sounds like a naive idea to me. if I were rich, I would simply buy off all the shares from the poor people. |
Thanks a ton for all the information. I talked to a friend and she said it was too risky. The whole process seems complicated enough anyway. I will stick with what I have for now and maybe sometime in the future an opportunity will present itself. |
@carpenter and ernie, Thanks for the information. I have absolutely no clue where to begin. I do not own a Nigerian bank account and have not lived in Nigeria for at least a decade. 10-15% is really high. The average return here in the US is about 6% so I thought it would be a good idea to take advantage of that. How do I go about opening an account from abroad? Is that even possible? I just sent an email through the "contact us" link on the FBN website asking for details on how to open a mutual fund account for someone based abroad. I hope I get a response. |
carpenter:Hi Carpenter and Ernie4life, what do you suggest for someone living abroad who knows absolutely nothing about the market in Nigeria but wants to participate. |
Sophyrocks:preach it. they (TV01, misogynist, and their friends) need to start accepting responsibility for themselves rather than the whole "blame the white man" and "bash the black woman" trope that is being overused and abused. they don't know how embarrassing they sound when they begin to whine like buffoons. how can the west corrode a morality that doesn't exist to begin with. https://www.nairaland.com/1976988/ghanian-fraudster-duped-lonely-british |
I wonder why the OP didn't say anything about his fellow male style of non-conservative dressing. |
TV01:YES because I am a woman and I love myself and I will gladly freeze my eggs if It were offered to me at a price I can afford. It provides me with options and choices. It gives me the possibility to have a child at 25, 35 and 45. An option that would otherwise be very scarce. here is what you have to say about women on another thread: TV01:a woman who merely wants to hang pretty curtains will not freeze her eggs. This technology is not targeted toward her. Do you think such a woman will be ambitious enough to even work at google? For an ambitious woman who wants to do something more with her life. a woman who wants to become a builder, designer, constructor and leader is who this technology is designed for. there are plenty of women who want to "hang pretty curtains" and there are also plenty of women who have more ambitious goals and dreams. That is the great thing about choice. people (as long as they are not slaves) are free to choose what they want to do and the problem arises when people like you are hellbent on limiting women's choices because you feel you are superior to women and will do anything you think will maintain such a status quo. rubbish. TV01:seeing that I am a woman and all. I must have a smaller brain incapable of building or contributing anything tangible to society beside arranging curtains. I am so happy that you are zealous for my best interest. It is imperative that my domestic curtain arrangement skills do not become imperiled by my "immoral" goals to lead an organization one day or become a boss.......I say thanks but no thanks. |
InvertedHammer:"general mode of dressing" rules applies to kids and school children only. Women are not children or property. This is the 21st century and last time I checked, Sharia law does not apply in Nigeria. If men are westernizing their clothing, why do you have a problem with women westernizing their clothing? TV01:please don't try to flatter yourself. You have not built any civilization. the white men and women have. |
EnlightenedSoul:Not surprised. |
akinsadeez:exactly. |
InvertedHammer:Why can't you explain it? It is a very valid question. What is provocative dressing? Please tell us because I want to know too! A woman is not free to come out of the house without judgement from left and right. Is lipstick provocative? Is a skirt provocative? what length? toe length skirt? ankle length skirt? knee length skirt? Should a woman wear a blouse that lets you know that she owns a pair of breast? or should she throw on a sack to cover up the fact that she has a pair of buttocks and breasts? Her hair is also provocative isn't it. She should cover it up? How about eyeshadow? Or high heels? those are too provocative? or maybe what about trousers? can she wear it? In fact, women should hide all evidence of her femininity and womanhood because it is shameful and provocative. Abeg tell us. Abi the west only corrodes women's morality? what effect does it have on men? you are a man after all. give us your insight on men's morality and the west's corroding effect on it. since you prefer to focus so much on women's dressing and morality. shior. TV01:you made no logical point in your post. Again, it's a matter of CHOICE for women. If this statement is unintelligible to you then tough luck. what you call a "horror" is a blessing for many women. besides, I never said life expectancy was driving later marriage. What I said is that increased life expectancy AND later marriages are contributing factors to late parenthood. and consequently late parenthood results in increased need for fertility treatment like the type that is the subject of this discussion. Read clearly next time then maybe you will be less confused. |
Congratulations to the Super Falcons. African champions ![]() |
Ebola and international scrutiny has brought some good changes to Nigeria. Now we are taking outbreaks more seriously and becoming more informed and aware.Funny how many people in Nigeria don't even know what Lassa Fever is yet it is endemic to our country and has been killing people for decades. It spreads the same way Ebola does and has similar symptoms. |
carefreewannabe:exactly! some men don't dress properly as well. If they are grown adults, that's their business not mine. I can make judgments but i'm not entitled to any right over their dressing. |
5minsmadness:women can dress however they want. men can also dress however they want. She is a grown woman and doesn't need you to be telling her what to wear so yes I agree with her. it's her body and non of your business. |
EfemenaXY:lol thank you ![]() www.nairaland.com/attachments/1810959_crawfordintroducinglocketothesobopeople09777244_jpeg2b66da0fe48a1783103de017242a95b2 |
foolish thread created by a boko haram member. carefreewannabe:don't mind him. He wears western clothing but hates when women wear it. ask him if he wears agbada to work every morning. |
TV01:You don't make any sense here. This is a choice that is not forced on anyone. So I don't understand why you are typing long pointless essay and giving yourself unnecessary headache. How did birth control pills impact health care provision? isn't the cost of paid maternity leave also borne somewhere? Please try to think logically. Women are making the choice to post-pone child birth. This is a trend that is not going anywhere as long as life expectancy continues to rise. Age of first marriage is also rising so this suggests that this is a choice men are also making. if men and women are marrying at a later age, isn't it logical that they will also have children at later ages and therefore creating need for fertility treatments? you making a condescending comment that you "care" about women's bodies more than women themselves makes you look like a fool. Many of the women who are undergoing these procedures have supportive, educated and enlightened husbands. If you don't agree with it, no one is forcing you to marry and post-pone child birth. It's a matter of choice and women are allowed to have choice. they can marry early, marry late, focus on career, become housewives or whatever.men can also do the same. it is a matter of CHOICE. abeg focus on your own health and stop starving yourself over women's reproductive rights issues. go and eat your food. |
fairheven:I certainly would especially if offered to me for free. It's a form of insurance. Most women plan to give birth in their prime years but sometimes life happens. we may not find the right partner on time or we may not be financially ready. In fact, some women may already have a child but when they turn 35+ they want another child but can't. In that case, they can use the frozen eggs to conceive another child. there are many possibilities. |
LOL. Why are so many men on here catching hypertension over an issue that doesn't concern them. It is some of these same men that like to make fun of women in their 30s and call them "expired goods" or make comments like "go and find a husband, your clock is ticking" now there is technology to freeze women's eggs and other fertility treatments so that women can have children later in life and we are still complaining. na wa Google and facebook are not forcing anyone to freeze their eggs. They simply cover the cost as part of their medical insurance plan for the women who CHOOSE to do so. fertility treatments are expensive so it is nice to have an employer that covers the cost. as the technology advances further, hopefully the cost will be driven down.. |
this is a silly thread. All Nigerians should be collaborating together. How can we move forward if we cannot leave tribal sentiments out of our politics. |
Ttalk:please don't pay mind to GenBuhari, he has no capacity for rational thinking because his mind is clouded by self-victimization and hate. He is not even Nigerian. he's African American (akata) and there are a few of them on this website. This same GenBuhari created a thread to praise Abacha and Idi Amin simply because he thinks they hate white people. Can you not say that he is the one wishing Nigeria and Africa evil? |
GenBuhari, an oil crisis IS looming but you need to lay off on your conspiracy theories against the USA. The real reason is that after 9/11 and the iraq war etc, the USA decided that it needs to reduce its dependence on foreign oil esp middle east so the USA developed technology to drill oil from its own soil. This process is known as fracking and the oil is called shale. They are even investing in green energy (solar etc) and doing whatever it takes to reduce the dependence. USA also has a ton of its own oil reserve and like you said, it is now #2 in oil production. Right now, there is a surplus of oil in the global market because countries like Nigeria, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia etc are SO ECONOMICALLY DEPENDENT ON EXPORTING OIL that they refuse to decrease their oil production/supply to match the reduced global demand hence why the price is tumbling. it's all about supply and demand if you study economics. there is no conspiracy in this. unless you don't know how to take your destiny in your own hands and always want to blame any and everyone for your situation. Of course, if Nigeria keeps producing oil that nobody wants, it will be forced to reduce the price. when you go to yaba market and see tons of shirts on the floor, won't you bargain the price down? does that mean that you are a evil conspirator trying to create a crisis and destroy the merchant's business? abeg. Nigeria needs to wisen up and diversify its economy. The era of crude oil is over. Shale oil is what's in now and even OPEC will probably be dismantling soon. |
good move. It's in our best interest also that Liberia is able to contain the crisis. so we are helping ourselves by helping them. now I hope that money isn't embezzled by corrupt officials in liberia. Nigeria had better hire and send someone to officiate spending oversight and provide feedback on how the money is spent. |
interesting comments. Although I don't agree with most of Moynihan's politics or ideology, I very much like and agree with the statement. I believe that it's all in the way you interpret it. @ghostofsparta, -many world class universities are very affordable and in some cases free. these universities are sustained by endowments (donations) and do not rely simply on fees hence why they are able to accept students mostly based on intellectual promise.ex. at MIT, harvard etc tuition is free if you are middle class or less. http://web.mit.edu/facts/tuition.html most funding will have to come from the government (tax payers) and donors or philanthropists. -I'm glad you admit that your formal education is limited to secondary school because this partially explains that boko-haramic thread you created claiming that ebola and HIV are man-made by the western world. The quote about world class universities doesn't apply to the west only. The existence of world class universities extend spatially and temporally.ex Timbuktu few centuries ago. another example is China's rising research universities: https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2014/08/27/new-book-explores-achievements-and-challenges-chinas-rising-research-universities -universities are incubators. society needs institutions like it for the kind of research that leads to things like the computer you are typing from. without universities, you won't have the internet, TV, radio, space technology, computers, smartphones, cars, pharmaceuticals and most technologies we take for granted that may even seem to be the selling point of western civilization. even many public policies are based on ideas first developed by intellectuals and students in universities. here's an example: http://www.udel.edu/udaily/2015/oct/university-research-100814.html |

we just like to pretend as if being gay is an imported or oyinbo thing when it is simply a human thing irregardless of country or race. he is an hairstylist for christ sake. many male hairstylists are gay. think about it. he loves styling hair and other girly stuff. but I give this man kudos for being brave and open about it. Maybe he can become an inspiration to others to stop hiding their true self for fear of persecution. |
We often like to compare Nigeria to developed countries and become frustrated by how far behind we seem to be. I found this quote in a blog and it really struck me as being very valid. Development is a very slow process and requires mass education. High quality one. Look at all the developed countries and something they all share in common is their education rates and intellectual output, whether in the arts, humanities or sciences. These are the things that inform culture which in turn reinforces development. What do you think? Here's the quote: When former Sen. Daniel Moynihan was serving as ambassador to India in the early 1970s, he was asked what Bombay, now Mumbai, needed to do to become a great global city. Moynihan answered, 'Build a world-class university and wait 200 years.'" |

. It takes the structured ways of men to design, build construct and expand. To maintain order. Feminising it ultimately leads to ruin. It was Adams failure to grasp this and act in his capacity as a male lead that led to the fall.
She has never called me that name before and can't even try it. I hate it as much as I particularly hate her calling me honey-pie which for some reasons she seems to like
