Politics › Renowned Educationist Faults Buhari’s School Cert., by resty4(op): 9:20pm On Jan 22, 2015
A research report by an educationist and Professor of Educational Foundations in the University of Ilorin, A. A. Adeyinka, has punched holes in the claims by presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), that he sat for and got credit pass in Hausa Language from the Provincial College (now Government College, Katsina), in 1961, saying no school in Nigeria offered subjects in local languages at the time.
Adeyinka’s research report, titled ‘Major Trends in Curriculum Development in Nigeria’, had further chipped away the credibility of the Statement of Result released by the college to support General Buhari’s claims that he attended secondary school.
According to the his research, available at www.unilorin.edu, prior to the emergence of a centralised government by the regime of General Yakubu Gowon from 1966 to 1975, all regions in Nigeria had different academic curriculums. He added that it was only the Western Region that offered a local language as a subject in both their curriculum and school certificate examinations.
The university don said it was after a central government was formed and a universal educational curriculum was developed and adopted that other local languages were included in schools curriculums in 1974.
He listed subjects in the academic curriculum to include English Language, Biology, Commerce, Principles of Accounts, Health Science, Literature in English, Bible Knowledge, History, Geography, Yoruba, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
According to Adeyinka, Yoruba entered the academic curriculum following the recommendations of a Commission set up to review the academic curriculum for schools in the then Western Region.
He wrote: “In the former Western Region, for example, both the Banjo Report (1961) and the Taiwo Report (1968) recommended the revision of the school syllabuses and the introduction of a new structure of education. The Banjo Report specifically recommended a new model for secondary education, comprising junior and senior secondary schools. The curriculum of the former should be comprehensive. This was partly the origin of the Aiyetoro Comprehensive School experiment started in 1963. The Taiwo Committee recommended that the primary-school curriculum should be overhauled and new syllabuses prepared in such subjects as Mathematics and Social Studies. Similar recommendations were made in the East (Dike 1959, Ivan Ikoku, 1964).”
General Buhari has raised a lot of dust over the delay in the release of his school certificate to support claims he made in the forms he filled with the Independent national Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of requirements to contest the 2015 presidential elections on February 14.http://newsexpressngr.com/news/detail.php?news=9226&title=Renowned-educationist-faults-Buhari%E2%80%99s-school-cert.,-says-no-schools-taught-local-languages-in-Nigeria-before-1971
Politics › Northern Group Seeks ICC Prosecution Of Buhari Over 2011 Election Violence by resty4(op): 8:58pm On Jan 22, 2015
A group, the Northern Coalition for Democracy and Justice, has called for the prosecution of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the International Criminal Court, ICC, The Hague for “orchestrating” the 2011 post-election violence in some parts of Northern of Nigeria.
The group, said to be a consortium of 17 non-governmental organisations, operating primarily in the Northern states of Nigeria, made the charge Thursday at a press briefing in Abuja at the Transcorps Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
In a statement read by its secretary for research and documentation, Ibrahim Baba, the group said it was compelled to “sustain the process for the prosecution of Mr. Buhari” which it claimed to have been instituted at the The Hague in May 2011, “for his role that orchestrated the 2011 post-election violence in some parts of the North.”
Claiming national interest “devoid of partisanship and political colouration”, the group said it was important that “those responsible for the premeditated arson, killings and destruction of properties” be brought to justice.
The group explained that recent provocative and inciting statements by politicians ahead of the 2015 general elections had influenced the renewed request for the ICC to urgently launch criminal investigations against Mr. Buhari in order to checkmate a reoccurrence of political violence.
While establishing grounds for its call for the prosecution of Buhari, it said: “Similarly, we recall that just before the 2011 general elections, the then presidential candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari had categorically directed crowds in Hausa (language) at his campaign rallies in the north but particularly Minna, Kaduna and Maiduguri to protect their votes at all cost including killing and elimination of others.
“Like a nightmare, the spirit of victims of 2011 post-election violence is resurrecting today at this venue to re-echo the calls for justice and immediate prosecution of those responsible for imposing tears, sorrow, blood and violence on Nigerians in 2011.
“Another reason for institution of the case is to compel the political class to imbibe the culture of winning election through the sanctity of the ballot box devoid of intimidation, threat, intolerance, hate messages, resorting to self-help and violence. We remained concerned about gut-wrenching situation of people being intimidated on account of exercising their political liberty, choices and preferences. In the North, now, they attack supporters of a particular party and candidate.”
In his address, Goran Sluiter, a Dutch professor of Law at ICC, who attended the briefing, said: “Based on available evidence, there are compelling reasons to believe that crimes against humanity – including murder, torture, rape, forcible population transfer, persecution, and other inhumane acts – were committed in the context of the politically-motivated sectarian violence that immediately followed Nigerian presidential elections of April 2011.”
Mr. Sluitter said given the seriousness of the crimes, “the prosecutor at the ICC will be asked to conduct investigations into the alleged acts and their perpetrators, in particular former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari.
“The evidence collected to date strongly suggests that the highly inflammatory public comments made by General Buhari – prior to, during and immediately following 2011 elections – led directly to the deaths of over 88 people and the displacement of more than 65,000 individuals in April 2011.”
He added that the northern group represented the aspirations of all Nigerians.
However the programme did not end without drama.
As Ibrahim Baba was ending the press address, some attendees and members of the coalition, who claimed to have been invited purportedly to campaign for peaceful elections, started jeering. They said they did not know the press conference was meant to discredit Mr. Buhari, accusing the conveners of promoting PDP agenda.
The dissident members were forcibly sent out of the conference room but they continued shouting, “This is unfair; we were not told to come for this!”
They were prevented from speaking with journalists but one of them, the most outspoken, said, while being pushed away, “Heh! Journalist, my name is Hassan from Borno State. They are deceiving us!”http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/175449-drama-northern-group-seeks-icc-prosecution-buhari-2011-election-violence.html

Crime › ISIS Executes13 Football Fans For Watching Iraq Vs Jordan Match On TV by resty4(op): 7:35am On Jan 21, 2015
ISIS militants have executed 13 teenage boys for watching the Asian Cup football match between Iraq and Jordan last week.
According The young football fans had been caught watching the game on television in the Iraqi city of Mosul, which is controlled by the Islamic State.
Dailymail reports that the teenagers were rounded up and publicly executed by a firing squad using machine guns, anti-ISIS activist group Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently reports.
The bodies remained lying in the open and their parents were unable to withdraw them for fear of murder by terrorist organisation,’
They said the 13 teenagers were rounded up by ISIS militants in the Al-Yarmouk district of Mosul, and executed in public.
The boys’ ‘crime’ – breaking religious laws by watching football – was read out on a loudspeaker before their executions.
The news of the horrifying execution of the teenagers comes just days after ISIS released a video showing two men being thrown off the top of a tower block in Mosul.
Charges found against the accused were announced by a masked Islamic State fighter, using a small handheld radio.
Reading from a list, he declares the men are guilty of engaging in homosexual activities and should be punished by death, in accordance with Islamic State’s radical interpretation of Sharia law.

Foreign Affairs › UN Okays Force To Battle Boko Haram by resty4(op): 7:28am On Jan 21, 2015
•150 schools shut in Cameroon •10,000 displaced
The United Nations Security Council yesterday demanded that Boko Haram “immediately and unequivocally cease all hostilities and all abuses of human rights and violations”.
In a statement by the President of the Council, the UN accused Boko Haram of carrying out kidnappings, killings, hostage-taking, pillaging, rape, sexual slavery and recruitment of child soldiers since it launched its campaign in 2009.
It urged African countries to step up plans for a multinational force to fight Boko Haram—in the world body’s first overall response to the threat posed by the insurgents.
The council issued a 13-point statement strongly condemning attacks by Boko Haram, in particular those involving children used as suicide bombers, and demanded an end to the violence.
On the eve of a key meeting in Niger of regional leaders, the 15-member council urged Nigeria’s neighbours to advance planning for the deployment of a multinational task force to drive out Boko Haram.
Chad is set to contribute a sizeable contingent to the force along with Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria and Benin. The multinational force has been under discussion since last year, but divisions over the scale and scope of its operations have slowed down the deployment.
The statement from the council came as Boko Haram fighters seized scores of hostages in a raid in neighboring Cameroon on Sunday.
The council expressed “deep concern that the activities of Boko Haram are undermining the peace and stability of the west and central African region.”
The statement was the first adopted by the council on the threat posed by Boko Haram, which is on the UN terrorists list. Previous statements focused on condemning specific attacks.
Ghanaian President Dramani Mahama also favours the deployment of a regional force to battle the sect. In an interview with a German radio station, the Ghannian leader said he would press for support from the African Union during its Summit next week.
As a result of Boko Haram’s attacks, more than 10,000 panic-stricken Cameroonians are fleeing border regions with Borno state for safer locations, government officials said yesterday.
Boko Haram has, in the past month, raided at least two dozen villages and towns in northern Cameroon. The group also kidnapped dozens of people during an attack on Mabass village on Sunday.
The insurgents are looting food and livestock, and a humanitarian and food crisis looms, Cameroon’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation Rene Emmanuel Sadi, said yesterday.
Students and teachers are among those who have fled their homes. More than 10 schools were deserted after attacks Sunday, adding to the about 140 schools that have shut their doors because of the insurgency bleeding over into Cameroon, said Cameroon’s Minister of Education Monouna Fotso. The government is trying to accommodate the affected students, Fotso said.
There is a moral obligation for safer schools to admit the children despite limited resources and space, said Bernadette Appi, a teacher at a primary school in Maroua, where some children have been moved.
Boko Haram attacked Mabass village, in the Far North region of Cameroon, early Sunday and staged its largest kidnapping yet in Cameroon, according to the government. The military said up to 60 people were kidnapped, though about 30 eventually escaped.
Chadian troops began arriving in Cameroon on Sunday to support Cameroon’s army in the fight against the militants.
The Boko Haram insurgency has killed thousands and driven 1.6 million people from their homes, including across borders into Cameroon, Niger and Chad.
Also at the Hague, Netherland, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court condemned the escalation in “appalling levels” of violence in Nigeria’s northeastern Islamic uprising and warns she will prosecute members of any party to the conflict most responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
A statement yesterday from Fatou Bensouda said her office is continuing to investigate allegations Boko Haram extremists are killing large numbers of civilians, using girls and boys to participate in the conflict and forcing massive numbers of people from their homes.
She also warns the government of Nigeria of its obligation to prosecute crimes that “deeply shock the conscience of humanity.”http://thenationonlineng.net/new/un-okays-force-battle-boko-haram/
Politics › IBB Says He Is Glad He Received The National Identity Card While Alive by resty4(op): 7:21am On Jan 21, 2015
Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has stated that he is grateful to God to have been issued the National Identity card while alive.
According to Babangida who stated this at his Hilltop residence when the Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) led a management team to hand him his I.D. Card, said he is happy he has received his.
“I am proud I have this one while I am still alive, please keep it up. And for those who have not succeeded in enrolling, try to make sure you do it fast.
“I think if there is something one should be very proud of is being a citizen. If there is something that confirms you as a citizen then it is something to be proud of.
Speaking earlier, the DG of NIMC, Barrister Chris Onyemenam, disclosed that the identity cards are now at the stage of distribution as over six million cards are ready.
“We have started distribution of the cards to Nigerians nationwide. We started with Abuja, Lagos and Rivers states.
“Nigerians will get their cards before April. The Commission will send an SMS to phones and also notify Nigerians as soon as their cards are ready. Whoever gets SMS, should go to where he or she registered to collect his card.
The DG also appealed to Nigerians to guard their identity cards jealously as misplacement may mean paying some fee and proving genuinely that the card is truly lost to get a replacement.http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/ibb-says-he-is-glad-he-received-the-national-identity-card-while-alive/199718/

Politics › Nigerians About Religion Interference In Politics by resty4(op): 6:25pm On Jan 20, 2015
In our country, many have noticed and lamented over the fact that we Nigerians are prone to sentiments, be it religious affiliation, or belonging to a certain tribe or ethnic group, or living in a certain geographic location. For instance, the subtle issue of religion may serve as a uniting factor in any given country, but it also could split a nation into irreconcilable factions. As Nigeria is about to step into a new era by choosing her leader for the nearest four years, Naij.com has askedits readers if a political candidate’s faith matters to them, and why.
The majority of our respondents have stated that religious affiliation of the future leader does matter since it will most likely determine the fate of the rest religious groups.
Babatunde Abiodun: It is so sad that the brethren in Christ are about to make the greatest error of their lives by selling off their heritage for a mess of pottage called “change”. Change into what? Change into what happened to Egypt, Sudan, Lybia, Algeria and Turkey which were once flourishing Christian countries but because the brethren there also sold their souls on the premise of “it does not matter” they became the last set of Christians in those countries! The foundation of the planned islamization of Nigeria was laid in 1989 in Abuja by OIC. And today we may be the last Christians in Nigeria if this grave error the brethren are about to commit is not averted! Brethren, the night is here! We must contend for the faith and our heritage which was handed once and for all to us by our Lord! We will not be the last Christians in Nigeria!
Nnola Nwankwo Emma-Onwumere:Religious affiliations matter a big deal. It is obvious that most Muslims will vote for Buhari and Christians for Goodluck. Muslims believe Christians are infidels, Christians view Muslims as dangerous killers. May the Almighty God intervene and bring peace to this country!
However, a notable number of commentators, both Muslims and Christians, say that they would support a certain presidential candidate based on personal characteristics, not his religious preferences.
George F Onuche:No! It doesn’t matter. What matters is the ability to lead our nation. We need a leader, who would listen to the people regardless of their faith; a leader, who would receive criticism with an open mind and make changes where necessary. These qualities can only be found in Dr Jonathan.
Jaafaru King Rafiu:People are still thinking like small children. Buhari is not going to make Nigeria a Muslim state. If he wanted to do so why would he take a Christian as his running mate? PDP have been ruling for a long time, why not give change a chance? #Febuhari
Some Nigerians expressed their firm belief that religion should not be mixed with politics when deciding the country’s future.
Agber Solomon Luper:To me it doesn’t matter. If we put religion in the first place, we may easily miss the right person. Moreover, Nigeria is a multi-cultural country, and denying other people’s rights is unfair. So let’s just don’t allow religion to take over.
Jimah Aloaye Abdulkadir:I am Muslim. I voted for Goodluck Jonathan during the 2011 general elections. It was not an error. What matters is the progress we are making as a nation. Does poverty has religion? Does bad government has religion? PDP introduce religion because it has no chance to win 2015 elections. But we are much wiser now.
Funbi Akinlosotu: If there are university graduates among those considering religion relevant in the choice of their presidential candidate, it is a pointer to the defective educational system in Nigeria. Where the counterparts in the developed world use their brain, Nigerian graduates use their heart. Proper understanding of how political institutions and structures function will help one understand that neither a person nor a group can Islamise Nigeria.
Naseer Pharouq Alee: Nope. I will even vote for an atheist or a Hindu to be President, if he is able to move Nigeria forward. This is the XXI century and religion doesn’t matter at all.

Politics › Boko Haram: Nigeria Downplays Chad’s Move To Capture Baga by resty4(op): 9:55pm On Jan 19, 2015
In what has raised concerns over possible violation of Nigeria’s sovereignty, the Chadian government in collaboration with its Cameroonian counterpart, has sent troops to recapture Nigeria’s border town of Baga from Boko Haram insurgents, without the knowledge or approval of the Nigerian government.
The Nigerian military confirmed Monday it had no knowledge of an order by President Idriss Deby of Chad, deploying that country’s armed forces in pursuit of Boko Haram in Nigerian territory.
Regardless, defence spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, said the order makes little difference since Chad already belongs to a Multinational force alongside Nigeria, Cameroun and Niger, set up to tackle the terrorist group.
Boko Haram militants captured the town on January 3 after it sacked a base of the Multi-National Joint Task Force, MNJTF, there and unleashed terror on the civilian population in the town.
Amnesty International said over 2,000 people were killed in the attack, while the Nigerian military said the casualty figure was not more than 150.
Nigerien and Chadian troops who were part of the MNJTF had withdrawn from the town prior to the attack.
On Saturday, thousands of people marched some kilometres waving the Chadian flag in support of Chadian troops dispatched to fight Boko Haram troops in Nigerian and Cameroon.
The Chadian president, Mr. Deby, said in a speech read by the country’s head of parliament that the aim of the troops was to capture Baga.
“We answered the call of (Cameroon’s) President Paul Biya. We cannot remain indifferent to what happens to our neighbours. Cameroon must not be left alone to face this threat that has so hurt innocent people in Cameroon and in Nigeria,” said Mr. Deby.
Apparently left in the dark, the Nigerian military, however, seems confused over the development.
The Defence Spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, confirmed that the government was unaware of the deployments but said that he would need to “verify”.
“I’ll need to verify what you are saying but it is not as if everything is out of order, there is Multinational Joint Task Force which allows us to interact with forces of neighbouring countries among which they are,” he told PREMIUM TIMES.
“But even with that being the case, there cannot be solo operations in that area that will ignore the existing Nigeria’s arrangement for that area,” he added.
Security experts say the response of the Nigerian government to the development is worrying.
“The Nigerian government saying through the army spokesperson, General Olukolade that they are ‘lukewarm’ to Chad’s mission to Nigeria is very troubling to say the least. If Chad’s intentions and mission is good intended then why should the Nigerian government be kept out of the loop and be unenthusiastic? This questions the trust we as a people have in both governments. Would the Nigerian government not wish Chad assist them in rescuing occupied territories? Is there intelligence with the Nigerian administration that makes them suspicious of Chad; or are they uninterested in Nigeria’s liberation?” Peregrino Brimah, of the civil society group, Every Nigerian Do Something (ENDS).
Mr. Brimah said the announcement of Mr. Deby to his people that his troops were on a mission to re-capture Baga without informing President Goodluck Jonathan is similar to Mexico announcing it was going to rescue a troubled Texas with the knowledge of the United State government.
“Chad setting out to assist Cameroon at their request is appropriate, however for the Chadian president, Idriss Deby to announce formally to his people and to the international press that his troops will be invading Nigeria to “re-capture” Baga, without express permission and willful authorization by the Goodluck Jonathan administration is absurd. It is like Mexico deciding it will invade the United States to rescue a “plagued Texas” without the explicit approval of the United States government.”
This development is even more worrying with the allegation that elements in the Chadian and Nigerien armies are complicit in providing support for the terrorist group.
Last September PREMIUM TIMES exclusively reported that credible intelligence obtained by sources within the Chadian army linked former Governor of Borno State, Ali Sheriff and Mr. Deby to Boko Haram sponsorship. Messrs Sheriff and Deby are close friends.
“…members of Boko Haram sect are sometimes kept in Abeche region in Chad and trained before being dispersed. This happens usually when Mr. Sheriff visits Abeche,” a 2011 intelligence memo from field officers in N’djamena, the capital of Chad, read.
The report said Mr. Deby provided “ready army and possible refuge” to Boko Haram insurgents and his support for the insurgents is linked with his friendship with Mr Sheriff, a known gunrunner.
“Military reports from Biu pointed to Chadians being a major force in Boko Haram. Boko Haram courts ruling occupied parts of the northeast have been reported to be presided over by Boko Haram Chadian nationals and not even Nigerians. There are serious questions of Chad’s complicity to say the least in Boko Haram’s proliferation, the harbouring of Boko Haram terror training camps, Boko Haram’s sourcing of weapons, its trade in abducted persons and even allowing the nation be a place of retreat for wounded and fleeing terrorists and a dock where stolen properties from Nigeria are transferred,” said Mr. Brimah.
While suggesting better cooperation and trust between Nigeria and Chad, Mr. Brimah said Nigeria should not compromise on the issue of the violation of its national integrity and pride.
“Nigerians should not be forced to choose between Boko Haram terror and foreign violations of our national pride, sovereignty and international boundary laws. In the event of Chad “re-capturing” Baga; what are the terms of its returning this and other Nigerian territories to Nigeria? Such modalities should have been worked out before a Chadian proposition of a mission into Nigeria.”http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/175232-boko-haram-nigeria-downplays-chads-move-capture-baga.html

Politics › Nigerian State Weak –sanusi by resty4(op): 6:45am On Jan 18, 2015
The Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has said the taking over of some areas in Borno and the killing of 2000 people in Baga show that the Nigerian state is weak. We can’t keep quiet while people are being killed, we must fight to make sure our religion is not distorted but the state must protect us,” he pointed.
He reiterated his earlier call asking the Muslims to defend themselves against the Boko Haram insurgency in parts of the country, saying “if your enemy comes to attack you and you run away Allah will not help you.”
He commended the people who killed the terrorists who attacked Jumat Mosque in Kano last year.
The Emir who spoke at the closing ceremony of the 29th National Quranic recitation said the reason Boko Haram was still terrorizing Nigeria and taking over some Nigerian territories was because Nigeria has become a weak state.
According to him, the “first responsibility of the state is to protect lives and properties of its citizens or it loses the basis of its existence,” he said adding that Borno, Yobe, Adamawa states and any other parts of Nigeria still under the Boko Haram must be liberated, insisting that “government must defeat Boko Haram.”
Sanusi while admitting that it is the duty of government to protect lives and properties of its citizens however called on the people to stop running from the terrorists whom he said were projecting Islamic religion in an ungodly manner.
“It is extremely important that we look at the Quran which provides the most noble of behaviours and character. Selling freeborns into slavery, kidnapping of young girls and rape are unIslamic. Muslim leaders must speak up or we are guilty of complicity,” he said.
In his speech, the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Umar Gabai El Kanemi, said the Quranic recitation was the most important rallying point for Muslims which he said must be sustained. He called on Muslims to base their teachings on the Holy Quran in order not to mislead their followers.
He also called on Nigerians to live in peace, stressing that what cannot be achieved through peace can never be achieved through violence
Earlier Edo State Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said God will help the country to overcome its challenges in the North East, pointing out that there was no country in the world without its own challenges.

Foreign Affairs › Ghana, Cote D’ivoire, Others To Create New Force To Fight Boko Haram by resty4(op): 7:31pm On Jan 17, 2015
Ghanaian President John Mahama on Friday said West African leaders would next week seek authority from the African Union to create a multi-national force to fight Nigeria’s Boko Haram Islamist insurgents.
Any such force will represent the most robust international response yet to the militants who have killed thousands over the last year in their campaign for an Islamic caliphate.
The jihadists had also launched cross border attacks into Niger and Cameroon.
Boko Haram is seen as the most serious security threat to Nigeria, but Mr. Mahama said the group and militants in Somalia, Kenya, Mali and elsewhere posed a wider risk.
“Terrorism is like a cancer and it will keep growing if we do not deal with.
“It threatens everybody in the sub region, when it comes to terrorism, nobody is too far or too near.
“It will take months before an AU force could be set up and key issues such as who would command it, the location of its headquarters and its financing remain undecided.
“Once set up, however, the AU could ultimately seek a UN Security Council mandate to take over the force as happened in Sudan’s Darfur region,” he said.
Mr. Mahama was speaking as Chairman of West African regional bloc ECOWAS, which has been accused of not doing enough to combat Boko Haram.
“Nigeria is taking military action and Cameroon is fighting Boko Haram.
“But I think we are increasingly getting to the point where probably a regional or a multinational force is coming into consideration’’, he said.
The comments came two days after a former United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, urged Nigeria and the West African bloc to do more to contain Boko Haram before seeking international attention.
“What is important is that we ourselves should organize and try and contain Boko Haram, the international community can only assist. It can come but the responsibility is ours,” Mr. Annan said.http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/175129-ghana-cote-divoire-others-create-new-force-fight-boko-haram.html

Politics › 227 Soldiers Protest Dismissal By 3 Armoured Division by resty4(op): 7:13am On Jan 17, 2015
About 227 members of the Nigerian Army serving with 3 Armoured Division in Jos, who were allegedly dismissed by the military authorities on Friday protested against their General Officer Commanding (GOC), asking for the intervention of President Goodluck Jonathan.

The soldiers who stormed the Plateau State NUJ Secretariat in Jos with placards said they were unjustly dismissed without any known offence and without the benefit of fair hearing.

The leader of the protesting soldiers, Sergeant Abiona Elisha, said, “We were dismissed this week Tuesday from the service of the Nigerian Army after sending us to go and suffer fighting insurgency in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states.

“All of a sudden, we were recalled to the barracks and made to face trial. Even in the trial, we were not given the chance to defend ourselves. They just took decision and dismissed us. We were not even told what our offences were during the so-called trial.

“We are surprised that we can be treated like this in our own country. We were sent to fight insurgents without weapons. A lot of our colleagues were killed in the course of defending our fatherland. Even those who are in hospitals treating injuries they sustained from battle fields were also dismissed while still on hospital admission.

“The worst situation is that families of our colleagues killed in Adamawa and Yobe are languishing in hunger as Nigerian Army refused to pay their entitlements.
The soldiers called on the President and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Kenneth Minimah, to intervene in their case and reinstate them.

When contacted, Deputy Director of the 3 Armoured Division Jos, Col. Texas Chukwu, said : “I am not aware of the development; I just returned from Yola on Tuesday. So I am not aware of anything. Thank you.”http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/227-soldiers-protest-dismissal-by-3-armoured-division/199416/
Politics › Re: Politicinas Are Liars, I Don't Trust Them : Pastor E.A Adeboye by resty4(m): 10:19pm On Jan 16, 2015
dotun4luv:
The General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch ‎Adeboye, on Friday said he does not trust politicians.
‎
‎
Adeboye justified his position by giving an illustration with the story of three travellers – an Indian, a Jew and a politician.

He narrated that while on their journey, the three travellers had some challenges, and went to a farmer for help but the farmer said he could only accommodate two.

He said the Indian volunteered to sleep in the barn but returned a few minutes later that there was a cow there.

The Indian, according to the illustration, said he can’t sleep there because cows are gods, worshipped in his country.

Adeboye said the Jew also came back complaining that the pig inside where he was placed was unclean.

The cleric added that the politician volunteered to go and sleep among the pigs.

Instead of the politician to come back complaining, Adeboye said, it was the pig and cow that came knocking that the politician be sent away because he had promised to make the environment, including the barn, conducive with air-conditioner.

Politics › NIS Seizes 452 Pvcs, National ID Cards From Niger Republic Nationals In Sokoto by resty4(op): 4:39am On Jan 16, 2015
The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Sokoto State Command, yesterday said it had seized 452 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), identity cards and birth certificates from some nationals of Niger Republic in one year.
Speaking with journalists in Sokoto yesterday, its Controller in the state, Mr. Yunusa Aliyu, disclosed that 66 out of the number were PVCs, 33 temporary voters’ cards, as well as 271 and 69 old and new national identification cards.
Other seized national documents included one local government identification card and 12 birth certificates.
Aliyu said all the documents were seized by the officers attached to the Tureta checkpoint of the Service along Sokoto -Gusau road.
The controller pointed out that the cards which were supposed to be issued to only Nigerians, were issued in the southern part of the country.
He noted that it was difficult to differentiate between the Hausa from the North and those from the neigbhouring Niger Republic.
Aliyu pledged that officers and men of the service would continue to be diligent in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The controller announced that some officers attached to the border guard unit under the command had intercepted a stolen vehicle along the Tangaza-Balle road in the state.
He said the suspected car snatchers were stopped for a routine search by the officers but they refused to stop and fled the area.
‘’The officers consequently pursued the car thieves and they later abandoned the vehicle and fled. Although no suspect was arrested but the vehicle had since been handed over to the state police command,” he added.http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/nis-seizes-452-pvcs-national-id-cards-from-niger-republic-nationals-in-sokoto/199331/
