimes, installing XP on an alternate machine then cloning the hard disk is a good option. .
But that's only if u have similar systems b'cos Windows XP Installation configures hardware as the OS is been re-established on the machines. .

Has the HDD being fully formatted?

No one here was talking about changing the drive letters of their system here. .
I read that somewhere . . Installing Windows on an empty hard drive will automatically allocate Drive letter C:

The same with some phones, the manufacturer ensures that all files are stored at Drive C:
Drive C is kinda like the default for these OEMs

yh . .Thats true, on a system - You can change the drive letters of any partitions using the "Microsoft Management Console"
But chaning the drive letter for a partition with a master boot record is definitely not recommended for non-advanced users like us
