mctech:When will it be the people's choice and not that of Mr. Tinubu. When will that Barack Obama kind of politician arise out of left field and sweep into office with new ideas and direction. When will the people be able to say, that man or woman is our choice so will obey us and implement our interests only while in office....Abi, this is not possible in the largest state of the largest black nation on earth. |
Well as long as the people are not allowed to run for Governor and vote for their choice, the course of Lagos state is predictable. Nothing can happen for better or worse. |
epainos:Only if he can 'manipulate' the country out of the daunting challenges it faces. All the virtual that lies in him appear only about politics. As a country we have never had a leader this top heavy. Three years after you cannot point to a clear vision for the security of this country, no clear vision for economic prosperity, no clear path to the kind of development needed to cope with the challenges of galloping population growth. Just politics, politics and more politics. |
jodellgroup:Thank you for the facts behind the figures. These are the kind of things we should be talking about on forums, in mass media, in schools, in the national assembly so that the talk about diversifying the economy, job creation and foreign exchange earninga is more than just political slogans. It will get out youth out of the pandemic of lawlessness. It will get our businessmen out of the scourge of contracting where a bar of soap or a box of matches passes through ten hands before the public pays for it through government at ten times the true value. |
Richtaiwo:'Can'. Potential. Industrialization above all things leads the world's GDP followed by tech. The extractive industry is somewhere down the line. To desire to produce stuff by diversifying the economy for job creation and wealth creation is what this government should be focused on and you it's supporters clamouring for. |
Are they still fighting this useless and pointless war over nothing. Soon the Arab nations will be forced to act and then it will be all broken pieces and carnage everywhere. |
Happy Birthday Mr. President. 74 years is occasion for thanks and celebrations indeed. But it also almost 3 years in charge of this country. Is there occiasion for Nigerians to cheer. |
Whatever will cause a strong opposition party to emerge and ensure there is no coronation in 2027 is welcome. If practically all the progressive, positive promises the APC made before 2023 have not been realized then there is little hope the second tenure will yield anything. We already have a worked example in the Buhari regime. The second tenure was much worse than the first. That is the defensive side of things. The other side is equally worrying. If opposition politics in Nigeria is all about winning elections then democracy remains dysfunctional. It is futile replacing a malfunctioning government engine with a Frankenstein one of many obtuse and acute parts. You down any races like that and it highly likely that if they don't succeed at the polls the whole thing falls apart. We simply cannot build our democracy like this. The people must seek to build their politics based on ideology, by real visioners who have the country at heart and the people in mind. There is nothing, absolutely nothing coming out of the leading candidates in this coalition about this country and it's pathway that makes one put them together like LEGO or a jigsaw puzzle to create something visible and appreciable. |
What I don't understand is, why this has not come to the attention of government.... if it is a government that cares. Leaders of other countries and the government they administer have all come up with various strategies to help ease the pain of the worldwide disruptions on their citizens. Ours are just playing blind, deaf, acting mute and burying it's head in the sand like an ostrich. Poor quality governance. Poor leadership. |
Putindbutt:I agree with the last para. After losing out in the privatisation of telecoms, the political plague bearers vowed they will not let the power sector slip from their cold hands of death and played Goodluck Jonathan like a drum under the pretext that the sector was not attractive to foreign investment and the hullabaloo about strategic assets and national security around foreign ownership. I remember all the hot-air back then, pure lies just to corner the sector, demarket it to bargain base levels and then buy it out for peanuts. This is the result of charlatans in charge. However, it does not absolve government of exploiting the paddy-paddy arrangement by not paying it's bills. |
forgiveness:What are you saying. They say they are being owed trillions and you expect them not to collect the debt inorder to pay for feedstock, gas used to make power. They are private companies. Forget they are utilities. Government does not pay it's bills and it is affecting the rest of us that constitute the economy. Is there any government person who is not paying his mobile phone bills? Is there any government official that can drive to Dangote refinery and ask for free gasoline? Is there any government office that watches DSTv for free? with all exceptions being voluntary giftings or compliments. But why can't their offices, hospitals, schools, barracks, police stations, water works, traffic lights, etc be cut off when they cannot pay their electricity bills just like the rest of us are harassed to. They hide behind officialdom and so called essential services. It is government that is not allowing the sector to be established and grow and this is also responsible for the high cost to the paying public. We are subsidizing government. |
Is it not clear that it is government that is running down the power sector through massive debts that it cannot even estimate You and I pay our bills, we have cut down on electricity waste, optimized use through smart tech solutions, found green alternatives yet their so called Band A cannot back us up because those who waste our resources in many other ways cannot pay their bills. Now watch how they will find ways to make the public pay their electricity bills after being taxed heavily. Irresponsible people. |
YourGFsnatcher:Told you folks many, many, many, many times. Stop chasing after individuals. You don't know them. Only God can see the thoughts of their minds. Your responsibility as a citizen is towards institution building. You are a custodian, a guardian of the electoral process, the game, and as long as it is healthy, it will naturally produce performers. Just as many that vaunted Mai Gaskiya were humbled and disappointed at the streams of corruption coming out of that government, and so many are shocked that the famed 'builder of Lagos' is completely out of his depth with Nigeria, so will you be disappointed that all the starry credits given to Mr. Obi or Mr. Atiku or Mr. Sowore or whoever will likely not translate into your expectations, simply because democracy does not work that way. Democracy rather works by the interplay of political forces and the pressure they exert on themselves to perform. Without political pressure by and with citizen advocacy dividends cannot be realized. Even a donkey will eventually move when flogged enough. So a donkey can rule this country and deliver good governance. But an Einstein will not if he has no reason, no demand to. |
Apt. Just vote according to your experiences between 2023 and 2027 and you will be alright. Where you started out with this government and where you are today, by poll date next year and extrapolate to where you think you will be by 2031. This will form your decision as to whether you want to continue the upwards, sideways or downwards trajectory. In the modern world people can vote along politically ideological lines. Left/Right/Centre, Conservative/Liberal/Green, etc. We don't have such ideological positions. Our ideology here is tribe and religion. However the fact that governments out there do change shows even ideological beings reason out their situation and remove non performing governments when the need arises. We can overcome our ethno religious sentiments if we choose to. And the day THEY see that we can, they will begin to perform. That is, to do the things WE want them to rather than the things they want for themselves. |
Occurstaem:Same here. Thought it was the other, previous....was it the first incident. What is it about Tiger and SUV incidents. Can't he just do drugs in his bedroom |
oz4real83:C'mon....Tiger was already a full grown adult and super successful when his father died. Your take makes it sound as if he was some kid. The guy was already in his thirties. |
anonimi:Even if he comes before a judge someone will lecture you about plea deals and how it happens everywhere in the world for any crime under the sun. There is no 'big man' in jail today in Nigeria that has been prosecuted solely by the state. None. If the public does not vehemently protest, if a fellow big man is not hurt or it involves people in government one way or the other chances are that the big man will not even be arrested thought more of being prosecuted. |
I guess the dark character in him is determined to have the final say about his life and times. |
Obakoolex:Once again. It is not a out Obi. If the man has decided to wreck his political career what do you and I gain or lose, nothing. What is the value of a politician aspiring for leadership to me. Nothing. Zero. It is what he is capable of and how he can be managed to deliver MY INTERESTS that matter. It is about creating a system of competitive, qualitative leadership. That is the only value. And if he has decided to torpedo his candidature then simply engage another candidate. But to begin to create mini gods of people and get so enamoured by them is just setting up yourself to disappointment even if they get there. You think all these people who have carried this present government to godlike status don't know it has been a massive let down. But they cannot retreat and change course because they are either too embarrassed to admit it or long sold down the river to reconnect with their consciences. Let us focus more on how to work this democracy to move this country forward. |
All these talk up and down. Obi's candidature, success or not will not change the fortunes of a society that is not prepared to chart its course. It is not up to Obi mister. Look at yourself, look at your neighbors, look at your community, look at your state and country and see that it is about you, me, us, not someone who has decided to put himself forward for leadership. I repeat. It is not about THE PERSON. It is about the process of getting the country moving forward if you feel it is not. Vote for or against based on your situation, condition, aspirations and experience between the last time you voted and now, because where this country is headed follows the laws of physics. It will continue in it's present trajectory until acted upon by another force. That is the will to change course through the ballot. It is not about Obi. It is about you and me. |
Abeg let us spend the time and effort correcting the present in order to secure the future. The only value of the past is to learn from the errors. But even that we cannot muster. |
Not a healthcare professional but truncation of administration can never be a good thing and I just donot understand why Nigerians love it. They just love their feudalism. They want to have a single king of medical science and practice in Nigeria....and all his subjects bowing to him.... medieval thinking. While they busy bickering, AI is creeping up on them and Wil soon steal their knickers leaving them thoroughly exposed. |
MONEY247:Please, please, please don't tell me his age.... If you know, you understand... ![]() |
When Nigeria is ready to let go of north, south, east or west and go for the one person who can sort out the issues urgently then we begin to move. Until then enjoy the slide. |
mmsen:But these countries have been opening the taps of their strategic reserves to contain the shock for a while. We here that have the crude nko, even the strategic reserves that God has placed in the ground under our feet we have sold in advance and given the money to shady contractors to build white elephants, voodoo vendors to supply snake oil and consulting conjurers to hypnotize and swindle the people with all manner of schemes. By the way how is the CNG magic these vendors and fly by night consultants been peddling since 2023. Why hasn't it moved the needle of transport cost down one millimeter. |
mmsen:Okay, there you go. Subsidies, the dirty word of our present times. You said to keep these companies afloat and I will add....during pandemics, during economic super shocks, during natural disasters of all kinds. Then when the headwinds have died down and normalcy returns government comes with the bill in form of tax hikes and surcharges. That is the way to do the do. When is Africa, Nigeria going to think this way. That the economy is all about PEOPLE, not stats and graphs and even indices but people. So you do what is needful at all times to ensure jobs are secure, businesses are secure and investments are secure because they are very, very, very hard to get back when they are lost. |
Image123:Government policies and pronouncements result in the outcome of any economy anywhere in the world. That is why they are voted in and voted out. The economic decisions they take affect every citizen within their domains for good or bad. That is governance 101. I am cocksure if the economy improves, wages and earnings rise and inflation and prices fall your position about government will change. |
Pierocash:Great man of God. He had no boundaries. Impacted millions of people, north, south, east and west. Anywhere he is buried will have been befitting. Everywhere was home to him. What a life very well lived. |
He was a great servant of God. Will be sorely missed. |
dododawa1:No life does not go on. They need to explain where the remaining $36 dollars a barrel is going. They asked this question of other governments before them. They, including governors forum chair Rotimi Amaechi back then insisted the money be 'shared' to sub-nationals. Where is the $36 dollar difference. . |
And now that oil prices have seen a similar Jonathan era $100 dollar gallop, well above budget benchmarks, there is really nothing more to harangue previous administrations for. Everything they were accused off is happening again and in some cases much worse. So...what is happening to the infamous EXCESS CRUDE ACCOUNT. Oga President.... |
