Why don't you partner with others with the same vision on Nairaland? Look for people with similar ideas to yours and partner with them. Then you can share proceeds with them. What do you think about that ?

You can get someone to clear the land and then you pay for making mounds and provide seeds. Then you and your partner contribute money for weeding etc. You then share profits. Cheers.

Their is virtually nothing that grows in north that can’t grow here, in fact it can grow here more than there because we have enough rainfall.
But due to unexposure, education and westernization, people see farming here as work of the forgotten, poor, wretched, so that is why their is limit to what will do. And we are not exploring new stuffs. Omo, the time I planted watermelon in Oyo state and it was very big, many were shouting how is it possible, they said they think only north plant it.
Seriously, their are so many facts that we need to unlearn and relearn.

You have spoken well, Sir. One Aboki told me two days ago that Cassava is being cultivated in Katsina State through irrigation. I was shocked . These Northerners are very serious about farming. There are no limits to what can be cultivated anywhere. New seeds and cultivars are coming out every year. Plants can adapt to any environment after some years. People should watch more documentaries and read more online. We are yet to scratch the surface when it comes to Agriculture in Nigeria. Thanks.

There are secrets to teaching you need to know. Some private schools pay very well in Lagos. Look towards part time teaching and home lessons. Drop your CV with good schools in Lagos. Then negotiate for good money as a part time teacher. Weigh your options well. Cheers.

I amam currently working as a teacher in a school and my monthly salary after tax and school deduction is 47,700.. Tax is 1300 and school monthly deduction is 1000 (refundable when you want to quit).

The school is an average school, and S.S classes school fee is around 100k-160k.. I have walk some distance like 25 minute. Inside of me, I desire to start learning a skill like Digital marketing, and I don't want to stay long in this job with the current situation of Nigeria.

Do you advice I quit this job? I'm thinking of saving up some money first before leaving maybe next year., 50k job is useless as P in psychology because you can't even take good care of yourself or rent a good house, annual salary is 600k..

You can still be a teacher and make good money. With WAEC gradually becoming computer based ( from 2026 ), and cheating being reduced drastically in exams, good teachers will be highly needed. Try and get a part time job as a teacher . 50k for a full time Secondary school teacher is too low. You can get a part time teaching job for 50 k with negotiation in Lagos. Then you can augment it with home lessons. What subjects are you teaching, please? If it is Maths or English, you should leave the school and go freelance. Search for big schools in your area and drop your CV with them. Tell them you're available to teach part time. Then negotiate wisely with the principals for a good salary. Even for other subjects, push for good money.

You can also decide to combine farming with teaching. Cheers.

I have a leaning towards cropa that are free from modifications (non-GMO). Millet happens to be one but is tasteless and boring. Though good.

There are different varieties of Millets. Millets can be used to produce all kinds of snacks when mixed with other flours. Composite flour mixes. It is also very nutritious.

Why dont Nigerians farm and eat more Millet?

Apple is grown in Nigeria now. Read about the Wambugu Apple. Go to Plateau State and see things for yourself there. And wheat is cultivated in Nigeria, though in very small metric tonnes. Do I have to study Agriculture to be a farmer? The foreign looking apples you buy in cities here in Nigeria are now being cultivated even in the southwest. What are you spewing?

Mango: was brought to Nigeria from South East Asia either from Bangladesh or India.

Cassava: was brought to Nigeria from Brazil.

Sugercane: Was brought to Nigeria from Brazil and South America.

Guava: from Peru and Mexico.

Coconut: From Madagascar.

Maize: Brought by the Portuguese missionaries from Central America and North America. And so on and so forth.

Guinea Corn and Millet are native to Nigeria and Africa. Why are we skeptical about our native plants?

Have you tried it there and it did not work? I believe some species of Cocoa will thrive in the North . Plantain might be difficult to plant in the North, but hey, why don't we give it a trial? Like I said earlier, Millet and Sorghum grows in Southern Nigeria. They are cultivated in some parts of Oyo State ( Oke Ogun area ).

Did God create a crop to be specifically grown in an area, region or part of the world? Just like immigrants to a new land, crops can adapt to a new environment over time. Most of our crops in Nigeria came from other continents. Stay Blessed.

I think it is because most of us grew up not knowing what millet is, except when we use for feed production. I have personally no knowledge of how a millet plant looks like.

I intend to buy more farmlands soon, I might consider growing it alongside corn for feed making. And if my stomach loves it, I could try it.

A millet plant looks like the Corn\Maize plant. It is just that the fruit/kernels of the Millet crop are on the top of the plant when it is time for harvesting.

I carried out an experiment with Guinea Corn in Ikorodu, Lagos. On my plot of land, I planted two species of Guinea Corn ( Sorghum ). This was in 2022/2023. The guinea corn germinated and grew . I saw it with my Koro Koro eyes . Guinea Corn ( Sorghum ) and Millet are very hardy crops which can grow on poor soils. They are in the same family with Maize, Oats, Barley etc. It is just that the awareness about Millet and Sorghum ( Guinea Corn ) is very low in Southern Nigeria and the nation generally.

Anyone that is saying Millet cannot thrive in Southern Nigeria is deceiving you. It is the same reason we left the commercial cultivation of beans to the Northerners , because we believe we can't cultivate it in the South. Has God placed any limits on where plants can grow?

Millet will grow in southern Nigeria. I have seen it grow in a compound in Ikorodu. As long as can Maize grows in Southern Nigeria, Millet will grow in the south too. People should start experimenting with all kinds of crops grown in the North in the South. We can plant beans in the south too. Cheers.

I knew we would lose against the USA before the match was played. We need to start developing our sports programs and infrastructure to match the Americans and the Europeans. Female soccer should be promoted in all secondary schools and Universities. A female soccer Competition should be instituted in secondary schools all over the country. The USA is 2000 years ahead of Nigeria when it comes to sports development. Cheers.

And now that our country currency is depreciating, people from Niger republic are coming to park our maize and transport it to Niger republic. I know people that moving more than 10 truck weekly from my side.
The thing are so complicated, even we are push to this kind of business because you finished school, no work for the past 6-8 years.

It is still what it is. Evil business. No one is saying you should not make profit, but look at what happened to beans this year? Very expensive all due to storage and greed. Sell at affordable prices and still make some profit. How can a bag of maize be 100,000 naira as at July 2024? Maize that is a common cereal in Nigeria? You people can do better, please.

This is a lucrative business, but should people be doing this? This business creates artificial scarcity that drives up prices of things for everybody. Later they will say food is scarce when in fact it is not. Instead it is other people that buy everything, not to consume or use it to produce other things, but to store them and sell later just to make profit.

I'd like to do this but it just seems like a disservice to the society.

It is a evil business . Not something I want to go into. It is this storage business that causes the high prices of foodstuff at a certain period of the year. If it is done on a small level, it is not bad. However, if done on a massive scale ( as it is currently being done ) , it is pure evil.
