Some part of a building project are not for diy’ers. I think you should get someone to guide you.
Alternatively, post your building plan here and get an option quote from in-house roofers to compare price/quantities.

I didn’t pay more than 650k or thereabout for the woods used on the project below. It was supplied by @mountmoriah (https://www.kobocity.com/u/mountmoriah) on POD and I still have some quantities left on site.

I’m also roofing 2 building in Abeokuta this month end. I doubt we are spending up to 1.4m of roofing woods and it’s 3 unit of 2 bedroom x 2

I have an engineer... I don't know how to explain it..he doesn't listen to me and does what he wants (he knows better though but I ask for opinions here and when I relay it to him, he gets angry).

Once he brings them, (which I doubt) just sack him and and go get the small difference yourself.

Before you do this make sure what he is about to bring is not considerably less.

I don't know anything about woods so, I can't tell if what he wants to bring is quality... Only my site manager can confirm the quality and that's when the woods have been delivered. I am only trusting his words and I don't think it's ethical to return the woods when he brings them... I don't want issues with anyone.

I just spoke to my engineer, he suggested I ask for a refund, tomorrow we go to the market together.

If you can’t afford the difference, see if you can get slight reduction in the price.

Let him bring the woods. Count it and pay him the difference.

Don’t waste your time on unfocused distractions!

I don’t know the size of your build so I can’t tell if the amount you’re spending on carcassing is too much or not.

It's a small 3 bedroom bungalow with 39ft by 49ft size.. Does it mean no one uses by 12ft in Benin?

Prices of materials changes per second these days. So it's difficult to tell if that is genuine or not.
Don't send him the money. Put that 65k in your pocket, go to the market and check the current prices at different mills then go with the guy and buy and pay for the goods. Pack your wood to your site that same day. Stand there and ensure the quantity you paid for is what is loaded. Follow the truck all the way to your site. Trust no one. I repeat: trust no One.


If u don't have time to do these things yourself then send the money, close your eyes and pray.

NB: don't start woodwork until u have enough money for the roofing sheets.

He is getting the woods direct from the bush and he promised that its quality...told me the woods in the market are not strong woods, they will be attacked by termites (even after treatment) and will wear out with time.

I made the payment immediately I was given the price list, paid him full amount he told me last week only to get a call that he went to the Bush this morning and the price has increased... Is it my fault that he didn't pay immediately I sent the money to him?

That was why I was delaying cos I wanted to gather funds for wood work and roofing.. Only to find out now that I am spending more than half of my budget for wood work.

Use what your carpenters are comfortable with. I’d prefer 18ft wood too if we have it here in the south west.

I am not taking sides with anyone oh, but if I were the seller, the offer for refund would be off the table the moment she brought the issue here to "tarnish" my image. This issue would have been resolved off nairaland with ease, in my opinion. The seller would have lost a few thousands, but this dent on his rep (I am assuming he is legit since people have come out on here to vouch for him) would not have been created. If seller is a scam as we all are portraying, I think he would have backed off from fighting this course, deactivated and created a new moniker... Or even refunded to save face.


Madam buyer, ma'am, to some extent, I believe you, but I also believe that you took the wrong approach. You started dancing even before the band started playing. No one tarnished anyone's image.. I have carefully gone through the thread, from start of the issue to my current post. The seller knew what he was doing, when you want to buy a device, you already know what you want in that device, it was clear she told him what she wanted but in a bid to sell off goods no one is willing to buy, he had to lie to sell it off to her.

A seller is to be blamed for not letting the buyer know the functionalities of their products. Give the buyer what they want...first thing to do when a buyer comes to you is to ask "What exactly do you want" "What functions are you looking for" What is your budget " etc.

When the buyer found out the tab can't access YouTube, she requested to get an exchange and won't mind the additional cost but the seller refused giving sílly excuses (red flag) There is no policy that says no refund of bad items in the market (only dubious sellers say no refund). If he wants to gain his image back, it's very simple, change the tab, everyone will modify their posts regarding this issue... Case close and we all move on.
