Climate change.... pollution..... man's inhumanity to the planet. In those days a simple intercity drive and your windshield and headlamps will get badly scarred with the guts of dead insects. These days, drive from coast to Sahel and all your car will pick up is mud and dust from crumbing roads. |
There has been a rail line to Ibadan for a few years now. Why can stockyards be built at Ibadan and the Ore spur such that inland bound containers can proceed by road from those places until a proper national rail netwtk is established. It will be a lot more profitable and strategic than passenger carrying railways alone. |
Source of energy? |
omoredia:Na so. I used to say on this forum that Nigerians generally cannot relate their electoral choices to their democratic experiences. These days I simply don't bother. |
omoredia:Don't go there abeg... ![]() |
How do judges 'take orders' from governors whether appointed or elected at any level. I thought the Judiciary was by the Constitution an independent arm of government. The wording 'take orders' is so debasing and must be left to the business of suya grilling or pizza baking, not to the business of governance where independence for the sake of democracy is sacrosanct. |
Fiscus105:He is asking the people to take care of themselves by themselves aka State and Local government security..... just that we can't smell the coffee. Isn't it clear to the blind and audible to the deaf that the Federal government cannot police all Nigeria. And just as they surrendered sole proprietorship of tertiary education in Nigeria decades ago so they will eventually surrender sole ownership of security and the judiciary. Just that it will cost hundreds, if not thousands of more lives before my fellow citizens give up barking up the wrong tree. |
Love800:By what law do vigilantes operate. By what rules of engagement can they suppress criminality. The very people that want you to retain only 'vigilantes' and other kindergarten outfits saying all sorts of rubbish and scare tactics about politicians hijacking proper policing and security outfits for political ends are the very people behind these acts genocides. Establish proper POLICE agencies at all government levels. Train them, equip them, arm them and make them SWEAR to uphold the Constitution of the country and the Laws of the State or LGA's they serve. Then they can successfully apprehend, investigate and prosecute. Only then will the Uromi type misadventure be avoided and the Judiciary will have respect for their acts. Only then will they be able to interface with Federal police for crossboarder crimes and with Interpol for international criminal networks. The work of policing is not limited to guard duties or apprehensions alone but to investigate to find out 'how', 'who', and 'why. To know the 'truth' behind incidents and to bring closure to affected victims. And I am sure the suffering peoples of these ravaged territories will dearly need to know, have closure and experience justice. Vigilantes simply cannot offer that service. To combat crime you need serious outfits that are seriously structured. Anything else is just playing around with life and death. That tens of thousands wil have to die before we realize this is just unfortunate. 2027 is coming. Any presidential candidate that is not prepared to push for the delineation of police powers and franchises to states and local governments SHOULD not be elected |
Will the man in Alaska depend on the DHS for security. Will the man in sunny and sandy Hawaii depend on the FBI if his home is invaded. Even in Washington DC, 911 will bring nothing more than the local police even though Federal agencies abound in that city. Structure is everything. All crime is local and all criminality is conducted within a sphere of a 3 to 6 minute police response time in sane societies. Nigerians will continue to die in large numbers until they start to think and begin to demand that the security services they deserve MUST be founded locally. |
The world has come to know and accept our feudal nature. Hundreds of years ago the Portuguese stood on the shores of the Atlantic and handed over trinkets in a similar manner in exchange for slaves. The world has since moved on but the DNA of the negro had refused to evolve. It is equally amusing to ever think of an African sitting in his business premises in Newyork and handing over wads of cash to NYPD officers for a job well done. Exactly what will the thoughts be of anyone witnessing such. |
Crazy contraption but to those stating different meals cook at different rates as a problem have either never worked in a kitchen or multi-tasked. The simple logic is that you start with whatever takes longer to end up somewhere about the same point. However the laws of thermodynamics will ensure that the 'partitioned pot' breaks down after a while. |
nairalanda1:Land is not an issue in Nigeria. There are vast areas particularly in the far north that are not arable due to desertification. All.you need to generate 1 megawatt is 5 acres. To reproduce the entire current capacity of all thermal plants at 5,000 megawatts you need just 25,000 acres or 100 square kilometres i.e an area of 10 by 10 kilometres. There are many exclusive zones or areas larger than this in Nigeria presently. To dedicate this to power alone will not be a problem whatsoever. The great thing about this is that pumping 5000 mw into the grid during the day will give the thermal plants much needed rest for overnight operations. To achieve this is equally simple. Partner with top solar system manufacturers and make them establish industrial operations right there on the proposed site. 4 trillion will go a massive way in achieving this. |
There is absolutely nothing in this United team that resembles a once great team. Every department is just mediocre. Just a name plate club. |
owobokiri:I don't think the argument of the superiority of political power over economic power is a correct one. Neither do I think it is a 'chicken or egg, what came first' one. You certainly cannot try to build one before and over the other. They are both sides of a coin in my opinion. |
dederocs:If there is a proper structure the governor will have no powers whatsoever to do that. The police will arrest and prosecute and the judge will sentence. The reason why he is doing all these is because the present system is overwhelmed and they donot know what to do with the hoardes of captives. And the system is overwhelmed because there is no clear policing structure. |
Civilian gtf, hunters, vigilantes....what is all this rubbish. Why not just have a simple police service structure at state, local government and ward level. A service that is trained, equiped and accountable by the swearing of oath to the law. All these patch, patch security strategies and ramshackle outfits are not it and cannot work. You need a proper structure that is identifiable, operable and extendable. With a proper policing structure you can get funding, equipment and logistics assistance from international bodies and credible intel from foreign governments and global security bodies like Interpol. Who will want to deal with or partner 'hunters' or so called vigilantes particularly after the Uromi saga. Structure is EVERYTHING. I repeat again. 200 years ago in America bandits ruled the west until the people began to structure their security appointing sheriffs and judges at the grassroots level and it was that effectiveness that gave them national recognition and acceptance. Today in the US, the State of California alone has more policemen than the United States Federal government. Security is local. Structure is everything. PS. And if you are busy 'equiping' the so called federal police and 'supporting' the national armed forces why can't you have one of your own to deal with YOUR problems. |
Subjective question who's answer will produce unending arguments. An elephant so large it's description dependent on orientation and perspective. The truth lies somewhere in democratic practices at its finest. |
malali:And 'China' will not 'buy' if it cannot sell because their main customer is saying enough is enough. And what I am saying is that even if Trump agrees to go back to the status quo on tariffs the message is already out there that a good number of Americans feel cheated and may not play ball anymore. That uncertainty is what will lead to a recession. |
InvertedHammer:I doubt that. Projections are rife of a looming global economic recession even if the wars end just as suddenly as they started. The reason being that the tariff wars are about the fundamental structure of the global economy today which essentially rides on American consumerism, the American economy and more precisely the phantom of the elastic appetite for American debt. And as long as China refuses to take on that role of an equal partner in liberal consumption and debt then table agreements will not return the global economy to the status quo. The truth is that the Trump government has opened the eyes of the world and of Americans to what it feels are unfair trade practices and many will not return to the party in the long term, simple, even if a new government is elected tomorrow. Every global economic gear shift comes with a temporary loss of power. The big unknown around the coming recession will be for how long. The trade war may be Trump initiated and led but the issues are real and fundamental and few have been able to answer the simple question. Where is America getting all the money to buy from the rest of the world when it is earning less and less due to unfair trade. |
Atarakpa:Drilling I suppose. But you don't need to tell production companies. They know at what price to cut back. And no host government can force them to run their operations at a loss. |
malali:No comment. Anything said is just a repetition of things said over and over and over for years and years. Nigeria is a nation that just cannot solve any, not one if it's fundamental problems. |
The basic design of contemporary rotary wing aircraft has not changed in over eighty years and to think that the world continues to tolerate a dated design having zero redundancy on the main flight and stability provider is just baffling particularly with the emergence of drone technology and the obvious superiority of the quad or other multi-blade aircraft. Having four, five, six ,seven over just one or two rotors is not rocket science, it is common sense. |
Without restructuring, just forget about this country. 1000 years from now these are the issues this sorry country will continue to struggle with. |
CaptainFM1:Ask me again... |
In the just ended heatwave a bottle of ice cold water was always a feature of my cup holders. Such stupid laws don't apply to me. Why don't they just ban the importation of automobiles with damn cupholders. Stupid law. |
Goalnaldo:Hmm, not sure the jury has returned a verdict on that one. |
cococandy:And to prevent them from being sold on supermarket shelves. How on earth is this even possible in the first place. |
Crust. It forms part of the harder outer shell. Because not every bread is baked with a flat end. Some are pointy, while some are rounded like tennis balls with no ends at all. |
....'enter an airplane'.... Why not say, ' travel by air'. Sounds a lot better if that is what happened. |
The whole thing sounds like the Sicilian mafia or the American mobsters of the late century, with all the saloon shootouts, horse heads in bed and sniped off 'snitchy' tongues in the post. Hope we won't begin to witness car bombs before the authorities decide the NURTW is a threat to public peace and label them a criminal organization. |
Watched a good part of the match but the lad was not in good form all the minutes he played, hanging onto the ball unnecessarily, no impetus, no drive.... nothing. I think the whole team is in a 'we play bad to sack our coach' mode because the cliff drop of form is just baffling.... a completely unrecognizable performance from last year. If I may hazard a guess there may be a lot of behind the scenes abuse by the coach towards the team and they are out to get him. |
Starboytwo:Hmmm.....perhaps solve the problem of darkness first. After all that was God's first solution..... 'let there be light' This present unrelenting heat and humidity wave has got me thinking day and night about how to model a climate control device that would take a fraction of the energy of air conditioners because the electricity consumption these days is off the charts. |
