A Federal High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Thursday, commenced trial on a suit filed by an APC Chieftain in Ekiti State, Mr Michael Akinleye against former Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi over his appointment as the Deputy National Chairman (South) by the party’s National Working Committee(NWC). The suit with registration number FHC/AD/C8/8/2020 filed by one of the aspirants for the seat and APC chairman in Ado Ekiti Local Government, was contending the propriety of the action taken by the APC National Working Committee’s appointment of Ajimobi via alleged imposition. Joined in the suit are: APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole(1st respondent), National Working Committee(2nd) , National Vice Chairman, South West(3rd) , APC South West Zonal Caucus(4th), Ekiti State Chairman of APC(5th, Ekiti State Caucus of APC(6th), All Progressives Congress (7th) and Senator Abiola Ajimobi(8th). The seat became vacant following the appointment of Otiba Niyi Adebayo as a Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, which brought the feeling by Ekiti APC that Senator Gbenga Aluko should be allowed to fill the vacancy in respect of the party’s micro-zoning rather than moving it to Oyo State. During yesterday’s proceeding, Oshiomhole, Ajimobi and other respondents, with the exception of 5th and 6th respondents were absent in court, but they were represented by their Lawyer, Chief Tony Adeniyi. In the originating summons filed by his lawyer, Taiwo Omidoyin, the applicant sought an interlocutory order stopping the party from either announcing or appointing Ajimobi pending the determination of the suit. He urged the court to restrain the 8th respondent (Ajimobi) from parading himself as the Deputy National Chairman. Akinleye urged the court to determine among other things whether his rights had not been abridged as an aspirant looking up to elect the Deputy National Chairman before Ajimobi was suddenly imposed. But in the preliminary objection filed by Adeniyi, who is representing all the respondents with the exemption of 5th and 6th, contended that the court lacks jurisdiction to hear the matter and that the suit be dismissed on this premise. The hearing of the preliminary objection could not be argued because the lawyer to the applicant said he had not been properly served to be able to respond appropriately. Omidoyin argued that he needed some time to file a counter affidavit to the Notice of Preliminary objection raised by the respondents . “We are seeking for time to react appropriately to all the issues raised therein . “All we are praying for is time to react appropriately . The reason why we didn’t react to them was that we were not sure about who is representing the 5th and 6th respondents/defendants in the case and now that we have got the clarification, we can now respond . “Another confusion is that, Chief Adeniyi didn’t respond to our originating summons . We are confused about the cause, maybe it was an omission or whether he was not served, he said . The counsel to the respondents didn’t object to adjournment sought by the counsel to the applicant . The presiding Judge, Justice U. N. Agoma in her brief ruling adjourned the case to March 23 for hearing of the pending applications. https://dailypost.ng/2020/03/12/federal-high-court-begins-trial-of-case-against-senator-abiola-ajimobi-by-apc-chieftain/ |
The President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, has disclosed that his principal was instrumental in influencing his godson, Governor Nasir El-Rufai, to offer appointments to the recently deposed emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, in Kaduna State. Recall that a few hours after Mr Sanusi’s dethronement on Monday, Mr El-Rufai had offered the ex-emir two appointments: as Chancellor of the Kaduna State University, KASU, as well as the deputy chairman of the board of the Kaduna State Investment Promotion Agency. On Tuesday, in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso had accused President Buhari of giving his consent to Kano State government for the deposition of Mr Sanusi. However, in a swift reaction to Mr Kwakwaso’s allegation, a presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, said: “The President does not have a history of intervening in the affairs of any state in the country, unless the issue at hand is of national consequence.” On Wednesday, another presidential aide, Mr Ahmed, took to his Twitter handle to defend his boss, saying that the President deserves commendation for ordering the governor to give the deposed emir what could be seen as a soft landing. Mr Ahmad wrote: “By the way, I am yet to see anyone praising President Muhammadu Buhari for HRH Muhammadu Sanusi’s recent appointments, “he ordered his ‘godson’ Mallam Nasir El-Rufai to make the appointments.” https://dailynigerian.com/buhari-didnt-interfere-in-dethroning-sanusi-but-directed-el-rufai-to-give-him-appointments-aide/ https://twitter.com/BashirAhmaad/status/1237886736384045056?s=19 Lalasticlala Oam4j Mynd44

Let the court to its job- Alaibe Youth members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tuesday, besieged Wadata Plaza, Abuja, national secretariat of the party, seeking among others, the expulsion of Timi Alaibe from the party. The youths under the auspices of PDP National Youth Rebirth Forum, in their numbers, displayed placards in solidarity with Governor Duoye Diri and called on the leadership of the party to save Bayelsa from Alaibe, describing him as an agent of the All Progressives Congress, APC. Alaibe, a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, is currently in court seeking the disqualification of Duoye on grounds that the primary election that produced him breached the provisions of the party’s constitution. Addressing journalists in Abuja, national president of the forum, Bonire Solomon said the case instituted by Alaibe could threaten the ongoing peace in the state chapter of PDP if not well handled. He said: “The ongoing court case if not quickly handled and decisively too, has strong potential to derail the party in Bayelsa or, God forbid, can make the party lose out entirely if not settled immediately. “We have received a very credible report that Mr Timi Alaibe who cannot in any way benefit from the current court case is all out to do the bidding of some external forces in order to underline and destroy the control of Bayelsa by PDP.” The group urged the Prince Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee, NWC to take a cue from “what recently happened in Kogi, where a party aspirant took the gubernatorial candidate to court and invalidated the candidacy of the party and render our efforts at the Kogi electoral tribunal useless, except the appeal court upturns the judgment of the High Court.” Although the group noted that the former NDDC boss may have had a solid ground to feel aggrieved, it faulted the haste with which he went to court to seek redress. Solomon continued: “We have found out that Alaibe did not exhaust the internal redress mechanism of the party as required by the constitution before preceding to court against our party and her candidate, an action the law requires punitive measures for.” The forum, therefore, demanded the immediate expulsion of Alaibe in compliance with Section 57 (3) of the PDP constitution. Reacting however to the protest, Alaibe said the judiciary should be allowed to decide the case without interference. “The court should be allowed to do its job,” he told our correspondent,” he said. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/03/pdp-youths-move-against-alaibe/amp/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter&__twitter_impression=true Lalasticlala Mynd44

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress are considering either to appoint an acting National Chairman or set up a caretaker committee to steer the affairs of the party until a national convention is held, The PUNCH has learnt. One of our correspondents gathered in Abuja on Monday that the two options are among those to be considered at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 17. A top-ranking member of the party’s NEC, who spoke to one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity said, “We are aware that there are so many vacancies in the National Working Committee and we will want to follow our constitution in filling them up.” “We are not oblivious of the schemes by those who want the status quo to remain. We are fully aware of their plans to scuttle the NEC meeting but I can assure you it will hold.” In a related development, the acting National Secretary of the party, Chief Victor Giadom, resumed work at the party’s national secretariat as he stepped into the secretariat compound at 10.55am, amidst tight security. Entering the party’s National Secretariat was strictly controlled. Security officials at the main entrance were given a list of staff and journalists who they handed out tags to before being allowed in. In another development, some APC leaders from the South-South geo-political zone have distanced themselves from reports credited to the party’s South-South National Vice-Chairman, Hilliard Eta, just as they called for immediate removal of the suspended national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole. They equally expressed support for the NEC meeting slated for March 17. The Convener of the South-South APC stakeholders, Dr Ray Murphy, and the Secretary of the forum, Dr Bruce Ugbode, said views expressed by Eta were personal because they did not represent the views of the majority. Murphy said, “Some people are saying that the entire South-South is with Oshiomhole, that is not correct. “We are not satisfied with what is going on in the last elections that we took part in. Akwa Ibom was there. Delta and Cross River states were there and many other places. We lost so many states just like Zamfara and others because of the inability of the people who run the party to carry along other people. “Primaries were shoddy. Credible people who are capable of winning elections were shut out due to shoddy primaries. “This is not a matter of 2023 as my brother Hilliard Eta has said. It is about the survival of the party. “We support the call for the NEC by the acting Secretary, Giadom, because that is the only way we can give opportunity to the party to regain itself. “Since our brother (Oshiomhole) took over from our elder brother, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, it has been topsy-turvy; one crisis after another generated by the simple inability to run a party with tact. “It is not a pugilistic activity to be national chairman of a political party and we are extremely dissatisfied with the way he has carried on in the last two years since he became our national chairman and we lend ourselves seriously with the activities of those who suspended him right from his ward because he has not been carrying on the way we sent him.” APC chairmen, secretaries pass vote of confidence in Oshiomhole However, state chairmen and secretaries of the 36 states of the federation including Abuja, have passed a vote of confidence in Oshiomhole. Members of the group under the auspices of ‘Forum of Chairmen and Secretaries of APC,’ passed the vote after a meeting in Abuja on Monday. In a communique which was signed by its Chairman, Ali Dolari and Secretary, Dr Ben Nwoye, the chairmen and secretaries said all parties should seek political solutions by returning to the “reconciliation committee set up by our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, and led by our founding national chairman, Bisi Akande.” The communique read in part, “We the state chairmen unequivocally state that the party is bigger than the inordinate ambition of any individual. “We appeal to all those involved in the court disputes to withdraw the cases for the sake of our grass-root supporters and for the sake of all those who paid the ultimate price to install this government at the federal level and in various states. “Removal of our indefatigable national chairman will not improve the conditions of our supporters or the generality of Nigerian people. It will only satisfy the vindictive tendencies of a privileged few.” ‘We’re not factionalised’ Meanwhile, the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has said the party was not factionalised. National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu said this in a statement in Abuja, on Monday. He said, “In a political organisation such as the APC, contestations are not unusual and are not necessarily intractable.” https://punchng.com/nec-meeting-apc-may-raise-caretaker-panel-appoint-acting-chair/ |
Daily Trust gathered that on Sunday night, less than 12-hours to the removal of Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, heavily armed security personnel were deployed to the emir’s palace in Kano city. A source at the palace said the former emir was aware of his looming removal. The source said: “We were sitting at the premises of the palace when we noticed movement of some belongings of the emir and when we inquired, we were told that there is the likelihood that the emir will be removed. "But there is nothing one can do to save the situation…His highness has already removed some of his personal belongings from the palace since yesterday because he knew he would be dethroned.” Another source said Sanusi, who lived in the palace together with his wives and children, had invested a lot of money in giving it a face-lift. “He spent stupendous amount to make the palace befitting his status. He believed that will be the place he will live until he dies,” he said. Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje yesterday approved the appointment of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as the new Emir of Kano hours after dethroning Sanusi II. The dethroned emir was reportedly sent to Nasarawa State on exile. Hours after his removal, Sanusi II was flown to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja from where he was driven to Loko in Nasarawa State. A credible source who spoke to him said the former emir was not visibly ruffled despite the situation he found himself. "He was very, very calm,” the source said, adding “I spoke with him…He appeared normal, he told me all is well; he said he has submitted his fate to his Creator.” Sanusi’s lawyer A.B. Mahmud, SAN described the removal of Emir Sanusi as “an illegality.” https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/sanusi-aware-of-imminent-removal-as-emir.html |
Dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sansu II has been whisked off the State amid tight security. Before being taken away by heavy Security Personnel of DSS, Police and Military, Emir Sanusi was put under house arrest with the Palace sealed off by the armed security operatives. Already Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is set to announce the appointment of a new emir, following the removal of the Emir earlier today. An impeccable source in the Government House had hinted that the governor, who is currently presiding over an emergency Executive Council Meeting, will announce the new emir soon. Although there is no tentative person to be appointed, speculations are rife that the governor will announce Emir of Bichi, Aminu Ado Bayero to replace the embattled Sanusi. Recall that Ganduje announced the removal of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria over disrespect to constituted authorities, an act contrary to part 3, section 13 of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019. The Source hints that Emir of Bichi Aminu Ado Bayero one of the Sons of late Emir Ado Bayero might be crowned the 16th Fulani Emir of Kano. https://dailypost.ng/2020/03/09/breaking-dethroned-emir-sanusi-whisked-off-kano-state-amid-tight-security/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 |
The suspected killers of three female students of College of Education, Minna have been arrested while trying to sell the victims’ body parts. The suspects, Musa Smart, Ndakolo James and a voodoo priest, Bature Nathaniel, were arrested by police in Niger State at different locations. The suspects, during their parade at the police headquarters, said they kidnapped and killed the ladies and proceeded to sell their parts to one Musa Smart, who allegedly promised to pay N5 million for the parts. Two female students of College of Education, Minna, Oladepo Blessing, and Oluwasemilore Mary, were earlier in the year declared missing and although their names were not given, the girls may have been the victims, it was gathered. One of the suspects, Musa Ndakolo said that they were promised N5 million to get the left breasts and hands of ladies. He said the voodoo priest had not delivered on the N5m promised even though they had kept their part of the bargain. “We have killed three girls and removed their breasts and buried their remains in the bush. We gave the parts to the Alfa and Sile who is also part of us but has run away.” Ndakolo said that he was not involved in the killings, “I was not there when the victims were killed but I was the one keeping vigil at the entrance of the bush and the operation was successful. I did not participate in the killing.” Another suspect, Musa Smart said that they picked up the students at around 9.30 pm when they were returning from school to their hostel after reading at night. Police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun said the suspects confessed to killing and mutilating the bodies of their victims for ritual purposes, adding that the suspects also took the police to the place where one of the victims was buried and they found the body which was already decomposing. https://thenationonlineng.net/were-promised-n5m-to-deliver-ladies-breasts-hands-suspects-tell-police/ |
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, two-time Nigerian minister, has been appointed as a member South Africa’s presidential economic advisory council. Clarification sought by TheCable from close parties to the economist revealed that she is a member of the council, not the head as being reported on social media. The council is chaired by Cyril Ramaphosa, the South African president. Pictures shared on Twitter by the official handle of South Africa’s presidency and Okonjo-Iweala showed the latter in a meeting with local authorities. The pictures were captioned: “With President Ramaphosa, members of cabinet, and members of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council in Pretoria discussing sources of growth for the South African economy and win-win economic interactions with the continent.” Ramaphosa appointed the council on September 27, 2019. In a statement published on its website, the presidency said the council will “ensure greater coherence and consistency in the implementation of economic policy and ensure that government and society in general is better equipped to respond to changing economic circumstances”. The council, which is made up of local and international economic thought leaders, is expected to “advise the president and government more broadly, facilitating the development and implementation of economic policies that spur inclusive growth. “The council is a non-statutory and independent body chaired by the president and brings together prominent economists and technical experts drawn from academia, the private sector, labour, community, think tanks and other constituencies. The members, who will volunteer their time and be compensated for subsistence and travel, are appointed to serve a three-year term.” The council held its second meeting on Friday in Tshwane. Nigeria has recorded its first quarterly trade deficit since July 2016 as the value of its export fell by 9.79 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2019 while imports surged by 37.20 per cent, The PUNCH reports. The National Bureau of Statistics, in its latest Foreign Trade in Goods Statistics report released on Friday, said the value of Nigeria’s total trade rose by 10.15 per cent to N10.12tn in Q4 2019 over the value recorded in Q3. It said the value of the export component dropped by 9.79 per cent to N4.77tn in Q4 compared to Q3, while the import component increased by 37.20 per cent to N5.35tn. “The faster increase in imports resulted in a negative trade balance of N579.06bn during the quarter under review, the first since mid-2016,” the NBS said. According to the report, the value of total trade in 2019 rose by 14.05 per cent to N36.15tn compared to 2018. National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has broken his silence on attempts to suspend him from office. He blamed his recent travails on some chieftains of the party outside his state. Oshiomhole spoke to State House Correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday evening at the Presidential Villa, hours after a Federal High Court in Kano gave a restraining order in his favour. The APC Chairman declared only God can determine for how long he would lead the party. He said efforts by those he dubbed as ‘blacklegs’, whom he accused of holding membership of other opposition parties will not succeed. The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has said he is unaware of the alleged sack of the Director-General (DG) of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dakuku Peterside. There was an unconfirmed report that President Muhammadu Buhari approved the appointment of Bashir Jamoh as the new DG of the agency. Jamoh is the executive director of administration and finance in NIMASA. Peterside’s tenure expires on the 10th of March, 2020 Our correspondent monitored a morning show on television on Thursday where the Minister of Transportation reacted to the news of the sack. On the alleged sack of Peterside and his replacement by Jamoh, Amaechi said: “I am not aware. As of yesterday when I spoke to the DG of NIMASA, he was in the office and they had a board meeting and he was present at the meeting. I am not aware that he has been removed. I spoke to him at about 3 pm to 4 pm. I should know if he has been sacked. If I am the minister of transportation, I should know. “Maybe we need to call him (Peterside) this morning to know whether he is in the office but the government does not take an arbitrary decision. If he were to be sacked, the minister of transportation would be told to formally intimate the DG of his sack and I am not aware that the president has directed me to intimate anybody of his sack. “His tenure expires on the 10th of this month. When it expires, you can then approach the president to either reappoint him or replace him. The president has the appointing authority. All the minister has by law is the recommendation authority.” On the speculation that his alleged sack might be due to the failure of the agency to audit its account for six years, the minister said: “I am not aware that that could be the reason. He has been DG for only four years because he came into office in 2016 and they cannot be punishing him for the offence committed by previous DGs. “I don’t think that those speculations are right. I just think they are mere speculations and we should wait until Tuesday next week when his tenure will officially expire. The president has the right to appoint whoever he wants to appoint and if he wants to extend his tenure, he will extend his tenure.” On the alleged refusal of Peterside to attend National Assembly summons, he said: “I attend National assembly summons because they have the authority to summon a minister or the head of parastatals. I would be surprised if Peterside does not honour summons because he was once a member of the House of Representatives.” https://thenationonlineng.net/i-am-not-aware-of-petersides-sack-amaechi/

An Egyptian court on Monday sentenced 37 defendants, including a key militant, to death over terrorism-related charges. The verdict against Hesham Ashmawi, a former Egyptian army officer, and the other defendants was issued by the Cairo Criminal Court. Ashmawi was arrested in Libya’s eastern city of Derna, a stronghold of Islamist militias in late 2018 and handed over to Egyptian authorities in May. The defendants were convicted of belonging to the militant group Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, now known as Sinai Province, an affiliate of Islamic State, which is active in North Sinai. They were charged with committing 54 crimes, including murder, spying for foreign organisations like the Palestinian Hamas movement, sabotaging state institutions and violating citizens’ rights. The court also sentenced 61 other defendants to life in jail and 87 others to prison terms ranging between five and 15 years in the same case. The case involved 207 defendants, out of whom 22 of them have died. In November, Ashmawi was sentenced to death by hanging in another terrorism case. Ashmawi was accused of planning a 2013 assassination attempt against Egypt’s then-Interior Minister, Mohammed Ibrahim. He was also charged with involvement in a string of attacks on Egyptian security forces before he fled to neighbouring Libya in late 2017. Egypt has seen a wave of militant attacks, mainly targeting the country’s security forces and the Christian minority, since the army’s 2013 overthrow of the democratically elected President Mohammed Morsi. https://punchng.com/terrorism-egyptian-court-sentences-37-to-death/amp/?__twitter_impression=true Lalasticlala Mynd44 |

Says “i know i’m going; at 94, the best i can hope for myself is 6 more years” ....Excerpts from an interview with a foremost Northern leader, Tanko Yakassai Could this idea of regional police now springing up not be a sort of vote of no confidence along the path you are painting because it appears some of the people in these regions have lost confidence in the federal system and … (Cuts in) This question of insecurity is all over the country. This is why this initiative by the Southwest is seen as a kind of regional police. It is not the same like the ones we had at that time. If you allow one zone to have its own security outfit it would be a negation of the principles of the uniformity of police service so that the police are seen as a neutral body all over the country. I think the idea of having an establishment that will help in reducing the security challenges to help the police is better solved if we handle it holistically at the national level. I supported the initiative by the president when he set up a committee to advise the Federal Government on how to tackle the security problem all over the country. The committee is yet to submit its report. But I do not know whether this initiative by the Southwest is having this committee in mind or not. My concern and that of patriotic Nigerians is that when you do this you are sending signal to other regions to do their own. If this happens you will then have a situation where these regional setups will be controlled by the regional people. When this happens with the kind of political situation we have in the country today you cannot guarantee that recruitments into the various outfits would be based on merit. In that case where you have PDP in power, the recruitment will be limited to their supporters. The same thing will go for areas controlled by the APC. Ultimately, you will find out that you are helping political parties to develop a security establishment that is largely populated by their supporters or party thugs. It is not going to help the situation we find ourselves in this country. In fact, it would set up competition and it would also undermine the integrity of the country. You have raised another point for which there is the need for another question in relation to the regional security outfits. Don’t you think that the establishment of these outfits is a vote of no confidence in the central policing system, especially when some parts of the country are against the composition of those in charge of these security arms? You are looking at the issue with a kind of jaundiced mind. What you need to do is to look at the number of policemen in Nigeria. Are they enough to take care of the security challenges of this country? We should ask ourselves this question. The answer is no. But for how long have we been working with this number of policemen? It is said that we have 300,000 policemen. In my opinion if we find out this 300,000 is not enough why can’t we double it and make it 600,000. The money that people are going to waste in creating regional structures can be contributed to augment the national allocation for the sustenance of the national police service and, therefore, you will have more policemen in the country and have more policemen to tackle the problem more effectively. I will suggest that we do it at a national level. Let us increase the number of policemen and create a synergy between federal, state and local government police. Let’s come to the issue of national integration and cohesion which is the main subject matter. How do we now reset Nigeria to achieve national integration and cohesion because truth be told, we have lost all to nepotism, ethnicity and religion? Unfortunately, I do not believe that we can achieve a lot of success under the present situation because those in power today didn’t come to power with a defined programme. They do not care about the problem in the country. So, what we need to do is to try to find, through our political party system, where there will be a political party for Nigeria that will look at the problem of Nigeria holistically and introduce programmes that would address these problems. That party will then be able to promote national unity by way of implementing those programmes perceived to be helpful in promoting national integration in the country. The political parties we have in Nigeria today are not equipped to do such things. I will ask you this question because it is like a practical consequence to what you have just said that those in power today do not have defined programme. Because it is like what we have today is one strong man, Buhari and not strong institutions that can resolve our problems in Nigeria. So, if I got you correctly it is like we have today in Nigeria passive leaders and not proactive ones. Would that be right? Unfortunately, for Nigerians if this situation were to continue we will end up with one party state in Nigeria. This is the trend. See how bye-elections are conducted. You will find that if there is a bye-election no matter how strong the opposition is in such area the outcome will favour the weaker party. We have seen it. I think the problem is that of all of us in Nigeria. In fact, if there are Nigerians that can be exonerated they are the people of the Southeast and South-south; but the North and the Southwest are responsible for our problems today under this regime. I said it right from the beginning that Buhari is not competent and therefore cannot lead. There is a northerner who was my friend but because of what I told them about the incompetence of Buhari till today we are not on speaking terms. He is not a young man, but he is my junior who is above 80 years. He is an experienced person, but at that time there was this mentality that it is only Buhari that can solve the problems of Nigeria. The CPC, which was Buhari’s party was a regional party. It was not a national party. Then the ACN thought that by aligning with Buhari supporters it would be a short cut to accessing power to control four states in the Southwest and ultimately the country. They used that to get Osun State on their side and subsequently Ondo and the rest of them to support APC. Now, we are crying. It was our shortsightedness. People did not behave the way they are supposed to behaved when Buhari was looking for power. In other words, the North and Southwest foisted on Nigerians the problems they are going through now. Yes, they did. Look at the votes. It is not hearsay. It is a factual thing. Look at the votes. You said Buhari is incompetent. How incompetent is he really because there are those who still believe in him as we speak and… (Cuts in) I wouldn’t answer this question. Look, you will answer that question yourself or ask other Nigerians, not me. Can we have your position on the latest row in Nigeria’s seat of power; the one between the Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno. Look, the problem between the Chief of Staff and the NSA is not a good omen for Nigeria. It exposes the complaints that I have been making about Buhari. I am being vindicated. There are people who have come to apologise to me for their hostility towards me because I did not support Buhari. And some of these people are even from the South. I saw it coming because I watched Buhari when he was military Head of State when he combined two powers; powers of the legislature and that of the executive. And for two years with all the powers at his control what did he achieve for Nigeria? My impression of him became confirmed when I read the interview of his ADC, Al-Mustapha Jokolo when he was giving the background to Buhari’s position when he became Head of State. Jokolo was his ADC. The interviewer asked him why Buhari didn’t perform within the two years he was in office. His answer was that it was because they asked Mahmoud Tukur and Mamman Daura to give them a blueprint and they waited for two years without the blueprint from the two people. I think we Nigerians should be patriotic this time around. We should be able to say the truth and stand by it. A whole country like Nigeria should not be governed by an individual just because people believe that he can do things. He cannot do miracle. Nobody can claim that NPN belonged to him alone. Nobody can also claim that PDP belongs to him alone. But what can you say of the APC? You see Nigeria’s problem started when Obasanjo under PDP crowned himself as the leader of the party and crowned the state governors as leaders of the party in their respective states. After that nobody can be anything in Nigeria except the person has the sympathy of the president or the governors. You cannot be even an Assistant Organising Secretary in the PDP if you are not enjoying the support of either the president or your governor. And this is what is happening today. PDP was not like that before Obasanjo came into the party. Obasanjo created that problem and now every governor sees himself as party leader. Have you not seen the PDP constitution? Up till today it is not in the APC constitution. But it is being practiced and implemented. It was not like that during the NPN era and it was not like that at the inception of the PDP until Obasanjo introduced it. You can go through history and see the truth of the matter. But we will remain like this until Nigerians particularly you media people come out and fight the situation so that we can change for the better. What do you expect us to do in the circumstance? We fight for a change. We should highlight the problem and file out for a change. I am too old. I am 94 years, but I will continue to fight. But without your support I cannot succeed. You can help me tell Nigerians that this system is bad. You can help me tell Nigerians that we need to change it. And you can help me tell Nigerians what type of change we need unlike the one they shouted change, change, change before Buhari came in. Nobody bothered to ask what kind of change. People are talking about restructuring. I am not against restructuring, but I want to know what it is all about. Let the protagonists come out with a blueprint. If they restructure Nigeria how would it look like? I know I am going. At 94 the best I can hope for myself is six more years. Even if I stay more than that maybe I will not be able to speak to you the way I am speaking to you now because age will catch up with me. I have been fighting for justice in Nigeria right from my youth days. I joined politics in Nigeria when I was 25 years old. I left my profession and joined politics. Till today that is what I am doing. Go to my bank account I don’t have up to N100,000 of my own, but I am happy. I have my children and I live comfortably well. But Nigerians must come and fight this thing and bring it to an end. Let all the political parties be changed into a people’s party. APC is now like an appendage of the CPC. https://www.sunnewsonline.com/yakasai-to-nigerians-blame-southwest-north-for-your-sufferings/ |
