It's currently by invitation only. It sounds promising because God knows a lot of people are tired of facebook. |
naijaboiy: Goodnight alreadyYou are projecting concerns about your own bedtime onto me. It is only 7pm in my part of the world. |
naijaboiy: I'm old enough to understand many things,,this is not the question of agewell, age does not equal maturity. |
naijaboiy: I respect your point of view...Don't worry, your point of view will change as you get older or become more mature depending on the kind of people you surround yourself with (i'm assuming you're in your early to mid-teens?). yes we'll leave it at that please. |
naijaboiy: #SIGHMy argument is more about the quality of the posts on this thread and not necessarily about the OP. In essence my argument is that the quality of posts on this thread is extremely low. you don't need to be perfect to be able to think beyond superficiality and narrow-mindedness. The OP probably grew up surrounded by good, intelligent people. Her topic wasn't to show off her gucci bag or brazillian hair or her meeting with tonto dike. it was to show off her mother! wow I am impressed by her. But it seems like most posters here would prefer the superficial threads. they have voted with their comments. hence why i said the thread is filled with imbeciles. |
6packdude: What difference does it make if you, or anyone can't do it: is it any of your damn business what she chooses to do? Who appointed you judge to decide who posts what? This site is filled with dumb kidsabi o. that was my thought too when I saw this thread. I'm thinking what kind of dumb immature people is this topic filled with. |
naijaboiy: LoL,,there is nothing to gain from showing total strangers your family.A lot of people on this thread saw the pics and interpreted it very narrow-mindedly and superficially. As if in their minds they're thinking "why does this girl feel like she has a right to post a non-glamorous pic" If people didn't care, they won't be using up their energy to make multiple posts. In fact, if no one cared, this topic will have very few replies. Clearly, a lot of rude, dumb imbeciles care so much about this girl and her mother judging by the copious amount of rude comments. |
LogoDWhiz: Precious u say?How is this topic not precious? I enjoyed seeing her and her mother's twin-dressing pic more than all the tonto dike pics this section is filled with. |
you and your mom (twin ) look good. nice pics |
logica: LOL. I can definitely sense the disbelief and disappointment in this article. Apparently it doesn't sound too good when Africans are containing epidemics by themselves. What annoyed me the most about the article was that half the time they were crediting the success to Bill Gates, CDC, and whatever americans they could fit into the article, however far-fetched. I guess we can credit bill gates for his part in donating money for a useless polio facility that was turned into an ebola patient quarantine ward by resourceful nigerians . But it's the NYTimes not the LagosTimes afterall. what can one expect? |
14 David danced before the Lord with all his might; David was girded with a linen ephod. 16 As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal daughter of Saul looked out of the window, and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.20 David returned to bless his household. But Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How the king of Israel honored himself today, uncovering himself today before the eyes of his servants’ maids, as any vulgar fellow might shamelessly uncover himself!” 21 David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me in place of your father and all his household, to appoint me as prince over Israel, the people of the Lord, that I have danced before the Lord. 22 I will make myself yet more contemptible than this, and I will be abased in my own eyes; but by the maids of whom you have spoken, by them I shall be held in honor.” 23 And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death. 2 Samuel 6 |
I saw the article at work today. I hope we don't jinx the Ebola-free status before the outbreak is over. |
GenBuhari: Abacha is another African herohuh? what planet are you from? ![]() I'm willing to bet you're most likely an African American. I've noticed there are a few like you on this website. idealizing and talking amorously about all the worst things that ever happened to Africa.. please move there already because you need a serious reality check. |
yeah. I remember we would use it sometimes if we want the taste... but it was so much work.. i prefer the blender ![]() there are strong blenders now that work without need to add water so that will bring out the same taste. these ones are very expensive though why do you call it an "ancient" technique. there's nothing ancient about it imo it's still in existence and maybe popular in rural areas |
hensben: so you expect me to be wearing atilogun dress everywhere when its not time for it, you ehn! I suppose check younow you are getting my point. culture is a WAY OF LIFE. It is your EVERYDAY existence. if you no longer dance atilogun, then it is no longer part of your culture but a past history that you are remembering once in a while. just like visiting a museum. when culture changes, the old way of life becomes a part of history. We should remember our history but doesn't mean we shouldn't move forward and accept changes to our culture. remember, your forefathers probably danced atilogun everyday. but today, it makes no sense. our culture has evolved. in the future, we may have better technology and won't even need cars anymore. but once in a while, we might use it to remember our past history. doesn't mean we should start seeing change as a negative thing. |
hensben: who is referring to wearing of open clothes herewhat do you do on valentine's day? you SHOP flowers, candy etc.on christmas, you SHOP, on thanksgiving, you SHOP. someone needs to manufacture those products in order to buy them. "religious" holidays like christmas in western countries are for SHOPPING. they don't represent anything spiritual anymore. Many western people are secular and no longer religious. those holidays have transformed to being focused on consumption. it is a culture of consumption based on capitalism. hence why economic development is related to culture. stop talking about natural occurence as if chistmas is a natural occurence like earthquake or rain. it is MAN-MADE and it is always changing. christmas 100 yrs ago is VERY different from christmas today. In fact, jesus wasn't born on christmas day over 2000 yrs ago. it used to be a pagan holiday and the romans adapted it to chrstianity hence paganism also influenced the western christian culture. ALL CULTURES BORROW from others. even the idea of "whites" is a recent development. categorizing people based on color is something that is a result of cultural change as a result of colonization, immigration etc. educate yourself pls. I am losing my patience here ![]() |
hensben: who is referring to wearing of open clothes herewhere do you see open clothes? do those women look like they are dancing traditional chinese music or westernized music. what is your definition of culture? you are the one who mentioned "atilongun" or whatever you called it. Chinese people aren't living in the past. they are very westernized. very plain and simple. you clearly don't even know what you are talking about. and can't define what culture means. atilogun involves traditional dressing, drums and music. does your profile pic represent that kind of culture? no. don't be a hypocrite. your westernized profile pic says it all. when you change your profile pic to one where you are dancing atilogun like this then I will listen to you ![]() |
Even USA is changing. USA and Europe are very secular countries now whereas in the past they were very christian. when Britain colonized Nigeria, they brought christianity. but now, in Britian, majority of people are secular and don't go to church anymore. the churches are just relics and turned into museums. all cultures always go through change. |
hensben: you are not still getting it, you are mistaking development of a country to culture. Now, my 2nd post was referring to chinese been developed and industrialize yet they still hold on to their culture(culture is a natural thing that occur centuries ago)..well, have a nice day.well seems like you have never been to china. Chinese people are not living like centuries ago. China is very modern. it is RAPIDLY westernizing and changing. It is changing faster than Nigeria will ever dream of. culture isn't static. it is always changing. |
hensben: you are not still getting it, you are referring development of a country to culture..well, have a nice day.you don't know what the definition of culture is. you think culture is all about "traditional" dancing. culture is education, food, music, cars, buildings, language, greetings, government, economy (socialism, capitalism etc), religion (islam, christianity etc), technology, media etc etc. everything related to how human beings live their lives. not just stuff you read in history or see in museums. that is extinct culture. the reason our culture is changing is because we are developing. the opposite of development is regression isn't it? if our culture didn't change, will will probably all still be living in mud huts in primitive societies. the chinese govt has made it a law for all chinese children to learn english. if you listen to chinese youth music, you will find that it is very westernized. etc google "c-pop" to see what their music looks like. most people will copy the culture that is the most developed. and so far, western culture is the most developed. hence why you have a picture of yourself posing by a bmw in western clothes etc. If Asia becomes more successful than the west, we will also start copying asia. development and culture are very related. remember culture is a way of life. and most people want to live a convenient life so they will always choose a culture that gives them a convenient or better life. ex. learning english to get a good job and better life vs native language that will not get you anywhere. |
hensben: you are not still making sense, how does culture(way of life in other word, our nature) concerns using material things, all these things you mentioned are secondary aspect of life, how does dancing atilongun and other dance relate to owning bmw, wearing western clothes. chinese that stick to their culture are they not using what you mentioned above huh, its like you didnt get my message.I don't even know whether to respond to you because you seem completely ignorant of the subject matter. is a BMW a traditional drum? does it look like you are about to dance to bata drum in the pic or about to drive BMW? western clothes. who made those clothes? aren't jobs and careers a way of life? do you spend your day weaving traditional clothes and farming or working in the office? china has one of the most rapidly westernizing culture in the entire world. Why do you think it is developing so fast and becoming more developed? Have you ever been to China to see how rapidly it is changing? "Over the last two decades, the Peoples Republic of China has been rapidly adopting western technology and culture in everyday life. This can be seen in their wide acceptance of everything from cell phones to American television shows and fast food. McDonald's has already established 560 of their restaurants in China and soon will be adding 100 more. KFC fried chicken franchises have been even more popular. There are 1000 KFC outlets throughout the country with more than 100 in Beijing alone. Taco Bell, A & W, and Pizza Hut are not far behind. In 2003, the Chinese government made the decision to require all children in their country, beginning with the 3rd grade of elementary school, to learn English. This will very likely accelerate westernization. " http://anthro.palomar.edu/change/change_1.htm |
"culture is the full range of learned human behavior patterns. ...Culture is a powerful human tool for survival, but it is a fragile phenomenon. It is constantly changing and easily lost because it exists only in our minds. Our written languages, governments, buildings, and other man-made things are merely the products of culture. They are not culture in themselves. For this reason, archaeologists can not dig up culture directly in their excavations. The broken pots and other artifacts of ancient people that they uncover are only material remains that reflect cultural patterns--they are things that were made and used through cultural knowledge and skills." http://anthro.palomar.edu/culture/culture_1.htm |
hensben: your statement is null and void, and also, consist of myopic view ma...thankslook at your profile pic and tell me you're not a hypocrite. A lot of the people on this thread are hypocrites. if you condemn borrowing of culture yet you want a BMW, wear western clothes and want good modern roads. |
this topic is pointless because ALL cultures borrow. That's how cultures survive. whether in Africa, or Europe or Asia or anywhere. you borrow and then you put your own twist on it. we will complain till kindgom come but that's the way it is. we should learn to accept change because change is inevitable. older people will always complain about the younger generation and how the culture has changed. the younger folk will grow up and complain about the next generation. and on and on and on....without realizing that a stagnant culture is on its way to extinction. it is change that keeps a culture alive. |
China is still partially socialist. |
Because they spend a lot of time reading. many avid readers develop myopia or nearsightedness. It's not a bad thing to read books, it makes you smarter, but make sure you do so under appropriate conditions. Make sure the area is well lit, put the book at an appropriate distance from your eyes and make sure the print is large enough that you don't have to strain your eyes. Take breaks every 20 min from reading and make sure to blink multiple times per minute. Spend time looking at far away objects to train your eyes. because if you read too much or concentrate on seeing things that are close to your face, you might gradually lose the ability to see far away objects clearly (aka nearsightedness). eat lots of carrots and vegetables that contain vitamin a. they're good for the eyes. Same advice goes for those who spend a lot of time staring at the computer screen. |
leisuretym: We have oil, they don't! We should be living betteroil is simply a raw material. it's worthless unless you can refine it and put it to good use. besides, the day is fast approaching when most developed countries will not need our oil anymore. they have developed technology to procure shale gas from underground. |
Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. -John F Kennedy Excellent post @davo3286 |
yay this is good news. |
