Nairaland / General / Drama As Abuja Senior Pastor, Deacons ‘scale Fence’, Escape From Task Force by Realcash224(m): 8:09am On May 04, 2020
The Federal Capital Territory, FCT COVID-19 lockdown and social distancing enforcement team has revealed how the presiding Pastor of Shekinah Glory Church, Jabi, Abuja, alongside his deacons, scaled the fence of the Church to evade arrest.

Chairman of the team, Ikharo Attah, told reporters on Sunday that he had immediately mobilised his team to the area following an intelligence report that the church was in full session despite the social distancing rules.

He noted that this was a clear contravention of the ban on religious gatherings in Abuja..He said “the pastor and deacons on sighting the team, jumped the fence and disappeared.”

However, Attah revealed that “luck ran out of some of the church members, especially the women, who could not scale the fence as they were arrested and arraigned before the court.”

He said that the fleeing Pastor and Ministers must be made to face the law for disobeying government’s orders and endangering the lives of his members.

The Abuja task force boss said the team has commenced manhunt for the cleric and others who escaped with him through the fence.

Nairaland / General / Covid-19: Samples Taken From A Goat And Pawpaw Tested Positive by Realcash224(m): 6:32pm On May 03, 2020
Tanzanian president, John Magufuli on Sunday ordered a probe on the country’s coronavirus testing kits after samples taken from a goat and pawpaw tested positive.

Speaking at an event in Chato in the northwest of Tanzania, Magufuli said the COVID-19 testing kits which had been imported from abroad had “technical errors”.

The president said he had instructed Tanzanian security forces to check the quality of the kits, who then randomly obtained several non-human samples, including from a pawpaw, a goat, and a sheep, but had assigned them human names and ages.

According to him, these samples were then submitted to Tanzania’s laboratory to test for the coronavirus, with the lab technicians left deliberately unaware of their origins.

President Magufuli later disclosed that samples from the pawpaw and the goat tested positive for COVID-19, adding it was likely that some people were being tested positive when in fact they were not infected by the Coronavirus.

“We extracted a sample from a goat which turned positive. This tells you that something is not adding up,” he stated.

“Are we now supposed to quarantine goats and fruits?” President Magufuli questioned.

Religion / President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2020 Easter Message To Nigerians by Realcash224(m): 12:35pm On Apr 10, 2020
PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI’S 2020 EASTER MESSAGE TO NIGERIANS

I rejoice with our Christian brothers and sisters as well as all Nigerians on the occasion of the celebration of this year’s Easter.
This year’s commemoration of Easter comes amid the grip with which Covid-19 has held the entire world.

Unprecedented in living memory, majority of Christians have found themselves marking Easter in a subdued manner, away from the usual congregation in churches. This is unusual and very unfortunate.

However, I wish to enjoin our Christian compatriots to rekindle their faith in Christ who overcame persecution, sufferings and displayed endurance, steadfastness and above all piety.

Jesus Christ represented man’s ability to withstand temporary pains in the hope of everlasting glory.

I urge you to imbibe and live the values of humility, discipline, perseverance, sacrifice and obedience which Jesus Christ demonstrated during His stay on earth.

There is no better opportunity than now for all Christians in particular, and Nigerians in general, to remain faithful and hopeful that with intensified prayers backed by personal and collective responsibility, the nation shall pull through this most difficult trial.

I have no doubt that if all stakeholders – individuals and groups – play their part to the fullest as advised by our scientists and medical experts in confronting Covid-19, the inherent resilience and determination of our people will enable us to pull through.

As I stated in my national broadcast on Sunday, March 29, 2020, since there is currently no known vaccine against the virus, “the best and most efficient way to avoid getting infected is through regular hygiene and sanitary practices as well as social distancing.”

May I use this opportunity to commend the encouraging containment and ameliorating strategies put in place by members of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19.

I am very much aware of the personal and collective inconveniences suffered by our people due to measures such as restriction of movements and closure of business premises. Being “a matter of life and death,” these sacrifices are in everybody’s interest to save our country from calamity.

The welfare of our people is paramount. Accordingly, the most economically vulnerable in our communities will continue to be uppermost in our plans, and efforts will be made to supply them with basic means of survival.

While we see the Covid-19 pandemic as a global challenge, this administration is not oblivious of the constant threat posed to our national security by terrorists and insurgents. They may take this opportunity to perpetrate attacks. But our armed forces and other security and intelligence services will remain vigilant and continue to contain these threats and consolidate efforts to eradicate them completely.

As we mark this year’s Easter, whatever the circumstances, I encourage you to make the most of the situation, and to keep safe.

I wish you all a Happy Easter.

Muhammadu Buhari

Mike Adenuga, billionaire businessman and one of Africa’s richest entrepreneurs, has announced a donation of N1.5 billion towards the initiatives to combat the outbreak of the coronavirus in Nigeria.

The amount, which is the highest individual donation so far in the country, is broken into two: N1 billion to the federal government and N500 million to the Lagos state government.

Announcing the N500 million donation in a letter to Jide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, which he made through the Mike Adenuga Foundation, the Globacom chairman wrote: “We shall in addition to this contribution actively continue our ongoing efforts to assist various bodies and institutions in the country with the supply of such essential items as Sanitizers, Masks, Test kits, Ventillators, PPEs and other necessary requirements.”

Members of the Nigerian Private Sector Coalition Against Covid-19, made of people like Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola, Abdulsamad Rabiu, Tony Elumelu, Herbert Wigwe, Segun Agbaje and Jim Ovia are each contributing N1 billion to the fight.

They are working with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bankers’ Committee.

In his letter to Godwin Emefiele, governor of the CBN, Adenuga wrote: “Given its broad scope and focused thrust, we are convinced that effective execution of the well-articulated objectives of the coalition is certain to yield the type of very positive results that will stand the country in good stead in the ongoing battle to checkmate the malignant COVID-19 virus.

“We are towards this end pleased to attach a bank cheque in the sum of One Billion Naira (N1, 000, 000, 000) as our modest initial contribution to the success of this welcome initiative.”
