JaskanFactor:Just plane spotting. No conspiracy here. |
Originalsly:Two factors so far. One flight radar indicates loss of signature contact within one minute - system failure. Second the pilots declared a 'mayday' which is unusual for a takeoff meaning loss of control - system failure. From the video one could speculate total (dual) engine failure. I hate to think the dreaded pilot error - flap setting. But the warning systems will virtually deafen the pilots. |
NothingDoMe:You saw the fireball. Takeoff accidents are rarely survivable. |
Gosh. What a tragedy. Looks like engine failure. Takeoffs are very, very risky particularly for long flights because the aircraft will be full of highly combustible kero. |
When an economy tanks HSE, health, safety and the environment suffers and this includes the quality of food available to the public. Everyone, I mean everyone compromises one way or the other. That is the primary incentive to get your economy working and working for all. It is your life and wellbeing you are fighting for. |
ChybuzzDD:It's mass. That is all it needs. And if course it has enough fatty tissue around it's vitals to die last if the others make a stake. |
It is about survival. The one that can take the most punishment will be the last standing. That not only means physical endurance but the the protection of its blood vessels and vital organs. By the way none of them is likely going to bother the rhino. |
ChybuzzDD:They are saying the plain truth. The Federal security forces are not enough to police the country to any acceptable standards. How many are they, all of them combined to police the 925,000 square kilometres of the country and 200 million people.... the resources are just not there. Security is a demand pull service not an offering. Security is what you have on ground awaiting incidents, not what you react to snd start running around. Do you appoint your local vigilante or maiguard after your house is burgled or you employ them to deter crime, detect crime and destroy criminality. And if you and me as common citizens have this knowledge and little ability to protect our lives and properties what is stopping States and councils from having police services operating under the law. Criminality continues unchecked and people die enmasse needlessly because there is a huge security lacuna between the individual citizen and the Federal government. The lack of state and council security franchises is like having no state or local government. Can a country successfully exist like that, no. Government at all levels should be equiped with the independent means to secure their localities and territories because it is a core demand ofthe people who voted them in. What I am seeing in the picture above is just absurd. You can never see this in any developed country. So disheartening. |
While in the US the governor of California is exerting his independence and resisting the President's security interference in his State. I guess this country remains as far from development as can ever be. Whenever the federating states and councils are ready to grow from their kindergarten status and into administrative adulthood then they will begin to prosper. |
These are the things we speak about, a decentralized security system where the country is delineated into zones or areas of security demands, such as the federating zones of state and local government having their own security network then specific places of high value, security zones like airports which should have their own security service outside the control of the regular or national police. So that the unruly senator's security detail will have had no influence whatsoever to disrupt operations at the airport and in doing so both him and all those involved will have been promptly arrested. A lot of lawlessness is perpetuated because of the centralsed security system we operate in Nigeria so the average citizen on the streets and in his place of business cannot bring the law into play because there is no responsibility and accountability. There is no reason whatsoever why such an airport of such importance cannot have security men pounce on top of the brigands within seconds of such serious actions. You can imagine if they were terrorists bent on causing mayhem. This is bad. Very bad. The image of the country is once again thrashed. |
JikSneh:That is because with the exception of weather, strikes and pilot error all other air incidents find their origins on the ground be it maintenance and certification issues, cargo issues, flight planing issues, etc. That is the competence of the various ground staff that prepare aircraft for flight and for the presidential fleet there is a higher degree of professionalism. |
Cargo fires. That is my only serious concern. International flights mandate all electronics be carried onboard. Still not enforced locally. But then, if a lithium ion battery ignites in flight, what the hell do you do. And there's a mountain of substandard stuff folks carry around these days. |
My gosh. Just learning this. So sad at the demise of a literal icon. My and my father's best author. Have all his works. His legacy will surely live forever. |
sanya4good:The Federal government cannot do anything about kidnapping in Nigeria so get that straight. Kidnapping is a crime of opportunity so it can happen anywhere and the federal government simply does not have the resources to cover all bases. Kidnapping is also a crime of the clock meaning that it is over in seconds and minutes. Much faster than the federal government can respond. So expecting the federal government to secure Nigeria from thousands of types of criminality involving millions of Nigerians daily is like the folly of using chicken wire mesh to prevent mosquitoes. I have said it before. The US State of California alone has more law enforcement officers than the entire US Federal government has FBI agents and officers. There is a reason why it has become so. The consequent demand of the people of that state to have security over and beyond what Uncle Sam can afford. The Nigerian Federal government cannot secure Nigeria to any acceptable level of decency. It just cannot. |
ChrisIntegral:What is wrong with Nigeria is structure. What is wrong with Nigerians is gross ignorance and incompetence. The structure of internal security has not changed from colonial times when the police served the government as a tool of control and coercion. That also served the various military dictatorships hence the structure was retained. Ordinarily one would expect that with the return of democracy in 1999 the Constitution will hand over the powers of internal security and policing to the people, to serve them and their interests as in all other civilised climes. But no. Each successive so called democratically elected government has become even more dictatorial than the previous and with it the police has lost its essence, respect, responsibility and function. Nigeria and Nigerians have never been this insecure since the civil war. So to get it right Nigerians have to demand for the same structures and standards of policing they see working properly in other climes or they will just be toying with their life expectancy. |
Devolve policing powers to the federating units of state and councils, for effective coverage and precision, they say no. So that every policeman is under the authority of the President for feudal reasons. Guess what. If the man is not interested in any one locality or any specific type of crime then such are ignored by the system and the victims left to rot. If the Nigerian citizen who is a victim of this crass maladministration cannot stand up and demand that security be brought to his doorstep and placed under his control, to serve him then he is likely going to suffer even more anguish as the elements that fuel crime, poverty, desperation and social moral bankruptcy continue to rise on Nigeria. |
It is so clear that Mr. President is not a democrat. His entire political movement from 1999 till date has been about establishing a feudal state system of government through the instrumentality of politics. A system where the average Nigerian has no say whatsoever in who governs him and how he is governed. There is no greater danger to the future of a country than to have a system cultured after the image of an individual no matter how qualitative such leadership is. Democracy is about the ability of the people to aggregate their own resources to govern themselves in the way they so deem fit. Leadership is merely representative not ownership of the people or the processes. So leadership will come and go but the values the people are able to acquire is what leads to development. With feudal systems the people don't learn the values that build their society and eventually when the leadership is gone such societies breakdown. The future of this country is not looking good at all. |
mrvitalis:Someone is thinking here. My primary idea about governance and development is that government incentifies, seeds, aggregates resources then transmits to the public to operate receiving back its capital and perhaps a dividend. At the end of the day the hotel maybe built but it will certainly be run aground if government attempts to own and operate it. The private sector is much more realistic and attuned to the conditions of operating enterprises. |
The refinery alone cannot meet our demands except in a severely depressed economy. |
If it is Gulf oil money he wants then it is bye-bye because he will become invisible to a lot of fans, pundits and governing bodies. IHe should strive for top teams in the two top leagues in Europe. Be the centre piece at the greatest arenas of soccer and in three or four seasons create a legacy, then go collect your gratuity in Arabia. There is still time. Saudi will continue to pay crazy money for a while, up until they host the world cup in 2034. |
Highly fatty meat indeed, not to be consumed in large quantities but very, very tasty. |
We operate feudal societies in Africa. That's why. And tried endlessly to mix that oil with water to no avail. African leaders are weighed down by personality issues. They want to be called democratic yet want to operate as maxim leaders. The monarchies in the west and east have remained strong and relevant yet they stay well within their boundaries and leave governance to the operators of democracy. Here a commoner is elected councillor and he instantly becomes pig headed. |
Quest7777:From what the In time to come.you will begin to hear, 'my road is the only way to get to.....'. This may just end up becoming presidential.gratuity. Personally I will be observing if attention is given to the so called alternative roads because they may end up being the competition that must be put down. |
A higher price is affordable abroad because the use of gasoline is not as extensive as in Nigeria. In Nigeria there are few alternatives. Here public transport is rudimnetary and inefficient, power is irregular and telecommunications and interconnectivity is a lot better over there. Then there is the face to face culture which is a lot less abroad due to a higher level of trust in society meaning people move around a lot less. Whenever I spend time with folks abroad issues surrounding fuel is not near the top of activities. Visits to gas stations do not constitute the centre of their lives the way it does in Nigeria. |
The desire to be nearer the centre is an admission of hopelessness. It is juvenile, infantile thinking. When a boy turns into a man the first thing he seeks is liberty, the first thing he proves is independence. While most well meaning Nigerians seek a restructuring that will give the federating units a sense of responsibility that unlocks potentials this man seeks more slavery for his government and his people despite all his state is blessed with. Something is very, very wrong here. He should take a cue from the Lagos of the recent past where the centre was often viewed as a hindrance, a liability rather than an asset. And growth and progress was delivered to a certain extent despite being far from the so called centre. |
Oga, how.....when. |
wellmax:Like opening a branch of Cartier at Nyanya, Mararaba..... |
occfx:The government seeds high value chain companies, weans them to profitability and then sells themoff to the public to recoup it's investment. That is all that Nigeria needs to move ecomically forward. Not shady handouts or rice pyramid schemes. Real value that will create jobs and spur investment from within the country and offshore. Every month governments at all levels should be commissioning plants, industries and works that address areas or items of great need in Nigeria in food, medicines, energy, technology, small, medium and large scale according to their capacity. And these are the things the electorate should demand for, not stipends and hot air. |

Factcheck0001:All vehicles can take you to where you want to go. But it is the one that you can drive that will take you there. It is not about the person, the candidate, it is about the system, the ability of the people to control their government and make it do what they want. That is what democracy is all about and the only guarantee for success. A government of the people in deed. |
OMEGA009:Hmmm. Did you just say the child was precious to them.... |
