A trip is a trip. A trip can be 20tons, 30tons depending on the size (bucket) of the lorry.

However, that trip of 20tons you may have been told is actually 15/16tons. There is widespread overstatement in the granite trade.

So instead of quoting tons, get them to tell you the size of the vehicle then you will have an idea of the ton. In the granite trade, price absolutely depends on the size of the vehicle. Make sure they don't confuse you with tonnage.

Now I get you. Why is the engineer calling it a German floor. Hope there is no hanky panky. They shouldn't be calling it German floor. Just make sure you are not getting a quote for German floor only to end up doing flooring. The difference in price is considerable.

Again since you are doing flooring, that measurement you gave earlier may be overstated. Flooring area is considerably smaller than German floor area for the same built. Just be aware of the fine details and you will be good.

The picture of the "German floor" or the scope of work. For you to get the right advice, the scope and type of work should not be confused. Are you now doing flooring or German floor? The two are radically different.

They have not started cos I have not bought materials... I guess it's concrete flooring just like KO said here because German floor is only done during foundation stage (my understanding from his reply).. I only called it German floor cos my engineer called it German floor.

Do you mind showing us a snapshot? If you are not comfortable showing a photo that's fine but I think a picture "one kind, one kind" will help with the confusion of German floor and you will get the right appraisal and cost of the current situation.

Not "German floor".

German floor as we call it, is done at foundation level.

For this one, you only need max 20 tonnes of granite, 20t of sand and 40 - 50 bags of cement..

Oga engineer called it German floor... So, I don't need to do German floor again? A trip of granite is how many tonnes?

40ft (12metres) x 50ft (15metres) is equivalent to an area of 180 square metres.

The quantity of material and cost of labour will depend on the thickness of the oversite concrete (ground floor slab).

I have already done the roofing, fixed the back and front doors, aluminium guy is still working on the casement windows.. The next is German floor and he is suggesting 4"thickness, that it's the best...only issue we had was his quotes on materials...

I used about 80-90 tons (bought 100 tons and Ihad left over, also, there were times when they way bill showed around 21 tons for each 20 ton trip) to cast a 312 sqm slab at 6" thickness with more 50 columns and close to 60 connecting beams.

So I think 30 tons would run 180 sq.m for you at 4" thickness. Except you want to go beyond 4".

Also the 150 bags is too much in my opinion. 80-90 bags should sort it.

First i think the 40ft by 50ft you mentioned is way less than 350sq. metres. It's more like half.

2000 square ft. is like 187 sq metres.

if you're doing 4inch thickness, that'll be 0.1m

volume of concrete you'd need would then be about 18.7 cubic metres or 18,700 litres.

so your cost would typically be

1. wood and carpenter cost - maybe 80k
2. laterite and ramming cost- really can't say
3. cost of 18.7 cubic metres of concrete- perhaps 30 tons granite, 30 tons sharp sand and 70 bags of cement (350k+ 80 k+280k) plus water say 750k
4. labour cost and perhaps cost of mixer.

i'd say you look for 1m excluding cost of laterite and ramming

Smh... That's the roof meters, my mistake sorry. It is 177.5m².
187m² = 30 tons both granite and sand. 70 bags of cement but I got this for 178m²

60 tons granite and sand
150 bags of cement
Labour 150k.

I have done that...I just love getting opinions and quotes from here cos it keeps me at ease knowing fully well I am not being ripped off.. I can use your opinions to argue .

Forget about argument on a serious note, I am always put on the right track whenever I am here.. I know how many times I have been helped and disasters where avoided because of brilliant minds here..

There are two versions. The fake and the Original.


When people see the Original and the prices are high they would be mouthing off that it is too expensive. Then go ahead and buy 15k fake ones and complain about how it didn't last. Even ordinary binatone is minimum 25k nowadays.

Lol... Is it about how expensive it is? I bought the blender 26,500 (still have the receipt and so called warranty card) my biggest regret..

I have used it, people close to me used it also and can tell you that It is fake, it doesn't blend well, doesn't last.. Didn't even use mine upto 6months.. Find Bosch or binatone blenders
