They increased prices of cement in Tuesday co.e dey talk this nonsense . No wahala . Keep it up
See.
They will increase the price for the public so as to sell cheaper to government - indirect taxation on top. The same thing that has been happening to the forex market for 50 years is now happening for comodities. Multiple prices for same product. And the result will be round tripping.

Anyway since we did not complain about multiple prices for electricity why complain now. Tomorrow government will strike a deal with Dangote to buy fuel at a reduced price for itself and its lackeys and the public will subsidize that too.

In other climes there will be outcry at the widening gap between the haves and the have nots, about how the poor subsidies the greed of the rich. But here praises already at what amounts to the inability of government to build prosperity for all, an egalitarian society.
Politics › Re: Dangote, BUA To Freeze Cement Price For Government Projects by Reference(m):
Will this not amount to indirect taxation on top of VAT if the public makes up the difference on the subsidized cement for government projects only.

Is the government abdicating it's responsibilities for price stability through lowering inflation. Why the selective economy.

Now watch as there will be cement round tripping via government contractors selling cheaper government cement to the public.

On one hand he is lamenting the worsening situation and on the other hand he is resisting a suggested fundamental change in the way things are done. Talking nonsense about gallantry.

This is the lot of the Nigerian under this version of democracy we practice. One that cannot solve anything, even the basic aspects of life and decent living.

And people are comfortable being led by blind folks, voting them into authority time and again.

Just like a popular caller to a radio talk station in Abuja that is a dawn to dusk wailer on all things governmental misrule but is coincidentally a ruling party political expert.

You just wonder how these folks square the circles they run around in.

He should stop lying. Who or what is he referrig to as 'the US'.

The Republicans control all government presently but are the Democrats 'rejoicing'. Hasn't he seen the protests and the backlash in parts of Anerica at the present government's policies and the loss of some States to the Democrats in the just concluded sub national elections.

And doesn't Oshiomole realize why the Republicans have swept government, on account of the dismal performance of the Biden era Democratic party which refused to listen to complaints about the economy and immigration?

Please he should not in any way compare US politics to the primitive, feudal equivalent practiced here where people gravitate to failed, underperforming governments out of hopelessness, desperation and a meal to feed.

There they hold their governments to account and do not hesitate to pull the electoral trigger once they are dissatisfied no matter who is in office. And that is why their present leadership is battling hard to do their bidding in bringing jobs, investment and productivity back home not giving excuses and insulting the sensibilities of the people.

If this country survives these set of leaders history will look back with absolute reprehension at what they had done to traumatize the people of Nigeria.

So Boko Haram drones are more superior to ours. While we are understaffing and underfunding our Nigerian Army we keep asking ourselves who are the people funding and equipping Boko Haram huh
Underfundinghuh. Do you realize how much out of our budget goes to this war, do you realize how much of our huge debts has gone to military procurement?

Have you seen senior officers of the military buying up multi million naira properties and driving luxury cars in the Federal capital.

The sums simply do not add up. For some of them this war should not end anytime soon.

What this government and this president should do is to set up a strong internal audit unit and counter intelligence agency within the Presidency under a War Office to superintendent over this insurgency.

It is time for a more hands on approach and a microscope placed over those security and military agencies prosecuting this war.

Anything government touches that involves finances, the disbursement of funds, the collection of funds, intervention programs, social handouts, foreign loans, investments, business support grants, student loans, school feeding, infrastructure provision, in fact everything money leads to corruption on a grand scale.

Folks, it is not the water from stream, well or water board that is the problem. It is the structure of the container that is used to fetch it. That of Nigeria is clearly a wicker basket from which the people will never, ever drink.

So you can change the person fetching the water time and again and blame him or her for not being skilled enough, committed enough or sincere enough. As long as a basket is used to fetch the water of progress, of relief, this country will continue to be a basket case (no pun intended).

Beyond the road shoulders and drainage channel the government should ensure residents and adjoining land owners pave their frontages because the soil/sand I can see on the road surface will degrade the road and shorten it's lifespan. To keep the road in good condition it has to be cleaned regularly.

omonnakoda:
We just don't get it do we?

We have absolutely no business exporting gas to anybody

What you are putting in those pipelines is your children's future
Ask what are they going to use that gas to do in Europe

Why can't they do that in Nigeria?

They will buy the gas cheap and use it to make expensive stuff to you

.We don't need dollars we need to raise our economy to the level that people are looking for Naira

That won't happen by selling gas. Russia has many times more gas than we do but is not the leading economy in the world

The leading economies are not those who sell gas but those that buy it

That should be our goal

What is gas used for

To make cement, electricity, glass products, steel aluminium and other metal products , fertilizers, chemicals, plastic and hydrogen

Why should we not make those things here

Trump is not entirely crazy with his America first agenda

Selling gas to Europe is making a statement to say we will never industrialize

They should bring those companies to Nigeria to make steel, plastic and hydrogen

Hydrogen is a future game changer. We need to wake up
Bitter and painful fact Even the pipeline would be made with steel from places like China using imported energy
Not one inch of pipeline would be made in Nigeria

After 50 years the gas would finish and most of the money would be stolen and our grandchildren would look even more stupid than we look today as if we don't look stupid enough

If they cannot use the gas here let it stay in the ground
Honestly, Nigerians should be sore sick of all these pipe dreams (pun unintended). And should be seriously concerned about good and proper governance wrapped in the cloak of accountability and probity as the horse before the cart in motion about these ventures.

What has the average Nigerian benefitted in terms of prosperity for the decades of investment and sales of trillions of dollars worth of minerals resources and E.I. products.... These are things that should be debated.

Almost half a century after the discovery of oil we still cannot advance the industrialization needle, we cannot turn oil and gas to electric power, heck we don't even know exactly how much fuel we use domestically thoughtless of how much crude oil we export all because of corruption and quackery.....

I haven't seen it 35 years after the LNG trumpet. This one is another story.
Politics › Re: UAE To Invest In $25 Billion Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Project by Reference(m): 10:02pm On May 13, 2025
The problem with this is that as soon as it is completed we may begin to hear about acute shortages of gas in Nigeria on account of some profligate government selling the stuff years in advance to collect money to fund their lavish lifestyles.

Without getting the basics right Nigerians have no cause to applaud any of these stories. I could vividly remember all that was trumpeted about the LNG projects during the Babangida era and how it was finally going to trigger an industry led revolution and prosperity for decades to come.

Fast forward thirty five years and gas is unreliable and unaffordable for the vast majority of Nigerians and the vauted benefits to the economy has seen Nigerians poorer today than in 1990.

Today government is telling us to buy crude at international prices to refine locally. Tomorrow we will struggle with Europe to pay for our own gas while we have a zero say on what or how the revenues are spent.

If the natural resources of Nigeria has directly benefitted you, raise you hand for a head count.....

When democracy does not work the people beg government to save them from government. Do you beg a person you employ.

Nigerians will never learn. They continue to elect people they cannot control.

Just as a successful business cannot be run by the friends and family you cannot sack so a successful government cannot be run by electing people you love, fear and respect.

Governments in sane societies cannot try this or be gone in an instant.

Nigerians must erase the feudal mindset and sentiments and adopt the working knowledge of democracy which holds public officials to extremely tight standards and has zero tolerance for maladministration.
Politics › Re: Nigeria’s Growth Rate Too Slow For $1 Trillion Economy - World Bank by Reference(m): 7:49am On May 13, 2025
The government just doesn't know how to seed and stimulate the kind of entreprises that creates jobs and sustains income.

Nigeria's economy is essentially one of procurement and contracting. The British know this as a 'Tax and Spend' economy.

Very little exists outside government's expenditure. For those in government this is good since the control of the kitchen will bring in the hungry to subjection.

But to prosper this model cannot deliver. And this is why it is important for Nigerians to elect leadership that thinks outside the box, leadership that is alien to the present system.

No country truly prospers with government as the biggest player. Without restructuring the one trillion dollar economy is just pie in the sky.

Hahahahahaha, endrick own don finish be that, the same coach when dey bench am for club football don switch to him national team to continue the benching.
This move is not a god move for Brazilian football at all, ancelotti is a rigid coach and I doubt if he can play the "flair" football that Brazilians want and deserve, this man was totally humiliated this season and Brazil that is also facing serious humiliation of its own have decided to appoint him,I pity for them.
Brazil is struggling to place it's footballing identity. The bulk of their players lose that 'flair' in order to prosper in Europe and though their basic skills are in high demand the coaches in Europe, the Jose's, the Pep's of the world end up changing this DNA and it affects the national team.

In appointing Carlo I think they have given up and given in to the European style of the game. I don't think they are out of the woods yet. Because it will be extremely difficult to beat the Europeans at their game.

Nice one. Brazil deserves another world cup trophy, they've been out in the world cup wilderness since 2002, the Selecao needs to rejig our minds on why they are the most successful and feared national team on the planet.

Go Carlo, I'm rooting for you to win big as always.
The decline of Brazilian football coincides with the decline of their footballing identity caused by the excessive quest for foreign careers by their players.

Brazil has a unique soccer DNA unlike what is played in Europe and the rest of the world, a DNA of ultra self expressionism that always appears contrary to the logic of the game which is essentially after great team play and tactics.

That is why it has become near impossible for Brazil to win anything on the field and their highly skilled footballers to win best player awards on the global stage. The world just does not recognize their style of play.

Now to have a foreigner in charge means they have recognized this and are charting a path further away from their roots but coming to the reality as well that they have to play the way the rest of the world does to win things.

What is the purpose of Democracy if the standard of living for the people is poor?
Freedom of speech does not put food on the table
Who's responsibility is it to make any system work. Is it not the operators. Democracy does not work in Nigeria because Nigerians are unable to work it.

The difference between democracy and autocracy is one of one man's decisions versus the collective decisions of the citizens which is better.

And when democracy fails or underperforms it simply means the people cannot rise to take quality collective deciions. This is an indictment of the citizens not the system.

Are Africans different from other people's of the world. That have to be led like sheep or driven like cattle without the ability of self thoughts.

So Nigerians are not capable of working together to put food on their table....Kai.

Given that the price of crude oil has been averaging around $65 or less per barrel for nearly a month, I would have expected petrol price to fall significantly more than it has done.

If petrol price can't go to around N750 when crude oil price has fallen so much, that's a bad sign.

It means petrol price in this country will probably not fall to N700 for several years to come.
We are yet to have the tools to do what you expect. This is the simple reason why commodity markets and exchanges exist abroad. To take the pricing decisions out of the hands of producers and/or consumers in finding a relatively stable, predictable template anyone can access.

And not only for petroleum products but agricultural products, mining and some categories of industrial products.

Where there is a market there are opportunities for people to speculate, hedge and stock, all these leading to a more stability for both producers and consumers, a more predictable state of affairs.

Not interested in any tax bill. A bill that doesn't promote accountability and probity amongst those that collect and spend public monies is useless to the nation.

However the State police matter is crucial and this devolution will give governors the legal tools with which to secure their domains in deed.. With that they will be held accountable for safety of lives and the security of properties.

Now the quality of their leadership will be seriously tested and whoever fails will have laid waste to the economy of his state and stamped poverty to the inhabitants.
