PoliticsStart Oil Exploration In Benue - Buhari Orders NNPC by rapistomenka(op): 4:32pm On Aug 16, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to commence the search for crude oil and other hydrocarbon exploratory activities in the Benue Trough. Buhari According to a statement by the NNPC, Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr. Maikaniti Baru, disclosed this while receiving a delegation from the Benue State Government, who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. This is coming few days after the same directive was given to the NNPC to intensify crude oil exploration in the Chad basin. The Benue Trough is a major geological formation underlying a large part of Nigeria, extending about 1,000 kilometer north-east from the Bight of Benin to Lake Chad. It is part of the broader Central African Rift System.

Baru stated that the directive to commence exploratory activities in the Benue Trough was part of efforts to guarantee energy security of the country. In addition, the NNPC also stated that it has reinvigorated its collaboration with the Benue State Government on the Ethanol project which is geared towards production of biofuels for energy sufficiency. Baru noted that ethanol when blended with Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, otherwise known as petrol, ensures excellent performance of vehicles, stressing that energy sufficiency and proficiency were part of the cardinal objectives of the NNPC. The NNPC added that it has initiated a renewable energy programme in August 2005 which is in conformity with the Kyoto Protocol agreement to which Nigeria is a signatory.

The primary aim of the programme, according to the NNPC, is to link the agricultural sector with the oil and gas industry, adding that it is also targeted at gradually reducing the nation’s dependence on imported gasoline, reducing environmental pollution as a result of consumption of wholesale fossil fuel as well as creating a commercially viable industry that can boast of sustainable domestic jobs. “A similar programme in Brazil has a thriving biofuels industry providing quantum economic benefits including creation of hundreds of thousands of employment opportunities for nationals of that country,” the NNPC noted.

Also speaking, leader of the Benue State delegation, Mr. Terwase Orbunde, commended the NNPC for resolving the recent fuel supply challenges and pledged the readiness of the state government to support the quick take-off of the Ethanol project, adding that the project would generate jobs for Nigerians. Orbunde assured the NNPC of full support and cooperation from the State Government and the host communities, stressing that the State Government fully identifies with the energy policy of the Federal Government.

The Benue trough, according to Wikipedia, has its southern limit at the northern boundary of the Niger Delta, where it dips down and is overlaid with Tertiary and more recent sediments. It extends in a northeasterly direction to the Chad Basin, and is about 150 kilometer wide. The trough is arbitrarily divided into lower, middle and upper regions, and the upper region is further divided into the Gongola and Yola arms. The Anambra Basin in the west of the lower region is more recent than the rest of the trough, being formed during a later period of compression, but is considered part of the formation.

Crime4 Brothers Bag 72 Months For Forging Court Registrar’s Signature by rapistomenka(op): 4:29pm On Aug 12, 2016
Four brothers are to spend the next 72 months behind bars in Lagos for forging the official stamp and signature of a Lagos High Court registrar. The men are Abayomi Oluwa, 64; Ismaila Oluwa, 69; Tajudeen Oluwa, 60; and Musa Oluwa, 58. An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court which handed down the verdict, sentenced each of them to 18 months for forgery and eight months for conspiracy. The Magistrate, Mr A.A. Adesanya, however, did not give the convicts option of fine.

He said:“From the evidences and facts provided before the court, the accused were not truthful in their evidences and testimonies; they are, therefore, found guilty of the offences. “You are hereby sentenced to 18 months in prison for forgery and eight months jail term for conspiracy each without an option of fine; the sentences should run concurrently.’’

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the men were first arraigned on June 30, 2014 on charges bordering on conspiracy and forgery. The Oluwas all pleaded not guilty and were granted bail each in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each. The prosecutor, Insp.George Nwosu had told the court that the accused committed the offences at the Lagos High Court. He said the accused conspired to forge the official stamp of the high court and the signature of the court’s principal registrar. Nwosu said the accused had filed a suit at the Lagos High Court against the complainant, Oba Mukaila of Lagos and Apapa, asking him to step down from the throne.

“The accused had taken the complainant to court to vacate the throne, claiming that the throne does not belong to him. “The court had, in its ruling, ordered the accused to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the case. “But the accused went ahead to forge the stamp of the court and also lifted the signature of the principal registrar from the ruling and smuggled it into a public notice.

“They made the publication in punch newspaper that the court had ruled that the Oba (complainant) should cease to be the Oluwa of Lagos and Apapa. “They also pasted some of the notices at the palace,’’ Nwosu said. The offences contravened Sections 363 (2), (b) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

PoliticsBreaking News: New Militant Group Fulfils Threat, Blows Up Pipeline In Delta by rapistomenka(op): 12:47pm On Aug 11, 2016
WARRI- BARELY 24 hours after it threatened to bomb oil installations in the Niger Delta region if the Federal Government did not stop its one-sided talks with the Ijaw ethnic nationality, the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, NDJM, Wednesday, blew up a major trunk delivery line in Delta state. The trunk line conveying crude from Isoko to the Eriemu manifold Urhobo nationality belong to NPDC and Shoreline Resources.

NDJM in a statement, last night, by the spokesperson, self-styled General Aldo Agbalaja, said the Central Operational Command of the group has approved the commencement of demolition and evacuation of uplands tagged ‘Operation Zero’ to correct the wrongs that have afflicted our people for years. The group had, Tuesday, warned the federal government to stop parleying with the Ijaw ethnic nationality alone, as it was not the only tribe in the region that its militants could blow pipelines.

It said it was out to “seek justice for the perpetually cheated and protect the identities of our people, who are co-owners of the wealth, which Nigeria has forever misappropriated.” Vanguard could not confirm the authenticity of the claim, last night, from industry sources. However, the group said: “As a mark of our seriousness and to prove we are people of our words, at about 02.00hours of today; Wednesday, August 10, 2016, operatives of the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate brought down a major trunk delivery line from Isoko to the Eriemu Manifold in Urhobo, belonging to the NPDC/Shoreline Resources”

“We would also want to use this medium to give a very strong warning to the operatives of the asset NPDC/Shorelines not to commence repairs pending when they get signals from us, otherwise the inevitable may occur to their personnel, as we have earlier warned them to begin evacuating the uplands,” it said. Its words: “This is just a glimpse of what is to come, there are several assets already penned down for destruction. This line of action has been made inevitable by an unjust system, which only responds to the violent to the detriment of the peaceful and law abiding.”

PoliticsRain Responsible For Our Inability To Defeat Bokoharam- COAS by rapistomenka(op): 6:39pm On Aug 09, 2016
The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, says there are still remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in parts of the North East due to the vast nature of the region.
The chief of army staff stated this in a lecture to participants of Executive Course 38 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), in Kuru, Plateau on Tuesday.

“They still exist in the region, especially Borno, as the area is diverse and some cannot be easily accessed.
“The land is so vast, the North East is very, very vast; you never appreciate it until you fly over that area or even drive around.
“Those remote areas are so diverse and thick with very difficult terrain.
“Now that it is the rainy season, it is very difficult to move heavy equipment, heavy tracking vehicles into some of those areas. The best time is the dry season,’’ he said.

Mr. Buratai said President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to relocate the military control and command centre from Abuja to Maiduguri was highly profound and strategic in the counter insurgency operation.
“The movement of the military command and control centre to Maiduguri is one of the major responses of President Muhammadu Buhari toward the national security threat,’’ he said.
