So she told me how her husband has been maltreating her and she told me her husband is cheating on her. She told me she has always admired me but don't know how to tell me.

Though I noticed this but decided to overlook it. She said she wants a tight relationship with me and I should keep it secret, telling me she finds me attractive. I was just surprised because I never expected her to say all this.

There are a thousand and one reasons for doing whatever, including quitting a job. Just borrow one. E.g,
- Your attention in urgently needed in the village to resolve some extended family issues for which you need 2 weeks off (U may just be asked to resign or told you will be replaced)
- Your out-of-town uncle has suddenly turned a new leaf and invited you for a prospect in his biz, u want to try it out
- Fall sick, get 5days off work medical report and subsequently let them know Doctor asked you to take things easy hence you need some elongated rest and have to resign
Just look for a diplomatic excuse and move on.

NB: Next time you are roped in, reference will be made to the stolen money to buttress the accusation and you may not be lucky as before.
