... Johnny Bravo things.Liverpool is like that barrel chested body builder with huge biceps in their menacing attackers but standing on two skinny legs in a hapless Konate and an ageing Van Dijk. All the attention has gone into their forward line forgeting the truism that attacks win matches but defences win trophies. The Premiership I'm sure will watch this match with rapt attention and a heap of relief. |
obailala:Indeed. The best time to assess power stability is when folks retum to cities from the seasonal year end holidays up until the rains start mid April. That is peak demand season. |
This is the normal rainy season bump caused by three things at the generation, transmission and distribution levels. Improved hydro electricity supply, reduced demand from air conditioners loads ( haven't needed ac for weeks now) and most of all supply interruptions due to storms, rains and flooding. Lines, poles and transformers are often affected. This is the busiest season for distribution companies maintenance and will be one of reduced revenues. |
iwaeda:That is the result of high inflation. As revenue declines due to falling demand for imports these revenue agencies have to increase rates to meet targets. It is a vicious downward spiral. All service agencies and enterprises are affected. Same disease affecting PHCN. They raise tariffs, good people find alternatives or reduce power consumption. Bad people steal power. Both lead to reduced earnings and ro make up they have to raise tariffs frequently. That is why we continue to say this. There is no alternative to a well run economy. Government cannot buy its way, sanction its way, manipulate its way out of the hard tasks of reducing inflation and reducing rates (tariffs, bank interest, tax, etc) across board to stimulate growth and productivity, elements that fight inflation. It is so easy to read the direction of this economy. We are caught up in a vicious debt crises and we better get smart as to how we intend to get out because the clock is ticking. |
Crownofgold:If there is anything like pressure this is it. The club has gone over and above, broken records, stepped on the ledge and mortgaged it's viability to secure his services. Now he has to meet the mark by superlative performances day and night and especially in Europe where a deep run into the UCL may be the key to balancing the books because local commercial earnings may not be enough. As they say when you buy a Rolls Royce you are not just buying a car but you are buying into an experience. |
This is exactly what I have said. There is nothing that can substitute for a well run economy where effort directly relates to reward. When a society tilts away from this equilibrium it moves ever closer to a collapse. A collapse of the value system as the government has accentuated with the latest sports rewards. The professions mentioned by the tabloid are basically middle class and one characteristic of the middle class is a stronger leaning towards recognition and achievements over monetary compensation. It is not the desire of typical professionals to be one the highest paid in their fields, to be name plate billionaires or to have the biggest this and that, but what they are able to achieve, the legacy they leave, the lives and institutions they impact are enough rewards. In a well run economy offering fair and equitable compensation the middle class will naturally rise and thrive. So the hullabaloo is ultimately not about the amounts given to sports men and women who have given much and won for the country out of careers that are relatively fickle and short lived but the fact that the circumstances of a badly run economy is simultaneously inflicting hardship to the vast majority and some people feel the government of the day is exploiting this strip of sporting national feel good to bandage its gaping socio-economic shortcomings. And for Nigerians to fight themselves over the rights and wrongs of the reward shows the wedge has been driven. |
ekhai:And also superintended over the 'Braziian Grass' importation scandal of the Buhari first term. They are all involved in the regression of the country Nigeria. |
Nigeria is a feudal state where the word of the king is the law and anyone who dares go contrary will face the gallows. |
Vote according to the reality of your situation and you will be alright. That is what democracy is all about. It regulates leadership. That is how voting makes a real and direct impact on your lives and livelihoods, the sum total of your citizenship experience in a nation without ideology. |
Kastonkastroll:Thought some folks on this forum were clamouring for a price war. I did warn about unintended consequences in a market at its infancy, that is a contest without the ropes of a boxing ring, pugilists without gloves and a sport with neither referee, federation or even a belt to contend for.....if you understand. There will be blood on the floor as they say and whoever is left standing, I repeat again, will enslave everyone else. In these uncivilized parts some assume free market means free range, free for all, but on reality it means freedom. |
Just vote according to your practical life experiences under this administration and you will be alright. |
Then money doesn't belong to the governors so they do what every kid in a candy store does... And that is because they real owners of the resources don't bother to ask how. If accountability is not one of your strong points I really cannot see any other destination than a land of multi dimensional poverty. |
Fuckyoumod:Had so many Indian teachers in my primary school then. Many British trained. Today they rather go to the States. To show how the economic gap has turned into a grand canyon. I will continue today this. Obasanjo's indigenization policy was a catastrophic mistake. I can't understand why he did it. Perhaps due to the West's criticism of military rule (but in the 70's dictators were not really seen as bad guys) or was it part of OBJ's quest for Pan Africanism and the fight to rid SA of apartheid. But one thing for surei ce Nigerians took over a lot of enterprises, agencies and entire sectors the decline started and Nigeria has not experienced a better succeeding year. It has been almost fifty years of decline and the Malaysia's, Indonesia"s, India's, Singapore"s and South Korea's of thus world have all left us in the dust. |
Immatex:I don't get it. Haven't seen this kind of security bteach in my life. Onve more I ask. Where is the security in our airports and what are their terms of action. |
Just like the Oshiomhole incident I just wonder why the airport security agents were unable to arrest both men. How they both were allowed to walk out of those airports, high security zones teeming with multiple security agencies after their dangerous Indiscretions is just bewildering. You just cannot do that in any serious country without making headline news and a very serious charge. |
Danoskila7:The paradox of a typical third world country. The jury never reaches a verdict. |
Who exactly do they pay these vast sums to. People smugglers or what. I just don't understand. |
Normal zero accountability tax and spend government. We have said it a million times. More revenue to government does not translate to better governance or development. Just more work for the EFCC. |
My opinion on this matter from the get go has been that such unusual rewards, (oversized parcels.... ) should have been channeled through the private sector. Through sponsors and industry partners and not directly from the government which has a hard time squaring the circle of austerity. National awards, houses perhaps (I don't know where this tradition came from) and a bit of cash (the value of which represents a universally acceptable and sustainable amount). |
lexy2014:That is Africa for you. Here we have our 15 trillion concrete road to El-dorado, 32 billion naira renovated International Conference Center in Abuja and you know na..... our 700 billion naira new or is it old airport in Lagos. Indeed, what will the average man gain in all these. |
BlackViper:Great nations are populated by people of principles whether conservative or liberal, republican or democratic or green or whatever and they all have distinct views and opinions on various subject matters affecting the society. I think we should develop these ways and have objective principles and not flip flop or fence sit. So is the big brother show immoral or not. The show cannot be accepted for decadent scenery or should I say screenery but rejected for the reward system of such when it is clear both go together. It is like the popular Nigerian saying concerning politics and governance in the eye of the electoral season storm where you often hear hapless Nigerians advising themselves to 'take the bribes but vote your conscience'. Showing how the lack of principles continue to weign down the citizens. We should stand for something. For or against and not constantly strive to have our cake and eat it. Nature does not reward that. |
If everyone an entrepreneur employs is stealing from his business then there is something fundamentally wrong with the business model. Nigerians are better served by looking into how the country operates if these stories of high level graft are to be a thing of the past. Why is every one in authority a criminal and how do we end up putting the foxes in charge of out chicken coop. |
The weather at this time in most of West Africa is too dicey to commute by chopper. Low clouds, wind shear and antiquated equipment do not mix well. |
One day Nigeria will become a Republic. In the true sense of the word. One day Nigerians will be free. One day they will finally awaken from this terrible nightmare of a feudal state. |
The symptoms are very familiar in this part of the world. Here we don't count the number of people with malaria. Here there are no statistics. Malaria is subcultural. Malaria comes like the Premier league season. You know when it starts, when it ends and which medicine will make top four. |
The lamb chops are not good at all. Apart from that I give that Med diet a low pass mark. Good thing he is ditching Nigerian food. Most are terribly unhealthy. The craze for rice and bread. Then the mountain of calories people call swallow that swallows their life expectancy. |
Omihanifa:The poor state of the Nigerian economy will naturally exempt us from that list and any that ranks the consumption of key commodities like fuels and metals. The mere fact that we still export crude oil shows how lean we are industrially. |
dederocs:Ban and create a monopoly. The outcome of that is worse. Have two or three refiners before bannng please. |
Bought 955 yesterday in Abuja. I said it last week at the presumptive price war between Dangote and marketers that it may not necessarily lead to long term price reductions. And that whoever wins will enslave everyone else. |
Nigerians preferred cooperation imstead of confrontation so the police, the store keeper, the National assembly is faithfully cooperating with the burglars to loot the shop. Nigeria is a game without referee. A free for all where the rules are made up in play. Your guess is as good as mine. That there will never be a goal scored or a winner declared. |
Nigerian politics is devoid of ideology so just vote according to your experiences in present day Nigeria. If you feel Nigeria is working vote continuity, if not vote for a change, simple. Let no one teleguide you on who to vote for. When politicians realise the people will empower or remove them based on their performance then they will seek to perform, to work for the people instead of for themselves and their interest groups. A country that has no money to pay decent wages, has no money to create jobs through enterprise has enough money for white elephant projets that benefit just a minute fraction of the population. |
WizardOfNG:This is the same excuses. Okay. No problem. Mr President needs years or decades or centuries to fix a failed embassy system. Now I hope those who are angling for office in 2027 hear this and begin to prepare plans for dealing with problems of office now. And with the same vigour the expend to make campaign promises. Because this country is tired of electing people who are not prepared. Who are experts at winning elections but juvenile at the essence of governance. |
