Some self help tips:

1. We need to get a Nigerian basketball legend with an amazing career to spend some time with DTigress in camp. I am thinking of Hakeem Olajuwon . Olajuwon is always ready to help out. We need him to talk to the 12 selected players and tell them out to turn things around and win a championship . Olajuwon has a winning mentality. His pep talks and advice will help our ladies at the Olympics. The NBBF should take note.

2. Ezinne Kalu should be the captain of the Squad. She is a fighter and very dogged on the court. She is a natural leader.

3. Coach Rena and the NBBF should also reach out to Coach Otis Hughley for advice as training camp progresses. The advice and tips can come virtually e g phone , WhatsApp.

4. The Nigerian community in France and neighbouring European nations should be encouraged to come out and support Dtigress at the Olympics. Cheers.

I think our best opportunity to make a case for herself was at the 2022 world cup which we unfortunately didn't make.

Scouting and talent isn't enough, teams need time to gel and build synergy. The core of that team had been together for about 2 years and were beginning to get the hang of it. The qualifiers were proof of this.

I don't expect much from the girls at these Olympics. The synergy just isn't there. The team at Afrobasket and the qualifiers is literally a new team and it's likely that at least a quarter of those who will make the Olympic roster will be new, so we are more or less starting from scratch again. In comparison, the french team barred players from participating in the WNBA so they can prepare adequately for the Olympics. The USA team has had at least 3 training camps the last 1 year. Other teams have similar preparations.

I however agree that we need a building plan. Go for college players and young professionals.

Actually, I believe we have a good crop of players on the camping list. Some of them have played together at last year's Afrobasket and the Olympic qualifiers. It is the coaching I am not too cool with. Can Coach Rena take these ladies to the medal stand? The Olympics is a serious basketball competition. Does Coach Rena have what it takes to coach at Olympics level? I keep saying it that we need a Coach that can surpass Coach Otis Hughley . Hughley remains our benchmark for basketball success when it comes to coaching. Under Hughley , we started giving the USA a tough time on the court. We beat France under Otis Hughley. The NBBF should have searched for a very good Coach who has a bold blueprint for the future of the Dtigress after the last Afrobasket.

Getting players is not our problem. Nigeria has many talented basketball players all over the world especially in the USA. I believe we should also be looking at College players and lower division basketball clubs in Europe to spot gifted players with a Nigerian heritage or origin.

Our problem is we don't know how to craft out victories at the Olympics and FIBA World Cup levels. Otis Hughley tried his best for Nigeria but we were not able to medal at Tokyo 2021 Olympics. We need to fight harder this time around. We just need the right mindset. Cheers.

Yes, She ( Akhator ) had a baby not too long ago. She talks more about motherhood via her Twitter Page these days. I did not know she has been playing professionally though.

Rita Igbokwe, Lucy Ibeh and Christeen Iwuala and Amusan are fresh faces to Dtigress camp. I don't know what will happen to the chances of Adebola Adeyeye and Blessing Ejiofor making the team to the Olympics now. I am also thinking Pallas Kunaiyi Akpanah will have to battle hard for a shirt in the squad. Except some of the fresh invitees do not make it to camp. Rita Igbokwe has already had a training camp with the New York Liberty ( A WNBA team ).

That Solape Amusan on the list is very good. I am happy Ezinne Kalu is back. With Sarah Ogoke not being able to make the list for the camping, I believe Ezinne Kalu will be the captain of Dtigress at the Olympics.

The more people go into farming in their homes, the more food prices will crash gradually. Look at it this way. You are helping to make food cheap in Nigeria by engaging in small scale farming. Let us show the Northerners that we can grow what we eat in the South. We are more educated than the Northerners. Overall, Nigeria has a huge and growing population. So, even if everyone becomes a farmer, the mouths to eat the food are available. OP, I love your post. Nairaland is back.

Generally this season is when tomatoes is costly (may June and a bit of July till the watery species come out) but seems this year's own is not just the normal tomatoes scarcity season, there's more to it because pepper Bawa Tatashe is also expensive.

Maybe the rains plus transport costs but then transport has been expensive since beginning of this year.

Southern middlemen are part of the problem. They will bring in tomatoes from the North and sell at expensive prices in the South. They have taught the hausa traders how to be greedy. Try and plant vegetables on free space in your house. Cheers.

Everyone wants to put on suit and tie even when their brain is not fit for western education. More than half of those in school really have no business being there. But since society has programmed us all to think you cannot make with without a paper called certificate, many now hope on education.

A girl who has acumen for business will abandon that to go study accounting in school so that she can graduate and start helping business people account for their money. This she does for a "take home pay" that can't take her home. After a while, she starts selling hair on Whatsapp status. If she had used the money spent on school fees and the four years spent on university education to focus 9n her hair business, she won't be relying on take home pay.

Go round and ask youths if they dream of becoming a farmer. Almost all them will say no; some might even curse you for wishing such on them. Yet we wonder why food is scarce. All these have to be considered to make things right. Sadly, some dumb people see this food scarcity as an opportunity to promote Peter Obi as saviour. How a people chose to package a fraud they know too well is baffling to me.

I truly blame Tinubu for being a gentleman. Man doesn't want to expose Buhari, that's why kids think Tinubu is the total cause of the hardship. They never knew that Buhari was patching things up with borrowed funds so that Nigerians won't say things got bad under him. If Tinubu wanted to be bad as well, he would have continued to patch things up and then dump it all on his successor. However, he chose to face reality, same reality many Nigerians don't want to accept. If Tinubu fails to steady the ship, he should know that a new captain will take over .

On this tomato scarcity, I heard it is caused by tomato Ebola. Ok, we agree. But how come pepper is also scarce? Does pepper suffer from the same disease? I think this is economic sabotage by the north. The region wants to do everything possible to frustrate the southern presidency. Food is 9ne of their weapons.

I'm glad Southwest governors have ordered the commissioners of agriculture of each state to meet and discuss how the region can grow its own food. I ask, why do most southern states have agriculture commissioners when the region can't grow its own food? Any state with such officers should sack them because they are blockheads. Look at the vast lands we have in our region. We also have rivers and the sea. Why is fish expensive? Can government investment in fishing and farming? I understand Lagos doesn't have enough land, but how about Ogun, Oyo, Kwara, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti? Even the Lagos that doesn't have land is investing in rice production in collaboration with a northern state.

Nigeria is dying and our leaders are not the only ones to blame.

Who told you Lagos State does not have land? Please do your research well. Cheers.

GBAM. Very true comment. The Fulani are not everywhere in the southwest. And they can be communicated with and told not to lead their cattle into lands that have been cultivated. Go and plant tomatoes in your compound. Find rabbit faeces or poultry dung and use them to make the soil in your compound richer. Then start planting. The rainy season is gaining momentum.

The greatest thing that has happened to Southern Nigeria is the current high cost of foodstuff and food price inflation. I am happy it is going on. This is a very good initiative. The aspect of this information that says Government will buy the crops that will be produced is very interesting. This is how Agriculture should be done. Apart from high cost of clearing, it is difficult to clearing such a land this time around. It is best cleared during the dry season.
Rain is fully commenced when it is difficult for the stumps to dry and burn. And stumping and packing are bite difficult this time around. That's my concern too.
