Reference:I really do not like talking about this Fubara matter because the premise of the whole thing rests on the malaise of godfatherism and the crime of election rigging however most people on both sides of the argument would have expected Fubara to have put up a fight of emancipation and have gone down (if inevitable) via impeachment to salvage whatever honour was left. So to try and paint the illegal scenario of truncating the democratic process (which has enough self cleaning capabilities) in any other light is just retarded. Fubara knows he will get it rough because he was not popularly elected. The lessons of his travails were necessary to discourage the unholy act going forward in the polity. The Presidency or whoever was behind the illegality of removing him is not on the side of democracy and certainly not on the side of what it right for the people. |
kedeojo:And if Fubara was impeached for the right reasons what is wrong with that. What is the meaning of an illegal, unconstitutional act done to prevent a constitutional act. What kind of reasoning is this. Nigerians should just learn to do what is right for once in their lifetimes. The man you alluded to has not come across as one desperate for power so let the people decide whether he stays or goes. He did not ask to be removed to save himself from being removed. |
Ezehillary:Because the blackman is feudal in nature. Offices to him are throne rooms. He sees no responsibility above but only subjects below so he is filled with pride and arrogance. This is not restricted to political office but every position of leadership the black man is privileged to occupy. Be it in the home, in social gatherings, as entrepreneurs and in business, everywhere. We have this chip on the shoulder that resists the formation of the kind of independent thought that questions our authority. But which is critical in establishing viable, sustainable entities. This is typically why for example we don't have business names that are trans generational or political office holders of great legacies. |
The key to a successful tax regime is accountability and prudence. This is the first thing taxpayers the world over demand. It is a simple logic. You pay upfront for goods or services. You want to see them delivered at full value. This is not rocket science. Now superimpose this scenario on Nigeria plc today and understand why the people see taxation as an issue to be resisted. They ask for transparency (that is to see the content of the receipts) you reject it, they ask for inclusiveness in decision making (ask for a menu) you resist it, then you bring the bill for some substandard grub and expect them to gleefully pay for it. For things you did not order at a cost you had no idea. Who does that. Classic example. Just one of many, many more. Is there any single citizen of Nigeria today, any average taxpayer that ordered for the coastal road. Let anyone, party member or peon show me where he ordered for that project that is costing the country an arm and a leg. For which he will pay through his nose via taxation. Democracy works well where people pay for the things they order, they demand for when installing governments and even with that they want the highest degree of transparency in cooking those meals. Democracy is a restaurant, not a kindergarten |
Bimow:I see. So why did this government charge the previous ones with failure on that front and why did they promise to end insecurity if as you allege and I quote, 'nothing else Asiwaju and the military can do about... it' Mister, this means one of two things. The government is either insincere or incompetent. There are no excuses. It is a political crime to obtain office under false pretense and I just hope your fellow supporters and indeed this government does not toe this line if not it has no reason whatsoever to be re elected. Democracy means you get there based on what you intend to do having persuaded the people you can do it. And just like any other job description if you cannot perform you simply cannot continue. |
Just see the Ronaldo cracker of a goal...when you live in the wrong country.... |
The rest of the continent has left Nigerian soccer behind.... unfortunately. |
If this country could be restructured and made into a nation of viable, independent federating units then it can be governed well and we can be spared all.the drama. But it appears that Nigeria is engineered to remain desolate and destitute and perhaps cannot get into a position where the people are prosperous and safe enough to end the cycle of misery. People like this man should rather advocate for the kind of good governance that will end destitution resulting from poverty and insecurity rather than further complicate a nation situation struggling with a crisis of solidarity. |
Stay away from wildlife. They won't. For the African everything is food. |
Sheuns:The people of this country should wake up and press for new, revolutionary leadership that will take this country to real greatness by restoring the values of work, the ethic of creating, doing things, of true independence. Enough of this attitude of throwing money at every need. The value of this country lies in the quality of the people and we cannot move forward if we cannot get things done. The Enugu government has no business giving out its scarce resources to one individual hundreds of miles away to deliver what it deems critical infrastructure. Who does that. It is like a poor, hungry man who has just been paid for a hassle and he now sits back and orders a pizza from a franchise across town. Now begins to lament when dispatch cannot locate him because he lives in a undesignated slum. What kind of distorted life are we living in this country abeg. I was on the highway a few days ago and the state of the roads are just terrible, absolutely in shambles. And we are giving.out contracts wily nily worth trillions.... |
fergie001:Nigeria. A contractor's paradise. Where a lazy government does nothing but abdicates it's responsibilities to merchants of corruption, rent seeking and round tripping. The question I would ask looking at this comedy at face value is, how did the Enugu state government discover this man and his company. Where did they meet. How come?. Answer this question and discover one of the societal problems afflicting this country. Then ask this. The government has all the money. The man is bringing not a penny to build the schools. You have capacity to supervise to see that he did not do a good job. So what in the freaking world is stoping you from building those schools YOURSELF. I don't just get it. There must be hundreds and thousands of youths, able bodied men and women that can deliver those projects by direct supervision at a fraction of that cost. There is absolutely no reason for a poor country to get involved in the waste called contracting as a government policy. No reason whatsoever. Let government operatives get off their lazy butts and go deliver those things. Mobilize the youths in those areas to go build those schools, roads, hospitals, water works, rail lines and industrial parks and create a society of value through jobs and productivity. And most of all so that the economic benefits are domiciled in the catchment area where the funds are generated. China did not start its industrial journey by delegating responsibility and contracting out it's development. But the foundation of every great industrial nation has been the people. The ability of government to mobilize mass numbers to lay the foundations of industry is the key to development. And only when everyone had been engaged does the application of the leverage of contracting as a force multiplier kicks in. That is why you observe one characteristic of great industrial, developed nations. Their work ethic. It is a lazy, wasteful venture for governments at all levels to throw their resources away via this national malaise called contracting. |
grandstar:Income is never the problem. It is always expenditure. Just as a common man will waste money he had not earned, so any government will waste the resoures it can command and extort without resistance. Watch out. There will be more billion naira scandals, white elephant projects and giveaways to contractor friends and family. You can already see the stories around the first lady's financial adventures clearly indicating a government that has lost its way in a sea of naira. |
ogododo:Once this government is re elected in 2027 the taxmen will be fully unleashed to scour the country for every dime for parting gifts and political pensions. It will be revenue drive galore. |
Feudal nation where the President is king and governors are princes. No questions asked by the peons. |
blackmantis:Exactly. I can understand what most are saying here but this is a subset of the issue This is a case of a private individual carrying items in a personal vehicle. I don't understand how it is government's business (because these touts or council agents or whatever act as if enforcing some law) how I carry my property if I am not violating vehicular safety laws. You see them at road junctions and intersections peeping into cars to see if you have anything they consider of commercial value, why?. Where in the sane world can I not buy a refrigerator and take it home in my truck or a tv in my backseat. Why should I pay anyone for that or get a so called commercial transport license for that. This is the nonsense happening in Abuja today. If it cannot fit in your closed boot you are done for. And if it is heavy to weigh your car down they will still stop you. |
Krak:There is absolutely nothing to say. These so called AMAC boys are stationed at every junction and intersection to ensure every citizen pays for transporting goods, period. They started out many years ago checking to ensure commercially registered vehicles were duly licensed by them including things like mobile adverts, etc Today they have extended their mandates to profile certain models of vehicles which they deem commercial and have even made it a law that private vehicles cannot transport articles of any kind. So if I go to borrow my friends lawnmower on the other side of town to groom my garden I am breaking some financial law by transporting it in my car or truck. That is what local government administration in the Federal Capital has been reduced to. The very face of grassroots governance. |
Eriokanmi:I don't think that man ever chased wealth or fame. When you look at his life's work you can see an individual driven to breaking new grounds. He is a maverick. Always seeking to prove something. Fiercely anti-establishment. Everything he has done has been pioneering and highly risky, the very things that can destroy wealth and fame, the very Howard Hughes of this era. |
YorubaLord:Because THEY are confused by your government. One minute your government is buying weapons and fighting insurgents, the next minute they are signing peace accords and discussing two state solutions over tea. The rest of the world must be confused, even bemused at how power sharing with bandits and insurgents has become state policy when the constitution is clear about who governs. This is exactly what Trump is trying to avoid. Treat the narco problem with kid gloves and one day the governor of Arizona will be selected by the Sinaloa cartel or perhaps Maduro will decide who the Mayor of Chicago will be. |
cyprex:They were in international waters headed for the continental US as reported. The idea of using military force against drug cartels is coming up front and centre because it appears every other tool has proved ineffective. You can see what the cartels have turned Mexico to, a black state within a state, you saw what the Medellin cartel turned Colombia to before military force brought an end to Pablo Escobar's reign. These cartels obviously are well funded and with those resources have developed well equiped military capabilities in addition to corroding law enforcement and the judiciary through bribes. So these affected countries have found themselves completely out maneuvered. I don't think America will wait another 50 years to be overwhelmed by cartels and lose its institutions to narco corruption before it has decided to act. |
DeepSight:Don't mind them. Primitive mindset. A Lagosian is anyone who resides in the state just like no one fiefdom can lay claim cultural ownership of New York or Washington or London or Paris anymore for that matter. Demographics change and with it the face of any cosmopolitan city particularly if it became the capital of sorts. You gain Federal might you gain Federal identity just like Abuja has lost its Gwari only identity forever. I don't know whatever is no man's land. The only one I know was the famous dead space between the allies and axis powers in the Battle of the Somme in world war 1. What I know is that Lagos is a cosmopolitan, multi racial, multi cultural city. |
Glimpsetv:No long Grammer here. It is called state failure. A people that simply cannot govern themselves. |
Nigerians should be worriyes that a monopoly of the mobile network business is looming. It is the reponsibility of the NCC to protect the market. Other networks will not be failing if oversight worked. |
Guestmale:The contradictions of this government are inexhaustible. Political, the economy, security and all the pressing issues of the day. The government is doing the exact thing it either resisted, campaigned against or opposed in other regimes. Till date no one has been able to explain with any degree of satisfaction how a candidate, a party, now in government went from resisting subsidy removal to flying it as a kite of achievement in just ten short years. And the government is still taken as one of respect and integrity. How does that add up. Just lucky that the citizens of this country are not really cerebral, if not.... |
Angelfrost:I just don't understand. You fought tooth and nail won the heavyweight championship of the world, unified the titles. Now they say you have enjoyed the crown a bit, time to defend against other contenders and you are calling them desperate usurpers, you do everything to ensure they cannot face you, you even seek to bar the various federations from presenting opposition.... And you expect sponsors not to walk away . What is the value of a crown without the stiffest contest. If you are that good, you will welcome a contest with open hands to prove it. |
What I find amazing about all these talk on radio, tele and various other media where you hear the government and it's supporters berating other parties and candidates as desperate, power hungry, etc is that, how did you folks get there if not for the same desperation, greedn and power thirst. You folks were not in your houses taking a nap when Nigerians dragged you kicking and screaming into office. So how did you get there. You say others are serial contenders but the first ruling party president contested several times before securing the seat. You say others are serial decampees and coalition peddlers but the ruling party is a product of a coalition and certai ly was not is existence in 1999 so people obviously defected to it. This country is just a tale of contradictions where accusers are just as guilty as the villains they charge. |
hahahahaha....and what was his wife to be doing....VAR duty? He will be like, 'if my father is in this, then who am I'....hahahahaha... |
If a government is that popular, why the pan Nigeria effort to ensure the elections are uncontested. Just doesn't add up. People say it is the turn of this and that yet I have not witnessed any elections since 1999 that had candidates from any one section of this country exclusively. |
Wike is not only the owner and spokesman of the PDP but he is now appointed the defacto technical adviser and attorney of all and every potential presidential candidate of the PDP. Funny country. |
yemmit90:Was it not in this country a citizen stopped an airline from taxing and has been made a representative of the industry, no questions asked, not even a slap on the wrist. Where else in this blue coloured world does this happen. Please stop the sanctimonious postulation. Law and order in Nigeria is a joke. What do you think has taken us to where we are today. Just pray you do not become a victim. |
kpankpangolo:From the hospital picture I can see sepsis cannot be ruled out. It is entirely possible that the operation took a while before being carried out as the practice in Nigerian hospitals due to administrative and financial issues. Emergency medicine in Nigeria is a disaster. Nothing about how we manage healthcare in this country is cerebral. |
CodeTemplarr:You just said it as it is. We are in a regime of government exploitation. Normally the people should cry to the Legislature for relief as arbiters but unfortunately we have foolishly accepted and supported both institutions working in cahoots so tomorrow the charges for other government services can be skyrocketed to whatever level their greed permits and we will have to swallow the bitter pill. Elections do have consequences. |
