anonimi:I see. So they earn revenue, pay into government account and then wail for their unpaid salaries. Hmmm....such a glorious system. |
WizardOfNG:Why not say since 1960. You guys should realise that there is no one else on this earth who can do anything about the situation except those who are presently in charge. If we go down the route of excusing every challenge nothing will ever get solved. When you strongly critique it is not just the present system you send a signal to but you are also warning whoever seeks to lead in future that they better get prepared or not bother to stand at all. I don't know of any democracy anywhere in the world where leaders are given such a free pass to mediocrity like this country's. Is it not to your benefit as a citizen if these problems are sorted out fast. |
But these embassies generate revenue through various consular services. Why can't they pay themselves and clean up their digs. I think one serious reform that should take place is for these embassies to create serious and organized business desks to facilitate international trade and get paid for brokerage. |
Hmmm..... season of a hundred thousand dollars. Oya Mr. Akpabio, it is your turn to shower the naira. |
Is the arrest and so called parading the end game. This is not right. In saner climes those paraded are the kingpins or the entire gang, the network. Now that her picture is splashed all over her handlers will most certainly get away. They should borrow a lead from US ICE or Homeland. Where they have Intel they secretmy follow the perp, gathering more information over weeks and months until they have the entire picture . Where they make an arrest on evidence they keep it under wraps, quickly flip the perp and track the rest of the gang secretly. I think there is a rush by government and it's agents to show workings but they will gain nothing if all they achieve is the arrest of the expendable and replaceable foot soldiers. This war on terror I insist is a war of superior intelligence and counter intelligence. |
wisz1:He has made his position clear as the defacto owner of the PDP. That his support is for the President come 2027 so the PDP might as well not present any candidate for the elections. Wike is forcing the PDP into a coalition with the governing party whether they like it or not. This is clear. |
Just vote according to your experiences, period. Tie your vote to your dividend and you will be alright. Let anyone say whatever they want to say. |
I am not a fan of all these nonsensical regional rotational form of democracy and I will never consider voting until Nigeria is restructured and everyone is given equal opportunity to contest for political office at every general election. However Mr. Umahi. By 2031 the fifth republic democracy will have been 32 years old and out of this the south west alone will have enjoyed the presidency for 16 years. That is half of the entire duration, just one out of six geographic zones if Mr. Tinubu is re elected. How does a nation that expects to fire on all cylinders have leadership that oscillates essentially between the northwest and southwest with other zones acting as fillers and political makeweights, spare tire zones for deceased and invalid leadership. But hey, it is not my business. I don't do it and I don't think apartheid. But this 6 cylinder country cannot progress, cannot win any race with only two cylinders permitted to work. |
Hmmm.... Serie A. The sick man of the big five European leagues. Ialian club managers are really small minded and thoroughly insecure. That is why the league continues to be unattractive to foreign investment and their league struggles to sign the best players in the world. Like any business the freer the market the more prosperous the participants. Who will like to enter where he cannot easily exit. Who will bank where they willingly accept deposits but peddle stories when it comes to withdrawals. They should look to the Premiership where players move at will to teams which they directly compete with without much fuss. Even the ultra conservative Spanish league has thawed it's hostility to player movement between the big three that was a taboo many years ago. They should wake up or quality internationals will give the Serie A a wide berth and with it goes big commercial earnings. |
....hmmm....bulldozer business is about to boom. Caterpillar will be thinking of opening an office in Alausa to provide world class services where needed. |
When you vote according to your experience you will be alright. Let no one force you to vote according to what they want. They don't feed you, they don't care for you or your future. When Nigerians decide to link their electoral choices to their experiences under governance then democracy will start to matter, start to work in their interest. I see no reason why anyone will vote for a government that makes their lives significantly worse and blatantly refuses to hear them out. |
Hmmm. Good move. When you have exhausted every resource within your country then it makes sense to look outwards and abroad for investment. If this country was a proper federation with states given broader powers to control their economies I believe this country will have been far ahead. Centralization since independence has been a major retardant to competitive governance with most states hiding behind the limitations of allocations and the excuses of Federal domination. |
Shots fired. What happens if the Inter deal falls through. Then he will discover just how toxic Italian fans can be. |
GlobalWay:Because the right thing is exceptionally difficult for them to do. To improve and develop this country from where it is they have to think outside the box, tear down the old system of governance and virtually commit class suicide. They cannot do these things so they rather drag the country deeper into the mire by compromising every element of state institutions that guarantee good governance. Some Nigerians know how to turn things around, how to kick bad habits, how to turn bankrupt enterprises to profit, how to create wealth, how to lead and motivate people to productivity. Unfortunately such people are considered alien to a system that cannot guarantee a better next year. |
Always appealing, cajoling and trying to impress upon 'leaders', never the people. So you have a democracy in which performance to the benefit of the people is not a vriteria for winning elections. Why not just do the business of good governance. Improve the lot of the people so you won't have to appeal for any one individual's support. But I guess this is the most difficult task for the average Nigerian politician. Why 'make' when you can 'buy'. |
AMINDA:Didn't realize this. Wow. This is bad. Really ugly. Not interested in who gets what. Performance is my interest but you can't look past this anomaly. I hope the east and south are watching and learning how the north uses it's might to pull stuff their way. They should ask themselves what they stand to gain by rushing headlong towards the so called centre. |
Once again. The black man is just not wired to engineer viable, successful and sustainable societies. Of all the peoples on this earth it was the negro that became the signpost for slavery despite the fact that no territory on earth has escaped vanquishing in all antiquity. |
It is third world countries that fester on projects, contracts and cake sharing. Serious, sensible nations talk about human capital developement. Employment, interest rates, industrial capacity, enterprise creation, inflation, STEM education and all the nuts and bolts of productivity that prospers nations and lifts people out of poverty. When will people insist to be given the tools to develop themselves rather than subject themselves to the eternal humiliation of begging for a living. Because the first fruits of democracy is a crave for liberty for any self respecting peoples. |
kingthreat:This is a similar angle to what I said. Leverage on his success by doing something of greater value. Imagine setting up an academy for him. Parents and care institutions will be falling over themselves to participate and the impact of his values, achievement and skills will be better harvested. |
All those things will pass away and be forgotten. A better reward will have been to open an academy for the man to fish for new talents and cement his legacy. |
adicius:Sometimes you just wish you can change nationality within your country. Yesterday it was reported on radio in Abuja about the open defecation menace. About how the median on the Airport road is become a hot house with patrons doing their business in full view of travellers coming by air into the city. The capital of the largest black nation on earth. If there is anything called shame, I felt it to the bones yesterday. This country eh. |
.... indeed, looking blasted and blackened like some F4 - Phantom dropped a few napalm cannisters. But Sowore should realise that Nigeria is actually at war. The ruling class has declared war on the hapless citizens. How else can you record the escalating number of deaths due to violence, hunger and destitution in a country supposedly at peace. |
Na so. Tax and More money for contractors and consultants to build white elephants and to engineer them to fly. |
There are many products and services out there people cannot afford. No one goes about banning them. If socialism can get Ghana a competing or free to air satellite broadcaster then it should go ahead. Let them tell Toyota how much they should sell their cars or P&G how much their care products should go for. If Ghanians cannot afford DSTV, the company by itself will withdraw it's services. That is how it works. |
Agugbadin:Ask the people there. They sold out their franchise for a candy bar. A one party state, a PDP fiefdom for over 25 years suddenly switched without as much as a tremble. One can only imagine what it will take any opposition party or coalition to snatch a state like Lagos from the ACN, a king's ransom? or the promise of heaven on earth? This is the synopsis of how politics has been played south of the Niger. The elevation of individualism way, way above collective ideals and the detachment of politics from governance. It is always about personal survival. |
Interesting. See what real political haggling by real political leaders can cause. Kwakwanso coughs, the APC sneezes. It is southern politicians both for and against the establishment that are busy railing against the northern establishment instead of haggling for benefits for their fiefdoms. No, they rather sold out their people cheaply for personal reasons. Or are places like Delta and Akwa Ibom that did the so called wholescale 'collapsing of structures' not worthy of such developments. Like I said the other day heads, tails the north has its way whether in power or out of it because they know what they want and understand the linkages between politics and governance. |
bishop212:That clause is what excluded Juventus who were willing to pay for his services and this will have been the ideal deal because Juventus play the kind of football that suits his technic and they give players higher resale value dou to their high level exposure, something Galatasaray doesn't have. |
Chidozianu:Tht won't happen. And you know that. Players don't win trophies, teams do and Osimen's supporting acts at Galatasaray remain modest. The best Turkish players don't play in Turkey. |
Gentledove2001:He is speaking about leadership, those entrusted with the country's finances and how they spend it as if the resources belong to them personally. You cannot employ a person to run your company and the person decides to expend the bulk of the resources of that company on himself, his comfort, his ideas, his projects and then he tells you that there is not enough for the company staff or to run the company. You will end up making a case in the police station and no one will tell you you are demarketing your company. Now had it been we had a functional legislature to ask questions on our behalf as citizens, to query why the refineries are not working despite billions in dollars spent or Ajaokuta consuming trillions of naira without as much as making a bag of nails, the people of good will will respond. I repeat no one on earth who is entrusted with anything of substance will not abuse it if there are no questions to be asked and no one to lay account to. |
I keep on saying this. There is no alternative to a well run economy. An economy with low inflation and reasonable interest rates that spur enterprise. Every other thing is just chasing a mirage. Increased wages will just be like pouring water into a scalding pot, it vaporizes instantly Governments of sensibly run countries set bench marks for the critical index of inflation and fight it with everything they have. I said it on this forum immediately the announcement of subsidy removal was made two years ago. That inflation is indeed ignited and like a wild fire it will spread from the pumps to engulf the entire economy and that by the time it hits the durable goods sector it will become systemic and unmanageable. The government did nothing to fight inflation. Now the security sector is impacted. And if agents are not able to secure their livelihoods how will they secure this country. How will their responsibilities not become commercialized and open to bidding by all and sundry including the criminal sector. Nigerians should stand up and demand for a well run economy. There is no alternative to this. Throwing money at every problem is not going to cut it. |
bentenny:Indeed. Suffered enough to wake up and start asking serious questions as to how the country's finances are handled. Seeking transparency in government transactions and taking charge of what government spends money on. |
