Spanish side Villarreal have signed Nigeria striker Ikechukwu Uche on a three-way deal from Real Zaragoza for an undisclosed fee. The 27-year-old has been immediately loaned out to Spanish La Liga newboys Granada, for the whole of the season. "It's just another challenge, a new opportunity to continue my career in the Spanish league." "I look forward to joining the rest of the squad after the international break next week," he told BBC Sport. "I thank everyone involved in the move, I wish Real Zaragoza, the loving and exciting fans, as well as my former teammates all the best. "The new phase in my career starts here now and I look forward to an exciting time in the colours of my new club." Uche has signed a four-year contract with Villareal. He has had to endure an injury-ravaged time with Zaragoza, only making a return in March after 18 months out with injury. Since his return Uche has scored six goals in four appearances for the Super Eagles of Nigeria. The Nigeria international also had an offer from Greek side Olympiakos for the loan move but opted to stay in Spain instead, where he has been since 2001. He joins Senegal's Pape Malickou Diakhate at the club, the defender joined the newly-promoted side on a five-year deal from Russia's Dynamo Kiev last week. Algeria midfielder Hassan Yebda is also at Granada - he signed a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee recently. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/14729216.stm |

BY CHIOMA OBINNA LAGOS— Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, declared yesterday that the content of the controversial National Health Bill, was thorough and all-encompassing. Chukwu, who spoke in Lagos during a condolence visit to the family of the late Mrs Kate Bisi Demehin, an Assistant Director, Nutrition, Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, a victim of the United Nations Building bomb blast in Abuja, last week, stressed that the Bill represents the interest of the people and has passed through three presidents, five ministers of health and several permanent secretaries. Explaining why Nigeria must have a regulatory document, he said areas such as stem cell research and organ transplant according to the Bill should be regulated since the country has commenced such operations. He said: “I have gone through the Bill myself being Minister of Health. I was part of it several years ago even when I was not a minister, it went through all the processes and has gone through four ministers and probably I am the fifth minister the Bill has passed through his tenure. It has gone through several Presidents, probably this is the third president of Nigeria whose administration is dealing with it. It has gone through several Permanent Secretaries of the FMOH. It is not something any particular individual at a stage would say it is personal work. It started from some people and other people have made input. It went through the National Assembly and there was public hearing, many people took part in it.” Explaining why Nigeria must have a regulatory document, he said areas such as stem cell research and organ transplant according to the Bill should be regulated since the country has commenced such operations. The Minister further affirmed that the Bill would benefit both practitioners and the common man. “In terms of organ transplant, we have been performing kidney transplant and blood transfusion. We have started stem-cell research in Nigeria that is the way to go. But right now they are not regulated so we want it to be regulated”. Chukwu lambasted those who were of the view that the Bill has legalised abortion saying that “there is no clause in the Bill to that effect”. He said, “I read a report that says abortion has been legalised, there is no clause in the Bill that says it has been legalised in the country, it is still the status quo, which is that, abortion has not been legalised”. The minister who was optimistic that the Bill will be signed into law by the president, enjoined Nigerians calling for the withdrawal of the Bill, to have a rethink, as their action would not benefit the entire populace. He added that even if there are contentions on any issues raised in the Bill, it is subject to amendment while being implemented. Addressing the family of late Mrs. Kate Demehin, Chukwu described the death of those who lost their lives in the bomb blast as great loss to the ministry and the nation at large. The Minister encouraged the family of the deceased to bear the loss with fortitude, having in mind that the Late Mrs. Demehin lived a fulfilled life on earth. He described her as a role model, who died while carrying out her official duties, and said that the ideals she stood and fought for would not be in vain. Responding, the Widower, Mr Alex Demehin who was full gratitude for the ministry’s concern, called on the Federal government to ensure that the country enjoys adequate security and remains a single entity. “The people in power should sit down and bring a solution to the problem of insecurity in the country. Let them give a listening ear to the agitations of each group and addressed them. Speaking UNICEF Representative, Mr Stanley Chitekwe who described the late Mrs Demehin as a hard-working woman whose life and work touched many lives said the late Demehin was at UNICEF office at the fateful day to discuss issues bordering on nutrition on a behalf of FMOH. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/09/content-of-national-health-bill-encompassing-chukwu/ |
There's Egbema in Warri delta, Rivers state, and Imo state. Is there a common link? |
By Emma Amaize & Akpokona Omafuaire WARRI – THE Egbema/Gbaramatu Communities Development Committee, EGDC, comprising host Ijaw communities to Chevron Nigeria Limited, has rejected the sharing formula adopted by the company for the phase four of the Escravos Gas to Liquid Project, EGP. EGDC in a statement in Warri, Delta State, signed by Mr. Kennedy Brake, and others said information at their disposal showed that the company had allegedly adopted a sharing formula of 65 per cent for Itsekiri, 25 per cent for Ijaws and 10 per cent for Ilajes to replace the GMoU reached with the Ijaw Regional Development Council. The group said: “The said 25 per cent is unacceptable, provocative and a slap on the Ijaw communities of Egbema and Gbaramatu Kingdoms. We shall stop all operations in Chevron fields unless the issues raised with Mr. Trust Inimgba-led PGPA teams were addressed. “Oil and gas, which are produced in Ijaw areas, are moved to Escravos. We will not allow Chevron to take our oil and gas to Escravos anymore. The proposed EGP4 should be built in Ijaw area.” They said 25 per cent allocated to Ijaw was detrimental to their interest and should be jettisoned for a full implementation of the agreed terms in the GMoU. They added: “All available contracts and jobs are given to people and communities outside areas of operation of Chevron at the expense of the communities. This act must stop. We also call for promotion of Ijaws in Chevron to managerial positions.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/09/ijaw-communities-reject-chevrons-sharing-formula/ |
When have you witnessed a group of Yoruba leaders and the Yoruba people join together to resort to violence over paranoia like the SE/Northern people? You have North with their boko hrams, SE with their Biafra/Massobs, ND with their militants etc. When you have one or two doofus killing for politics, that does not generalized the population sample, talkless of the population overall. Where in Nigeria is political violence unheard of?
Please show me where you got that from other regions? |
Unfortunately, i agree with some of these comments. The same Yoruba leaders who selfishly saw to their own greed are the ones crying for marginalization. I believe a cry for OBJ, Oni, Fayose, Akala etc's arrest will better benefit us. A Northerner becomes president, he sees to the care of his people. With the money past Northern presidents/Politicians have incorporated in the North, it still baffles me that millions of almajiris and uneducated abokis continue to increase in that part of Nigeria. A SS becomes president and he's seeing to the cry of his SS/SE people. A Yoruba became president and how did that benefit the SW? Continue to cry for marginalization while the same culprits are still walking and influencing our politics. It has never been part of Yoruba cultural politics to resort to violence, so why are people here still saying "atleast they went to discuss with the president than resort to violence". Before nko? Look until the day those agbaya politicians are booked with the keys thrown out, nothing go change. Like someone said, I think it's better if all of una start replying to una papa's house. Then we can start afresh with this unity thing because nothing dey work. I dont understand why Oyo politician cannot reprimand Ogun's politician for any wrong doing. and I am sooooo sick and tired of politicians congratulating themselves. . . . it's really sickening. Am i the only one that thinks so? I've been living in Oklahoma for over 40 years and I dont see OK Governor running to Texas to congratulate him or to visit him for whatsoever reason. Mind your freaking business and see to the good of your state. Too much amebos and iyalodes having no business in politics. . . . SHAME ON THESE SHAMELESS ELDERS! Thank God they dont speak for the general Yoruba population. see them trying to nourish their drying pockets.
Define violence. If political assassination in the SW is not violence then wahala dey. FYI, Bakare just gave a yes nod for violence. Abi u never hear his speech? |
I just dnt get Nigerians. Was the 1967-1970 war not a revolution? Or is it because Bakare is pastor? Which revolution is more than the Biafran war which was suppressed by the Nigerian govt with Awolowo as vice president while other groups laughed. Baifra(1967) ----- I want to be me, define myself, existence and move freely with no form of intimidation from nobody. stil the same today(2011). Hw is the definition different from the speech Bakare is yapping about now. Abeg make we hear word. Bakare should go liaise with opc and boko haram then his plans would yield good, sweet and unforgettable results. |
Ngozi Okonjo and Dora Akunyili are the only persons who have resigned their federal appointment in Nigeria. The rest are chaff-men. I see prof Barth Nnaji resigning too cos he's got his name to protect. So it means resignation can be found in the Nigerian dictionary. lol. |
Sanusi----the more you look the less you see. Sanusi is a phucking sadist raised to the power of 9999. Every day is Islamic bank and no day for the micro finance banks which need all assistance needed to make it work. |
Haha, I bet those companies that won those contracts are his cronies. Na big and compound thief be Orji. |
I thought GEJ said they have opened up the embassy in San Francisco. |

Abagworo:Those highlighted are Nigerians and have never be ashamed to say it. Nas is not a Nigerian. Taio cruz will be never accept he is Nigerian. Tinie tempa represents Nigeria any day any time. He was in Nigeria to perform this year. He featured in a song flygerian. Chamillionaire recently made a remix with Darey art Alade. He doesnt deny his Naija roots. Sade is a full blooded Nigerian she has never denied it. She says OYO is her home town even though she lives in the Uk. Only the british press says she is british with a Nigerian descent. Lemar na correct Igbo boy. He sang a song in Igbo. Light house family(Tunde) has never denied his Nigerian heritage. Seal, I know no for him. |
