Maybe @dillon67 is talking about boot up time, from personal experience, the N900 is very slow when you turn it on for the first few minutes. |
Are you guys still wondering what the cut off mark is? It's Affirmative. 180 has been set as the cut off mark for admission into all tertiary institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of education). It was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on the 10th of June, 2010 and would affect everyone who sat for the UTME exam on the 17th, April 2010. Universities that fail to comply risk revocation of their licenses. |
I'm in Nigeria, and I use my BB as a modem, but I'm yet to find a solution for MS Windows users. I mentioned berry4all here: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=459690 |
1,000 for 1MB, I think you should get those facts right. As regards internet rates, my Blackberry serves as a modem and I can consume 5GB within a month and still pay just 5K, so which is more economical? This is why I say, "use whatever works for you", for a demanding computer user like me, BIS is just what I need! |
You know my long lasting advice to anyone is to use what works for them. I've used the E71 before and played with E72, but the Blackberry still leads in all aspects IMO. What is one thing you can do on the Nokia that you can't do on the BB? |
Lol! "Best of two worlds". I use a Blackberry 9700 too and recently ordered a Nokia N900. |
Lol! I stopped watching the match after they scored the second goal (80+ mins), didn't know a 'third' goal was added |
Anyone heard about the N9, a successor of the N900? I think I'd wait for this one ![]() nokia-n900.com/nokia-n9-successor-of-nokia-n900/ |
texazzpete:Sorry, I guess. I just didn’t see it necessary to continue to stress the installation of Windows when you had already made the point. Moreover, assuming he isn’t I.T inclined enough to google “install windows 7 in bootcamp” and follow on screen instructions, is yet another unnerving statement. I’m well aware of all the options available to him; I just don’t endorse one of them (parallels/vmware). Bootcamp might be a vialble alternative, I use that. I just hate parallels because you are forced to run Windows in an emulation program which disapprovingly limits the clout of the guest OS. texazzpete:Now don’t get me wrong, but how do we even know he’s on a supported (or 2008) MBP? I’m not trying to go off beam here, but I was a ‘Support Specialist’ for a professional grade software package and used to get tons of support inquiries; we (the Support Team) came across lots of perplexing inquiries and periodically, we complicated things far beyond necessary ‘cos something as basic as a “version #” wasn’t provided. My Point: In almost all cases, at least specification of the machine should be taken into account prior to providing any solutions. -[n3rve] |
@texazzpete; I think 'ts rili his decision to make, he might not be needing windows for anything besides the sync which is something I believe can be resolved with some patience. , and running windows as a guest OS might be viable but we don't even know his specs, |
My bad, thought you were referring to a BB. I think you should get windows running on that mac first, it's intel right? Are you in Abuja? As regards apps; have u tried to scour the OVI store for some great maemo apps? I can't recommend apps for you 'cos our requirements probably differ, and loading up your phone with apps you don't use isn't a very smart thing to do. However, you should still find plenty recommendations online, I just googled and somany came up. |
BlackRa1n, I have a copy on my PC. |
Well, I've used an N97 before switching to the BB Bold 2 and I don't regret. |
This is all from my head, so excuse me if I miss something. You should be able to open the Mobile browser, view options and select "change connection", (it could be change, new, switch, whatever). From there you should be able to select WiFi or WLan, and connect to the network. Another way could be to setup a wireless profile first, you should be able to do this from the Settings menu, around "Connections". Just try to browse through the phone, it's probably very easy. |
@Twitssa; I have a Macbook Air, but I hardly use it for any RIM related operations. But is there anything you've tried to do on OS X that you haven't been able to? Or why don't you install Bootcamp (should come with your PC depending on the OS version) and dual boot with windows 7? |
The N900 is an awesome piece. However, you'd find a way of doing majority of the things mentioned on the BlackBerry. Perhaps, I should do a part 2 of this review: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=459690 |
Will I be the first to say Tortoise is slightly faster on Ubuntu? |
Lol! , and u think anyone will pay that much after such a revies, Mind posting pics? |
Lol! Isn't everyone? |
Lol! On the contrary, I think she should be moderated! |
Lol! Why don't u have FBTs on Glo's network? MTN can simply overhaul their network setup and even me wouldn't be able to surf for free. |
FBTs on their network will cease to exist ![]() |

Until u define "left o mep", I can't help. |
It really depends on how quick you get money. I could be in your shoes and buy the ticket without a second thought (if I really love her) knowing that I'd replenish my safe soon. |
Lol! I'm in a similar mix. |
Oh! Really? Last I heard, the telecom operators were requesting an 18 month extension. "Nigeria’s telecoms regulator, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has once again postponed the deadline for SIM card registration from 1 March 2010 to 1 May 2010, thus giving mobile operators two more months to prepare for a government-imposed program to register new SIM cards issued to mobile-phone users. NCC said the postponement became necessary following the discovery that large quantities of SIM cards with instant activation features, which were already distributed by the service providers before the earlier announcement, would not have been cleared out before 1 March 2010. Registration will now begin on May 1, instead of March 1, the NCC an Abuja-based industry regulator said in an e-mailed statement yesterday. The law requires mobile-phone subscribers to provide details such as fingerprints and photographs of themselves. Reuben Muoka, head of public relations for the NCC, said the Commission had directed all telecom operators to put necessary arrangements in place to ensure that all new SIM cards were registered before activation with effect from 1 May 2010, adding that the extension would also give the service providers additional time to finalize the installation of the necessary infrastructure for the registration. MTN Nigeria and Zain Nigeria have rejected the government’s directive, demanding 18 months extension . . ." More at: itnewsafrica.com/?p=5391 |
I heard somewhere that it might become compulsory to register sim cards before you can use them, don't know how true it is though. -[n3rve] |
