We don't know how to use time to succeed in Nigeria. Copycats everywhere in Nigeria. Once you reveal a solid business that is working, Nigerians will destroy that business for you by turning it into an all comers affair. Better to keep my mouth shut.

Only if Nigerians can stop hating themselves, then we can work together to change the destiny of this nation. Look, there are some businesses you can venture into in Nigeria that will turn you into a multimillionaire or even a billionaire. So many ideas but hatred and envy is the number one enemy in Nigeria. People are so hateful and envious of any small progress you make. Planlessness everywhere in Nigeria. If you can be patient and engage in these ventures I am talking about, you will make it.

thank for ur advice.
according to ur experience, are you saying that organic farming is more effective than inorganic farming, that i should not buy superagro and npk fertiliser.
Yes, organic farming is the best. Pig waste, rabbit waste, goat waste, poultry waste are good to use as manure. Don't plant mediately you spread the animal dung on the land. Wait for a month before planting your crops. Let the nutrients sink into the soil first. Thanks.

Sporting federations are intentionally designed by politicians to wade off any external forces. This isn't peculiar to the NBBF (I even think theirs is a bit better) but virtually every sports federation in Nigeria. The best sports federation in Nigeria currently is the one that either hasn't started or the one that started a few years ago. That way the proprietors can shape it to fit global standards.

The D'Tigers players were throwing around suggestions on how to get IK Diogu and some of their folks abroad to context, almost immediately the NBBF board started updating their constitution to include compulsory residence in Nigeria as criteria to vie for office. The congress of these association is also filled with Politicians who are selected to keep the status quo. What is happening with South Sudan Basketball for instance cannot happen here.

I'm aware the present minister wants to do something about it, but there's a limit to how far he can go. FIBA and FIFA alike will protect them should they decide against change. It's why they continue ethe impunity cause they have protection. I remember Jonathan tried this with the NFF but was advised against it cause FIFA was going to ban us for "interference". The only way I know government can force these folks out is to make the office uninteresting and the only way to do that is to completely divest from it. Once they no longer have government free money and have to run to sponsors to fund these associations, many will voluntarily leave, allowing those with the business acumen to take their place.

Until then, Aluta continua.

AgricultureRe: Stop Buying Vegetables In The Market! Your Life Could Be In Danger by Redman44(m): 12:20am On Aug 15, 2024
Estorah:
In today’s world, buying commercial vegetables and fruits can be risky. Many of them are treated with high levels of fertilizers, dangerous herbicides, and contaminants. Poor handling conditions often lead to them carrying harmful substances, which contribute to the alarming rise in terminal diseases in our country.

Fruits are not spared either—common fruits like bananas are sometimes ripened overnight with carbide, leading to serious health complications. Mangoes, oranges, guavas, lemons, and many others can also suffer from poor handling, with reports even suggesting that some are forced to ripen inside gutters!

To protect yourself and your loved ones, consider growing your own vegetables at home. You can start with easy-to-grow options like scent leaf, curry leaf, spinach, hospital-too-far leaf, water leaf and ugu.
Vegetables such as carrots, cucumbers, cabbages, beetroots, and tomatoes can also be grown from seeds, which are readily available and packaged for easy planting.
Medicinal trees like moringa, lemon, and soursop can also be grown by purchasing from trusted fruit gardens.
Do a bit of research on best practices for growing each of them and plan your home garden.

Don’t have a backyard? No problem! You can use flowerpots, vases, or even buckets with proper ventilation to grow your vegetables.
This way, you can be sure of what you’re eating, boost your immunity, and keep those terminal diseases far away.

Start your home garden today and share your experiences with us in the comments below. Let’s embrace a healthier lifestyle together!
I fully support you. Southerners need to start utilizing the space in their compound. A one plot compound can contain up to 10 fruit trees. It is all about managing the space. Bananas, coconuts, Plantain , Oranges, soursop and grated mangoes can be grown in your compound. Thanks for your message.
AgricultureRe: Grains Price Update From Northern State by Redman44(m): 8:26pm On Aug 14, 2024
[quote author=Teetee777 post=131508046]I prayed for the Southerners to start planting all these common man foods and depend on themselves without going to the North, but let them start before we can be jubilating. Last time, when the northern refused to allow the grains to enter the southern states, they made a mouth then that the southern would soon be farming all the grains, and we are now in 2024, with nothing to show for it.

The insecurities that affected those farmers in Southern states: did the Southern govt have a solution for the Fulani bandit since all these atrocities had been started. Or do you think that without solving the problem of Fulani, the farmers will have access to their farms

Is it only the middlemen that caused the prices of grains to shoot up or federal govt policy? Is it today that the middle men have been doing business in Nigeria or you will tell me that middlemen were not in Jonathan and Buhari regime?
[/quote

Things were not expensive like this during Jonathan's time. And yes, middlemen in this era are very greedy. How does exchange rate really affect the price of Millet and Guinea Corn? Others can joke, but I am serious about cultivating coarse grains like Millet and Guinea Corn in southern Nigeria. Bandits will soon be dealt with in southern Nigeria.
AgricultureRe: Grains Price Update From Northern State by Redman44(m): 12:23pm On Aug 14, 2024
Even in times of scarcity, to sell a bag of maize for 98,000 naira is ridiculous. Not to talk of Millet and Guinea Corn that were sold for close to 90,000 naira per 100 kg bag. These are grains that are the common man's food. Let Southerners start planting some of these crops or find a way to buy foodstuff directly from the North by themselves. No one is saying you should not make your profit, but not too excessively. Cheers.
AgricultureRe: Grains Price Update From Northern State by Redman44(m): 12:02pm On Aug 14, 2024
Teetee777:
Good morning

Price updates will start by the weekend. we are now in another year of harvest period from August to December where all the grains will be harvested and cheaper, but CAN THE PRICES GO BACK TO THE PRECIOUS UPTREND MARKET? NO.

Since the removal of subsidy and the floating of dollars, the prices of all grains have broken the RESISTANCE LEVEL from the previous low in the uptrend market.

The new harvest will force the market prices to pull back BEFORE the prices move up again and create another HIGH price.

In summary,
No more 50k for a bag of beans
No more 30k for a bag of maize
No more 30k for a bag of soya
No more 18k for a bag of onions and many more.
As much as Nigerians appreciate the need for farmers to reap the rewards of their hardwork, the truth is that middlemen contribute a lot to the high prices of grains and foodstuff from the North. No one says grains should be too cheap, but what are the costs of cultivating Millet and Guinea Corn that makes them so expensive per 100kg bag? Millet and Guinea Corn and even Soya Beans do not need much inputs or fertilizers to get a reasonable harvest. The transport costs are also inflated by the transporters. Well, let me give a warning here.... The South will soon start cultivating all these highly pricef northern grains and foodstuff. No one has a monopoly of land and cultivation. Cheers.

AgricultureRe: Farmers: How're You Coping With The Drought? by Redman44(m): 7:53pm On Aug 10, 2024
Saintinoo:
Sir, you have to understand how these things work. I swear, farmers are not the problem of high cost of food, merchants are. Come to the North, farmers sell their crops at a very cheap rate to these merchants, they(merchants) store these crops , create artificial scarcity and sell at a high cost.
Then the South should take Agriculture seriously, so that we can stop depending on the North for the food we eat. Let the merchants go and eat the grains they buy by themselves. They can't continue exploiting the Southerners. We can also plant Millet, Guinea Corn and Maize on millions of hectares here in the South.
AgricultureRe: Farmers: How're You Coping With The Drought? by Redman44(m): 6:52pm On Aug 10, 2024
Saintinoo:
August break since April? Most of you will just open your month wide and talk on something you know nothing about. Those crops you see there have not seen good rain fall since April/May.

Why didn't farmer complain for many years and just this year. You think the farmer will be affected more? Na you weh go buy their crops for market go suffer am. A bag of rice at 150k loading.
Hmn. We should not exploit each other due to this period of rain not falling. Farmers should consider the suffering masses. Some crops like Sorghum, Millet and Cassava do not need too much inputs or fertilizers. And they also do well during droughts. So, why are they expensive in the markets? Why?

Just asking, how do arabian countries or foreign countries that have very scanty rain feed?

For learning purposes
People should try and locate their farms near rivers, ponds, or streams. They can then get water to irrigate their farms manually or mechanically until the rains return. Or they should consider digging boreholes when buying farmland. The weather can be unpredictable. Cheers.

D'Tigress - Planning for the Future

The D'Tigress did us proud at the just concluded Olympics. They exemplified what it means to imbibe the Nigerian spirit and set the pedestal for greatness that hopefully we take advantage of. Looking at our current roster, it becomes necessary that we begin to plan for the future as critical members of this team are very unlikely to participate in the next Olympics.

For instance, Ezinne Kalu and Promise Amukamara are currently aged 33 and and 31 respectively, and would be 37 and 35 by 2028. Even if they are still active professionally at this time, they very likely would be past their prime. Seven of the 12 ladies who represented Nigeria in Paris will be at least aged 30 by 2028. There's therefore need to begin to scout for new talents and start introducing them into the team as we plan to medal in the USA.

I've highlighted below players I think should be either be brought into the team or be on our watchlist.

1. Oluchi Okananwa: Aged 20. she's a guard who currently plays for Duke WBB. An hybrid of Promise and Ezinne.

2. Kiki Iriafen: Aged 21. A Forward that needs no introduction. Currently plays for USC WBB. She's an hybrid of A'ja Wilson and Nneka Ogwumike.

3. Vivian Iwuchukwu: a freshman at USC. Don't know too much about her but definitely one to watch out for.

4. Clarice Uche Akunwafo: aged 21. She's a 6'6 center that plays for USC WBB. A great defensive presence and one to look out for.

5. Dominique Onu: a 5'10 guard aged 21. Also a member of the USC WBB. One to watch.
@ lovewins, how many of these ladies come home to Nigeria on holidays? Are they passionate about representing Nigeria? Yes, we can use them but we should look at our local talents in Nigeria, polish them up and send them to the USA, Europe etc for maximum exposure.
