truly the canadian chic has a good sense of humour but her ability to speak good English and being able to BE HERSELF helped the situation, you see some Nigerians who has never travelled before or who feels inferior to a white man will always behave like Mr Benson grin grin grin, I believe Nigerians who want to come to the UK should be following this program on youtube its an eye opener for them
ABI - it really is educational - today i found out what these so called agents are used for - i was wondering why people pay them money for visa - now i know. i thank God everyday i don't have to go thru this - i'm not boasting as i know its just luck and no one chooses where they are born or brought up.

He might no be lying you see a lot of Nigerians pay several agents for visa, the result of this is that they don't even know what sort of documents these agents submit on their behalf, whenever they decide to come clean by submitting right documents that belong to them that's when they'll be found out by the embassy officials.

its just simply ignorance
THEN they are simply stupid - how can someone submit something for you and you don't go over it. if you need the help of agents then maybe it means u have no case to be in the embassy.

European:
In nigeria there is no war, famine, natural disaster, religious persecution, genocide etc.

you can not just arrive to europe and beg for asylum, you people are disgusting. we europeans have to deal with hundreds and hundreds of thousands of you people begging at our door.

Europe is not responsible for feeding and clothing and providing shelter for every african who washes up on our shores. you will NEVER be granted asylum, you are only wanting to ask for asylum so that you can enjoy our great society, and benefits.

you people are so desperate to live with whites it is unbelielavable.

go and beg for asylum in another african country.
GET OVER YOURSELF - just cos the DWP have cut ur benefits stop coming onto this site to vent ur frustration - get an education and a proper job. maybe if u hadn't left school at 16 and worked ur way up from stacking shelves at Tesco's to becoming the till supervisor u wouldn't be so bitter

Sincerely speaking, issue of security in nigeria is over dramatised as people still live and work in this great country without getting hurt, molested or attacked in anyway.
Let us also not forget that there is no one country in the world that is totally safe-common examples are the september 11 attack in the USA, the train bomb in the Uk etc.
So, my brother, there is no place like home. If your parents' way of punishing you is by sending you home-nigeria, then, make the best use of it.
i know this is an old post but really this is grasping at strings - so u are using rare events to equate to daily armed robbery, car jacking, rapes and kidnapping in nigeria - oh yes and the annual religious riots we have.

i'm laughing so hard i think i will have a 6 pack by tomorrow morning - my stomach muscles are working HARD!!

people die of cancer - its just that people blame juju and go to the pastor instead of a doctor. is that not the reason why in 2009 people still call a woman with facial hair a witch instead of reading a book and realising its due to a hormonal imbalance.

how many women in naija are offered the cervical cancer smear test. i know grown women in their 30s that have never had a smear in Nigeria - u explain to them and they tell u that Nigerian don't get cancer - i just dey laugh - any women in this world can get it.

no country in this world is heaven but please those people mouthing off that naija is great the developed world is s*** please get real.

infant and maternal mortality rates in Nigeria are shocking, instead of defending these things why don't we put our heads together and do something to better our country.

we are ranked among the lowest 20 countries - i'm sorry but that is disgusting. if we have enough money for politicians to be stashing millions and millions of dollars in banks around the world then to be in the league of countries that don't even have 1/20th of our wealth is shameful is a disgrace and not something we should be proud of.

people are talking of laptops, jeeps, borehole, gen, driver, 3 trips abroad chicken and chips - meanwhile the list i have provided below is what u should be concerning yourself with not whether ur friend is riding jeep. with the level of frustration and unemployment very soon kidnappers will start kidnapping pure water sellers for 20k. I mean how can u say a country is great when the government doesn't have a system in place to provide basic things a human being needs to live, healthcare, water, electricity, education system, refuse disposal, transportation network - yes we pay high tax but when i get home from work i relax in front of the TV and go to bed with peace of mind that armed robbers will not enter my house or kidnappers. i can turn the lights on and i will see light - i'm not shouting at someone to pump water or taking headache tablets from driving home from work and hearing car horns cos people don't know what an indicator light is - honestly when I'm in Nigeria and i see the way people drive i begin to wonder are these people human being - is there no sense of decorum in this world again. chei -

yes thank God i am a fake british citizen at least i know that if something should happen to me anywhere they will come and help me. even drug dealers get help (remember the case of that nigerian born british drug dealer who was pregnant) how many of ur brothers are on death row in china and lybia?

Maybe the laptop would help make it less hard  grin

But then again, the simple thing to do is to tell him that U dont have the money to get him a laptop . Works for me all the time. Matter of fact, they will quit bugging U after sometime.
of course i said i don't have money - have i bought myself a new netbook yet - i will enjoy my hard earned money - after that my siblings get pocket money from me - or shopping trips after that its for worthwhile charitable organisations - i would rather donate my time for the homeless or poor widows in naija then parasites.

how can someone see what i have and say they want the same - do u know how i got it. remember our fingers are not all the same length
TravelRe: Why Do People Back Home Think Money Grows On Trees Abroad? by redsky1: 9:08pm On Oct 15, 2009
hear this one

a friend of a friend obtained (i say obtained cos no one gave it to him) my number and flashed me 3 weeks ago. so after the pleasentaries he now said there is a favour he want me to do for him,

i should help him buy a laptop - he prefers sony, toshiba or HP but he will manage samsung if the others are too expensive (begger get choice in nigeria o) - i asked when will he send me the money to buy it - he laughed and said - i should please help him get it - things are hard for him. excuse me if things are that hard then maybe concentrate on making it less hard. its like pringles - once u start u can't stop.

this parasite is not related to me or my friend o, and i'm sure he used stlyle to just copy my number from my friends phone.

this is how i see it. if you cant afford to buy yourslef a laptop - u are not on that level. i can't afford a benz right now - so its not my level - i like to keep it real. one day i will drive a nice car until then i will rest with what i have.

lack of contentment with our people - meanwhile they will claim to be christians and spend hours in church and bible study!

Pple never seem to amaze, I've lived in UK for 13 years and if the opportunity arises, i'll take my bag and go to naija forever. NHS and education is not free like some of you think, it's our taxes and to the fellow who said you live your car unlocked. Good luck to you, i lived in London for a very long time and was never robbed, moved out and guess what we were robbed. It doesn't matter where you live, if it's going to happen it will.

I didn't know pple were moving over here because of chicken and chips, bad roads and NEPA. Fair enough NEPA but none of the other reasons make any sense. I'm out and I agree with the poster. A lot of pple think living in Uk is the be all and end all.  I'm sorry it isn't. pls don't let's fool ourselves it isn't. A black PMhuh? Never maybe in the next generation and most blacks are rated as second class citizens anyway. If you feel different, speak out but only want opinions from anyone working pls.

If Nigeria had good leaders maybe we wouldn't all need to come over her. My two pence.
what about the generation of children who have lived here all their life - don't u think they will find it hard in nigeria - i remember when my little sister was 4 and visited nigeria - bless her the first night NEPA took light she screamed and was crying all night - for one week she refused to be alone anywhere. what we had to do was put the gen on b4 it turned dark to ensure it didn't hapen again - some of u will say that is naija but come on there are children that don't know what a power blackout is why must they be exposed to such - the uk is not heaven but please remember the generation of nigerians with dual nationality who find it a bit hard to understand the lack of infastructure

no one said NHS and education is free - we pay tax. if they system was good in nigeria we would have something like that as well. is it right that people die of things they shouldn't.
CultureRe: Why Are we Nigerians So Materialistic? by redsky1: 8:41pm On Oct 15, 2009
naijacutee:
This is the question someone asked me today, and after trying to think of a clever response/excuse, I found out that I had none. It got me thinking, and I started to think of all the guys I know who talk about "swag" from morning till night, friends I know who will not wear anything and be tagged twice in it on Facebook, family members who I compliment saying "Your top looks good on you", and the response is "Very expensive. N4,000 at The Palms". People who will buy anything - Blackberry, Holiday to Dubai, TM Lewin shirt, Lace weave, MAC make-up - solely to fit in with everyone else, and not because they really need these things; people who will talk disrespectfully to a person the minute they perceive that this person cannot afford certain things, girls who will lose their virginity to someone who only has to pretend to be wealthy and bribe them with recharge cards, people who will do anything to get rich - even to the point of lying and twisting Biblical references to back their lies.

Is this an unrecognised culture amongst us? Why are money and material wealth so important to us? Almost to the point where we are ready to worship money even in church! Can we be content with a life which involves living in a decent, comfortable and clean house in a quiet village somewhere, with good food, clean water and a steady stream of income - or would that be classified as "suffering"?
personally for me i use mac make up cos its the best for my skin, i like blackberry cos i'm a professional and it helps me organise my life. lace weave - um not for me - i have good hair (don jealous me o!!)

lol na really what i think it is is a lack of confidence - if a person thinks that the only way people will give them and "respect" cos of the brands dripping from their body maybe they are lacking in the personality bank.

you are one of those who r living good in naija and believes others r living same as u. in case u dont kno d rich is getting richer and poor getting poorer in naija. and for your info my name is Igbogirl not Nigeriangirl. I'll claim Igbo b4 i will ever claim Nigeria cos there's nothing to be proud of abt nigeria. and yes u read me right, washing dishes in America can open so many doors for u, u can save up money, go to sch, or even get promoted and no one will ever look down on u. but do same in naija and see if ppl wont laugh at u. believe it or not America has more opportunity than Nigeria and stop being in denial cos u happen to hav a good job. hav u wondered how ppl in naija without your job or money r living? they r obviously not living as good as u, they r suffering and the govt isnt doing anything abt it, in fact the govt doesnt care. i am in America to stay, i can never be kicked out cos i wasnt here illegally. so your prayer will not come to pass.
admit it Nigeria is a big shame! at 49 still hav nothing to show for it. we hav our own natural resources yet we dont see the use of the money, till today electricity is not reliable, health care is a joke, ppl die frequently from diseases they shdnt die from why? cos there's no good medical care, no medical equipments, no nothing. what exactly are u proud of abt Nigeria? a country and leaders that dont care abt their citizens.
I FEEL U MY SISTER, DON'T MIND THESE BAD BELLE PEOPLE - AFTER ALL WHY DO THEY STILL TRAVEL ABROAD WHEN THEY HAVE BREAK.

when u want to buy ticket u will count out over N150k to travel agent - meanwhile i can sit on my toilet seat here and book a flight to the other side of the world - i know people will shout at me but i do love not having to queue up at immigration when i land - show and go.

sorry bad belle people i have wanted to say that for a while (yeah i know its immature)

i did not in any way say or imply that ppl abroad are better than those in Naija and i did not read that from Igbogirl either. What iam saying is that, we here work too hard to play around with money. As you rightly pointed out, we live in a debt economy. Try going to your mortgage Co and begging them to let you live in your house without payment and see what will happen to you. In Naija, you can beg oga landlord and he will let u stay for a while.
If you do not make your car note, the thing is repossed before you know it.
Iam a compassionate person and i help those that really need help. I 'll rather teach one how to fish than give the person always.
Please do not misunderstand us.
people in naija have started taking loan for car and house o, debt don't reach lekki peninsula

Miss EZ:
@ Brauneyes and Igbogirl

i must say that your posts are really interesting. Even though i agree that pple asking you for money can be annoying, i disagree with the notion that i will rather be a cab driver of janitor here than be in naija. All i will say iss that life here and in naija is totally different. The education system is messed up, i agree with u on that again

But like i said earlier, its about choosing your battles and location. Its easy for u to think your better than those back home because u were fortunate to either be born here or had the means or opportunity to come here. Instead of being proud abt that, be humble and thankful for the opportunity because na God de bless man. that could have easily been u in naija and someone else here saying what your saying. ITs God that has given u this opportunity, those of us here in yankee didnt please God in anyway thats different than others that he made it possible for us to be here.

Another thing i'll say is this, even though life is yankee is more comfortable than it is in naija, it is still a life of DEBT. can u honestly tell me that u dont owe on your car, house, credit card, student loan or somethn else? meanwhile those of our mates back home that have good jobs and are living comfortably own what they have. their cars, furniture, tuition was paid for, so they dont owe on that. I look forward to going back home cos i wont live my life here paying one form of debt or the other. Its all abt the individual choices we make.

No one is better than the other, we live in different circumstances, but each comes with its advantages and disadvantages. this is nothing personal against the two of u and feel free to agree or disagree. this is just my opinion
point of correction - do people our age really own their own homes or rent.

lets me real now its not that easy to build mansion like that o!

IgboGirl:
let me cut u off on that building houses bak home. a house that shd take few yrs to build takes forever to finish why? cos our relatives share the money into halves, use one half for the house and the other half for their own agenda. i know bunch of ppl here in America whose relatives hav ripped off all in the name of helping to build their houses. mehn dang u folks bak home are wicked. why not use the money to build the house for us first b4 using it for your own gain? and the annoying part is that they request to move into the house once it's finally finished and even request to drive your car u shipped home to use when u visit wit your family. they drive this car, ruin it and still expect u to send money to fix it
SO TRUE - i remember our gen in the village, thats another story.

Have read many people post here and I must say that few of Nigerians in abroad makes majority of Nigerians look bad. Working from 7 am to 7 mp is not the issue. If Nigeria have that kind of job back home, I am sure people will do it. Is just that no matter how much you have, its not good to go back to Nigeria to show off for others to Know there is more in abroad. yes, there is money in abroad but not to rub it on people face with car or house and throwing money round. That is just senseless.
are you for real, i know plenty of people that refuse to work cos they have a rich relative to rely on when the going gets tough.

how many students would do the type of jobs students do here to make ends meet - abeg many nigerian girls would rather lie on their back and be big grils than work 7-7 so please lets get real.

i never deny tat i am Nigerian - i am just fed up of people who belittle those of us abroad as if ur better or something - no body is better people just have different life experiences - is it my fault my family lives here and i grew up here?

is it my fault that things are messed up in Nigeria? naija is messed up - admit it move on and then put minds together to see how things can be improved - u think i'm happy my country that has more natural raw wealth than many developed countries is seen as a third world country.

i will be the first person to defend Nigeria outside this forum when it is being insulted - to the extent one white guy in my office wished he could move to naija self - (ok i did make naija look A BIT TOO NICE), trust me if naija was that bad there is no way in this world i would even be dreaming of coming back - but what am i doing now - packing up my stuff to send home in the next few weeks. my kids will also spend some of their secondary education in Nigeria (so i better work hard cos its Private school all the way)

we don't have facilities in Nigeria but trust me the standard of education in good schools in Nigeria are much better that the average state school here - like i have said - i have been fortunate to have seen both.

if people dropped their bad belle then we could all work together and see what can been done. if we believe we can truly achieve

can some one answer this for me - if nigeria is really the greatest - why do people still fly here for treatment (or anywhere else for that matter) i'm sure if Obama was ill he wouldn't be flying to nigeria or suadi (like our own president)

why do some men send their wives abroad to give birth even thou it might not get the child citizenship.

i'm just asking cos i'm confused and i think u'all can clear it up for me
