READ ALSO: Boko Haram Has Become Weak FLASH:Troops are now in full control of Mafa, Borno State after completing the operation to clear terrorists from the town yesterday evening — DEFENCE HQ NIGERIA (@DefenceInfoNG) March 5, 2015 Meanwhile, Nigerian troops have been recording successes in recent operations against the Islamic sect. The Nigerian army has freed several townsthat had been captured by Boko Haram, notably Baga, a fishing community in Borno where as many as 2000 people may have been killed by the terrorist group. The military recently also carried out air raids on Sambisa Forest and Gwoza, alleged strongholds of the Boko Haram militants, killing, scattering and capturing many of the sect members in the process. However, following the improvement in the operation against the Islamist, and the renewed commitment of the military hierarchy in ensuring that the soldiers morale continues to soar, Nigerians will be expecting to hear good news about the 234 female students that were abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno state by Boko Haram members in April 2014.http://www.naij.com/397157-nigerian-troops-chase-boko-haram-from-mafa-borno-state.html |
Details have emerged on the chain of events that may have led to the death of Bashir, eldest son of a former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Mohammed Bello. Family sources told THISDAY that Bashir died late Sunday night when his Mercedes E-230 car ran into a broken down truck near Rigachukun bridge along Kaduna-Zaria Road. THISDAY gathered that 51-year-old Bashir was travelling to Zaria in search of his 14-year-old son, Gidado, who travelled with the family driver without the parents’ knowledge. The driver’s disappearance with Gidado and the family’s Toyota Camry car, the sources said, had greatly unsettled the late Bashir who scoured several police stations in Kaduna in search of his son. “Bashir was advised to go to Zaria after all attempts to get the driver on the telephone failed. It was on the way to Zaria that he ran into a broken down truck of one of the major cement companies. We believe the accident occured around 11.30p.m., going by his phone records. “We didn’t even know of the accident until Monday morning when a good Samaritan called with Bashir’s number to break the tragic news,” the source offered. THISDAY also gathered that the driver who hails from Danbatta, Kano State, had shortly after receiving news of the accident sent a friend to return the Camry and Gidado. The driver’s emissary has been reportedly arrested by the police.http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/how-bashir-ex-cjn-bello-s-son-died/203408/ |

The Chadian army captured supposed Boko Haram member, who is accused of killing five people. The soldiers nicknamed him ‘The Butcher.’ The Butcher The man was seized in an isolated area of Nigeria, where Chad, Niger and Cameroon have launched a military campaign to assist Nigeria stop Boko Haram insurgency, the terror sect which aims to carve an Islamic caliphate out of northeastern Nigeria. It shows a prisoner, believed to belong to Boko Haram, caught during the ride we had with the Chadian troops on the battle field.” “Most Boko Haram fighters had left but a few isolated ones were caught that day. A Chadian soldier told me: “Come and see this guy, he killed five men by cutting their throat and he’s not even denying it.” The man was accused of killing five people the way Boko Haram does, cutting their throat with a knife. That is why one of the soldiers gave him a nickname ‘The Butcher’. He was abruptly materializing all the horror and fear of Boko Haram. The soldiers brutally dragged the prisoner to show him to the press. The problem with this picture was being fast enough to shoot it before the other journalists showed up and made it impossible. The soldier presents the prisoner like you do with an animal at a fair,” photographer added. It should be noted that Chad’s president Idriss Deby, yesterday March 4th, said that his army forces know where Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau is hiding telling him to surrender which will be in his best interest. Nigerian military has already cleared from insurgents Baga, Bara, Gulanilocal government area of neighboring Yobe state. A drama took place on the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday when Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal raised the hands of three of his colleagues who, like him, are contesting for governorship seats in their respective states.Tambuwal is the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress in Sokoto state. He raised the hands of the Deputy Speaker of the House, Emeka Ihedioha and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who are seeking for governorship on the platform of the PDP in Imo and Enugu states respectively. The other lawmaker is Dakuku Peterside of APC, who is the party’s governorship candidate in Rivers state. Dakuku first went to Tambuwal for a private discussion when suddenly the speaker called on Ihedioha and Ugwuanyi to be part of the meeting. When they arrived, Tambuwal stood up and raised their hands, as they all laughed jokingly and their other colleagues on the floor joined them. Soon after that, six other representatives who are contesting the Senate tickets in their states went to meet Tambuwal for the same treatment and he raised their hands also. Unsurprisingly, the laughter continued. Those concerned included minority whip Samson Osagie, John Enoh, Abubakar Momoh, Uche Ekwunife and others. But minority leader Femi Gbajabiamila came up jokingly with a point of order, saying that they needed to know where Tambuwal belongs, having raised Ihedioha and Ugwuanyi’s (who are of the PDP) hands. Tambuwal simply replied by saying that his official car’s number plate carries ‘Federal Republic of Nigeria’ and not the logo of any political party. The Speaker added that his party is the ‘Federal Republic of Nigeria.http://www.naij.com/392800-drama-in-the-house-of-reps.html |

A young man who sold his son for N300,000 has been arrested by the Abia State Police Command. Maduabuchi George Okey was nabbed for conspiring with one Obinna Erondu to sell his son, Chizoba Maduabuchi, aged one year and two months. The suspect was among alleged child traffickers, armed robbers and kidnappers paraded by the Abia State Police Command today at the Police Officers Mess on Factory Road, Umuahia. Abia State Commissioner of Police, Joshak Habila, told newsmen that police swung into action and rescued Chizoba following an alarm raised by his mother, Eberechi Maduabuchi. Mrs. Maduabuchi told newsment that on February 18, 2015, her husband asked her to bath their only son very early in the morning. She said her husband got angry as she disobeyed him and ordered her to do his bidding. According to her, after bathing the baby, her husband told her that they would take the baby on a visit to the house of his friend Erondu. She said she objected too on the grounds that the day was still young. Thereafter, she said, her husband took the child with him to Erondu’s house. Mrs. Maduabuchi said that at about 5pm, her husband despatched a car to come and fetch her to Erondu’s house but she insisted she would not go to the place. She said that her husband eventually returned at about 10pm without the child but was carrying a celophane bag which fell off his hand and spilled huge sums of money onto the floor. She said it dawned on her that her husband might have sold their child and she raised the alarm. CP Habila said the police traced the child to Erondu’s house at Mbutu Umuogwo village in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area and recovered him but that Erondu escaped. http://newsexpressngr.com/news/detail.php?news=9825&title=Father-sells-son-for-N300,000

Niger’s air force has bombed a convoy of trucks carrying smoked fish to Nigeria, a trade banned by local officials because it is suspected of helping to finance the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, security sources said on Wednesday. “Earlier this week, air forces fired on merchandise vans along the river Kamadougou,” said one of the sources. The river separates northern Nigeria from southeastern Niger. The people in the trucks fled over the border into Nigeria, the source said. Niger officials say Boko Haram taxes fishermen or seizes their catches along the shores of Lake Chad and uses the money to help fund their bid to carve out a caliphate in northeast Nigeria. The insurgency, which has killed thousands, was partly responsible for delaying Nigeria’s election earlier this month. A second security source confirmed the incident and said about a dozen people suspected of involvement in trading fish for Boko Haram were arrested earlier this week. The air strikes came as the governor of Niger’s Diffa region, which borders Boko Haram strongholds in Nigeria and has seen a spate of attacks by the militants this month, officially banned the sale and transport of fish into Nigeria this week. Fishing is one of the main economic activities in Diffa, and much of the fish caught there is shipped to Nigeria. Boko Haram also raises cash through ransom paid for hostages and the sale of stolen cattle, security sources say. A senior Cameroonian military officer said the army there was working with Chad to freeze the group’s trade. “What we have been trying to do is stop any kind of economic activity that Boko Haram could be benefiting from. We are trying to choke all their resources,” he said on Wednesday. Regional armies have massed troops along Nigeria’s border before a joint operation against the Islamists. Although the regional force will not be operational until the end of next month, the armies of Niger, Cameroon and Chad have had some success in driving the militants back into Nigeria following cross-border attacks. Nigeria’s army has also recaptured several towns previously held by the militants, but security sources say Lake Chad and its waterways are difficult to police.http://newsexpressngr.com/news/detail.php?news=9813&title=Bombs-rain-on-fish-traders-linked-to-Boko-Haram |
Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Kenneth Minima, said on Wednesday that elections could be held in territories recovered from the Boko Haram insurgents. Mr. Minima, a Lieutenant General, said successes recorded by the troops in dislodging the insurgents from some territories may enable the displaced persons to return back to their homes before the general elections which are scheduled to hold on March 28 and April 11. Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced, most of them within Nigeria, since the insurgency began in 2009. The electoral commission, INEC, had earlier said it could only hold elections in safe areas including legally recognised camps for displaced persons. On Wednesday, the Army chief said he was impressed with the feat achieved by the soldiers and pledged that more Nigerian territory still being controlled by the insurgents will be retaken. Mr. Minima arrived the Air Force base of the 79th Composite Group of the Nigerian Air Force, Maiduguri, at about noon via a military aircraft alongside other top officers. He was immediately conveyed in a military chopper to Kukawa Local Government. Only a government television crew was embedded on the flight trip to Baga as the army could not provide transport helicopters for journalists to the recaptured border town. At the border town, Mr. Minima reportedly addressed the troops on ground where he informed them that President Goodluck Jonathan and Nigerians were proud of them. Promotion for victorious soldiers Upon his return back to Maiduguri two hours later, the army chief told journalists that his visit was to boost soldiers’ morale. “My visit there is on confidence building and to inform the troops that the entire Nigerians are singing their praises for their courage and urge them to keep up the tempo,” he said. “They have made Nigerians proud. From today it is never again for insurgents to take hold of any of our territory. I told them that today it is going to be victory all the way because the war is almost ended. “From here we move to retake Gwoza, Marte, and Madagali. With this, there is going to be no more Boko Haram; the slogan is ‘never again’ and even the President shares in this slogan. “In the army’s usual a way of commending soldiers’ courage and patriotism, I have announced to them that every soldier that participated in the Baga operation, whether dead or alive, has been promoted to the next rank,” the army chief added. The soldiers were said to be full praises and jubilation as officers conducted Mr. Minima and his team round parts of the town, recently recovered from the insurgents. He also inspected some of the weapons and vehicles recovered from the insurgents. Mr. Minima said he is very confident that within the six weeks frame given to flush out Boko Haram, it is possible for all the displaced residents to return home and even cast their votes. “It is achievable to end the Boko Haram activities very soon because we are still within the six weeks framework,” he said. “But we should not see the six weeks as a must-accomplish time; this is war and we will try and do whatever possible to liberate more areas so that displaced citizens can go and resettle and possibly vote during the elections”. INEC had postponed the elections, initially scheduled for February 14 and 28, based on the military’s stance that it could not guarantee security and would need six weeks for an onslaught on the insurgents. The move was criticised by many Nigerians including some opposition parties who questioned why the onslaught was delayed until the time of the elections.http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/177534-boko-haram-nigerias-army-chief-visits-baga-says-elections-may-hold-in-recovered-territory.html |
Borno Elders Forum yesterday praised the Nigerian military for taking the war to the Boko Haram insurgents and recovering some captured territories. However, the Forum advised the Defence Headquarters to organise a special tour for community leaders and journalists to visit the liberated communities. Spokesman of the Forum Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio said the Forum was impressed by the way troops were recording successes against the insurgents. He equally gave credit to troops from Chad, Cameroon and Niger, whom he said had proved to be friends in need. “It is evidently clear that the tide has changed for the better, especially in the last two weeks. The regional forces are doing well. “However, we wish we would be taken to these communities to see things for ourselves. “It will also be a good credit to the Nigerian authorities if opinion leaders and journalists would be taken to Monguno and Baga as well as the communities around them that are said to be free. “When these leaders return from the visits, they would brief their people and this will give psychological relief to the thousands of IDPs that are now living in Maiduguri who are oblivion of what the future holds for them or whether they would ever go back to their ancestral homes,” Gubio said. He urged the committee set up by Federal Government under the leadership of retired General T.Y Danjuma to expedite action that would enable the displaced persons return to their homes. “There is doubt about the fact the next phase of the counter insurgency approach will be serious rehabilitation of the displaced and reconstructing of ruined communities,” he said. He added that this should be taken seriously by those vested with the responsibility. Gubio berated former minister of communication Edwin Clark over his remark recently that one day an Almajiri would become the President of Nigeria. Clark had said President Goodluck transformed the Tsangaya schools in Nigeria, a feat he added all the northern governors could not achieve. “The statement by Edwin Clark was in bad taste and unless he wants to rewrite history, the Almajiris have ruled this country at different times. “To set the record straight, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, The Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello and even Alhaji Shehu Shagari have all attended the Almajiri School,” he said.http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/daily/top-stories/47808-borno-elders-to-defence-hq-we-want-to-tour-liberated-towns |
The police in Kwara State has intercepted a truck load of 108, 806 live cartridges at Kosubosu in Baruten Local Government Area and a large cache of arms and Ak-47 rifles in Ilorin, the state’s capital. Addressing politicians in the state yesterday, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salihu Garba, urged them to desist from engaging in political crisis or face the full wrath of the law. He said political thuggery had increased in the state, warning that it does not augur well for peaceful co-existence. The Kwara police boss further warned of zero tolerance for political thuggery and urged politicians to eschew violence by warning their members in order not to incur the full wrath of the law. “Intelligence gathered by the Kwara State Police Command so far revealed a great increase in the rate of political thuggery and hooliganism in the ongoing electioneering period in the state, resulting into various forms of attacks on political opponents, destruction of political opponents’ property and posters as well as billboards and other allied offences associated with political violence which is alien to the State in the past, as the state is known for its harmonious nature,” Garba said. Candidates and representatives of political parties in attendance, however, made a commitment to promoting peace in a declaration to maintain peace and also encourage their supporters to do same.http://newsexpressngr.com/news/detail.php?news=9780&title=Police-impounds-truck-with-over-100,000-live-cartridges-in-Kwara |
A consignment of U.S. military equipment has arrived in Cameroon to aid in the fight against the Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram. This is part of an increasing flow of international assistance to Central African nations as they prepare to deploy a regional military force to counter Boko Haram’s insurgency in Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad. The United States Ambassador to Cameroon, Michael Hoza, said the military equipment is a sign of Washington’s firm commitment to help Cameroon counter the growing regional terrorist threat posed by Boko Haram. “Just this morning some more equipment arrived. We have been setting up a logistic pipeline for critical equipment to assist Cameroon security forces in their battle against Boko Haram. We will continue our effort to provide assistance and advice to the Cameroonian military and security forces as they battle to defend Cameroon’s territory and protect its people,” said Hoza. Hoza said the United States has been providing military advisors and trainers at Cameroon’s request, and that cooperation is evolving to focus more on counter-insurgency tactics. Cameroon Defence Minister Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o said American assistance is vital to counter Boko Haram’s nearly six-year insurgency, which spilled over from Nigeria into Cameroon in 2013 and more recently into neighbors Chad and Niger. He said the assistance, and the knowledge that the international community is supporting them in the fight against Boko Haram terrorism, has boosted the morale of Cameroon’s military. Cameroon, Chad and Niger have launched air and land operations trying to squeeze Boko Haram fighters along Nigeria’s borders. Regional military chiefs meet in Chad next week to finalise plans to deploy some 8,700 troops - which will also include soldiers from Benin. Boko Haram has killed thousands, displaced hundreds of thousands people, attacked mosques, churches, schools and homes, and kidnapped scores of girls and young women. The United States has declared Boko Haram a foreign terrorist organisation and has placed a $7 million bounty on Shekau to help bring him to justice. •Excerpted from aVOA report. Nigeria’s militant Boko Haram sect supposedly harvests human organs and sells to the West, according to a report by Newswire NG. Global Prolife Alliance Council on Health and Society is supposing that Boko Haram insurgents are also in the business of harvesting human organs just like ISIS (Islamic State of Iraque and Syria) are said to have been doing. The United Nations is investigating the accusations that ISIS — already measured the wealthiest terrorist group on record — may be harvesting organs from killed citizens and gaining money by trading the body parts, officials said Wednesday. Dr Philip Njemanze in a letter to NewsWire says a better look at the pictures from the clashes carried out so far displays a shape of injury of the victims with a right or left flank cut and bleeding. Some stayed alive. According to another story also attached is that Boko Haram kills 3 doctors, decapitates one and 25 physicians killed thus far. Specialists at the Global Prolife Alliance (GPA) inspected other photos and others released thus far by JTF and others. It shows a clear pattern of central chest, or abdominal injury or flank injuries. These are operation injuries related to organ harvesting of heart, kidneys, Liver and other internal organs. The Boko Haram will have full access to harvesting organs of the civilians. The kidnapping of the Chibok Girlsand the eye-witness accounts by female victims who were prisoners indicate that they were wholly dishonored and drugged which shows that they may have been used for harvesting ovarian eggs after injections with hormonal drugs. The Chibok Girls kidnapping and others must now be seen in another point of view that the women are being used by for human ovarian egg pouching. The GPA has long preserved that the Boko Haram armed force were hired by Biotechnology companies and the International Organ and Egg Trafficking Cartel. The recent events have confirmed our worst fears that it is already on-going. Meanwhile, the prospects for non-implementation will make the battlefield harvesting of organs and human ovarian eggs a long-term goal.http://www.naij.com/388354-boko-haram-allegedly-harvests-and-sells-human-organs.html |
