Abuja – The Nigerian Navy (NN) said it had arrested a suspected member of the Niger Delta Avengers. This is contained in a statement signed by its Director of Information, Commodore Christian Ezekobe, and made available to newsmen in Abuja. According to Ezekobe, the suspect who was picked up on July 11 at about 11 a.m., is believed to be a major logistics supplier to the group which had claimed responsibility for attacks on NNPC and Chevron pipelines in the region. “The arrest was made following a confessional statement obtained from an earlier arrested suspect who gave details of the involvement of other collaborators in the attacks. “Preliminary investigations also revealed that the suspect recently supplied 10 batteries, five large coils of wire and other materials purportedly used for the attacks,’’ the director said. The NN said it would continue to partner with sister security agencies and members of the public to eliminate all forms of economic sabotage such as vandalisation of pipelines and piracy. What will be the fate of Millions of Nigerians who don't have N500 to buy a meal to break their fast. ![]() Let Buhari and his Muslim APC pick their respective corners in hell to break their useless fast Imagine a bunch of elitist bickering about how or with whom to break their fast in a nation where the majority is on the verge of starvation. So if Buhari refuses to break the fast with Saraki and others, then these others would die? ![]() |
President Muhammadu Buhari has finally ruled out the possibility of breaking the Ramadan fast with the embattled President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki; his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu; and other leaders of the National Assembly. Since his return from his leave on June 19, Buhari had hosted different groups to Iftar, during which they broke their fast with him. Those who the President had hosted so far included security chiefs, members of the Federal Executive Council, serving and retired judges, traditional rulers, Christian and Muslim clerics, leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, members of the business community and members of the diplomatic corps among others. Penultimate Wednesday, it was learnt that Buhari was scheduled to host the leaders of the two chambers of the National Assembly to Iftar. A few hours before the scheduled take-off time, however, the event was put off. With the Ramadan fast ending on Monday (today) or Tuesday, our correspondent on Friday asked Shehu if a new date had been fixed for the botched dinner. The presidential spokesman admitted that Buhari would no longer be able to meet the National Assembly leaders before the end of Ramadan. He, however, said the development was not the making of anybody. Shehu said, “You will recall that the President spent most of the days in the Ramadan month outside the country. “By the time he returned, a schedule had already been made for him on those he would be receiving daily. “On the day fixed for the National Assembly leaders, most of them had prior engagements and so the event could not hold. It is difficult to begin to adjust the schedule when others fixed for other days have been duly informed. It is not by anybody’s making.” http://saharareporters.com/2016/07/03/president-buhari-rules-out-breaking-fast-senate-president-saraki-and-others |

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has said the recent deregulation of the downstream sector that led to a rise in fuel price was a painful decision taken by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to save the nation’s economy from total collapse. Lawal, however, said it was a tough task convincing President Buhari to agree to the price increase. Lawal spoke on Saturday in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, with newsmen. The present regime recently gave room for marketers to sell fuel at a margin profitable to them but not higher than N145. Over time, there has been a drop in the price of the commodity, with some filling stations selling at N133. Most of the stations, especially government-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, now sell at N140. But Lawal told newsmen on Saturday it was not easy getting President Buhari to agree to the increase in the price of the commodity. He said: “It was a very difficult task convincing the President on this. “The President is always on the side of the masses. “The President is not easily convinced when additional hardship is placed on the people.” https://www.today.ng/news/national/146666/tough-convincing-buhari-increase-petrol-price-sgf |
