Politics › Re: ‘Bandits Threatening Us’, Reps Member Asks Tinubu To Review Withdrawal Of Police by Reference(m): 6:09am On Nov 27, 2025
Funny country.
I like the sport of football a lot or what the Yanks call soccer.

This tussle between the public and publicans...(yes, that is all what the leaders have made themselves) over who gets protection is similar to the turmoil in the mind of a gaffer trying to stop Arsenal from scoring off a set piece.

You don't know whether to adopt man to man marking (allocate police to every individual,) or zonal marking (allocate police to watch over a specific area)....

Now the brilliant Arne Slot says he needs two or three or four defenders to guard Gabriel Magalhaes alone. But Van Dyke is saying that is tantamount to a goal because only five or six players are left to track nine other opponents in the box.

These are the structural conversations the owners of democracy, the people, the fans should be having. Every where in the world politicians act same. Selfish, inconsiderate and condescending.

The difference is that they are pitted against a citizenry that understand their rights and are prepared to exercise their power to get their rights IRRESPECTIVE of who is in government, and are prepared to stand for what is right without sentiment even if they voted for such a government in the first place.

We should not always wait for tragedies to reset our consciences and alert out intelligence.

Thank you.

Best decision I have heard in the 5th Republic.
Next will be the last but not least (as a matter of fact the most important) federating unit, local government police services.

Then we can truly isolate insecurity and properly hold administrators at these levels completely liable for a activities within their jurisdictions.

Then let me see how they will sponsor bandits against the people who elected them or export them to other territories.

Enough is enough.

Now tell me how is Nigeria faring in the kind of open, plural, multiparty politics that is the only antidote to the sting of military governments in Africa.

The only way to keep the military out of governance is by good governance that lifts the people and where you cannot manage that, allow the democratic process do it's thing.

But you will not perform and yet you will not allow others to.

'We have received a call that ...'

So people have the will to and means of communication to observe and locate and report security threats.

In my opinion the missing link is the lack of 'communication' with authorities, with the institutions appointed by law to handle security and the proximity of help.

This lacuna is a STRUCTURAL deficiency. The lack of grassroots policing.

Security is a service, a social service. It should be available precisely where it is needed.

If I know the name of my local barber. If I know the name of my local laundry man. If I know the name of my mechanic, If I know the name of my gate man, why on earth can't I know the name of my local police man and have him on speed dial when I see or hear A WHOLE COMPANY of bandits moving through my area.....or approaching my child's school.....or buying supplies at the local market.

The truth is that without grassroots, people oriented policing (not vigilante, but officials OF THE LAW) under the service of the people within that jurisdiction, the security standards we are familiar with abroad cannot be achieved.

You simply CANNOT have a FEDERAL police everywhere and in the densities to effectively stop the more organized and nimble bandits operating at this point in time.

All you have now are futile orders of deployment to hot spots AFTER THE FACT, when the damage is done. The only way to guarantee proactive, preventive policing is to establish it on ground and transfer accountability to the people.

PS: And when you hear, 'oh orders came from somewhere and ten minutes after they left the bandits struck..…'

Well, when you don't 'own' the police and when the police is not 'at your service' this is exactly what will happen.
Politics › Re: Ogun Hosts Southern Governors Forum Meeting Today by Reference(m): 1:25pm On Nov 26, 2025
A better and more productive forum will involve those directly affected by insecurity including potential victims at the grassroots and service providers that will tackle the prevention or the fallout not just groupings if leaders most of whom are not in touch with the realities on ground.

I cannot see how this top to down approach will be effective in the learning and application process of policies, programmes and strategies.

But I can understand that the feudal nature of our society is geared towards an parties between the leaders and the led.

Even the process of budgets, economics, investments, etc will never consider the man on the street. It is made by and for those in office. A spoon feeding of the nation.

Then tomorrow they will come out with their tired cliches when under pressure that, security is everyone's business.

A bit worried here.
Obviously the economy is in a bad place right now.
These amounts are just too small to drag this country out of poverty.

In practical terms this budget amount is equivalent to the value of ten thousand duplexes or ten thousand brand new cars.

When you look at servicing a population of three or four million people just how do you divide this thing effectively.

Mark you, these figures will hardly be realised, both income and expenditure and a good chunk will be lost to waste and graft.

Honestly there is no substitute for AWE (A Well run Economy). Get inflation down, get productivity up and see these figures triple, quadruple over the medium term.

Na, na, na,na....this cannot educate , secure, shelter, treat, transport and administer 4 million people in a year effectively.

And this is reflected in all states including the Federal government. There is real poverty in Nigeria.

Same template, gather people, stand on a podium, sing, dance, scatter a few crumbs and make wild promises. This is where it starts and ends.

Ask the people who gathered 24 hours later exactly what they have accomplished.....nothing.

No clear path way to solve their festering issues, no concrete plans, programmes or calendars.....because they never asked for anything, there was no real engagement. All it was was a musical tour. A one way street.

What has the ADC taken to this people as solid proposals to make their lives better than where they are right now. Issues that can be dated, stamped, sealed and delivered. Real issues.

All the things you said are the products of deep seated ignorance. So deep seated that a citizen can get so emotionally attached to a politician or political leader that performance is no longer required.

Things that they cannot even accept from their servants, their friends and even family members. For instance people end relationships due to a serial liar of a friend or partner but readily find excuses for politicians they barely know.

If Nigerians would train up in the ropes of democracy and place performance above every other sentiment issues like decamping will die naturally because political parties will be wary of the demarketing failed leaders will bring.

And conversely parties will be unwilling to lose capable, competent and this popular politicians.

Ultimately the economic malaise we face and the security tragedy is all caused by the ignorance of the people concerning the true workings of the democracy they own.

He was in his right to criticize the government at that time in principle. And that government rightly lost the elections on performance.

However all progress made since then has been lost. Nigerians have stopped holding their leaders to account and stopped voting out bad governments. That is what has led us to this point.

Democracy is about consistency, popularly known as eternal vigilance. When governments begin to slide you send out warning shots by voting against ruling party candidates in mid term elections so they sit up and take notice that the people are unhappy.

But in our case almost every single election the ruling party contested since 2015 it has won including those claimed from opposition parties. So here nothing like protest voting and this has emboldened the ruling party to continue it's trajectory.

We are all complicit in this declining quality of governance. No where in the world where democracy develops nations are governments not constantly put on their toes, even the performing ones.

The truth is that Nigerians must school themselves in the true workings of a democracy as it affects governance or we will never be able to solve our issues.

In our leadership selection process we should begin to interrogate those that put themselves forward on the details of exactly how they will solve key issues bedeviling the country and select leaders purely based on the best ideas put forward.

With the way AI is rampaging through the land perhaps they have seen that these jobs may become extinct in the not too distant future.

Architecture is 99 percent inspiration, art and imagination so is highly subjective. Almost every other thing involved can be done by AI.

It is one profession that will be hit hard.
In the future clients may just input data preferences in the one hand and regulatory and environmental parameters on the other and viola, government pre approved concepts and designs will be created at record speed.

It was the black man who caught his fellow black people and sold them as slaves first to the arabs and then the Europeans. Even till today nothing has changed. The black man is his own worst enemy
I am so glad that more and more people are beginning this journey of introspection. A deep dive into our thought process as blacks, as Africans.

The most divided, the most unstable, the most self serving and utterly short sighted race on earth.

And the worst part of it is our disdain for self criticism the foundation for any sort of societal correction.

Just look at this country. Independent since 1960. 65 years after we have not reached nationhood. Today tens of thousands are dying every year because we have no corporate identity. That is 65 years after fighting and driving away the so-called 'white man'.

Then people will turn around and blame the colonists. Meanwhile there is virtually no country on earth today with purely indigenous populations. You can count on the palm of one hand the number of countries that have not been invaded and occupied or colonised by one foreign power or the other since antiquity.

So who is or where is the government reform equivalent of the Mr. Oyedele.

From what you say. One will expect that the government will make the plugging of revenue leaks and the effective and efficient use of resources viz a smaller and more nimble bureaucracy an equal priority. And will be sought with as much gusto as the inflows.

But we all know they are all rubbing their hands in glee. Awaiting the windfall come 2026 so they can achieve their personal aims and objectives and properly feed their white elephants.

The UK budget is out tomorrow or Thursday if I am not mistaken and tax rises are speculated. It is the most important talk in the UK right now. Everyone in the Labour government is questioned on this matter because these things can make or break a government.

Here the only one speaking about such an important matter is a certain task force head. Not even the Minister of Finance has uttered a word on the biggest tax reforms in the history of this country and as for the President who should be the lead salesman, he is not even in the picture.

Just shows how out of touch the head, the government and the people are with the way Nigeria is governed and just shows how we have sleep walked into the abyss.

A country that has not been able to solve a single fundamental malaise affecting it in 26 years.... 26 years of 5th republic so called democracy.

That is almost a complete generation of citizens who have not seen a set of leaders succeed the previous and made their lives or their country remotely any better.

Today it is virtually unimaginable for Nigeria to host the gathering of world leaders in any shape, form or capacity without exposing ourselves to even more ridicule and opprobrium.

But in these parts it also means papering over the cracks. The selfish, uncaring attitude of Nigerians towards their fellow citizens where folks just move on without recourse.

Years ago you will have thought the incident in Ondo will have taught us something and will preempt a reoccurrence. But here we are again. Meaning it will not be the last and we should all brace for the next one.
