ekhai:Just listened to Arteta post match and indeed from his words one can see that he just did not believe he could win at Anfield. In this league this simply means Liverpool will have to drop points elsewhere for his team to stand a chance. |
OriOko88:Eze is not a winger in my honest opinion for one simple reason, he does not have pace and hardly crosses the ball. Rather he is a classic 10 and played that very well at Palace. He is the only player in that squad that can unlock Gyokeres just as his many assists.for Mateta. |
IHate9jerianss:He played in front of effectively three defensive midfielders, what do you expect. No creativity in the middle. The natural replacement for Odegaard in that team is Eze. Both were on the bench because Arteta was scared of Liverpool's midfield, simple. This idea of long containment with a view to a late surge is not championship mentality. Liverpool will not go to the Emirates to contain Arsenal. They will go there to attack them and score goals. That is the difference between trophy winners and 'also rans'. |
obi4eze:It appears Arteta simply believes he cannot win at Anfield and so it is. Playing Merino, Rice and Zubimendi masters the midfield but provides no outlet going forward. It was unnecessary. Eze should have started. He is a proven ball carrier, is fit, in form and has just won something. Incidentally it was a Zubimendi mistake that led to that peach of a goal. |
I don't think the outcome of the Premiership will change this season. This Arsenal team is still not good enough. They have strengthened well but what you see is a team that remains cautious and underwhelming and this is a coaching issue. Arteta should simply develop big game mentality and the tactics to go with it. This his system will not deliver troplies. |
motayoayinde:They are talking about a demographic represented by what you are likely going to fill on a form rather than church attendance, belief or faith and certainly not asking questions about the quality of any. |
Half time whistle. So who won the first, highly cagey, tactical half. |
Very tough, high pressure match, top players making silly mistakes. Today's game will be settled by nerves. |
fergie001:Arteta's old order player together with his brother on the bench and Chairman Association of carry, carry forwards, Martin Odegaard. They will never pas the ball. |
Mosquera's babalawo don finish work. Kai, biggest match of the season, freak injury within 5 minutes. |
This is why we love the Premiership. No free points. Every league match is a final. Blink and you lose, period. |
Gotocourt:You mean he has a house in Maitama....as a civil servant...? If it was discovered that the former head of the London Met had a house in Belgravia, Skynews will not let us rest or Trumps head of DHS buys an apartment in the Trump Tower, CNN will go on a meltdown. |
DelphiOracle:Like anything socio political, by advocacy, by people power. The people first recognize there is a problem then find solutions, then advocate for it. Soft advocacy first and if there is no response or reform then increase the noise. Start with what supporters of badly run club sides do in Europe. Raise banners calling for reforms at match venues like the upcoming game in Uyo. Protest visually in front of the world press. That should send a clear message and start a movement to get administration out of the hands of the cabal that runs the show today and their State FA henchmen that regurgitate these clueless and inept NFF officials. We should reexamine the electoral process to broaden it and make elections more transparent for starters. The running of our sports and football in particular is too serious a task to leave in the hands of these fellows |
Some say there is no money but at least one state is renovating grave yards to send you on your way in style. |
CJStarz:This is a forum for general issues about Nigeria and Nigerians. It is not a news medium. I don't know why people always talk about the timing of reportage. People bring topics to the fore whenever they wish to. |
Chemical1:Where are the Nigerian soldiers in those pictures because I cannot see any. It is clear these are ungoverned places lacking any constitutional authority because it should be a criminal offence to recognise such non state actors. A state should not have the authority to give immunity to anyone for such high crimes because these brigands comit capital crimes and they operate across state borders. This is one of our lowest points in corporate governace in Nigeria and these acts amount to state failure. |
Waste of time. Nigeria Men's football is in a crisis. Watched Sundowns yesterday in the SA Premier league and at times you will think you were watching European clubs sides play. That is a country whose football was in the doldrums when we won our first Nations Cup in 1980, when our club sides like Rangers, Shooting, Insurance and later Leventis, Abiola Babes, Nationale and BCC lions were continental names, when we won our first global championship in 1985... But look at what our football has been reduced to due to the Nigerian factors of mediocrity, sentiment and crass corruption. I think we need a hiatus, a football fast, a wilderness period for the purpose of soul searching and renewal because clearly this decline is terminal. The Nations Championship won by Morocco yesterday is evident and damning. The most disgusting performance by any football team out of this country I have even witnessed. And believe me I have seen a lot of Nigerian national teams. |
In a working democracy very few things should be beyond limits and the threshold for personal injury should remain high. Obi has every right to go legal just as Deji haa every right to expose him. This is one of many antidotes to feudalism. And it is necessary to prove that democracy is more about weakening the persona of the leader so he can be led. If you understand this you are well underway to making democracy work. |
Softmirror:In other climes it is termed lack of competence or lack of integrity. And if he was a pilot, a surgeon, or a structural engineer his acts will have cost lives. When your threshold for qualitative governance is this low you cannot expect anything but chaos and retrogression. My friend start demanding to be governed better. It costs you nothing if you are not personally related to the individual. |
hoygift:Atlantic. London to Toronto. Aviation is one of the few core professions where relations are permitted to serve each other making stories like these very emotional. |
Tayorshd87:Inflation rate in the US is single digit. It means nothing to them. The issue is here in Nigeria. 80 dollars in 2023 was N56,000. Today it is more than double that while value of the naira in real terms has halved making the real cost compared to 2023 equivalent to something like N170,000. The problem is here and the problem is with this government's inability to stem inflation. |
Season of hikes across board. Government leading he charge. It is clear they don't fear inflation. It is clear they know it is not a criteria Nigerians take serious when deciding the future of how they will be governed. Said it the very day gasoline subsidies was removed on this forum. That inflation will not only spread to grip the entire economy in an alligator death roll, but once that rock has been sent in motion downhill, it will continue to crush everything before it. Obviously by next year 80 dollars will no longer be sufficient because everything NIPOST needs to operate will have overtaken this cost hike and they too will have to raise it to 100, 150, or 200 dollars. I said that removal of subsidy was like a surgeon opening up a patient and removing the cancer but is now at a loss as to how to put the organs back in place. The question this government has failed to answer is. What was the plan to fight inflation and why wasn't it initiated the very moment the cancer of subsidy was removed. |
Societies built on the rule of law will resist the breakdown of law and order. That is what made them attractive to law breakers on the first place. |
These are bush planes that ferry tourists and the likes. Many cycles, cheap fares, no frills. |
And this is the result of the increased allocation to states this government boasts about. What exactly is the point in all this. We have continued to say this. Nigeria does not have a revenue challenge. It has a spending problem that is held captive by a economic culture of rent seeking manifest in huge wastages and inefficiency. From the Federal to States to local governments politicians just throw money away on projects and programs that have no bearing whatsoever on the real issues that affect the survival and progress of the people. For example the largest single project underway today and one of the largest projects in the history of this country was not an issue during campaigns. It was never discussed as a pressing matter of national importance requiring the election of the particular candidate to execute it. It was not discussed in parliament, it was not properly appropriated, not awarded according to the edicts of government and till now the details surrounding it and the promoters are held in secrecy. How can we then expect as a people for the smaller federating units to be more prudent and accountable. |
casualobserver:The culture of unproductivity is well known. The solution lies in leadership BY EXAMPLE. But from the very top the system is built around rent seeking and contracting where value is compensations cannot justify value. The other day a state government wanted equipment for it's hospitals. It had to award a contract for that when it can easily browse the net and buy directly from manufacturers. I will not even go into billion naira contracts awarded to individuals, shady companies or so called foreign expatriate firms for jobs that can be executed by direct labour. You cannot build a thriving economy if you cannot put your populace to work. And you cannot have the jobs to give them if your tendencies are towards resourcing to an ever smaller group or circle of people. If government is able to create enterprises along the lines of value chains that serve our most pressing needs, boom, the country's economy will be reflated again and the work culture established. The other day it was reported that Nigeria is the second largest African market for solar panels. That is a huge industrial potential for a productivity seeking government. All the money wasted on useless contracts for this and that can been channeled into seeding a solar production complex for example. Get those selling to us to partner, leverage on our industrial giants to partner and then when it is founded government divests to recover it's seed capital. This is how to instill a culture of work, brick by brick. Invest in productivity, not supply and contracts, mercantilism and all other elements of this rent seeking economy. |
Ofunaofu:Another proof that the government is directly fuelling inflation. Yes It costs more to produce things in Nigeria today but to put out a fire the helper needs to be different from the victims. He needs to be knowledgeable, equiped and prepared. The government has to be different from the people if it hopes to repair the economy and save the people from crushing poverty. It has to be knowledgeable and prepared. It cannot be part of the problem. It cannot be adding fuel to the fire. It should think outside the box and resource properly on how to get its products and services out to the public at the lowest possible cost. Inflation is a serious threat to the country and together with insecurity are the two horns of the dragon tormenting Nigeria today. |
Simple. That is what it should be. That is the way democracy works everywhere it impacts positively on countries and nations. A government stands or falls on performance, period, no sentiments. There is no other incentive for politicians to work for the good of the people if they cannot be removed by the people. No company or entrepreneur will employ staff it cannot sack if discipline or performance comes to question. That is why the peak of democracy came in 2015 when a non performing and corrupt government was removed at the polls but since then performace has not been the criteria two elections after. This is the result in Nigeria today, all development indices today are below 2015 levels. So it is up to Nigerians to decide if the present government has performed and deserves another term. They should decide if the government is listening to them, doing their bidding and improving their lives, whether it's austerity measures are equitable and sustainable, whether their lives and properties are safe going forward. People should vote based on their experiences under this government, period. When a school or job or professional examination is conducted the establishment is not interested in what you knew yesterday or what you may know tomorrow with more effort. You will get that position, promotion or certificate based on what you know and can do now. Elections are the examinations of political office holders. You, Mr. Citizen are one of many examiners. |
ReacherSaidNoth:Hmmm....'Grim for Amorim'. English tabloids are already out with long knives. If he cannot turn this red ship around quickly, Christmas will come early. |
Some who are aghast at his assertion question the present administration in Washington for rounding up illegals and expelling them from the US. I think we too should adopt them and regularize their stay abi. I think we should bid for the services of the present head of the DHS and sack our own Minister of Interior because the results are as clear as day and night. |
So shameful. For a country not at war. But how do you explain this if a country is not at war. We are at war. Just that the enemies are those we bow to. Just let the convoy of the people who put them there arrive and watch how the people gather and hail instead of scattering in horror. Such wars can never be won, such conflicts can never end. |
You want to buy laboratory equipment and you give out a contract for the supply thereby losing a percentage of the funds budgeted for that. Why not just contact the manufacturers and buy from them directly like normal people do. You would think austerity will do at least one critical thing for this country, that is reform the way government business is done. But no. The are still all about contracting and consultancies, dodgy transactions that mask graft and corruption. Yet those establishments that give out those so called contracts are overloaded with staff doing little, people who should be in the market themselves to buy these items directly from the source at the best possible prices to save government and us the people a lot. Austerity is about efficiency in resource management. |
