That was one of the most silly and uncharitable things a leader can ever do. He wants to be visible. To tower above his people like a Lord and address then like a head master instead of going into the crowds to hug the bereaved and pat the backs of the brave. What a shame. We either rid ourselves of this feudal system we operate and practice true democracy or by grounded in hopelessness. I won't even talk about the leader whose bus stop was the airport. Just poor quality leadership everywhere. Well, campaign season will soon be at hand. Let me see if they will occupy airport tarmacs for their rallies. |
fergie001:I think a better outcome to this is Nigerians demand that the powers to appoint the country's electoral chair be removed from the President(cy). It is simply not just and totally absurd for one of the participants in any contest upon the face of this earth and in any walk if life be responsible for appointing the umpire. Let this government and it's supporters realize this. Down the line this lapse that has been magnified to crude injustice by this government will be exploited in exactly the same way as today but the difference will be that the boot will be on the other foot. And there will be no one to save the country.then |
Josepholome:Thank you sir from speaking up. More and more people should focus on the quality of the league rather than merely the success of the teams or the accolades of the players. No fan of the game wants to see a trophy given to a team for not playing a single match all season because every other team was disqualified. No sponsor will continue with that sort of arrangement. Nigeria is far bigger than the Lagos type of autocracy. It will not work at the centre. |
Reforms that only the citizens participate in and not the leadership and government as a whole. Reforms that do not affect the way government does its business or the size of its dinner plate. Reforms that do not tame the hordes of contractors that flood Abuja every year to carry a pencil from a shop floor to a government store at twice the price. Reforms that do not make the government do the simple task of paying it's electricity bills but seeks to run down the energy sector the way it is running the railways into the ground and has destroyed every single business venture or enterprise it has solely managed. I can go on and on and on. Very lopsided, biased, do as I say attitude that will get this country going nowhere. |
It is the planned Mars mission that is scary. I don't think anyone will come back from that. Far too many things can go wrong |
Is this war still on.... What a pity. At the end it will amount to nothing. Nothing will be gained just destruction and death. |
fergie001:That was just what I was saying a minute ago. 30 years after, the democracy fighter has turned full circle and become tenaciously anti democratic. The person who was chased around the world is now the hunter. The one that stood firm against khaki sleeves and jackboots is today deploying them to the offices of the election ombudsman. How has the mighty fallen. What a sad end to a great run and the destruction of a legacy. |
The desperation to retain power by all means is real. Thought they said there was no hunger and that food has become affordable. So why this. What they deny is public they admit in privacy and then conjure ways to exploit it. Desperation. |
Sheuns:Ask me oh....this funny country. The President's stock value continues to slide. Headed for tyranny. But whoever thought this man will go down like this. Such a pity....ex-NADECO....?? Thirty years later bringing soldiers to quell protests against anti democratic slide. |
Just one government economic policy cough can either make them rich overnight or poor overnight. |
Well it is up to government to conduct a free, fair and credible election. If they do it will be to their credit as having grown and deepened democracy. If they cannot then it will be their loss that during their time the democratic process stumbled And just as about every interview IBB grants the million dollar question is asked, 'what happened during June 12', so Mr. President will be asked about February 27 in every interview for years after the fact. And he will have to stomach the irk and swallow the bile and write countless books in distress to explain what happened and wished it could change, knowing that none of the great things he had done will be remembered, just that. That is the cross leadership will have to carry when they get to choose the path of righteousness or infamy. Yakubu has sealed his fate. Amupitan is toying with his... So long. Shey the black man is blessed with foresight. Spare a thought for President Jonathan. Upon all his faults, his legacy ended a net positive and today he can go anywhere and say anything. Just because HE CHOSE to do the right thing at the very, very, very last minute. |
HonNL:Honestly, this is nothing but the truth. This country cannot grow, cannot develop if it's control panel, democracy is broken. Simply let the people decide for themselves. You are President and part of your responsibility is to grow democracy. To leave the country in a better place than where you met it. And just as you cannot run a successful restaurant if you serve only one type of meal, you cannot have a virile democracy with no viable opposition of other parties to vote for. That is not the business of democracy, it is imprisonment. Mr. Tinubu, let the people of this country choose who they want to lead them. You don't know it all, you cannot do it all and your legacy is reduced to ashes everyday you go down this path. Your anti democratic leanings will be what Nigerians will remember you for in years to come. Every other achievement will pale into insignificance. Doubt that. Just ask IBB. Did a lot of good things no one remembers today. His legacy was his anti democratic stance. Little else anyone can remember. Do you choose to go down that lane, Mr. President. |
Raphwell:We need the kind of cultural revolution that happened in China. Rid ourselves feudalism first. Without a heart for enterprise and aspiration we remain spectators. America is a country of great rules, law and order. But it is also a great country of bound breakers. Those willing to risk it all. To climb Mount Everest, 'just because it is there'. |
When you look at the enormous streak of flames coming out of that massive, massive rocket and realise 4 people are seated and strapped in near the very top, their lives hanging in the hands of a launch computer you just marvel. Anything goes wrong and you bury a ceremonial empty coffin. Now that takes guts. |
Franking:Drones can be useful but they are not cost effective. It is not as if crimes are committed in pre planned places and times so you know when and where to place your drones. The best weapon against crime is communication both as infrastructure and as a culture. The deadliest forms of crime are interpersonal in which both the victim and/or witness can or should be able to communicate immediately and get a quick response. It is when these are in place technology like drones and capacity like roving patrols and quick response teams can be effective. Communication to report emergencies and inhouse communication amongst security units and agents is critical. That is where the state should put it's money first. Aim for a response time of 5 minutes within the state capital and fifteen minutes in rural areas. That should be the kind of target the architects should strive for. |
There is also the other side of security as you prepare to domesticate security.whenever the Federal government makes it lawful. Communication and intelligence. Build and operations centre and equip it with dedicated statewide radio communications and direction to operation units, and a dedicated emergency response number open to the public. Start to framework crises reporting mechanisms, incident coverage and response times. Start to build and equip crime laboratories, analytical capacity, engage criminologists, psychologists and all the professionals you can lawfully tap. Prepare everything you are legally permitted to because the way insecurity is going it is only a matter of time before the Federal government admits it cannot do it alone. When that collapse eventually happens one thing you don't want is a lacuna. |
The removal of subsidy was meant to free up resources for government to invest instead of the bulk of it lost to individuals. That is the fundamental principle. Just like taxation gathers from people to focus financial energy to critical aspects of development. The problem then becomes how does government spend this money (not used to subsidize various things, how does government spend your tax naira) and this is where the problem lies. The Nigerian government has a spending problem, a bad spending habit rooted in decades of ignorance, waste and a corruption culture. And this is exactly why 3 years after, there is nothing visible to metric the subsidy removal. Ignorance. Everywhere in the world energy prices are one of the primary modulators of inflation. Here there was no preset plan on how to tackle inflation that should have preceded by days or weeks, months or years of the subsidy removal. Post subsidy removal government being the largest spenders thus the largest contributors to inflation has not reformed itself in structure or reformed it's ways in administration or operations. You will expect government to have shrunk in size, shrunk in it's own costs by spending efficiency and reformed it's culture of contracting it's services out at a premium. The watchword of this administration should have been "more for less', direct labour in everything except highly specialized goods and services not available in Nigeria. Second, and to keep my take short. The immediate investment of subsidy savings should have gone back towards the sector from which it was taken. You don't raise chickens and spend the bulk of your profits planting ginger. You stabilize, enhance and boost the established value chain. That is your security. Nigeria has completely abandoned investment in that sector. There years after no other refinery of note is producing to compete, stabilize, enhance or boost the industry/market. The war abroad has further exposed this lapse and has accounted for the extra 300 naira or so on top. Stop here for now. Spending, spending, spending. This is the problem Nigerians must sort out and get involved in. It cannot be left to politicians alone how and on what the resources of this country is deployed. I made a simple analogy a couple of days ago. The fifteen trillion naira to be spent on new highways can procure 63 gigawatts of green energy, that is increasing our power output 12 times and by a simple Google search, 12 times the power output will increase our GDP by a factor of 3. Can those two highways do that. No. Spending, spending, spending. That is the problem. We are dirt poor as a nation be cause we spend like poor people do. |
Can you see what is happening. Politics without principles, without ideology, without integrity can never deliver good governance. Look at what politics did to General Gaskiya...rubbished his legacy... because he felt he HAD TO BE President. Mr Obi is going down a rabbit hole and everything he stands for WILL BE LOST. Democracy will always be about the people. If the people cannot resolve of themselves to accept you for who you are then leave and find something else to do. There is no reason whatsoever to associate with people of questionable character thought more of people under criminal investigation for gross corruption. Kai. And this defence he is putting up is just terrible, so outlandish, so ridiculous....just sad. And that is why personally, I cannot never vouch for anyone to be anything or do anything as far as politics is concerned. Political personalities are the riskiest people in the world to tie your reputation to. I will be the last person in Nigeria to follow after anyone of them. |
This is a very, wey, very dangerous period. Th advise is clear. Be on guard. Avoid public places to the best of your ability. Those seeking to kil Christians will capitalize on any lapses. |
worldbestnigga:Took the words out of my mouth. Hilarious anytime. If Nigerians vote wrong again, the next photo op will be in an asylum.... ![]() |
Andrelade:If they (whoever you think they are), are sponsoring insecurity, why not you guys SPONSOR SECURITY. Sponsor a Bill to address it. You guys are masters of political tactics. Lend a hand to the security sector please. Formulate strategies for capturing these criminals as governors and senators and reps have been captured. We have given all the suggestions we can for almost twenty years on this matter and others that impinge on the security and stability of this country but it appears to no avail. No one listens to the people. Government does what it wants and in its own interest so it must be blamed. My keyword of the week is townhall. Sit down with the people. Listen to them. Interact with them and you will find solutions. Let democracy work. Governance is easy. |
amaridigital:Maybe by 2030 it should be ten thousand naira a litre by your drift. To see your country progressively deteriorate with escalating poverty and excuse it is a waste of citizenship. No offense but you need to to begin to think of the future and what kind of country you and I will leave for those after us. This bad state of the country should be unacceptable to all. |
Shey I told you folks. Revenue, earnings is not the problem. It is spending. Borrow all you like, tax all you like, cause world war 4 so that oil sells for 1 million dollars a barrel. If it is still put in the wicket basket called the Nigeria budget where three quarters go to recurrent expenditure and capital votes buy white elephants then nothing, absolutely NOTHING will change. This is more than a month of war, more than a month of elevated oil prices. Let us see what changes in Nigeria...my guess, practically nothing. The ECA the governors went to court to force Madam Ngozi and Mr. Jonathan to release to them, what happened. Today they are being accused of not being able to pay salaries back then. The subsidy money Mr. Tinubu is giving them today. Are they able to stay out of debt....no. Today the Legislature gave approval for more loans (in the midst of an oil windfall oh) and amongst other reasons (in small print), to REFINANCE (obviously previous loans). What is happening to the nations finances, Mr. President. What is happening..... |
But before paying, do your due diligence. Ask around the neighborhood or if you can't, look at the houses around for water damage. Those stains on the walls of buildings and fences that shows the level where water regularly reaches (and stays a while,). Also look at you topography. Do not take a property or land near the bottom of a hill. If the buildings around you are higher than yours, that is serious trouble even with the best drainage system. At best your frontage will become a refuse dump when the rain starts. Also I once was offered an estate land in Abuja to buy and on visit I noticed it was quite flat. The problem was that it bordered a canal with very little elevation from it. Promptly walked away. To me they were selling a flood plain. PS: For Abuja residents. All these lands on hills in the Mpape and Katampe extension they are selling. You have for to be extremely careful. Insist if you can that the developers take extreme measures to terra form them properly to ensure run-off is controlled before you build. Your building foundation is just a few feet deep. That is nothing for massive rainfall to sweep away. We haven't had incidents of landslide catastrophes in this part of the world but we are inadvertently setting ourselves up in years to come. |
....Those things were invented by folks who drank tea and ate fish sandwiches not for those who cannot do without heavy wraps of swallow... |
SpatialKing:Just say for now. You will be surprised what robotics is already doing in surgical theatres and on construction sites and will be doing in a few years to come. My friend, nothing is safe out there except a nation deliberately legislates so. Then prepares to step off the development train. Elon is already about to make the next giant leap in technology. The fusion of AI and robotics. It will be a total game changer in everything from fighting wars, mining in inhospitable environments to film making and sports coaching. I saw a piece on workers in a factory made to wear body suits with markers to track their biometric movements and I said. By next year robots will be doing exactly those jobs. |
Treadway:Musk has said it. With AI and robotics, in future man will not need to work to survive...except to satisfy your greed (that's my addition) AI to think for you, robotics to do for you. Why work..?? ![]() |
joyd200:A gun shot to the head. Never seen such mass suicide since Jamestown and Jim Jones. If it was Nigeria Festus and Joe will be going nuts. |
mecuries:Your guess is as good as mine. If it was about money by now it will be done and dusted, collected and handed over to contractors to fritter away. |
SixSeven:Shows that as a people we are doomed to repeat our failings. Will not be surprised that in another decade another leader will embark on a failed mission to Brazil, return with nothing, peddle false claims and all in the midst of carnage back at home. |
LordBiden:15 trillion is the cost of the coastal road. So take your pick as to which is preferred, purposeful and a priority. Citizens don't have their say in Nigeria as to how their money is spent, period. Whatever interests government, the money will be raised. Governance is easy. Just townhall and ask your citizens for direction and your tenure will be an absolute success. PS: Just did a Google intel search and it is mind boggling. Do you know how much 15 trillion in solar panels will get you: 63.5 gigawatts of power a whooping 12 times the current grid capacity. And this could potentially triple the size of the Nigerian economy it says Are these not the kind of debates we should be having in town-halls and in the halls of the National Assembly as to how our money is spent IF WE HAD A WORKING DEMOCRACY. |
WizardOfNG:So the Federal government gave all the money to states, retained nothing for itself such that it has to borrow to do it's mandate....how does that sound. And by the way have the states stopped borrowing too...now they are awash with Federal funds. |
