Nairaland / General / Unveiling The Shadows: Lessons Learned From Helping The Poor by RiyadhGoddess(f): 1:10pm On Jun 20, 2023
In a world where poverty persists, the scriptures remind us that the poor will always be amongst us. However, in this present generation, it seems that the concept of poverty has taken a different form—a generation that lacks respect and moral values. I find myself questioning if the biblical reference to the poor encompasses the individuals we encounter today, particularly those in socio-economic classes D and E. These are the very people we extend a helping hand to, only to be repaid with malevolence. It is disheartening to witness how they tarnish our characters, spreading slander and defamatory remarks. I, too, have experienced bitter encounters with this subset of the poor.

I have invested significant amounts of money in these individuals—buying a car, paying their school fees, providing shelter, adopting them into my life, offering them a better future. I have cared for their children, employed them, given them thousands of naira, facilitated their relocation abroad, and even covered their rent. Yet, instead of gratitude, I have been met with betrayal. They have repaid my kindness with wickedness, maligning my name and engaging in acts of sabotage and conspiracy. Each time I face such circumstances, I am tempted to sever ties with the poor, to distance myself from this class of people. I have made my stance clear to my family and close friends, declaring that I no longer want them in my vicinity. However, due to the teachings of Jesus and His commandment to love, I find myself drawn to them out of empathy, overlooking the wounds they have inflicted, and offering assistance once again. Yet, the cycle continues, and they reciprocate my goodwill with further acts of malevolence.

One incident that particularly stands out in my memory involves an individual I rescued from the slums. I facilitated her relocation abroad, financed her needs, and harbored greater plans to improve her life. However, she chose to betray my trust, plotting to cause harm and falsely implicating me in a matter I was innocent of. It was only by the intervention of God that I was vindicated and spared from the depths of trouble. These experiences have left me contemplating whether my misfortune with people stems from mere luck or a deeper truth. I have become apprehensive about helping the poor, fearing the consequences that may follow.

Despite my reservations, I cannot ignore the biblical admonitions regarding the poor. However, recent events surrounding Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, a renowned pastor, philanthropist, and founder of Omega Power Ministry in Port Harcourt, have given me pause for thought. The story unfolded when a group of young men known as the Happie Boys, who were unjustly dismissed from their workplace at Chicken Republic in Nigeria, caught the attention of Apostle Chinyere. Touched by their plight, he pledged to sponsor their education abroad, ultimately fulfilling his promise by sending them to Cyprus.

Regrettably, these boys have now turned against the very person who changed their lives. Forgotten are the acts of kindness that lifted them out of suffering and brought them to Europe. Forgotten are the investments made on their well-being. Instead, driven by their desire for financial gain and luxurious lifestyles, they have resorted to tarnishing the pastor's reputation. They have resorted to ridicule and even labeled him a ritualist on social media. This revelation further solidified my belief that the poor, as a collective, possess a similar mindset. It seems that regardless of the good bestowed upon them, they are inherently predisposed to inflicting harm in return. They are an ungrateful and insatiable group, often pretending loyalty until their desires are fulfilled, at which point they transform into wolves in sheep's clothing.

It is important to note that this personal reflection does not aim to dissuade others from helping the poor. Rather, it serves as a testament to my own experiences throughout the years and the recent lessons learned from the Apostle Chinyere and Happie Boys saga. It is crucial to discern and choose the recipients of our benevolence wisely. Helping the wrong individuals can lead to painful repercussions. May we never become bitter individuals due to our acts of kindness, and may we never find ourselves in a state of regret and pain as a result of our good deeds. While caution is necessary, let us not completely abandon those in need, for there are still genuine souls who deserve our compassion and assistance.

Religion / Re: Melodies Of Faith: When Songs Speak Divine Messages by RiyadhGoddess(f): 8:09pm On Jun 19, 2023
FxMasterz:

This is a blessed read.

Most times, those songs come in paced successions, carrying the same message with each recent song lifting up the soul into higher realms of faith and comfort. And when those songs are hymns, you could get lost in a wave of God's mighty Presence for the whole day. The experience is indiscribable.

Most times when I reminisce on the sweet experiences we enjoy as children of God and remember how unbelievers and atheists forcefully oppose themselves when approached with the gospel, I cannot help but think "Oh, if only they know what they're missing."

Incredible Experience 👌

Religion / Melodies Of Faith: When Songs Speak Divine Messages by RiyadhGoddess(f): 3:59pm On Jun 19, 2023
Have you ever experienced the strange phenomenon of dropping a call only to have a song instantly fill your heart? It's a peculiar occurrence that I recently found myself caught up in. A month had passed since I had entrusted a vendor with an important job, but I had yet to receive any updates. The due date had come and gone, leaving me anxious and impatient. I was reluctant to disturb them with a phone call, fearing complaints of annoyance as had happened before, though I hesitated. However, this morning, I mustered the courage to dial their number, desperate for any information. The report I received wasn't entirely satisfactory, but I had no choice but to remain patient.

As soon as I ended the call, a long-forgotten song sprang to life within me. Its lyrics resounded with a profound message: "All Things Are Working Out For My Good..." The tune persisted, but I was too preoccupied with my other responsibilities to pay it much attention. Still, it refused to fade away. Before I knew it, my lips began to move in harmony with the melody, and I found myself singing aloud. After repeating the chorus several times, the significance of the lyrics struck me. I paused, contemplating the message they conveyed—God was assuring me that everything was unfolding for my benefit, and it was all part of a greater plan. This realization filled me with immense joy and relief. These moments, when songs unexpectedly stir within us, are not mere coincidences; they are messages from God. God is speaking to us, addressing the very situation we find ourselves in.

Sometimes, these songs arrive in succession, one after another. Just ten minutes after the first song played in my heart, engrossed in my work once more, a new melody emerged. Its lyrics proclaimed, "Alpha, Omega, Besides You There Is No Other God." What astounded me was that these were songs I hadn't heard or sung in years. I sat down, reflecting on the lyrics and their underlying meaning. Was God reminding me that He is the Alpha and Omega—the beginning and the end? Was He assuring me that He is the sole creator and orchestrator of all things? Instantly, I felt a sense of solace and relief wash over me, as anxiety melted away. It became evident that these songs were messages meant for me, to reinforce my faith and trust in God's plan.

Whenever you encounter such moments—when songs spontaneously emerge in your heart, or when you chance upon them from a distance—sing them aloud. Don't confine them to the recesses of your being; let them resound loudly, repeatedly, until their essence permeates your soul. Sing them until you find yourself dwelling in the truth they convey. For in those moments, God is communicating with you, sending His message through melodies. These songs can even manifest in dreams—I've experienced this firsthand, waking up to find myself immediately singing the melodies that had enveloped me in sleep. So sing them out triumphantly, with unwavering assurance, knowing that God is intimately involved in every aspect of your life.

Religion / Embracing The True Calling: Beyond Money And Fame by RiyadhGoddess(f): 12:27pm On Jun 18, 2023
In a world obsessed with self-proclaimed prophets, apostles, bishops, and pastors, it is crucial to reflect upon the sacrifices of those who laid the foundation of the gospel we cherish today. Consider the prophet Isaiah, who was brutally cut in half for his unwavering devotion to spreading the good news. Picture apostle John, submerged in a pot of boiling oil, enduring unimaginable agony for his faith. And think of apostle Peter, crucified upside down, choosing the ultimate sacrifice to honor Jesus. These early Christians did not seek grandiose churches or personal gain, they prioritized winning souls for Christ.

Yet, in the present era, we witness a stark contrast. Many individuals parade themselves as spiritual leaders, adorned with titles of apostles and prophets, but fail to grasp the true essence of Jesus' name. The question lingers: are these individuals truly servants of God or merely seekers of personal glory? The passion to serve God and His people seems overshadowed by materialistic pursuits. The lure of money, fame, and social media followers has clouded the genuine purpose of their calling.

Let us be reminded that a divine calling is not a pathway to accumulate wealth, nor is it a means to gain popularity or endorsements. The core of our calling lies in the establishment of God's kingdom, in the glorification of the name of Jesus, and in the earnest endeavor to win souls for Him. The early martyrs understood this unequivocally, they embraced a faith that transcended earthly desires and focused on the eternal significance of their mission.

Amidst the prevailing cultural climate, we must reclaim the true essence of our calling. Let us resist the allure of worldly temptations and reaffirm our commitment to the cause of Christ. Remember, the purpose of our calling is not to accumulate riches but to enrich the lives of others. Our duty is to shed light in the darkness, to extend a hand of compassion, and to proclaim the message of hope and redemption.

In a world captivated by superficial displays of opulence, let us stand firm in our conviction to serve God wholeheartedly. Our calling should not be diluted by the pursuit of personal gain, nor should it be tainted by the desire for fleeting fame. Instead, it should be anchored in humility, driven by a passion to make a difference in the lives of those we encounter.

May this generation rekindle the fire that burned within the hearts of the early Christians. May we reject the path of self-serving ambitions and embrace the sacrificial love that defined our predecessors. Let us seek God's guidance in fulfilling our true calling, allowing His grace to shape our every action and decision.

As you reach the end of this reflection, consider sharing it with others who may also benefit from its message. By subscribing to my newsletter (please see my signature), you can embark on a journey of deepening your Christian faith through captivating and thought-provoking writings. Together, let us rediscover the essence of our calling and endeavor to make a lasting impact for the glory of God.

It's natural to occasionally think about past experiences and relationships but dwelling on them for too long can hinder personal growth and prevent you from fully accepting new opportunities. You know time is a powerful healer and as you allow it to pass, it gradually eases the hurts you may have experienced. Now you need to accept that a previous chapter has come to an end, doing so frees you to move forward with hope and anticipation for what lies ahead. Each new chapter will bring you fresh possibilities and chances for growth, so it's important for you to keep progressing on your journey and remain open to the exciting future that awaits you.

Religion / The Sufferings And Love Of Jesus: Reflecting On Isaiah 53 by RiyadhGoddess(f): 8:50am On Jun 11, 2023
Introduction:
In the midst of reflecting on the powerful words of Isaiah 53, my mind wandered to the vivid scenes from the movie "Passion of The Christ." The agonizing beatings, the piercing of nails, and the immense pain that Jesus endured during his crucifixion came rushing back to my memory. It made me ponder, "Is this what Isaiah 53 truly speaks of?" In this article, we will delve into the sufferings of our Savior, Jesus Christ, as prophesied by the prophet Isaiah.

The Lowly Appearance and Unbelief:
Isaiah 53:1-3 vividly portrays the humble state to which Jesus submitted himself. His physical appearance was far from the grandeur and pomp that the Jews expected from their Messiah. Instead, Jesus grew up like a young plant, described as a root in dry ground. His countenance did not attract attention, making people mock and reject him. Even his closest friends abandoned him. Throughout his life, Jesus experienced not only humility but also immense sorrow, enduring various pains and afflictions.

The Disdain and Rejection of Jesus:

It is disheartening to realize that, despite all that Jesus went through for us, there are still unbelievers who treat him with disdain and insignificance. His name disgusts them, and they reject his teachings and gospel. I can personally relate to this, as I once held similar views before experiencing the saving grace of Jesus in my life. However, there are countless souls who remain unsaved, still despising and rejecting the doctrine and gospel of Jesus.

Bearing Our Sufferings:
Verse 4 of Isaiah 53 highlights the incredible truth that Jesus willingly took upon himself our suffering and pain. Yet, many struggle to grasp the full understanding of this act of love. Some interpret it as God's punishment upon Jesus, but that is not the case. Jesus was punished because of our sins. He was crushed and bore the weight of our transgressions. Instead of us facing the consequences, Jesus willingly took our place. He carried our sins, offering us salvation, healing, and the spirit of peace.

Silent Love:
Verse 7-8 resonates deeply, describing how Jesus endured mistreatment without protest. Like a silent lamb led to slaughter, he did not open his mouth in self-defense. Even when subjected to unfair judgment and taken away by force, Jesus remained silent. This humble submission and unconditional love demonstrated by Jesus deeply humbles us. How many of us would endure such treatment without uttering a word? Jesus' love for us goes beyond human comprehension.

Releasing Our Burdens:
We must ask ourselves how many of us continue to carry the pains, griefs, and sorrows that Jesus has already borne on our behalf. Jesus took them upon himself, providing us with the opportunity to release them and experience freedom. The work of Jesus is available to transgressors, but it requires acknowledging our own transgressions and reaching out to receive his salvation. We must surrender our burdens to Jesus, allowing his sacrifice to bring us true liberation.

Conclusion:
Reflecting on Isaiah 53 deepens our understanding of the sufferings and love of Jesus Christ. Through his humble appearance, his endurance of scorn and rejection, and his silent sacrificial love, Jesus paved the way for our redemption and salvation. Let us not carry burdens that have already been borne by Jesus. Instead, let us release them and receive the freedom and peace that he offers. The Painful but Purposeful Goodbyes: Understanding God's Design in Relationships

In life, people enter our lives and then leave, sometimes causing us deep pain and leaving lasting scars. I have experienced the heartache of seeing individuals I invested in, hoping to give them a better life, choose to return to their former destructive patterns. It is disheartening to witness the gratitude we once received being replaced by indifference or even acts of betrayal. After pouring days, months, and years into their well-being, it is natural to question whether our acts of kindness were in vain.

These experiences have made me realize that some goodbyes, however painful, serve a greater purpose. Every person God brings into our lives has a destined time frame, even though we often desire their presence indefinitely. We fear losing them, believing we cannot navigate life without them. Yet, the truth is that these individuals have predetermined roles and durations in our journey. Some are meant to stay forever, while others are temporary passengers on our life's path.

Family members, friends, romantic partners, spouses, and even our own children may be among those who forget the good we have done for them, choosing to return to their previous destructive habits. They disregard the sacrifices and efforts we made on their behalf, seemingly discarding them in an instant. Although this can be deeply painful, I have come to understand that God orchestrates these separations.

Sometimes the separation is abrupt and unexplainable to both parties involved. Other times, it comes with messy situations and scandals. Regardless of how the parting unfolds, it is divinely directed. It is okay to grieve, to shed tears when God separates us from loved ones or those close to our hearts. Yet, we must trust that these separations serve a greater purpose in our lives.

God intentionally cuts off certain individuals to shield us from future problems and to facilitate our growth and advancement in our life's purpose. There are people who are not meant to accompany us in the next phase of our journey, and God lovingly removes them. The pain we experience in saying goodbye is not in vain. It is a necessary step toward adopting the new level and the remarkable blessings that await us.

Through my own past and present experiences, I have learned that God's divine timing governs the duration of relationships. Although we may desire to hold onto certain individuals forever, we must surrender to the knowledge that God knows what is best for us. His plan encompasses both the joys and the sorrows of our relational journey.

So, when the goodbyes come, let yourself hurt and cry if needed. Acknowledge the pain, but also accept the understanding that these separations are for your ultimate good. Trust in God's wisdom and guidance, for He sees the bigger picture of your life. As you let go and move forward, focus on the new phase that lies ahead, eagerly anticipating the extraordinary things destined to come your way.

In conclusion, the painful goodbyes we experience serve a higher purpose. While it may be difficult to comprehend in the midst of the pain, these separations are part of God's plan to shape and elevate us. Embrace the transitions, knowing that the goodbyes are not in vain. Trust in God's perfect timing and allow yourself to grow, knowing that the new chapters ahead hold incredible blessings.
