Politics / Fayemi Officially Declares For Presidency by Realcash224(m): 4:19pm On May 04, 2022
Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has formally declared his intention to contest for president in 2023 on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He made the declaration on Wednesday in Abuja.

Fayemi promised to ensure youth empowerment when he becomes the president.

He also pledged to “retool the Armed Forces and security agencies”.

He also promised decentralisation for the government to be brought closer to the people.

The Ekiti State Governor assured other aspirants that “I will adhere to the highest standards of decorum and decency.”

He promised to address Nigeria’s security challenge by leading the military on the frontline against bandits and terrorists.

The governor said that he decided to join the race after consultations with political associates, traditional rulers and APC critical stakeholders.

He said, “As a people, make the choices that will ensure that our nation is able to prosper in peace, unity, safety and security in the comity of nations.

“At trying times such as we were traversing as a nation which is also being witnessed on a global scale could, if properly managed, be converted into transformative moments.

“This will allow both for the achievement of a fundamental national reset and a major leap forward in our affairs, as a people, I believe that if guided by the right leadership coalition, Nigerians are determined not to allow tough times to deter them or to lose sight of the gains of a better country.

Education / Governor Sanwo-olu’s Bold Playbook On Phasing Out Polytechnics, Colleges Of Educ by Realcash224(m): 8:50am On Feb 09, 2022
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has informed necessary government agencies that two new universities have been created in Lagos state. The schools are Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUST) Ikorodu, and Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) Ijanikin.

LASUST came from Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) while LASUED was a concatenation of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) Ijanikin, and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED) Epe.

Did you notice something? Lagos State has weaned itself off colleges of education and polytechnics, thereby fixing the national paralysis where polytechnic graduates are treated unfairly. This is a very bold call by Governor Sanwo-Olu and one I support 100%.

If Nigeria cannot fix this HND-BSc dichotomy, the best option is to phase out polytechnics and colleges of education. Lagos State has drawn the first blood, I expect other states to follow. Just like that, we will be out of HND-awarding polytechnics even though the OND levels remain fair.

Simply, there is no need preparing young people only to frustrate their careers because of papers their nation gave them. If HND cannot equal BSc, close all polytechnics or better, convert them to universities! The Americans have translated Nigeria HND qualifications as full degree equivalents even when the nation which awards them does not offer the same blessing.

So, with the Lagos state government phasing out the whole distraction, it is either the National Assembly fixes it or everyone follows the same path. Yes, more universities, no matter the quality. But it is all good as everyone comes with the same paper and can compete from the same starting point.

Religion / Oyedepo Warns His Church Members Against Taking COVID-19 Vaccine by Realcash224(m): 1:37pm On May 10, 2021
David Oyedepo, presiding bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has warned members of his church against taking the COVID-19 vaccine, which he claims is “deadly” and untested.
The cleric also said he can be consulted for a solution to the coronavirus pandemic.

While delivering a sermon during the church’s 40th anniversary service on Sunday, the bishop said he would offer his service at no cost.

“They should come to me to find out how to deal with COVID-19 at no cost,” he said.

Oyedepo, who has never hidden his aversion for the COVID-19 vaccine, said every church “is anti-COVID-19 zone”.

He said: “Let me warn you against this deadly thing circulated around the country because it has not been duly tested. An elder of this church, who works with the World Health Organisation, confirmed this, thanking me for always speaking the truth about the authenticity of the COVID-19 vaccine.”

He said it is an “insult” for health workers to visit churches to vaccinate people.

“Did I tell anyone I am sick? Don’t let anyone harass you into doing what you don’t want to do,” he said.

“What an insult! What an assault! Nobody has the right to enforce vaccination on you, and anybody cannot terminate your employment because you refuse to take the vaccine, my God will show up (for you).

“They wanted Africa dead. I heard them say it. When we didn’t die as they proposed, they brought out this vaccination scheme.

“You need to hear their proclamation that Africa will lack spaces to bury corpses. But, today, the reverse is the case. Africa has the least casualty among all the other continents of the world.”
Oyedepo recommended a shot of anointing oil to kill the virus.

Religion / Pastor Adeboye Makes First Appearance After Son’s Death by Realcash224(m): 8:45pm On May 06, 2021
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, on Thursday evening, made his first public appearance after the death of his 42-year-old son, Pastor Dare Adeboye.

The general overseer featured on Thursday at the Holy Communion Service of the May Edition of the church’s Holy Ghost Service.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the younger Adeboye died in his sleep on Wednesday in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, where he was based with his family.

His death shocked the whole world as well-meaning persons including presidents, governors, and notable personalities condole the 79-year-old general overseer and his wife over the death of their son.

Preaching on Thursday night, the older Adeboye stressed on the importance of the bread and wine of the Holy Communion.
The cleric spoke from the studio of the church’s station, DOVE Media, while members of his church congregated in the auditorium along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and in other places across the world watched him.

Adeboye, in his sermon, said, “The bread multiplied in the hands of the disciples, as you receive the bread, it will multiply in your hands.”
Adeboye, who kept mute on the passing of his son, was visibly heartbroken and troubled.

After the sermon, the officiating minister in the auditorium said, “Our Daddy has prayed for us. He was supposed to be here physically but due to circumstances beyond his control, he couldn’t make it.”

Politics / Lagos Speaker Shares 10,000 Tinubu-branded Bags Of Rice To Borno Idps by Realcash224(m): 8:44am On Apr 17, 2021
The Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudasiru Osaba, on Thursday, delivered 10,000 bags of rice donated to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Borno State, by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Borno State House of Assembly for onward distribution to the the victims of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Receiving the bags of rice branded with the picture of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, commended the APC national leader and Hon. Obasa for the donation and delivery.

Flagging off the distribution with officials of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Speaker, Hon. Lawan, said the intervention was first of its kind since Boko Haram crisis, hence he called on other individuals to emulate the gesture.

He said the donation came at the right time, considering the economic hardship faced by traumatised IDPs in the State.

Lawan said Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other humanitarian agencies have been doing a lot in managing the plights of IDPs in the state, but unfortunately, due to the devastating effects of the Boko Haram crisis, there was much concern on meeting the economic demands of the displaced families and those living in host communities, hence, the donation was a welcome development and timely at this critical period.

“We in Borno State, especially members of the Borno State House of Assembly are happy and very appreciative to the Speaker Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Mudasiru Osaba for donating and delivering the 10,000 bags of rice which we are distributing today,” he added https://www.today.ng/news/politics/lagos-speaker-shares-10000-tinubu-branded-bags-rice-borno-idps-359024/amp

Business / Sugar War: Ganduje, Kano Stakeholders End Dangote, Bua’s Rift by Realcash224(m): 1:10pm On Apr 16, 2021
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state has reconciled the two illustrious sons of Kano and Africa’s business moguls, Aliko Dangote and Abdussamad Isyaka Rabi’u.
A statement on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abba Anwar, said Ganduje was able to reconcile the two men with the support of the renowned businessman, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, Kano Emirate and the Kano State Council of Imams.
According to Anwar, the reconciliation meeting took place at Kano Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, on Wednesday, putting a stop to reports that the duo were in dispute over the control of sugar in the country.

The statement reads partly, “Both parties, Chairman of Dangote Group of Companies and Chairman BUA Group of Companies, agreed to work together and supply enough sugar to satisfy the demand of the country.

“They also dismissed allegation that Dangote was planning to see to the increase of sugar price by mounting pressure on BUA to succumb to the increment. They described that allegation as baseless and lacking any iota of truth.
“All the two business moguls agreed to work together as brothers for the growth and development of the nation at large, assuring that, henceforth there would be no differences that could cause disharmony between them.”
Others present at the meeting were the Minister for Commerce, Trade and Investment, Mr Niyi Adebayo, representative of the Kano Emirate, Alhaji Aminu Agundi, Chairman of the Council of Kano Imams, Sheikh Muhammad Nasir Adam, the Chief Imam of Sheikh Ahmadu Tijjani Friday Mosque, Kofar Mata, and the Chairman of NEPZA, Adamu Panda. https://punchng.com/ganduje-kano-stakeholders-end-dangote-buas-rift-cps/?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter&amp&utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter&__twitter_impression=true

Politics / EFCC Releases Ex-Imo Governor, Okorocha by Realcash224(m): 8:48pm On Apr 15, 2021
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released the former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha after he spent two nights in detention.

Okorocha was released on Thursday evening, according to Daily Trust.

The former Governor is presently at his Maitama residence in Abuja.

DAILY POST recalls that the EFCC invited Okorocha on Tuesday for questioning.

Okorocha, who governed Imo between 2011 and 2019, has been accused of embezzlement and misappropriation of state funds by the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma.

In February, the lawmaker accused Uzodinma of unleashing the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) against him.

Okorocha refuted the allegations, saying the state government had not been able to prove corruption allegations against him and his family in court.

Crime / APC Gives Zamfara Governor 2-week Ultimatum To End Insurgency by Realcash224(m): 4:13pm On Apr 13, 2021
A group identified as All Progressives Congress Youth of Nigeria has given the Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle two weeks to end insurgency, killings and other terrorist activities in the state.
The group also asked the governor to explain the rationale behind his administration's insistence on negotiating with bandits.
The national coordinator of the group, Suleiman Shuaibu Shinkafi, who briefed journalists on Tuesday, warned that the governor would be dragged to the ECOWAS court after two weeks if he fails to comply with the directive.
Shinkafi said, “The reason for this ultimatum for the governor is because the issue of insecurity is too much in Zamfara state. The killings and kidnappings are still so much in the state. Our people are suffering. We don't know why the governor insisted on negotiating with bandits in Zamfara state even when the approach is not working.
“Even America, the super power doesn't negotiate with terrorists, so why will the governor continue to negotiate with bandits?
"These are some of the issues we discussed and that of his defection, thus, a resolution was reached. The state has only 14 local government areas and therefore we see no reason why he is insisting on negotiation. Even while they are in the process of negotiating, people are being killed on a daily basis without any pause.
"Therefore if Matawalle does not come out to tell us his reasons for continuing with the negotiation in two weeks, we will drag him to ECOWAS court to seek redress.”

Nairaland / General / FG Nominated Buratai, Others As Ambassadors ‘to Shield Them From ICC Prosecution by Realcash224(m): 3:41pm On Feb 05, 2021
President Muhammadu Buhari’s surprise nomination on Thursday of his immediate past service chiefs as non-career ambassadors may have been to shield them from prosecution by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for atrocities and rights abuses committed by the Nigerian military under their watch.

This is the view of some Nigerian lawyers who spoke with Premium Times on the development.

There have been calls since their retirement last week for the prosecution of especially Mr Buratai who led the Nigerian Army for about five and a half years.

But Thursday evening, a statement by presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, said the president had forwarded the names of the former service chiefs to the Senate for confirmation as non-career ambassadors.

They include former Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonisakin; former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai; former Chief of Air Staff, Ibok Ibas; and former Chief of Naval Staff, Abubakar Sadique.

Buhari presides over Security Council meeting with military chiefs, Police IG others

Their nominations come a week after they resigned from service and their replacements were inaugurated.

Their confirmation as ambassadors will confer on them diplomatic immunity.

Article 29 of the Vienna Convention protects diplomats from arrest and grants them immunity against civil and criminal prosecution.
