Hello house in a case where an amendment is to be done in a bungalow. I am insisting on moving the visitors toilet entrance to be inside the sitting room rather than in the varrender. So we need to both extend the v.t and put a wall to close out the varrender.

Would it be necessary to put a beam before setting the blocks or would the weight sit well on the German floor when casted?

And would an extra beam be needed on the lintel level too or we can just raise the blocks to leveling level?

Technically you're not doing a German Floor on this project....

So, it won't seat well... Dig the foundation and start the block from a few courses inside the ground

Raise the block all the way, it's not carrying any load except self.

This is exactly what i did, i moved the toilet from the veranda to the living room. Initially, my siblings kicked against it but happy after the work was done.

The builder blocked the entrance to the toilet at the veranda and created a new entrance from the living room. It is beautiful. Those who kicked against it suddenly fell in love with it when the toilet was moved to the living room.

Yes I would have done that here too but the position of the v.t is in the room. So we can't put an entrance in the palor except we extend the v.t by 3ft to accommodate an internal door.
You ll eventually love it…

Bross leave the toilet outside,. I don't think I will be comfortable sitting outside a toilet door facing me directly knowing full well someone is taking a shyte there. I have not seen anywhere in the western world where you can enter and exit a toilet direct from a living room but yet Nigerians seem to have perfect this scene!

Pls house, how many block would I use for the foundation of 2 bedroom flat, 2 self contain and 1 bedsitter all for 5 coach, I will be using 6 inch blocks.

The answer to this is site and the type of fill materials being used specific!

It’ll take longer time for a foundation in a sloping site to compact than it’ll take for a foundation on a table land.

Well, I didn't rule out the importance of using good sharp sand compacting well especially in raft foundation...but then it's expected for ground floor slab to stand well even if filling collapse in the future hence necessity for well reinforced ground slab just like suspended slab


I once raised alarm sometimes last year a builder here.( Which is even chatting on this page now ) did a foundation even very close to where we are working now with just wire mesh

I’ve had to investigate a foundation in Lekki area before and it was shocking to see that the soil used to fill the foundation has subside under the slab in less than 2 years after the project. I remember I share the video here on this topic .

Reason: Poor Compaction

We too dey rush our builds in these days of Buy and Build in one month. We hardly give time for natural compaction.

Some building projects were abandoned till today bcs of site investigations, all was just on paper then boom work start on site …so site investigation” is paramount in anything construction.

We are here battling with our excavation..
N3xt don’t ask me if I have another Levelling instrument oo. It s good to have tools and instruments.
