Programming / Re: Post Your PHP Questions Here by Ralvy(m): 4:04pm On Dec 26, 2009 |
Sorry, but I read your post. To be honest, I don't have the will to go through 7 pages of mixed turorials / questions to help. If the tutorial was posted first, and the following were questions, It'd have made a lot more sense as It'll have been easier to track individual queries, but considering how clogged the topic appears to be, I'll rather keep off . If someone still needs help, they're welcome to post here . -[n3rve] |
Computers / Re: *~ Dual Core Voted Best Computers/Internet Poster Of The Year*~ by Ralvy(m): 4:01pm On Dec 26, 2009 |
Dual Core: Lol! It wouldn't be a hard bug to fix. If I can see the ./Themes/default/Display.template.php file of the forum, I can post the code changes to resolve that. -[n3rve] |
Programming / Re: Post Your PHP Questions Here by Ralvy(m): 9:49pm On Dec 25, 2009 |
While that's a fair tutorial, it doesn't prevent questions from coming in. Considering my reply here, this topic will be tracked and I can be contacted for PHP problems as well. -[n3rve] |

Lol! Don't open up a can of "whoop ass" on the poor moderator already? I agree, there's actually no valid point to justify this but it might help aid community interaction. [size=1]Side note:[/size]: Perhaps, it's just me? But there appears to be a bug with the Poll system. I see a link to login or register when I'm already authenticated. -[n3rve] |

Computers / Re: 1tb External Hard Disk by Ralvy(m): 9:33pm On Dec 25, 2009 |
lynxnoon: Hey Lynxmoon, how're you? As regards the external power hurdle, honestly. I don't think it will be for me, there are a lot of stuff that I'd rather not delete but have backed up for security reasons. 4llerbuntu: Well, bearing in mind that it'll be used as a backup drive, the risk are actually slim (for me). I already have a laptop with 320 GB which is more than enough for quotidian operations. As regards power outage during data transfer, this wouldn't be happening often enough to cause the disk to fail, granted bad clusters could be developed but we can't rule out the use of these devices due to the current power generation state in the country. flyuche: Now, that's really cool and looks almost exactly like my WD 320 GB, storage space gets bigger but the size remains the same, lol! I wouldn't mind getting one of those, honestly. -[n3rve] |

Thanks for the information from the topic. I'm going to need one of those 1TB externals 'cos my 250GB PC's yearning for free space like a baby needs milk especially considering my kid brother bricked my WD 320 GB -[n3rve] |

Politics / Re: Governor Suswam Caught Leaving The Country With Billions? by Ralvy(m): 5:16am On Sep 16, 2009 |
[me=Ralvy]was patiently waiting for this to hit the internet [/me] http://www.freshfactsnewsonline.net/_c0.htm Soon after he left Abuja for the United States of America, information filtered to Abuja and Makurdi that one of the Governor’s aides was caught with 3.8 million US dollars cash on arrival in the US. The unnamed aide is said to have told security agents that the money belonged to his boss, the state Governor. The State government stated that the claims are false but I think we know better |

Mafia4life: Well, that's entirely your opinion. He did a very great job at compiling those songs especially one I was searching for when google brought me here (wetin dey - Jesse Jags). I downloaded the 70mb+ bundle, thanks FreshestDj, perhaps, next time attach single files or package them up in a .zip/.tar.gz/.rar archive instead of the 70mb+ mp3 file. |
Computers / Re: Ubuntu Linux by Ralvy(m): 12:16am On Sep 10, 2009 |
Lerbe: As regards slow downloads. You may open System -> Administration -> Software Sources Download From: From the drop down, select other and choose "Select Best Server", a series of tests would be conducted (basically it would ping several servers) and output one with the best reply, you should select that one and reload the terminal and run: Sudo apt-get update As for the terminal, usually a CTRL + C like the windows cmd prompt should cancel any running process? |

The news came into the state today, I've been hearing it from different ends, but by tomorrow, the papers should have it logged, so a link will be provided. |

I've just heard that the Governor of Benue State was caught leaving the country with billions. He claims that he was going to buy foreign pigs to come and bring up in the country. |
Education / Re: ASUU May Call Off Strike. by Ralvy(m): 10:55pm On Sep 09, 2009 |
While I really want to see that the strike is called off pretty soon. I'm afraid the economical and educational system in the country is pretty much ineffective now, I'm considering a switch. Perhaps, a private university or some near by decent county. Malaysia or something :-s |

Not all of those are safe. If I need a proxy, I use Your-Freedom on Ubuntu, and for Microsoft users, there's a windows version as well . |
Computers / Re: Ubuntu Linux by Ralvy(m): 9:41am On Sep 05, 2009 |
mufasa: You already said you have a partitioned hard drive (you dual boot Windows and Linux (Hardy)). I hope you don't overwrite both partitions, and the way to make sure that doesn't happen is to choose "manual partitioning". Make sure you pick the existing ext3 partition, format it and give it the mount point /. Pick your existing swap partition out too. |
Computers / Re: Ubuntu Linux by Ralvy(m): 9:55pm On Sep 04, 2009 |
mufasa: Pretty straight forward . When you get to the partitioning stage, check "Specify partitions manually (Advanced)", hardy should be installed on an 'ext3' partition, so select that for Jaunty's ext3 filesystem and set "/" as the mount point, you should be fine using the existing swap space. Please i know this issue has been discussed over and over. I use gNOME PPP as my GUI for connecting my modems (Starcomms and Nokia N-series), i recently got this Visafone Haier CDMA and the Gnome PPP doesnt detect it as a modem any time i connect it. How can i use the Haier (Via Gnome PPP or otherwise)? Perhaps, you should upgrade to Jaunty and see if it supports it out of the box, if it doesn't, then you go 'driver hunting'. |

Computers / Re: Ubuntu Linux by Ralvy(m): 12:43pm On Jul 15, 2009 |
bigbrovar: Bigbrovar, please, don't leave like that. I had the exact same thing happen to me and all I did was clicked the 'Report to Moderator' link in one post and inform them of the issue. Ideally, it's pretty much stupid and insensitive to think that an active participant of the community with over 500 posts would post spam. Perhaps, it was a (stupid?) mistake. Some Administrators or Moderators need to be (re)introduced (bad english) to the term 'spam' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam). |
Computers / Re: Ubuntu Linux by Ralvy(m): 8:35am On Jul 14, 2009 |
danexd: That's a decision most of us had to make. But I don't think it's such a drastic move considering the fact that you can revert back to Windows or simply dual boot (run both windows and Linux). With Linux, you won't have virus problems as linux is pretty much immune to all that. Most win32 applications have Linux alternatives, although Linux is a bit internet dependent, you should enjoy it. So here we go, i tried downloading the iso like suggested somewhere on this thread but was getting 45kb of data and can't write it on a cd. Perhaps, your internet connection is not the way forward . A standard Ubuntu .iso shouldn't be less than 600MB, depending on your internet connection, downloading that will be like playing 'whack-a-mole'. 45Kb is definitely, not it, unless it's a .torrent file you downloaded or an .iso file to grab the other packages off the internet as you attempt to install which isn't recommended. and pls house am a bit confused with all those mint, gloria.kde stuff are they the same ubuntu os, The best thing for you to do is take some time off, read tons of guides / articles on the internet and with no time, you'll get to understand things. Linux mint is an operating system, much like Ubuntu. Gloria is the default desktop on Mint. KDE is a desktop environment that can be installed on existing linux operating systems. It does basically what the win32 explorer does such as provide basic / advanced desktop functionality and applications for your daily need. The default DM in ubuntu Gnome which, IMO is pretty much stable until you break it like mine. My location is Enugu, can someone help me with a cd. Sadly, I can't help you with that. I'm currently in Abuja chilling with my folks (thanks to ASUU) and will be back to Benue when the strike has been called off, if you know anyone around any of the aforementioned areas, I could send a CD your way. |
Career / Re: Should I Quit My Programming Job? (Can't Cope) by Ralvy(m): 4:56pm On Jul 07, 2009 |
Just curious, what kind of programming are you into? Maybe you should consider learning to code instead of giving up on the job? Programming isn't too hard to understand, but oh! well, that depends on the kind or programming in question. Get books off the internet, when you get home from work, try to code a few scripts, ask colleagues for help when you run into problems and slowly, you'll get there |
