They say don't criticize blindly but constructively. Everyday you hear strong advice on all sorts of forums and media spaces yet this one trick pony of a government continues in error. Government has changed from PDP to APC to APC again. From academic to ex-military HOS, now to astute administrator and consummate politician yet the story remains alight. Tens die every other day, hundreds on a weekly basis and tens of thousands every year. These are citizens we speak of here. Lives of the people they boast about serving well. Yet they are not held to account. A nation that cannot solve it's problems. What exactly is the use and function of leadership then. Why bother to have them elected at such great expense and cost to the country when they cannot work for the good of the country. What fundamental change has this government rolled out in the area of security different from its predecessors that Nigerians can say will work and can see is gaining traction.....NONE. |
And who took it to the brink of collapse sir. Your party has successfully sold both virus and medicine to Nigerians. And if not that Nigerians don't know the simple workings of democracy. That you don't re elect failed parties back into government. We will have been in another trajectory by now leaving your party to ponder on its ways. |
9th Wonder of the World. Politics is so horrible. The worst profession in the world. |
What is the difference between this and what the Sicilian mafia or American mobsters were globally reknowned for, extortion and the threat of violence to underpin it... And how did Americans specifically react to that. They pressed for the RICO Act of 1970 when the mobsters were getting away with a slap on the wrist by the law. It is high time Nigerians and lagosians in particular press for the proscription of the NURTW and all it's affiliates under whatever guise and bring RICO like legislation to severely punish anyone or group found involved in extortion, threats and violence to obtain money from transporters. The public gains absolutely NOTHING from these brigands and urban bandits rather they add to the cost of transportation and make it impossible for the kind of reforms, modernisation and entrepreneural competition that can potentially improve services and drive down fares. This is 2025 for heavensake. Where else in the world does this kind of shameful, reprehensible way of life occur. And for it to be the postcard of the commercial capital of the country is just unfortunate. |
This ia not a good situation. Government should distance itself from these sort of things. History tells us these are the signs of an unpopular goverment akin to the PDP in 2014. Once acts of coercion spills into public life then popular opinion can go downhill pretty fast. The government has fewer options than it thinks. Good governance is perhaps the only lifeline. |
Na so. While Rome burnt Nero played the fiddle. Good governance is also about giving priority to the toughest challenges the people you govern face. Watch Sky tv on UK governance, watch CNN on American governance, the top issues are about the people and leadership. Not here. |
femi4:Same slow tempo, languid style as Victor Boniface and Kai Havertz. To succeed in the Premiership with that kinda play he has to be an exceptional technician. |
Watched him play a number of times. He has a pace and sharpness issue that might not be a problem in La Liga or Serie A. But to compete in the Premiership he has to get a lot fitter, pacier and must learn to react lightning fast or defenders will will eat him up. Technically he is okay. |
Was expecting to see a couple of 'white men' there but I guess Oyibo gets theirs without asking. |
Racoon:I don't think this is true. If I am not mistaken. One of my coursemates back then had both mum and dad generals. Name not at the top of my head just now. |
That ia the product of feudalism. One man's idea about everything. One man's will to do his wish. When we are tired of suffering then true democracy will be demanded, founded and guarded to bring real change and development to Nigeria. Until then be content to elevate individual so called leaders to god like status and when their abysmal tenures are over have the fortitude to listen with excitement to the excuses they give for their failures. |
Floky215:They will eventually get a nuclear weapon. But it will not make any difference since such weapons cannot be used in the kind of conflict or confrontation they seek. |
quickly:Slow and steady, soccer will dominate US sports in a generation or two. It is already very popular wih the important demographic, the young and is gaining grassroots support with a huge number of amateur clubs forming lower leagues. Soccer is certainly the fastest growing sport in the US today. |
Every new thing has its doubts. The next edition will be a better spectacle. It is already a huge success and will elevate the standards of club soccer in non European parts of the world, expose more players to global attention and financially empower and incentify local club sides. Now tournaments like the CAF Champions league wil be taken even more seriously. I just hope that the NPFL is taking notes and is strategizing on how its teams will get to the top of African club soccer. Mamelodi Sundowns of SA is reported to have earned about 12.5 million dollars. That is about 19 billion naira despite not surviving the group stage. That sort of cash alone will finance their club for a couple of seasons and enable the kind of investment that will keep them competitive for a while. |
Celestialsword:If the people feel the institutions are in cahoots with these bad leaders they should not fold their arms and wait but exercise their franchise and vote them out. That sends clear signals that they will not tolerate misgovernance of any kind. That is how sane societies work. If these lawmakers talking rubbish today will all be jettisoned next elections specifically because of their failures to supervise government then and now, the next set will take their jobs more seriously. If the Republican party in the US cannot bring inflation down you can be cocksure they will lose out next elections no matter how badly the Democratic party is seen today. That is why Trump is fighting to remove the Fed chairman (equiv to our CBN chair) who has refused to lower rates. Their democracy is purely performance based. No sentiments. Jimmy Carter's dithering over American hostages held in Iran caused his landslide loss to Reagan despite his good handling of the economy. Today this government is failing to secure this country. Nigerians are dying in numbers while holding onto their party cards avowing to return their pet government to power. How can such people be governed well. If Mr. Oshiomole a serving lawmaker cannot pay the price despite his admission of failure then how do you start to get any former, past president to account for his time in office. Go after serving people first, go after the people that are responsible for shaping, oiling and guarding the system first. The success of democracy lies with the rule of law and the acts of lawmakers. |
ponishah:This is one of the problems. We don't take them seriously. We let everything slide and fail. If these people were our employees, which they are in deed and they fail this badly, what do we do. If Nigeria was our business, which it is, will we play with it this way. Nigerians must as a matter of urgency wake up and stand up to claim proper ownership of this country try and begin to set the standards by which it will be run. You cannot be running a business for 26 years and it keeps on declining, yielding no dividend to you despite repeated costly changes of management. You will have to drop whatever you are doing and take charge or the business will eventually collapse. Nigeria must be our business if we are interested in owning it. |
KillahPriest:We were all here. It was not long ago. This forum was set ablaze by critics on one hand and butt surveyors on the other with the so called representatives of the people boldly saying they must work with the President for the good of the country. So what is the useless man saying now. Useless as in non functional, not fit for the purpose of a lawmaker. |
But then they were all in support 'of whatever' Baba Buhari was doing as 'patriotic' lawmakers and citizens of Nigeria and vilifying every critic. Just as those on this forum they want to be taken seriously today. They are just lucky we live in a society short on memory and fidelity if not the penalties for failure of responsibility by the individuals and institutions of checks and balances will have been dire. Today we are in the same boat. The boat of what Baba Tinubu says is law and we should accept it without question, without debate, without sound scrutiny. By 202whatever the hypocrites will be back lamenting. This is symptomatic of a society, a nation, a people that simply cannot self govern successfully. That cannot make incremental progress, that cannot solve a single societal problem in 26 years of 5th republic so called democracy. Feudalism is killing this country. The useless senator should resign and return his wages and allowances and together with his colleagues present throughout that disaster of a government tender an unreserved apology for their collective failures. Rubbish talk. |
Exousiang01:The owner of Tesla has been ranting against the US President of late concerning plans for the economy, and using words no one will dare to in this part of the world and he has not been detained or harassed by government lackeys, lapdogs or lunatics....or haven't you been in on the news. If you don't want anyone to harass your dear and beloved leaders on their misgovernance just tell them to leave us the hell alone to live our lives without destroying what they met in far better shape than they are operating it. Then they will see just how creative and enterprising Nigerians really are. Anyone with any once of sincerity will know that government and these leaders remain the biggest impediment to the development of this country. |
WriterNig:Long time since I've read such bull. These people are not Africans that carry historic socio cultural baggage up and down or like Nigerians that cannot let go of their so called heritage and integrate into the societies they emigrate to but rather resort to violence and brigandage. When they leave, they leave and abandon everything of their past. Are you aware that almost all the royal houses in Europe including that of the UK right now can trace their ancestry one way or the other to pre Communism Russian royal families. That the first world war was essentially a war between brothers. The history of Europe is one of wars and conquest, migrations and multifolded ancestry. You will not find a European that does not have mixed ancestry be it from the wars of the 19th and 20th century or right back to the empires of Rome and Gaul. Europe did not start in 1939, wake up man. If you see a European country citizen say, I am going home, just give me a call. For all that it is worth, just check up the genealogy of Mr. Putin himself. I am sure you will be shocked. |
CHAQUR:Those are most likely illustrations that the press give to stimulate those lacking imagination. |
There are very few professions that require the skill and courage top airline pilot need to have on tap at a moments notice. To go from routine to life and death within seconds is not for the faint hearted nor the casual with a thought system that is shielded from bad economies, relationship turbulence or fear itself. |
ufotunang:That is what we say. Nigeria has a structural problem not a corruption problem or a poverty problem which are mere symptoms of the 'Gowonesque curse'. They said if government has more revenue the lot of her people will improve. Well, it is getting clearer to doubters that all the loans in the world, all the taxes in the world, all the oil revenue in the world cannot separate the Nigerian from poverty. All that has happened in the last two years is a widening gap, a deepened gorge between the classes of Nigerians and until the country is restructured nothing will shift the needle of extreme depravity attached to this country. So while we clap for the signing of the tax bill that puts yet more money into the hands of government, can we hazard to ask for a bill that regulates how government spends.... |
Shows how weak and ignorant the people are. The business owner cannot as much raise a voice while his workers lavishly spend his money on themselves. And to make matters worse tell him to manage the paltry returns from the failing business. And yet expect him to respond with glee. The story of Nigeria. |
lexy2014:It is terribly dangerous my friend. Anywhere in the world that amount of cash @ PPP will paint a target on your back. |
I doubt that Mr. Suswam. The beans of mind bending suffering is still on the fire. Not enough heat to format the Nigerian brain. Since all the pirates are now on one ship you'd think a single cannon ball will bring security to the high seas but your gunpowder remains wet in the so called liberty ship. |
Hope they didn't use our precious 7.62mm that we are all complaining is in short supply to kill that.... thing. |
Why do I suspect there is a gang up to promote the bombing mssion as a total success when there are doubts that it was. Trump is ignoring security reports casting doubts even when the final BDA is not out. The Israelis are also quick to report apparently not to blind side the US and it is no surprise the Iranians are probably on board so as to gain a reprieve. All sounds so funny but at the sametime even more dangerous because a wounded snake is far worse than a tempestuous one. |
We don't care about the numbers as long as our man is re elected. It is turn by turn rush to the basement of humanity. We don't elect people by any standards present or intended. |
Myrepublic:Apt. That is the lot of the average Nigerian. They cannot relate politics to governance, For them democracy starts and ends at the polls, at winning elections and decide for themselves that savvy politicians automatically make for great statesmen, visionaries and adept nation builders. That is why 26 years of 5th republic democracy, 26 years after handover to the people worshipped today, that is a third of a man's lifetime, 6 general elections that has cost billions of dollars, the country is fundamentally no better than it was in 1999. You just wonder how a people can remain in the same spot digging an endless pit for themselves, and remain steadfast boasting in their folly and rejoicing in their tragedy. When will the Nigerian wake up to make his life liveabble and worthwhile. |
My dad said he would never forget the side to side Panorama pictures on tv in 1969 courtesy of this man and his colleagues at the BBC Africa Service. Said he cried that night and will be somwhat ashamed around his colleagues in London for days thereafter. Had all his writings and novels and I had read most of them as a kid. Didn't understand a lot then. But today it is clear to me, visible and audible why Nigeria is like this and why it just cannot work as a viable, prosperous nation. |
Tjra:He will be arrested by INTERPOL. That is their job. To render international fugitives. |
