kripen:While the Bill or is report or post-a-note concerning security was given to the deputy senate president to fan himself with whenever power goes off in his office. Our priorities in this country has always been money so we excel at failing in just about every other thing. It is clear this democracy is not about the people and their priorities. If you ask them in a straw poll what they want worked on as a pressing priority, what they can stomach money borrowed for, the rehabilitation or expansion of ports will get only the votes of contractors. PS...and the little detail almost missed. Not a financial guru. But is refinancing not borrowing from Peter to pay Paul...hmmm... |
gare:Very, very clear. Loans are not productive income so they are primary fuel for inflation and when you borrow to do things that cannot ROI you suffer both inflation and economic strangulation. |
Na dat wan dem like. So called key projects or should I say more money for contractor friends and associates. Where is the Bill for the formation of State police to save lives and stop the carnage. Dancing round the bureaucracy. Let us see which one will come through first, money or security. |
Oyindamolah:Yes, we understand the story. It is always someone else. But what Mr. Suleiman is saying and the majority of well meaning Nigerians are saying and asking. Where is leadership. And by leadership I mean the person in charge of ALL security services and the COMMANDER IN CHIEF. You say it is his RIGHT to appoint their heads, so it is his responsibility to address their performance. When you arrogate to yourself the rights and privileges of the HOS in a centrally governed country such as this you bear ultimate responsibility. If you cannot do it, (and I am of this school that it is a job too big and too complex for one man to do) then franchise, delegate, license, charter, permit, the creation of multilayered security networks to the sub-nationals so that.you can rest easy and problems can be tackled at source. And now this is where my own conspiracy theory comes in. For three years this government has been stalling, delaying, pussyfooting, playful about this critical reform, why. Is it that those behind these incidents are opposed to it. Do they have agents in government delaying it, discouraging it. Is the present security structure to their liking and is the surge of insecurity a last rush to do as much damage before the people are empowered by law to defend themselves. Whatever the case it was not a good sight to have seen a matter of great urgency and worth given to the IG of police to quarterback and the first report handed to the deputy senate president like some unimportant issue. Like I always say, how many more lives will be lost before the people of Nigeria stand up and demand for a radical change in the way this country is governed and demand for the security of THEIR own working for them. |
jchioma:The police have no stake in that community that's why. I keep on telling you guys. Security is local, domesticated at the point of the crime. If the policemen were from that town, that community and they were living down the streets and everyone knew them by name, knew which markets their wives shopped and where their children schooled and which place of worship the family attended they will certainly not run. Run to where as stakeholders and defenders of their communities indeed. Look folks. There is NO substitute for local government and state police. It is clear to the blind and audible to the deaf that this system we practice is just not fit for purpose. It expired the day we declared our independence from Britain. The system we practice was enough to run the colonial administration and keep the people in line under central authority. The years of escalating poverty induced criminality saturating the land and growing extremism popping up in every corner has exposed the system as grossly inadequate. |
Good one. Now get the administration, the operations and the maintenance right so that no governor ever has to come here again for this in the future. |
Kastonkastroll:Hmmm....should be the other way round mate. It is him that should be standing in the rain and they speaking while he listens and take a notes. That is real democracy. Stop rallies and do town-halls instead and all other things shall be added unti thee. |
See as my fellow citizens yapping in glee at the fact that they have no control whatsoever over their so called political leaders. The question we continue to ask.ia simple. I'd all these were the right way to go. If this type of democracy we practice is genuine. Where are the fruits. Why is this country still like this. Why is it that this system has not solved a single fundamental problem and has led us upwards and out of despair as a nation. At the start of this journey in 1999 is was about 40 percent governance and 60 percent politics. Today it is almost 100 percent politics. Practically nothing else is happening in Nigeria today. |
He will win the political vote but not the governance vote since you cannot point to anything significant that is an improvement over the previous government. When people are still talking about hope three quarters into your tenure then you have to use other means to retain power. The President knows too, and that is why he has gone about a shopping spree for vote harvesters. But when you hear defensive statements like that of Mr. Sani you sense this feeling of insecurity, and so it should be. Nothing to sell but just, 'he will win massively' rhetoric. Not a single reason to point out why. |
The best investment is back into the game. That is what you know. You don't need advisers, you don't need secretaries or book keepers. And there is a ton of things you can invest in, in sports or football for that matter from investing in yourself to run the game from the touchline to investing in others through player or club ownership/management. You earn in forex and invest to yield in naira. That will be a cultural shock to your financial system when the time comes. |
That is like 1 in 22 Nigerians. According to Google search the average person has a close relationship with up to 25 people. And this will certainly cut across the wealth demographic meaning a number will be people of modest means and eligible for this stipend. So....how many have you, yes you, heard have received government cheese. |
Now this is actually very silly. |
Once again the only value I see in all this is the emergence of a party that can shake the tree of democracy so that we can sort out the apples that fall from the rodents that spoil. Apart from that I really don't know what is happening in that group. The little I hear is similar to the crystalization of other parties in the past. Very lean on content and totally out of touch with the people. Before leaving for the field I watched SkyNews every morning in the office and remember the shaking the Green party and Reform exerted on the British political landscape and all the defections that took place had at their root a position of thought and conviction known as ideology. This fellow and that fellow leaving because of immigration, because of freezing or not of energy prices, because of the one child benefit cap, because of things that they could not achieve for their constituents while in their old party. That is purpose. That is service. Those are the things worth fighting for. Across the pond the few that jump ship is always about ideology. 'The Republicans are becoming too conservative and are being hijacked by the extreme Christian right wing or the Maga movement so I am leaving' or 'the Left is leaning too heavily on propping up failed states abroad so I am joining the Republicans who place America first and shut down immigrants...' Those are causes. But here the only movement is that for 'winning elections'. What becomes of Nigeria and her citizens after that is none of their business. Sorry but I cannot give a donkeys rear end for such folks. |
ruzell86:'Accepting a limit set by a fellow man...' Very deep....when you sit back and think about it....and then look around at your neighbours, relations, your co workers, your peers in places of worship....and the country over the recent years and then realize what could have been better if only they tried...to be free. |
When will the Negro organise himself into a viable, sustainable society. When!!! This is more than a decade of mass killings on the plateau (alone). Yet ten years is not enough for a solution. You are far from the so called centre, you are near the centre, you switch from one government to the other, you create new battalions and position soldiers on every compound yet. You mount a gazillion checkpoints on the streets and highways, Who or what or when can the problem be solved permanently. |
The other faction should do the nPDP shuffle and join the ADC in a 2027 coalition because the ideological differences are stark, as concerning fielding a presidential candidate come 2027. One faction wants to join the APC and refuses to present one. So the other should join the ADC for a fair balance. The ideological lines are becoming clearer as one between autocracy and democracy. That is all what the rumpus had been about from day one. |
gulfer:Na. All the chickens are comrades and are protesting the harsh economic conditions. High cost of feed leading wide spread malnutrition (heard some chickens are now eating styrofoam like say dem wan lay plastic egg). Excessive heat caused by power failure so they have to roam about to get breeze but that leads to insecurity as some people that no longer have leftover to feed their pet dogs have turned them to fowl bandits. |
Emzedz:Naso. Make we die of beri-beri abi.... ![]() |
wayodude:Absolutely. They say democracy is by, for and about the people everywhere....except in Nigeria where they willingly capitulate and bow to tin gods as captured souls. That is why they can be mis-governed anyhow without a whimper. That is why the gap between the leaders and led continues to widen. But just as we look back and blamed the white man for the slave trade of the 1800's so our descendants decades to come will blame today's political slave masters for capturing the people wholesale. But me, I will speak out of the grave and say no one is enslaved except they agree to it. If this feudal system we boast about, justify, excuse, support, explain.ia that good, right and proper. Why has it not made this country great after a quarter of a century of 5th Republic democracy. |
Feudal system at play. That is the crucible where godfatherism is conjured. The personalisation of people. The conquest of their souls. |
In the 1800 the people faced such onslaught from criminal elements and sis they run away, no. The gathered together and formed the Texas Rangers. Starting as a group of a dozen or so men. Today it is the part basis of the county policing system however they remain an independent agency. Their counterparts in Nigeria rather run away from their communities and ancestral lands to be taken over by these land pirates. Communities that have both serving and likely retired military, paramilitary police men. Personnel that can form the kernel of a solid internal security organisation serving those communities. What a pity. |
Mr. Wike. There is freedom of association in our constitution. Just as you have freely decided to support the ruling APC, others have freely chosen to oppose it. There lies the split. You cannot force everyone to follow your path. They are not your children Mr. Schoolmaster who is always right and everyone else wrong. |
Football governing bodies are closer to cartels and cults rather than upstanding institutions. You just don't know how they are set up, how they recruit members and how the ladder of accession works. For heaven's sake where did this guy come from....son of a person banned for corruption representing who.....Nigeria. No abeg. He is representing himself. Time has come for this country to look inwards and start the process of interrogating how our sports sector works. How it is constituted, administered and operated. How the leadership recruitment process can reflect true competence and probity. Don't wish anyone ill luck but if an apple does not fall far from a tree it means a tree indeed can make a forest of scandals shortly. Nuff said. |
Good gesture this is. Hope it gives a bit of comfort to the bereaved in addition to their statutory entitlements. The government can institute some kind of welfare trust scheme open to the public and corporate organisations willing to make donations of any and every kind towards this noble but unprecidented crusade against extremist violence in this country. It has gone on too long and has cost far too much to many. |
Onucs:Well he didn't live to tell the story. |
puremaker7:Everyone involved was culpable. But in my opinion the tower crew and airport management should have been held ultimately responsible. They should never in their lives have given permission to the PANAM jet to start engines not to talk of taxing in those conditions. Your airport is tiny, no ground radar and you depend on physical visibility, clear sight lines to navigate aircraft through dense fog, while depending on radio communications with aircrews that could not even see the taxiway markings and signposts....That is criminal neglect. It is like a bustling restaurant that sells hot steamy soup, blindfolding its waiters and expects nothing other than lawsuits. The tower is the ultimate gatekeeper of the airport and valet to departing and arriving aircraft. No pilot can even start his engines without express permission. |
ogelekpomgam:Except to His Majesty's taxman... ![]() |
Yep. No biggie. Mum did the same thing all those years ago. Dad was out of town when it happened. Told me and elder sis to pack the things into her Beetle and off we went for number 3. Dad arrived later that night to take us home. A couple of visits later and she was back home. Good health, preparation and a bit of experience counts. Can't remember any stress on her part on the way but she was always a crazy driver through Lagos traffic. |
Hmmm...what can I say... There is something not very right about this... particularly in church. Just hope and pray for the best for all involved. |
Sonnobax15:How all these things don't irritate the ordinary man baffles me honestly. What do you stand for, what is your philosophy, your ideology, your great and mighty vision... outside elections. What does the ordinary man stand to gain after you have won the election.....nothing..... But like I said earlier, we are only thankful that there maybe a semblance of competition for votes and not a procession to the throne room for a coronation come May 2027. Now do we expect the ruling party to respond to these threats by upping qualitative governance. Are they going to begin to listen to the masses and woo them by making their lives safer, better, more prosperous.... This is the essence of virile multiparty politics. Leaders on their toes and FEARING a fall from power if they do not satisfy the people that elect them. Or will the response as expected be the intensified session of underhand tactics of blackmail, bribery, coercion and all manner of political skullduggery....watching to see. |
mctech:When will it be the people's choice and not that of Mr. Tinubu. When will that Barack Obama kind of politician arise out of left field and sweep into office with new ideas and direction. When will the people be able to say, that man or woman is our choice so will obey us and implement our interests only while in office....Abi, this is not possible in the largest state of the largest black nation on earth. |
