papaejima1:Buhari only visited 35 states during the campaign, he didn't campaign in Yobe because of security issues. That is what he is referring to, i.e. that he repeated this message of corruption, insecurity and unemployment in all the 35 states he visted. You people just like to create new topics for no good reason |
Look at Buhari looking so presidential

Mogidi:The president of Ghana was the first to visit weeks ago, is he not a christian? |
One of my favorite quote says: "Peace is not the absence of war, it is the presence of justice." Nigeria will not know peace until there is justice in the land. Poor and less connected people get burnt alive (aka jungle justice) for stealing much less, yet the rich and well connected are celebrated for much larger theft and escape prison. I was pained when I read the unjust story below... N25bn fraud: Lucky Igbinedion’s brother to pay N3m fine A Federal High Court in Benin, Edo State on Thursday sentenced a younger brother of ex-Governor Lucky Igbinedion, Michael, to a six-year jail term for N25bn money laundering offences. An aide of the ex-governor, Patrick Eboigbodin, was also jailed for 20 years for the same of offences. However, the governor’s brother has an option of paying N3m or N1m for each of the three counts on which he was found guilty to avoid going to jail. Eboigbodin sentencing on Thursday is without an option of fine. ADVERTISEMENT The two convicts and four companies had been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on an 81-count charge of money laundering during the tenure of Lucky Igbinedion as governor. The four companies are Gava Corporation Limited, Romrig Nigeria Limited, PML Securities Company Limited and PML Nigeria Limited. Justice A.M. Liman found Michael guilty on counts 79, 80 and 81 of the alleged charges while Eboigbodin was found guilty on counts 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58 and 59. The judge also ordered the forfeiture of the assets of PML Limited to the Federal Government. The company will also pay N250,000 fine. Liman noted that the prosecution had proved the alleged collaboration by the accused beyond reasonable doubts but he discharged them all on the other count charges on the grounds that the prosecution failed to prove the allegations. The judge further explained that the prosecution only proved suspicion but failed to prove illicit origin of funds deposited in the named banks. Earlier, the counsel to the first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth accused persons, Richard Ahonanuogho, acknowledged that the 10-count charges brought against his clients centred on money laundering as contained in Section 14 (1) of the Money Laundering Act (2004) and the law provided a sentence of two to three years imprisonment. He, however, urged the court to use its discretion to award a fine or apply a suspended sentence as the first accused, the ex-governor’s brother, was a first offender, in his late 50’s and had not benefited from the said offence. Counsel to the second accused, Abubakar Shamsudeen, had told the court that his client, Eboigbodin , had pleaded leniency based on his age and being a first offender and a victim of the office he occupied when the offence was committed. He, therefore, urged the court to apply an option of fine, not below N250,000 or N500,000, and not more than N1m, in lieu of imprisonment. But the counsel to the EFCC, Tayo Olukotun, urged the court not to be persuaded by the plea for leniency by the accused, arguing that their conviction would be in line with the provision of the law and that the call for suspended sentence was not within the court’s jurisdiction. The prosecution also submitted that the claim of non-criminal benefit by the first accused was not an issue because the crime had already been established. Copyright PUNCH. All rights reserved. and yet Patience Jonathan has no known source of income. Only in Nigeria. The law needs to be changed so everyone declares their income and sources of income each year. That is the only way we can fight corruption. |
OoduaVanguard:They will be goners, not gunners. Gunners is a positive word, like sharp shooters... why would a failed outgoing government be gunners like Arsenal? |
Why is the nigerian military so lacking in discipline? Buhari will sort this out I hope. I am sure this was video was made or allowed by a soldier but look at 0:16 in the video, it clearly states that the map shown is a Secret yet it has been published on the internet for the whole world, including boko haram to see. In other advanced military this could lead to a court martial |
Buhari: we have to give corruption a bloody nose. |
PassingShot:Actually, I can't see the turnout exceeding 50% or 59,000; However, Okorocha will still win even if the turnout reaches 78,928 (66.44%) and he gets zero votes. |
I am not sure Fashola has the courage nor lacks the baggage required to step on the toes of corrupt 'big men'. There are too many stories/rumours of Fashola, and Tinubu, owning lots of properties and businesses in Lagos, which could make it difficult for him to tackle corrupt people. Personally, I'd prefer Fetus Keyamo for Attorney General and Minister for Justice. |
Ahead of the May 29 formal takeover of power by the President- elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, the likely shape of his cabinet is gradually emerging. Sources told New Telegraph that the presidentelect has been holding meetings with the leadership of the party, stakeholders, close associates and personalities that influenced his election on the composition of his cabinet. Besides, it was learnt that Buhari mandated the APC National Leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, to head a team to search for “credible and competent Nigerians” who will form the cabinet of the incoming administration. Several familiar faces may surface as cabinet members in Buhari’s administration while the party leadership are expected to nominate people into the cabinet. Vice-President-elect, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, might not have influence in the choice of ministerial nominees from the South-West because of the influence of Tinubu, it was learnt. According to the sources, three outgoing governors have been pencilled in as ministers. It was learnt that the president-elect has spoken to Governors Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) and Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) on his plan to have them in his government. Fashola is being tipped for the office of Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice while Kwankwaso, already a senator-elect, is being considered for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) slot. If the proposal sails through, Kwankwaso’s appointment will follow the recent tradition where FCT Minister are picked from the Senate. Senators Adamu Ailero and Bala Mohammed were appointed FCT ministers as serving senators. With the influence of Kwankwaso, who is a former Minister of Defence, Buhari got 1.9 million votes from Kano in the March 28 presidential poll, the highest from any state. Contrary to speculations that Amaechi may be appointed as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), New Telegraph learnt that he was being considered for a ministerial appointment. Amaechi heads the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation. The three governors will be appointed as ministers on zonal basis. Fashola will represent South-West, Kwankwaso and Amaechi will take the slot for North- West and South-South respectively. Lagos, Kano and Rivers are likely to get two ministers each in the new cabinet. “The three governors will be part of Buhari’s cabinet. Don’t forget that the trio played crucial roles in the election of Buhari. Fashola was the head of Finance Committee, Amaechi was the Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation while Kwankwaso delivered the highest number of votes to the president-elect. The governors are on top priority of people to be appointed ministers. “The office of the SGF is so sensitive to the government and Amaechi does not have the temperament for the office. Surely, he will get an influential ministry,” the source said. In addition, it was gathered that a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahaman Bello Dambazau, is also being considered to be either the Minister of Defence or National Security Adviser (NSA). Dambazau, a holder of Doctorate in Criminology, was the Director of Security and Intelligence of the Buhari campaign organisation. The Secretary to the Borno State Government (SSG), Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda, is being tipped as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) or in the alternative, he will be given a ministerial appointment. Jidda has been Borno’s SSG for more than 12 cumulative years. Another figure likely to be in the Buhari’s cabinet is a former Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Wale Edun, who is a Tinubu’s protégé. Edun is presently in the United States attending the Work Bank meeting as the head of APC delegation that accompanied Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, to the event. It was learnt that Tinubu was pushing for Edun’s appointment to succeed Okonjo-Iweala. But former President Olusegun Obasanjo is rooting for erstwhile Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Charles Soludo, for the position. Obasanjo, a former Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had a running battle with President Goodluck Jonathan and campaigned for the APC, is expected to nominate people into Buhari’s cabinet. Deputy Director-General (Operations) of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation and former Lagos Speaker, Senator Olorunnibe Mamora, is being tipped as the Ogun State nominee. Former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, may represent Osun State in the cabinet. The candidacy of Oyinlola, a former National Secretary of PDP whose ouster was engineered by the party leadership before he defected to the APC, is being backed by Governor Rauf Aregbesola and Obasanjo. It was also learnt that former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, will make the Buhari cabinet. Fayemi’s choice, one of the sources told New Telegraph, was against the will of Tinubu who preferred one of his former aides from the state. But Buhari is insisting on Fayemi’s candidacy on the strength of his contribution to his victory as the Head of Policy and Strategy of the Presidential Campaign Council and his handling of the national convention of the APC which produced Buhari as the party’s candidate. Also on the list is a former Minister of Communications and onetime National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Audu Ogbeh, who is to represent Benue State in the cabinet. Ogbeh was the head of Buhari Campaign Organisation until the former military ruler picked the APC presidential ticket in the December 2014 primaries.Senator Chris Ngige, who lost his re-election, is also being considered as nominee from Anambra State. But a source said Ngige’s choice had not been finalised because his contribution to Buhari’s victory was minimal. The PDP trounced the APC in the South-East in the general elections. The APC National Vice- Chairman (North-East), Bibi Lawal, is also on the list of likely ministers. Lawal is one of the political associates of Buhari and has been with the former military ruler for more than 20 years. The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, is another figure Buhari has shortlisted for appointment as minister. There are speculations that Mohammed may head the Ministry of Information. It was also learnt that the Chief of Staff to the President-elect, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), will be given a separate appointment in the presidency but not in his present capacity. Ali is a former Military Administrator of Kaduna State. One of the sources said former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, though optimistic of a ministerial appointment, may end up as head of powerful Federal Government agency. “Though Sylva is close to Buhari, he is being considered for another appointment, but not as a minister,” the source said. But an aide of the former governor, told New Telegraph that Sylva was hopeful of a ministerial appointment. Also likely to be in the cabinet is an activist and one of the pillars of #BringbackourGirls# campaign, Hajiya Hadiza Bala Usman. Hadiza, daughter of the late Dr. Yusufu Bala Usman, the radical lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, is expected to man the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) as Special Adviser. Former Chief Economic Adviser to the late President, Tanimu Yakubu, may stage a comeback. “Tanimu will be in the government, but not likely as a minister. He will function in a different capacity,” the source said. It was learnt that a former Minister of Education and an ally of Obasanjo, Mrs. Obi Ezekwesili, was being considered for a ministerial initially, but the party leadership opposed her nomination for what it called her arrogance and hatred for the APC. However, as a departure from the PDP, the national leadership of the APC will nominate ministers for Buhari. The outgoing government of PDP has a structure of ministers being nominated by governors. A Board of Trustees (BoT) member of APC told New Telegraph yesterday in Abuja that the president- elect had conceded the power to nominate ministers into his cabinet to the national leadership of the party. He explained that the view of the presidentelect on the ministerial nominees was that if they come from the leadership of the party, every member would owe his allegiance to the party. But if they come from the governors, party members would owe their allegiance to the governors, the source added. New Telegraph, however, learnt that Buhari had saddled Tinubu with the task of searching for “credible and competent Nigerians” for the cabinet. A source said Tinubu would be assisted by Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole; former Abia State Governor, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu and Kaduna State Governorelect, Mallam Nasir El- Rufai, among others. Besides, the source added that APC leaders were apprehensive that the proposed cut in the cost of governance by the incoming Buhari administration would mean “less patronage to be dispensed by party stakeholders.” The source said one of the cardinal objectives of Buhari was to scout for “credible, competent and tested Nigerians across the geopolitical zones to hit the ground running from May 29.” He equally listed cut in costs of governance at all levels, including the National Assembly, as another major policy of the new leader. The source, who is from the South-South, also expressed optimism that the APC would have a strong footing in the oil-rich region. He said: “The first major objective of the new leadership is to ensure that a crack team, made up of credible, competent and tested Nigerians across the six geopolitical zones, is put together by the president and I think this is being spear headed by the former Governor of Lagos State who has been mandated to scout for such persons without bias.” Reacting to the composition of the incoming cabinet, Mohammed cautioned against pre-emptive comments, especially from leaders of the APC, saying only the presidentelect can make categorical statements on the policy direction of the incoming government. He said:”For God’s sake, why are we running faster than our shadows? It is highly preposterous for anyone to do this. General Buhari is a man of experience; policy direction and statements can only come from him or anyone directed by the party. “In all honesty, only the president-elect, the party chairman or the national publicity secretary can make statements as regards what direction the incoming government is going.” Source: http://newtelegraphonline.com/the-shape-of-buharis-cabinet |
LAGrejectIBO:But you can't appoint a new chief justice until the current one retires. The CJN is not a political appointment that changes every time the government changes. Unless you are saying the CJN is due to retire soon. |
oneeaast:I am not from the SS. |
zeekz:You are 97% correct but there is one APC senator, Francis Alimikhena, from Edo. Unless he is totally unfit or unqualified for the job, maybe the senate president should go to him. Anyway, I didn't realise the whole of the south south only voted one APC senator so I withdraw my case. |
BuddahMonk:I am not actually yoruba but in any case I think the senate presidency should go to the south south zone |
modath:If my or our opinion didn't matter Jonathan would be president until 2019. I know that APC and PDP leaders use nairaland and I am confident the messages and opinions in this post will get back to them. The message is, since zoning is the Nigeria way, the heads of the three arms of government should not all be northerners. |
pazienza:Actually, like I say i don't care much about zoning but since that is the Nigerian way I wanted to point out the flaw in the current zoning formula which would mean three Northerners would head the three arms of government. I would suggest that it should go to the Niger Delta. They have just lost the Presidency and, given how important that region is in terms of oil production, I would like to see someone from that region as Senate President. |
We will have a situation where the three heads of the executive, legislative and judicial arms of government are all northerners. I am not one to allocate roles based on religion, region or ethnicity but since that is the Nigerian way I thought I should point out that they (APC) have forgotten that the vice president does not head an arm of government. Therefore, it will be wrong to think that because the vice president is a southerner the senate president can be a northerner. The best way to view this and ensure true federal quota, so to speak, is to consider the roles within then context of the three arms of government. The executive will be headed by Buhari, the legislative is currently head by Mohammed so give the senate president to a southerner. |
Khd95:Yes, I was highly impressed. Boko Haram has no chance against this new Nigerian army. Morale is high and they are now heavily armed. |
VICE News traveled to Nigeria to embed with the country's army as it ramped up its fight against Boko Haram, whose rise has caused a state of emergency. As the only journalists on the front line in northern Nigeria, we witnessed the beginning of the largest military insurgency to date. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kimbo5c0Ak |
How on earth did Foyose, who was impeached in 2006 become the Governor of Ekiti again? I though the constitution says anyone who was impeached is barred from running for office. |
I totally agree with her. Isn't it the same Jonathan who was implicated in the Ekiti rigging scandal and refused to investigate it? Isn't it the same Jonathan who did nothing when his wife asked people to stone those who ask for change? Isn't it the same "I don't give a damn" Jonathan who refused to declared his assets? Isn't it the same Jonathan who did nothing when his vice president called APC a Christian party and asked northerners to vote for PDP becuase it is a more Muslim party? Isn't it the same Jonathan who waited until 6 weeks before the elections before combating Boko Haram. Isn't it the same Jonathan under whom corruption flourished like never before? Isn't it the same Jonathan who made sure the elections were postponed from the 14th of February to give himself a better chance of winning? Isn't it the same Jonathan that was busy distributing money before the election and was accused of bribing everyone including pastors? The truth is, if Jonathan was truly a hero he won't have lost the elections in the first place. Jonathan deserves praise, though, for the single act of conceding defeat and congratulating Buhari but he certainly isn't a hero. |
I agree. The minster of agriculture should be retained. He is neither a politician nor a PDP member so he can be retained to carry on and step up the good work. |
Change has arrived. No more chop I chop |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmWES_LQgtk If anything, watch from 15:50 where President-elect Buhari promised that "Boko Haram will soon know the strength of our collective will and commitment to rid this nation of terror". He then goes on to say "Furthermore, we shall strongly battle another form of evil that is even worse than terrorism, the evil of corruption. Corruption attacks and seeks to destroy our national institutions and character by misdirecting into selfish hands, funds intended for public purpose. Corruption distorts the economy and worsens income inequality, it creates a class of unjustly enriched people. Such an illegal yet powerful force soon comes to undermine democracy because its conspirators have amassed so much money that they believe they can buy government. We shall end this threat to our economic development and democratic survival. I repeat that corruption will not be tolerated by this administration and it shall no longer be allowed to stand as if it is a respected monument in this nation. I ask you to join me in resolving this and other challenges we face." |
Under the current law only serving or retired security officers (police or military) can be EFCC Chairman. The law needs to be changed to allow others to take on that role. If that happens then I would like Oby Ezekwezili or Fetus Keyamo. If the law isn't change then I would prefer Major General Ishola Williams |
He will be sacked or retired. |
Daewoods:The President and Vice President are voted for in the same election, as one team. When the presidential candidate is voted in his vice presidential candidate is also voted in and the same applies when the president is voted out. Therefore, Sambo was voted out along with Jonathan and will be replaced by Yemi Osibanjo. |
clubone0501:No, minister of petroleum. We need a courageous man who can take on the vested interest in that industry and clean up the corruption, especially in the NNPC. That is what Buhari promised to do and Amaechi, with his experience as Governor or key oil producing state, is the man to lead it. |
badassProdigy:It should be 1 + 2+ 9(not 8 ).... for PDP, which adds up to 29. |
oh no! They seem to be doing it all over again, probably transferring the same results to another paper. |
TheGoodJoe:If Borno state arrived in the afternoon then all this would have been happening in the afternoon and ended in the evening. Perhaps in 2011 the last state declared their result earlier in the day |
