Sports / Pep Guardiola's Wife Returns To Spain After 3 Years In Spain by reportminds: 2:08pm On Sep 22, 2019
Pep Guardiola
Pep Guardiola's wife has gone back to live in Spain after spending three years with her hubby in England.

According to a report by Sunday Mirror Sport, Guardiola’s spouse, Cristina, returned to Barcelona with one of the couple’s three children to look after her business interests.

She owns a successful fashion company in Catalonia and has been managing the enterprise by commuting regularly from Manchester for the last three years. But the plan is for her to base herself in Barcelona for the next few months before returning permanently to the luxury city-centre apartment that has become home to the Guardiola family.

The arrangement means husband Pep will take care of the couple’s other two kids - as well as masterminding his club’s bid for a third successive Premier League title and Champions League glory while his wife is away.

The 48-year-old former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach is in his fourth season at City and is contracted to the club until 2022 after signing an extension in May last year.

Guardiola met his wife when she was working in her family’s exclusive clothes boutique in Barcelona. He was playing for Barca at the time but visited the shop after being asked to do some modelling for designer Antonio Miro.

They got married in May 2014 and have three children, Marius, Maria and Valentina.

Sports / Lampard: I Didn't Tell Abraham To Snub Nigeria For England by reportminds: 9:16am On Sep 16, 2019
Lampard denies lobbying Abraham to dump Nigeria
Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard has revealed that he has not spoken to Tammy Abraham about pledging his international future to Nigeria over England.

Abraham’s blistering start to the season had dominated the local and English media and he further enhanced his reputation on matchday five, scoring his first Premier League hat-trick, as Chelsea recorded a comfortable 5-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Asked by reporters if Abraham is going to Nigeria, Lampard replied: ‘’I haven’t spoken to him about that’’.

Lampard had backed his number nine to force his way into the England squad, provided he keeps scoring goals and does not rest on his laurels.

He added: ‘‘The way that he is going, he is going to be in that bracket. To score seven goals in three games. Fantastic from him. He has to be hungry. He needs to keep playing at that level.’’

England’s next internationals in October are competitive matches against Czech Republic and Bulgaria and Abraham would become cap-tied to his country of birth if he spends a second on the pitch in any of those games.

Sports / Guardiola Praise Liverpool: "Congratulations, You're Champions" by reportminds: 2:47pm On Sep 15, 2019
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has dismissed the significance of defeat to Norwich City.

City were stunned by the newly promoted Canaries at Carrow Road, leaving them five points adrift of the table-topping Liverpool, who beat Newcastle to continue their perfect start to the season.

However, Guardiola claimed that it is far too early to consider congratulating Liverpool on winning the title already, knowing plenty more twists and turns lie ahead.

"Five points (behind Liverpool) is five points – but we are in September," Guardiola said.

“What are we supposed to do? Say 'it's September and congratulations to Liverpool, you are champions?'

“Not for one second am I going to doubt my players."

Sports / Meet 16 Years Old Ansu Fati That Has Dethroned Messi At Barcelona by reportminds: 2:39pm On Sep 15, 2019
In Ansu Fati, Barcelona may well be grooming the successor for their extremely successful captain Lionel Messi. The young Bissau-Guinean becomes one of the very few Africans to ever break into the Barcelona attacking ranks, after the legendary reign of Samuel Etoo in the 2000s.

At just 16, the Guinea Bissau born Fati is already doing things Messi did not do at his age.

Against Valencia on Saturday, Fati stole the show. He scored on a tidy finish and gave a wonderful assist to put Barca up by two goals in just seven minutes, showing his team the way in a resounding 5-2 win.

He’s now scored twice already in three league appearances – the first came in the 2-2 tie at Osasuna. For reference, it took Messi 13 games to score his second Barca goal. And Messi was older, too.

Optajose noted on Twitter: “Ansu Fati (16 years and 318 days) has become the youngest player to both score and assist in a LaLiga game in the 21st century. Diamond.”

In just the second minute, Fati connected with Frenkie de Jong’s square ball for a tidy finish.

And five minutes later, Fati scampered up the left, beat his man and cut back for de Jong, who struck it home for his first goal as a Barca player:

They beat a familiar face in Jasper Cillessen, Barca’s backup goalkeeper until last season. After the intermission, the Dutchman parried a Griezmann shot off his near post, but it skipped free for Gerard Pique to bundle in the third goal. Then Suarez came on and scored twice, including immediately clipping a ball in off the near post.

Fati’s influence waned in the second half, and he came off for Suarez after an hour. But he was the story. This was evidenced by the rousing ovation the Camp Nou gave him.

He was also named man of the match.

Michael Schumacher, 50, is reportedly "conscious" after being in a coma for nearly 6 years.

The Formula 1 champion underwent a "secret treatment" after being admitted to the Pompidou hospital in southwest Paris and he reportedly responded well to treatment.

According to Le Parisien, a member of staff at the hospital in Paris was overheard telling a colleague about Schumacher, "Yes, he’s in my department. And I can assure you that he’s conscious."

Schumacher has been in an induced coma since December 2013 after suffering serious brain injuries in a skiing accident while on holiday.

Le Parisien reported that the German racer had been admitted to the hospital to receive a pioneering stem-cell transfusion carried out by French surgeon Philippe Menasche.

Though a member of staff claim he has regained consciousness, a family spokeswoman did not confirm this.

FIA president Jean Todt was reportedly seen leaving the hospital on Monday afternoon after visiting Schumacher for 45 minutes but Todt also refused to comment about Schumacher's state upon leaving the hospital.

Sports / Former Man Utd Captain Vidic Reveals Toughest Striker Ever Faced by reportminds: 1:26pm On Sep 10, 2019
Nemanja Vidic has revealed that Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero was the toughest opponent he faced, as a tortuous afternoon at the Etihad left the former defensive titan reflecting on his worst game in a United shirt.

Vidic enjoyed a glittering career at Old Trafford after joining from Spartak Moscow in 2006, making a total of 300 appearances for the club where he lifted five Premier League titles, three League Cups and a Champions League trophy.

But the 37-year-old has spoken of his displeasure in coming up against Argentine striker Sergio Aguero. A 4-1 defeat by City in September 2013 proved to be, on reflection, Vidic’s worst game in a United shirt.

Vidic said just how difficult it is to track the prolific City striker.

Speaking to The Athletic, the Serb said, “I played against Aguero when they beat us 4-1 in the Moyes season.

“He (Aguero) looks like he’s not interested in football on the pitch. He doesn’t look like a guy who will run 10 metres and then — bang — he makes the sprint.

“I’m convinced that Aguero was born as a defender. He knows where the ball will come and where he can attack. But in the box, he has a low centre of gravity, which helps him change direction quickly — especially against the big English defenders.

“That was my worst game for United. I know I’m supposed to choose those two final defeats to and they were horrible to lose. That one in Rome, and Wembley was even tougher.”

It will come as something of a surprise to many fans, given how much Vidic used to struggle when facing former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres in the Premier League.

Torres consistently got the better of the Serbian centre-back during their meetings, most famously at Old Trafford in 2009 when he scored in Liverpool’s 4-1 win – a match where Vidic was sent off.

Sports / Real Madrid Lead Europe With € 305m Spending In 2019 Summer Transfer Window by reportminds: 11:41am On Sep 07, 2019
LaLiga Santander and Serie A asserted themselves in this summer's transfer market as they outspent the Premier League on player signings.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were the top three spenders across Europe, with each bringing in one expensive superstar.

Here are the main talking points from Prime Time Sport's Football Transfer Review 2020.

LaLiga breaks records

Both LaLiga Santander (1.319 billion euros spent) and Serie A (1.178 billion euros) broke their spending records this summer.

Premier League clubs lost ground in terms of expenditure with only Manchester United, Manchester City, and Arsenal breaking their previous records.

In terms of spending, LaLiga Santander has four clubs (Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico, and Sevilla) in Europe's top 10 while Juventus and Inter represent Serie A.

Real Madrid lead Europe

Los Blancos broke their previous spending record by parting with 305 million euros to reinforce their squad. However, for the third year in a row, Real Madrid have the squad with the highest average age in LaLiga Santander.

Lots of spending but little change, something that is reflected in Zinedine Zidane's recent starting line-ups.

Atletico reach the elite

Atletico flexed their ever-growing financial muscle during the summer as they splashed out 243 million euros on players.

The signing of Joao Felix signaled their intent in breaking into Europe's biggest clubs. In fact, in the last five years, Los Rojiblancos have spent more (728 million euros) than city rivals Real Madrid (624 million euros).

Discarded signings
Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have moved to rid themselves of signings that haven't worked out.

The obvious one from this summer was Philippe Coutinho, who cost Barcelona 145 million euros in January 2018. He was shipped out on loan to Bayern Munich after just 18 months at the Camp Nou.

Los Blancos have either sold or loaned out players that they spent a total of 56 million euros on in the last three years.

More sales than ever
With bigger spending comes a necessary increase in player sales. Clubs try to stay within financial guidelines of their own and of UEFA.

LaLiga Santander clubs sold over one billion euros worth of talent this summer with Atletico making 311 million euros in total.

Over the last five years, Monaco has been the biggest sellers (851 million euros) followed by Juventus (710 million euros), Atletico (660 million euros) and Barcelona (644 million euros) - Real Madrid are 10th on 444 million euros.

Fewer academy graduates
Investment in new players has seen the number of academy players reaching the first team fall. Real Madrid has just six academy graduates in their squad this season and Barcelona have nine (eight fewer than in 2013).

Segunda spending rises

LaLiga Smartbank broke their spending record this summer with their clubs shelling out a total of 39 million euros on new players.

Almeria has been the big spenders in Spain's second tier. Their purchase of Arvin Appiah from Nottingham Forest for 8.8 million euros is the second-highest transfer fee paid by any second division team ever in Spain.

The Premier League loses ground

Premier League clubs were still the biggest spenders in Europe thanks to the signings of Harry Maguire (87 million euros to Manchester United), Nicolas Pepe (80 million euros to Arsenal) and Rodri (70 million euros to Manchester City).

LaLiga Santander, Serie A, and the Bundesliga all made huge strides in closing the gap at the top. LaLiga Santander was boosted by the signings of Joao Felix (126 million euros to Atletico), Antoine Griezmann (120 million euros to Barcelona) and Eden Hazard (100 million euros to Real Madrid).

Per Globo (h/t TalkSport's Billy Hawkins), the 30-year-old Danilo complained of feeling unwell just 10 minutes into the match and was transported to the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo. His death was later confirmed by a friend and former team-mate of Cafu.

Cafu's former clubs AS Roma and AC Milan expressed their condolences, as did Francesco Totti:

The 49-year-old Cafu is considered among the greatest full-backs of all time and has more caps for Brazil than any other player in history (142). He won two Serie A titles, one each with Roma and Milan, as well as the 2006-07 UEFA Champions League with the Rossoneri.

With Brazil, he triumphed at the 1994 and 2002 FIFA World Cups and won the Copa America twice.

Cafu retired in 2008 and was enshrined in both the Roma and Milan Halls of Fame.

Sports / OFFICIAL: Emblem For The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Unveiled by reportminds: 12:43am On Sep 06, 2019
The Official Emblem of the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup™ embodies the vision of an event that connects and engages the entire world, while also featuring striking elements of local and regional Arab culture and allusions to the beautiful game.

The swooping curves of the emblem represent the undulations of desert dunes and the unbroken loop depicts both the number eight – a reminder of the eight astonishing stadiums that will host matches – and the infinity symbol, reflecting the interconnected nature of the event.

Besides echoing the shape of the iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy, the emblem’s central form takes inspiration from a traditional woollen shawl. During winter months, shawls are worn around the world and in the Arab and Gulf region in particular.

The regionally inspired winter garment also alludes to the tournament’s start dates and the fact that it will be the first FIFA World Cup™ to be played in November and December.

The new typeface created to accompany the emblem re-imagines traditional Arabic calligraphy in a new, contemporary font, taking inspiration from the region and Asia, and fusing tradition with modernity.

Sports / Semenya Begins Football Career In South Africa by reportminds: 12:31am On Sep 06, 2019
Multiple Gold Medalist Caster Semenya, has joined Gauteng-based JVW Football Club, owned by Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk

Caster Semenya has set a new challenge for herself in her already-illustrious career by taking to the football field at JVW FC.

The renowned 28-year-old South African athlete has always had a love for football.

During her youth years, Semenya played soccer at school and trained every day. So, it is no shock she has finally set her sights on playing competitive football.

Although the South African running sensation will not be registered for the 2019 Safa Sasol League, the league in which JVW plays, due to the transfer window being closed for the 2019 season, she will continue to train with the team in preparation for a 2020 debut.

JVW FC is currently sitting second on the Gauteng Sasol Log, two points (with 3 games in hand) behind leaders, Croesus Ladies with ambitions to qualify for the play-offs and a chance to feature in the National League.

Semenya joins a number of other high-profile international stars who are registered for JVW, including Nompumelelo Nyandeni, Mamello Makhabane, and Amanda Dlamini (former Banyana Banyana Captain).

Janine van Wyk, who recently made a move from JVW, signing with Danish club Fortuna Hjorring, is delighted Caster has joined her club. She is excited for the near future when Semenya eventually takes the field in an official match.

"I am extremely elated to have such an iconic athlete join my football club. I am absolutely honoured that out of all the other women’s clubs around the world, she has chosen JVW as the club where she would like to start showcasing her football skills. I welcomed her at her first training [session] with the team on Tuesday and was impressed to see she definitely has all the fundamentals. I look forward to her working with coach Ciara and our first team where I am sure she will sharpen up and get ready to play in 2020. Although I won’t be here for the rest of the year, as I have just signed with Fortuna Hjorring, I have no doubt that Caster will fit right in, and enjoy her time at the club," said Van Wyk.

When asked about her new challenge, Semenya responded: "I am grateful for this opportunity and I appreciate the love and support I already get from the team. I am looking forward to this new journey and hopefully, I can contribute as much as I can to the club."

The JVW FC first team has 11 matches remaining in the Sasol League and they are sitting in a comfortable position to finish on top. The 2019 Sasol League Play-offs will be held in Gauteng, where the two teams that reach the finals will secure a place in the 2020 Safa National League.

Sports / Iwobi Scores First Premier League Goal For Everton by reportminds: 3:39pm On Sep 01, 2019
Alex Iwobi scored his first Premier League goal to give Everton a 2-1 lead against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

Iwobi, who scored his maiden goal for Everton during Wednesday's League Cup outing against Lincoln City, continued his fine scoring form with another strike.

The 23-year-old summer-signing converted Gylfi Sigurdsson's cross to the back of the net with his header to put Marco Silva's men ahead again in the 12th minute.

Richarlison earlier opened the scoring for the hosts at Goodison Park in the fifth minute but the lead was cancelled out by Morocco 's Romain Saiss four minutes later.

Iwobi has now scored two goals in his opening three games for the Merseyside outfit.

He will be aiming to help Everton grab their second Premier League win of the season after bowing to Aston Villa last Friday.
