PoliticsWhat's The Reason For The QR Code On The New N100 Note? by Rawani(op):
We have been inundated with so much talk about the new N100 note released to mark the Centenary celebrations. I have seen it being referred to as "cutting edge" and "digital" among other superlative labels attached to what seems to be another channel for looting our commonwealth. All these digital attributes the new note is purported to have, however is based on the singular inclusion of a QR Code at the back of the note, which if scanned with a QR/Barcode reader (available for free for most smartphones in their respective app stores), unfortunately only opens a webpage with a picture of the current President Goodluck Jonathan, and a brief overview of our country Nigeria.

In my opinion, the QR code should have been more innovative than simply giving you a link to a brief overview of the purpose of the centenary celebrations. I mean wouldn't it have been more beneficial if it linked you to a page showing the current exchange rate for the Naira amidst other monetary data? Only God knows the millions of dollars that were claimed for adding an ordinary QR code to the new Naira note, a feature which is absolutely free to add to anything be it a poster, flyer or an simple piece of paper. The fact that the feature is marketed with so much hullabaloo and used as a basis for attaching superlative labels, such as "the Naira note with iPhone features" to it points at the insincerity of the current administration.

What are your thoughts about the QR code on the newly introduced N100 note? Is it necessary? Could it have been more functional? Could it have been used as a channel to loot our resources? Why is the photo of Goodluck Jonathan permanently etched on our national currency (when you scan the code) since he could be voted out in a matter of weeks? Why wasn’t it revealed how much it would cost the taxpayer to produce these 'digital' notes?

Impressive, I smell a new season for Nigeria, it's now obvious we are collective victims of terror and poor governance and we need to rise above our ethno-religious differences if we are to succeed in redeeming our nation and rescuing it from the misdirected opportunist called Jonathan and his gang of thieves.

PoliticsRe: Hypocrisy!!! Pdp Chairman Adamu Mu'azu Signed Sharia into law in Bauchi by Rawani: 10:01am On Dec 26, 2014
Classic. The PDP has always been a divisive entity which comes up with ridiculous policies, all geared towards perpetually keeping its sticky fingers in the national purse and controlling the masses by pitting them against each other through the spread of baseless propaganda. The fact is that if the irredeemably corrupt Jonathan/PDP discover that signing the sharia bill into law will give him further and unrestricted latitude to loot our treasury, he will be the one to islamise this country, not GMB.

PoliticsRe: Construction Of 2nd Niger Bridge–another 419 On The Igbo Nation By Obinna Akukwe by Rawani(op): 1:10pm On Dec 21, 2014
The SE is unknowingly burning its candle from both ends by insisting on Jonathan. If he can treat the Igbo with such nake.d impunity before the elections, one shudders to imagine what he will do when he doesn't need Igbo support for another term, if in the unlikely event he wins. The wise ones have spoken...hearken to the call of wisdom and change your bleak future under Jonathan, to one pregnant with the potential to produce an Igbo president after the much needed reforms of General Buhari.

Fraudulent Construction Of 2nd Niger Bridge–Another 419 On The Igbo Nation

By Obinna Akukwe

The construction of 2nd Niger Bridge through a Public Private Partnership involving Julius Berger -NSIA Consortium and tolling the Igbo people for 25 years thereafter is another 419 on the Biafran Igbo citizens of South East Nigeria. According to the terms of this fraudulent business, the project is a Design, Finance, Build, Operate and Transfer (DFBOT) model to cost N117 Billion naira with the Federal Government contributing a paltry N30 billion naira while the consortium will raise the rest of the funds and thereafter hold the Igbo people to ransom by collecting a 25 year toll tax for raising the rest of the funds offshore.

President Jonathan speaking at the ground breaking ceremony at Onitsha in March 2014 said that “as part of our administration’s Transformation Agenda in the road sector, we have set out to construct two very important new bridges, across our Nation’s two great rivers – the River Niger and River Benue. These are the Loko-Oweto Bridge linking Nasarawa and Benue States, which is progressing satisfactorily, and this 2nd Niger Bridge, connecting Anambra and Delta States.” It is worthy to note that the other bridges are being constructed by Jonathan regime without any PPP and without any toll tax on the people of Benue and Nasarrawa States.

This means that all President Ebele Jonathan can do for the Igbos since they gave him unprecedented support since 2010 is to contribute only N30 billion naira while some Shylock consortium raises the rest of the money and milks the Igbo nation for 25 years.

Experts have told me that the bridge is not supposed to cost anything above N50 billion, going by Nigerian standard of cost inflation, including the 11 km access roads. However, this contract cost was doubled overnight to N117 billion naira to justify the financial heist on Ndigbo. The fraudulent construction will cost N117 billion for a 1.5 km bridge while the 1.3 km Lekki-Ikoyi suspension Bridge cost only N29 billion naira. Thus the thieves jerked the cost of constructing the 2nd Niger bridge to 4 times the actual cost just to justify the rape on the over grateful Igbo nation.

Informed sources within Ohanaeze and among Igbo leaders and All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) have continued to echo that this 2nd Niger Bridge business venture is actually between Julius Berger, Ebele Jonathan and Peter Obi and that Mr Peter Obi’s 2nd Niger Bridge business venture will yield at least N12 billion naira annually. Reliable sources have revealed that whenever the bridge is finished, all heavy duty vehicles will pay N1000 toll fee while cars and mini buses will pay N500 naira. Tricycles will pay N200 while cyclists will pay N100 naira each time they pass through the bridge.

This criminal toll gate will yield the corrupt business consortium and their secret sponsors about N1 billion monthly. This means that in 4 years, the thieves would have recovered N50 billion which is the actual over-exaggerated cost of constructing (going by the Federal Ministry of Works Corrupt Standard). Going by the Governor Fashola Run Lagos State standard, the bridge will not cost anything above N30 billion naira and thieves will take about two years plus to recover their investments and the rest 22 years will be excess profit.

The financial interpretation of this criminality is that for 25 years with static revenue of N12 billion annually (ignoring the tendencies to increase the toll fee after 2 years) , the thieves will make N300 billion naira turnover with 250 billion naira as profit. This means that their investment is recouped within 4 years and the rest 21 years is profit. If the cost of such offshore long term cost is factored, usually 2.5 -5% per annum, and its future value for 25 years is factored, it cannot get any anywhere near N60 billion naira and yet the financial bandits are bandying N117 billion naira as cost of constructing the bridge.

The implication is that some politicians within the presidency and Anambra State Govt House have done 419 on the Igbo nation and we are all smiling like charmed drunks. If the entire Igbo nation is charmed, I am not. God will definitely disgrace the thieves that want to put the Igbo race into a slavish bondage of paying through the nose for a Niger Bridge when all the rest of Nigeria, from Benue to Kogi , Calabar to Lagos,Maidugeri to Sokoto and all over Nigeria has bridges, dams, silos, roads etc built with Federal Government money while the defeated Biafran Igbos of South East will have theirs built and tolled for 25 years.

For all the support Ndigbo gave Ebele Azikkiwe Jonathan since 2010, a PPP modeled 2nd Niger Bridge is far worse that what Awolowo did when Ojukwu released him from Calabar prison and he promised to declare Oduduwa Republic, but chickened out at the deceptive offer of Gowon. This time around, this disappointment is not from a Soyinka nor Obasajo nor Tinubu, rather it is under the supervision of “our cousin” Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, and our former Chairman, Board of Trustees of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) ‘Igbo Party” Peter Obi and world acclaimed Igbo Economist Okonjo Iwuala whose economic wisdom failed to notice the injustice and criminality in this transaction.

Condemning the fraud called 2nd Niger Bridge, former governor of Anambra State and serving senator, Dr Chris Ngige said that “The first is that the bridge is being built on a Public Private Partnership(PPP) deal, with overseas financiers. For that reason, the cost of the bridge suffered double inflation, both from the Nigeria end and the financiers who alleged cost of fund.

“The bridge, which should have cost N70 billion is now to cost N114 billion, that was why I told the South-East Senate Caucus that I was not going to be a part of it”. Ngige even got it wrong-the bridge should have cost between N30-N50 billion naira, and factoring cost of funds it should be t around N40-N60 Billion if PPP should be used.

Ohanaeze and all Igbo leaders should condemn this enslavement of Ndigbo through this over-bloated and fraudulent construction of a bridge and must demand immediately the cancellation of this PPP Design, Finance, Build, Operate and Transfer model .

Jonathan led Government should takeover the responsibility for the full construction of that bridge, and settle off the fraudulent consortium. This fraudulent 419 2nd Niger Bridge should be revised for a full scale Federal Government Built arrangement before another scandal erupts.

PoliticsRe: Photos: Some Nigerians In London Show Support For Buhari At The Nigeria House by Rawani: 7:53am On Dec 21, 2014
When you are surrounded by signs of development and continuous improvement, provided by a government that cares about the life and welfare of every citizen, and constantly engaging in efforts to minimise and punish corruption, you can only be sober when you read daily reports of wide-spread and audacious corruption and loss of life as a result of insecurity brought about by the incompetence and total nonchalance of the Goodluck administration. Such is the lot of Nigerians in the diaspora.

It is only natural to desire change when faced with failure, Nigerians need a government they can be proud of, a government that is responsible to it's citizens, one which makes their welfare and security a prime consideration in the development of policies, one which does not pay touts to usurp the responsibilities of it's naval force, and most importantly, one that treats stealing as corruption.

I believe there is a sizeable number of votes from the SS that can be gotten with Amaechi's influence, therefore giving the zone the Senate Presidency might serve to increase that number significantly...especially from Jona's kinsmen that are sick of his ineptitude and lack of capacity to lead, but don't want to lose out of the power equation in the country.

PoliticsRe: What Did Buhari Do For The South East As Head Of State And PTF Chairman? by Rawani: 10:03am On Dec 14, 2014
A glaring pointer to Jonathan's insincerity with the development of the SE can be seen in the way he extracts maximum political capital for the most mundane of projects in the region. For example when he visited Enugu to inaugurate the remodelled Akanu-Ibiam International Cargo Airport, you could mistake the whole event for a scene from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet with the barrage of accolades being thrown about. Yet, the remodelling that took place in the southeast had been completed at the Lagos and Kano airports, without the President extracting from those political zones, the type of political capital that the southeast leaders were effusively stuffing into his pockets.

You forgot to add the recently commissioned second Niger bridge, the dualized Enugu-Abakaliki federal highway which he delivered as promised, as well as the long completed dredging of the River Niger.

PoliticsRe: Dele Momodu Writes Passionate Letter To Buhari, Jonathan by Rawani(op): 2:54pm On Dec 13, 2014
Gbawe:
My brother, I am personally on the case already in my own little ways. I have already sent emails to APC legislators I know and an APC current pro-Buhari Governor about my thoughts on strategies required. I too fervently support a departure from the PDP way of doing things whereby the Presidential candidate of the Party deceptively keeps his thoughts to himself , regarding very vital public positions, only to then disappointingly and detrimentally appoint AGIPs and ruinous hands to transformational office once voted into power as GEJ did in 2011.

The APC should boldly name who they have in mind for the most important jobs in the land so that a sincere bond and resolute creed of performance/transparency is formed with Nigerians which will convince the ordinary folks of our nation that Buhari intends to carry them along and seek their input/approval at every stage. While Yar Adua chose the ultra-corrupt crook Aondoakaa as AGF and justice Minister, with GEJ even going for the worse Adoke-Bello, Buhari will win support, even internationally, by announcing boldly that Femi Falana is the Justice Minister in-waiting for his 2015 Government.

No Nigerian will object if Buhari states that Pat Utomi is a possible incoming finance Minister. Same way many Nigerians can be happy and optimistic to know that Col.Umar may be Defence Minister. This way,Nigerians will know that a vote for Buhari is also a vote for Utomi, Falana, Col.Umar and the other good/highly talented and perpetually dedicated Nigerians we know can turn Nigeria around in a synergy of political will and pro-people devotion. Even those apathetic to Buhari will not remain so when they see the General including the favourite technocratic and political sons/daughters of Nigeria in a project that places the happiness and progress of ordinary Nigerians above everything else.

This is the time for the APC to jettison fear and bravely open up to Nigerians and transparently include them in the process of getting round pegs in round holes. The PDP has never been willing to do this in 15 years and the APC must show it is ready to go there. I remember the CPC (Buhari's Party in 2011) tired to deploy this brave strategy by showing Nigerians their readiness to announce a shadow cabinet. The APC has already started putting the PDP in the shade with its superior ways of doing things . The Presidential and Lagos gubernatorial Primaries of the APC were especially impressive, well-organised and commendably transparent. Whereas the PDP, previously touting itself as democratic above all others, could only deliver a disgraceful Presidential coronation of GEJ that saw many potential contestant brazenly frozen and bullied out with even EFCC harassment of Lamido et al. Their Lagos show was even worse with Obanikoro now in court over what appears to be the sort of brazen X is greater than Y rigging the PDP is showing no sign of rejecting.

I cannot reveal everything I wrote to influential APC leaders here but the crux of my message for them is that the Party, regarding all processes and political policies/initiatives, must show it is ready to be a transparent and desirable alternative to the PDP with the overall onus of showing ordinary Nigerians that their opinion and input is respected highly and that everything is being done on their behalf. The APC must begin showing it is accountable to Nigerians , as a servant of the people, from this point on.
That would be a masterstroke by our party if we adopt this brilliant strategy, a well timed precision strike on the Achilles heel of the ruling party.
