Mike..ZA:It is you and the misguided person who liked you I feel sorry for. The Grifo-7 is an Italian radar, not French. http://babriet.tripod.com/airforce/stat/statgrifo.htm It is you who doesn't understand the capabilities of the PL-9 hence your ignorance, Mr Hollywood. And by the way, I didn't say the A-Darter is a radar guided missile (not that I care), but that your Gripen would have to get a lot closer in order to engage the F-7 which also has an infrared missile, olodo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PL-9 Please read the links this time and stop fantasising. |
Mike..ZA:You are the comedian, the F7s radar has longer tracking capabilities than you stated; Heavily modernized aircraft with some basic 4th generation technology. Armament includes advanced 42 km range Italian Grifo-7 radar with ECM, sophisticated 22 km range PL-9C air to air missiles, bombs, and air to ground rockets. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigerian_Air_Force Your Gripen still has to get close and personal in order to be effective and no use saying that a BVR missile will be operational this year and it can't be included until it is active. Nigeria is expecting a lot of arms this year and we aren't using them in current scenarios. As for your other posts, usual Hollywood fantasy stuff. |

Fighter Pilot: F-7 Ni is just like Innoson, there is no where you can class it. Both have been made from cheap parts which wear easily. As opposed to overpriced western parts? ![]() |
Fighter Pilot: Chinese products are affectionately called Fong Kong in SA and we know well that they are being patronised by the likes of you. My friend Chinese have a tendency of taking Africans for granted and when they see us they perceive us as block heads who cannot think of anything that involves technology but war.Continue to under-estimate at your own peril. It is better than western products that come with strings attached and virtually no technological transfers whatsoever (they want you to remain backward while they sell over priced products). Who then is the blockhead? |
Fighter Pilot: F-7 Nigeria are low cost fighter jets, they are meant to meet Nigeria half way and currently they are written danger everywhere with a capital letter D "You obviously don't know that Nigerian F-7ni pilots have been thrilling the residents of Makurdi for a few months now at NAF TAC. I take it that other countries are not dedicated to producing their products then? |
Chinese arms are getting better and better as the years go by. Keep paying over inflated prices for western products (in order to pay inflated wages)which also come with many technical problems from being over elaborate and ambitious. |
chris365: Leave the boy make he dey talk nonsense.Make u no mind the fantasist jare! Na Hollywood or bust for am. |
Mike..ZA:WHITE ELEPHANTS . |
Mike..ZA:Man (boy) are you deluded or what? If China produces inferior weapons, why is the WEST afraid of China (including the US)? If you are big brother to us, why is our economy now bigger than yours? By the way, Nigerians also invest in SA as do other countries. |
Fighter Pilot: Over-rated yet is helping you to industrialise. So what is your problem then? You first said we are not industralised, now you are quarelling over SA investment in Nigeria. Are you worried you will be overtaken? Oh! sorry, you already have been by Nigerias economy. |
Fighter Pilot: @Agaugust:You mean with all the under utilised white elephant stadia you have after the world cup? |
Fighter Pilot: Widows of policemen killed by Boko Haram beg the government for jobs as cleaners. What a bird brain. First of all you are quoting Premium Times, which is laughable. Did you even read the article? Even Premium Times has quoted the fact that benefits are waiting to be paid and they will be supported. Sometimes things take time but they are always compensated. So you have shifted from the Military to the Police? Didn't find anything then for the military? That is because they are always compensated . |
Mike..ZA:As I thought, relying on the net. |
scipher: if this thread gets to a thousand, I'll find you all and kill you one by OneFunny, good luck with that . |
Mike..ZA:And how do you know this? Were you present when weapons were being tested? ![]() |
Fighter Pilot: Even somebody who hasn't gone to school can become a soldier in Nigeria. Now you are showing even more ignorance . |
ZDee: Yes y'all don't except it, but you love viewing gay porn online.Lots of people view porn on line, doesn't mean they want homosexuality/lesbianism as the norm. So I suppose the high number of r*pe/s*xual assault cases in South Africa is a consequence of SAs viewing porn online. The act is not natural, and won't be accepted in Nigeria, simple. Now back to military matters as this thread is not a gay counselling forum. |
Fighter Pilot: The worst profession in Nigeria is to become a soldier. It is like becoming a street sweeper in SA.Now this is from someone who hasn't got anything more to say .You obviously have no idea of the competition for places to enlist in the Nigerian Armed Forces . |
Mike..ZA:Please go a few pages back and look for the entry. The hump you see towards the rear (between the wings) is the ELINT addition. This was done towards the end of last year in Scotland. Stop arguing just for the sake of it. We don't have to tell you, we can let you fester in ignorance to boost your morale. |
The article below was culled from a beegeagle blogger, but there was no link; Security forces raid Boko Haram camps in Borno forests JANUARY 4, 2014 BY FIDELIS SORIWEI 5 Comments JTF | credits: File copy The Nigerian military is carrying out sustained ground and aerial raids on camps of members of the Boko Haram sect in Borno State. Investigations on Thursday revealed that the special forces had cleaned out several camps of the insurgents in the Sambisa forest in the state. A security source who confided in our correspondent said that the operation was one of the biggest since the escalation of the activities of the Boko Haram in the North Eastern part of the country. It was gathered that the security forces started the operation in the early hours of December 31, 2013, as a preemptive action against the insurgents who were said to have been engrossed with plans to launch multiple attacks on the Borno State Capital, Maiduguri. It was learnt that the ongoing operation involved heavy deployment of ground troops and Nigerian Air Force helicopters and fighter jets. Our correspondent learnt that several high caliber artillery weapons were deployed in the face-off with the insurgents. The source said that artillery weapons were deployed in such large numbers because of the calibre of weapons at the disposal of the insurgents and their audacious attacks on military formations recently. As at the time of filing this story, the operation to flush out the insurgents from the forests of the State was still ongoing. The source said that scores of insurgents had been killed in the sustained ground and aerial offensive, even though, the source could not put a figure to the number of the dead. The current operation is one of the several operations carried out by the Special Forces in combating the insurgents in the country. The Special Forces had carried out a major ground and aerial operation on the camps of the insurgents at the vast Sambisa Forest in May, 2013 which resulted in the destruction of the camps and the seizure of arms and ammunition from the insurgents. Several people were also killed in the operation. Investigations, however, revealed that the Special Forces commenced the recent operation following the discovery that the insurgents were still operating from camps in the heart of the long forest. The Special Forces were said to have discovered that the insurgents planted mines deep into the forest for the Nigerian troops. It was said that the current operation was meant to ensure that no such camps were left in the forest. Prior to this operation, the Nigerian Security operatives foiled what would have been a major Boko Haram attack on Maiduguri, on Tuesday, December 31, a day to the New Year. Investigations revealed that the Special Forces arrested 10 of the insurgents and killed one other in the operation. The security operatives are also said to be on the trail of 18 other insurgents who were said to be attempting to flee Maiduguri. A security source had said on Tuesday that the insurgents dispatched a 30- man team to carry out surveillance activities on strategic places in the state to counter a planned attack on the city on New Year’s Eve. According to the source, luck ran out on the insurgents when one of the operatives on the spy mission was apprehended at the park of the Borno Express Transport Company by the drivers of the transport firm who suspected his unusual conduct. |
Fighter Pilot: That is the truth my friend, or do you want me to go on details about every point starting with your budget and end with poor salaries and equipments. Please feel free. You are not privy to what is going on in the armed forces regarding re-arming, up-arming and expansion. Do you think all purchases come from the allocated defence budget? Keep deceiving yourself, it doesn't matter how many newspaper articles you paste here, the evidence is on the ground and happening whether you acknowledge it or not. |
Fighter Pilot: Can South Africa help Nigeria to industrialise?Aren't other countries helping South Africa develope it's industries or are you saying SA is fully industralised? In this way, we will surpass you by getting investments from all over the world as well as developing local talent. As I said, continue to wallow on your ignorance. |
Fighter Pilot: Large military but still with poor resouces, poor salaries, poor education, poor organisation, small military budget, etc.Continue to wallow in ignorance about what you know nothing about. |
agaugust: nigerian army is 3 times the size of south african army, and we are always busy in one war or the other for the past 25 yearsAnd still expanding. Nigerian Army is about to set up it's 7th Division in the South South region (Niger Delta) Which will have full spectrum of amphibious warfare. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/01/fg-establish-9000-strong-army-division-ssouth/ |

FG’s priority in 2014 is to tackle Boko Haram insurgency – Maku By Wale Odunsi on December 29, 2013@waleodunsi Nigeria’s information Minister, Labaran Maku, has said flushing out the Boko Haram insurgency remains top priority of the Federal Government. According to him, government succeeded in containing terrorism in the North-East of Borno and Yobe in the last one year. Maku, who spoke in a phone-in programme on Radio Nigeria, said the massive deployment of men and material through the establishment of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri had stemmed the tide of attacks by insurgents in the North-East. Maku, who is also the Supervising Minister of Defence, said due to the huge investments required to set up an Army Division, government had prioritised the provision of funds to construct military barracks and other formations and infrastructure as well as the training of personnel and the provision of the necessary equipment to wipe out the activities of insurgents operating in the North-East. He disclosed that Nigeria was working to secure the support of Cameroon to halt the infiltration of the country by insurgents, who carry out occasional attacks in isolated locations in the sub-region, via the Cameroon border. “The recent attacks on Bama as we know came from across the border of Cameroon. We are working hard to reach out to the Cameroonian government and other international agencies to ensure that we continue to put pressure on the insurgency from both sides of the boundary so that in the end, by the grace of God, we should witness greater successes against the insurgency in 2014. “What is clear is that in the year 2013, tremendous success was made and most of the insurgents that infiltrated into other states from the North-East when the pressure went there, were picked up. Some were picked up as far away as Lagos and Ogun and a number of them are in detention and trial is going on gradually”, he said. The minister acknowledged that insurgency in the form of urban and rural guerrilla warfare could not be eradicated overnight through military intervention – as experience had shown in other countries with similar challenges. He added that it required concerted efforts by both the government and citizens in intelligence gathering and the provision of useful information by members of the public for security agents to flush out the insurgents. He further stated that the Federal Government was intervening in the economic recovery of the North-East following the devastation and socio-economic setback suffered by the sub-region due to the insurgency. “The President in the Economic Forum on the North-East, unfolded a new agenda for the economic support of the North-East. From this year’s budget, some provision is now being made to really give the North-East support. “What is seen in the budget is not the end of the matter. There will be a lot of other support coming in and what will unfold will enable the Federal Government, international agencies, friendly governments abroad and also the private sector to make special contributions for the development of the North-East”, he said. He said despite the inherited security challenges which were mainly induced by local politics in the North-East, with severe consequences on the economic growth in the region, President Jonathan recorded tremendous successes in economic and social development in the last three years. Maku said, “In the last three years of the present leadership, we have recorded 7 per cent GDP growth. This is the highest we have recorded in the last 20 years”. He cited the feat as a landmark having achieved the percentage of GDP to national debt as low as 21 percent when compared to South Africa 42.7 per cent; USA 106 per cent; UK 90 per cent and Japan 225 per cent. According to him, the exchange rate remained stable; foreign reserve grew to over $45 billion (N7.2 trillion); domestic production particularly in agriculture and industries increased while inflation decreased from 12 per cent to 8 percent in 2013 as a result of stable macroeconomic management. The Minister disclosed that government was fighting corruption through systematic methods by applying technology to block the loopholes hitherto exploited to siphon public money from the treasury. He mentioned that the Integrated Payroll and Personal Information System (IPPIS) introduced in 15 ministries, departments and agencies had so far saved N118 billion paid to ghost workers and the Government Financial Management and Information System, which networks and monitors financial transactions in all ministries, departments and agencies. Maku noted that because of the economic expansion, 2 million jobs were created in 2013 mainly through agriculture and industries. Furthermore, the minister said Nigeria remained the preferred destination for foreign direct investments in Africa with the record of $7 billion (N1.1 trillion) investments from reputable companies such as General Electric which was constructing a manufacturing plant at the Calabar Free Trade Zone, the Onne Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone where 150 companies are operating, Indorama Eleme Fertilizer and Chemical Limited in Rivers State, Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Plant in Ondo State, Siemens Plant in Lagos among others. He remarked that the rebound of the capital market, which collapsed before the advent of the present administration had given foreign investors confidence to invest in the Nigerian economy. Maku said the Stock Market Index has risen by 71 per cent since 2012 while Stock Market Capitalisation increased by 66 percent since 2012 to N11.8 trillion. He, therefore, lambasted the political opposition for crying wolf over the performance of the economy and urged Nigerians to disregard the opposition who were only bent on downplaying the performance of the economy in their quest to capture power in the 2015 general elections. http://dailypost.com.ng/2013/12/29/fgs-priority-2014-tackle-boko-haram-insurgency-maku/ |
