Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Wycombe's 16-year-old forward Jordon Ibe for an undisclosed fee. Ibe was only 15 when he made his senior debut for Wanderers earlier this season in a League Cup tie against Colchester. And he went on to score his first professional goal, following a superb run and finish, in a 2-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday two months ago. "It's a fantastic move for him," Chairboys boss Gary Waddock told the club website. "Obviously we wanted to keep him, but we didn't want to stand in the way of an opportunity he deserves. "I have no doubt in my mind that he will go on to become a big star and I will be keeping a close eye on his progress." South London-born Ibe joined Wanderers as a 12-year-old after being released by Charlton and leaves after making 11 appearances for the club. By Victoria Ojeme Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, has condemned the illegal arrest and harassment of Nigerians in South Africa. He also called for the granting of visas to Nigerian diplomats and officials to boost free movement. He made this known when the South African High Commissioner paid him a courtesy call in his office in Abuja, yesterday. Moro said: “Nigerians have watched the programme in South Africa with keen interest. It is an understatement to say that Nigeria and South Africa have advanced to a stage but we still have some teething problems such as arrest, harassment and even killing of Nigerians. “We must at all times reciprocate relationship between the two countries. South Africa must extend the same hand of friendship. “In our country, we have removed some restriction in procurement of visas. “I want to enjoin the people of South Africa to provide equal treatment to Nigerians so that some of those teething problems will be resolved.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/12/minister-condemns-harassment-killing-of-nigerians-in-safrica/ |
BY NDAHI MARAMA MAIDUGURI- An explosion, Tuesday, rocked London Ciki ward of Maiduguri Metropolis on leaving four persons dead including a suspected member of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnah Lidda’awati Wal Jihad, also known as Boko Haram and a 9-year old child. Eleven others were said to be seriously injured while a residential house of an Islamic scholar, the Imam of Maikatanga mosque, Mallam Goni Modu was burnt down. It was gathered that, the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which was targeted at the patrol vehicle of the Joint Task Force, JTF, in the area was planted on the busy Tashan Bala Road. A suspected member of Boko Haram, who was trying to detonate it was killed. An eye witness who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said he was coming out from his residence some few metres away from the scene when he heard a loud sound and quickly rushed back to his house for safety. Another eye witness, Mallam Gana Bukar who came to the area to condole his relatives over the demise of their son, said: “ I was very lucky to escape not being hurt or injured in the blast, as it happened close to where I was coming from, but unfortunately, after 10 minutes, I saw one of the patrol vehicles of the JTF conveying some dead bodies with injured ones to an undisclosed hospital. Confirming the blast to newsmen in Maiduguri in a telephone conversation, the Field Operation Officer of the Joint Task Force in Borno, Colonel. Ebhaleme said an IED was targeted at a military patrol vehicle very close to a densely populated residential area “but they were unable to hit any of our men nor operational vehicles. We heard the explosion around 9 a.m, after which we quickly rushed to the scene of the incident where we discovered that a suspected Boko Haram sect member died in the process of detonating an explosive devise”. The Field Operation Officer also revealed that the JTF members were able to recover some arms and ammunitions from the Vehicle which the suspected bomber drove before the explosion went off, even as he could not give the number of casualties. He however added that “we were able to rescue some women and children from one of the houses that went set ablaze as a result of the explosion. Right now, there is no need to panic, we have brought the situation under control and the fire service men are trying to put off the fire that has engulfed the scene.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/12/fresh-bomb-explosion-kills-4-in-maiduguri/ |
…1,400 Labour, PDP supporters decamp to CPC. BY KINGSLEY OMONOBI Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Governorship candidate in the 2012 Adamawa State gubernatorial election, General Mohamed Buba Marwa has told supporters of his ambition in the state to collect money that would be offered them by the opposition party and still vote the candidate of their choice to actualize the change needed in their lives. Speaking when over 1, 400 Labour Party and PDP supporters in local communities of Girei 1 and Yola South Local Government area in the state decamped to the CPC said, “the money they (opposition party) would bring to you to influence your decision, is your money. Don’t be deceived; they are not doing you any favours. That is the money they were to use in providing food for you, good healthcare, education, infrastructure and water for you. What they will give you is a minute fraction of what belongs to you”. Speaking to hundreds of men, women and children in communities like Bakopi, Goron, Koh, Damare and Dagri, as his campaign train traversed the seemingly forgotten villages, General Marwa said it was sheer wickedness that in this time and age, many communities in Adamawa state were still relying on ponds, un-treated wells and polluted rivers for cooking and drinking water. The campaign train also took the CPC candidate to communities like Namtari, Gongoshi, Wauru-Jabbe, and Bole/Yolde-Pate. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/12/adamawa-guber-race-collect-their-money-and-vote-candidate-of-your-choice-marwa/ |
Super Eagles defender,Taye Taiwo played for 89 minutes last night in Prague,Czech Republic in AC Milan's 2-2 defeat of homers,Viktoria Plzen in their final group game of the 2011/2012 UEFA Champions League after over 30 days of bench-warming. The Nigerian was handed the chance to prove he is good enough to play for the Italian giants following the huge doubt that surrounded his future at the San Siro after failing to impress coach Massimiliano Allegri and majority of Milan fans who have dubbed him a huge waste of space. A free agent from Oympique Marseille last summer, Taiwo has failed to take responsibilities on the pitch and so his appearances for the Rossoneri have been limited to only two appearances thus far. He last played for Milan on November 1 in another Champions League tie at home to BATE Borisov. But last night Taiwo was given what should pass as a final test to determine if he will stay in January or be shipped out on loan to any willing club and the Nigerian was rated barely average by the media in Italy albeit it was his clearance that gave Milan the second goal before he was substituted by Zambrotta with seconds left in regulation time after coppong what looked like a harmstring injury. Meanwhile reports in Turkey reveal that Galatasaray have opened discussions with Milan with a view to taking Taiwo on loan in the January transfer window. However, the unwillingness of the former Marseille of France power-playing defender to leave Italy and the fact that the Istanbul side are not willing to pay more than half of his salary which is about € 150 000 may scuttle the plan. Taiwo has played just six games in all competitions since arriving from France; the latest being the UEFA Champions League match against Viktoria Plzen in Prague yesterday. Other European clubs that are on the trail of the 2008 Beijing Olympic soccer silver medalist are Benfica, Werder Bremen and Olympique Lyon. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/news/2011/12/taiwo-plays-for-89-minsgets-turkish-loan-offer |
Super Eagles winger cum striker, Chinedu Obasi is injured and will be out for the rest of the year. Obasi injured his knee Tuesday in training and has been ruled out of action for three weeks which effectively rules him out of the remaining games in the Bundesliga for the rest of the year as well as a DFB Cup game against FC Augsburg on December 20. The Nigerian only returned to full training with the rest of his colleagues this week after he was suspended last week alongside Brazilian team-mate Firmino for reporting late for training. Obasi was subsequently dropped from the Hoffenheim squad that lost 2-0 to Bayer Leverkusen last Friday at the BayArena in Leverkusen. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/news/2011/12/obasi-down-and-out-for-three-weeks |
Taye Taiwo’s Milan career could come to an end in January, the defender’s representative has admitted. The Nigerian joined the Rossoneri in the summer from Marseille once his contract expired. However, he’s played in just two Serie A games and four Champions League ties for his new cub since. “There are a few games left this year and then we’ll make some evaluations,” Fabio Parisi told calciomercatoweb.it. “We’ll have to decide whether he should go and play for another club or stay at Milan to fight for his place in the first team.” The 26-year-old, who spent seven years in France, has been paired with Galatasaray and Werder Bremen recently. Taiwo's volte face,as it were came a few days after he scotched rumours he will leave the club in the January transfer window. Parisi had insisted in a report in calciomercato.com thus: "I don't think that any of these rumours will materialise into anything. "He is having a great time at AC Milan and in time he will get more chances to play. I have not had any contact with Benfica's representatives." On the speculation linking Taiwo with a switch to the Premier League, Parisi added: "There is nothing concrete. He has only been at Milan for a short period of time and his goal now is to get in the team, so that he can make a larger contribution.” http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/news/2011/12/taiwo-to-consider-milan-exit |
Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi looks like he could be the latest player set to leave Stamford Bridge once the January transfer window opens for business according to reports in the Daily Telegraph. Over the past couple of months a number of Chelsea players have been linked with move away from the club including the likes of Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, Alex, David Luiz and Salomon Kalou. It now seems as though Mikel could also be heading for the Stamford Bridge exit with Italian side Juventus and Roma both keen on the Nigerian international. Mikel currently has three years remaining on his current contract with the Blues and they value him £15 million but will be hoping to fetch more if Juventus and Roma both enter the race for the 24-year-old i the New Year. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/news/2011/12/juventus-roma-battle-for-15m-rated-mikel |
Reports in Italy reveal that Inter Milan coach Claudio Ranieri is seeking a loan club for Joel Obi. Ranieri regards the young Nigerian as a big talent, but can't find the room in his team to help his development. Instead, Ranieri hopes to place him at another Serie A club. Interestingly, another media report in Italy suggest that the Nigerian midfielder is eager to exit the San Siro next month to enable him play week in,week out so as to improve as a player. The Nigerian, regarded as a rough diamond in Italy still wants to return to Inter after his loan spell and command a regular shirt. On Wednesday night he made his third UEFA Champions League start for Inter in five appearances so far this term and coach Ranieri heaped plaudits on the 20-year old who was substituted in the second half due to a muscular problem. ''Obi did well as usual, I know what he can give me'',Ranieri said in his post match reaction after the 2-1 loss to Russian side,CSKA Moscow at the San Siro. Meanwhile fellow Serie A side,Chievo Verona are in pole position to secure the services of the Nigerian on loan if Inter finally decide to let him go. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/news/2011/12/inter-eager-to-send-joel-obi-on-loan |
Spartak Moscow striker Emmanuel Emenike is facing a potential ban from Fifa for his alleged involvement in the Turkish match-fixing scandal, according to Life Sports. The Nigeria international joined the Russian club from Fenerbahce in the summer for a €10 million fee, despite being arrested and questioned in July as part of the match-fixing investigations, as he was later released due to lack of evidence. However, last week Turkish prosecutors announced that 93 people have formally been charged for involvement in the crimes, with Emenike included in the list. Fifa may ban the 24-year-old from football while the forward could receive a jail sentence of up to 12 years if found guilty in court. Since his summer arrival in Russia, Emenike has been in fine form, grabbing eight goals in 13 appearances for Spartak. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/news/2011/12/emenike-faces-fifa-ban-over-match-fixing-charge |
The Oodua Peoples Congress OPC, on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of the Boko Haram sect being involved in Monday’s bomb blast at the INEC office in Ekiti. Founder of the OPC, Dr Federick Faseun, disclosed this in Lagos. According to him, “Nigeria should not put every episode of violence on the laps of the Boko Haram. I won’t subscribe to Boko Haram being responsible for the Ekiti bombing’’. He said that security operatives must find and fish out those responsible for the dastardly act, otherwise, the nation would continue to look at Boko Haram, while other people take advantage to commit crimes. INEC office in Ikole Ekiti was on Monday bombed by unidentified persons. The bombing came just two days after the INEC conducted a re-run election to fill the vacant seat of the Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II, which was won by the Action Congress of Nigeria , ACN, candidate, Oyetunde Ojo. The INEC Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Taiwo Gbadegesin, whose office was razed in the explosion, said that no life was lost in the incident. However, Police spokesman of Ekiti State, Mohammed Jimoh, said that explosive experts had been deployed to investigate the incident and its cause. It will be recalled that the OPC last Thursday carried out a massive protest in Lagos against the activities of the Boko Haram sect and the poor security situation in Nigeria. Faseun, however, said that the OPC was ready to take up the security of the South-West, if security operatives continued to exhibit incompetence in tackling crime.
