Education › Re: Flogging Boys On The Buttocks And Girls On The Hands In Schools by Reinah(f): 5:33am On Sep 09, 2019 |
I can count the number of times I was flogged in school, once in Basic 4 by the school head because Blessing my bestie told me about all the maltreatment her step mum who was also a teacher had been giving her. Mama said we were gossiping about her. I was flogged on the palm but she got hers on the buttocks. Second time was in JSS 2, I was flogged on the back of my palm with the side of a wooden ruler because I couldn't solve a Maths equation, he earlier said "If I call you and you don't get it, I will flog you more than others" so I prepared my mind not to cry but that thing can pain sha. Well, in school, we had this idea that flogging girls on the buttocks is dangerous because the womb is there, I don't know where we heard it sha but yes, it hurts more than the palms. Another thing is, flogging girls on the buttocks by male teachers can end up being sexualized. All in all, serving punishments is better than using canes, IMO. |

I'm one of those who has lost counts of events they volunteered for Staying idle is just boring but going out there to do something for yourself and humanity? Best feeling ever. Changing my volunteering experience from NGOs to normal work place soon sha.. Let us get a taste of that too So, should you know a child care hospital, counselling agency or radio station in Lagos that allows volunteers, please tell me You don't always have to join an organization to volunteer, you could just decide to be part of some events, like, community cleaning, walk against child labour e.t.c It's always best to be a registered volunteer for at least, one organization sha. You can simply search for 'NGOs on *your area of interest* in *your location*' and reach out to them. Another tip that can help, especially if you are not a university student is that you can get contacts of students in your base who are involved in these things to share info with you or you could follow them online . You can find them on IG or FB by using #volunteersfor*your area of interest' e.g #volunteersforhumanrightadvocacy and so on. If you are in Kwara state and you want to get into volunteering, feel free to send me a private message. |

PropaMan: simply impose tax on those plastic bottles, so it wont be easy to purchase,
just follow whatever is being done in the western world, i dont why our leaders even travel abroad and still dont have directions?? Honestly, some ministers only exist for paper works. They don't care about doing significant things. Even something as crucial as providing enough big waste bins on our roads na error for Ministry of Environment |
Health › Re: Solution To Permanently End Plastic Pollution by Reinah(f): 7:50am On Jul 23, 2019 |
Nice article OP Sighs.. I'm passionate about a safer environment. Plastic pollution is one tough menace And Nigeria has a looooooooong way to go. We don't even know how to dispose our plastic wastes properly, let alone find alternatives. First, more people have to be enlightened on proper waste disposal, reuse and recycle measures. As it stands, recycling is still a good solution. When the government is ready to tackle the issue, I think policies that will put industries to change their packages to carton papers as much as possible will help too. Shops like Shoprite can use reusable paper bags that people will have to pay a token for. If I have to pay for a paper bag every time I shop, I'll definitely keep it clean and take it there the next time I shop (I already do this, I have fine plastic bags of various sizes I use to shop and I don't collect new ones, esp the small black ones) Not everyone will care but plastic wastes will reduce. The point is, we should stop new production of plastics, reuse and recycle the existing ones while we seek a lasting alternative. I believe things will get better in years to come sha.. Slow but steady. |

drsteroid: I am an Eye doctor, I discovered through clinical experience that most Patients don't really know about some basic things and problems affecting the eyesn and these has led to simple eye problems being seen as complicated and frightening to most patients and they don't really know how to go about it. There are some eye problems that are hereditary, which requires normal routine eye examinations but due to ignorance most patients tend to lose their sight to eye problems that could have been prevented. I want to use this opportunity to enlighten us and provide solutions to problems affecting the eyes,in line with WHO Vision 2020-Right to sight for all, so all questions concerning the eyes are welcomed Good day, Doc. I have been short-sighted since 2015 but lately, I noticed some difficulties seeing the faces of people about 10-15 feet away from me. I would see their body but the face will be blurry. Is this also part of the former problem or something new? Also, I don't like wearing my glasses because my eyes get painful and my head aches when I wear it for long. Do you think contact lens would be safer.? Thank you |
