PhonesRe: How Smartphone Makers Are Defrauding Nigerians by Rockstar07: 7:36am On Jun 10, 2016
TechRez:
A case where phone makers deliberate set out to rip off the wallet of Nigerians with juicy marketing, only to make a U-turn and do what they ought to do in the first instance. What do I mean? Now, I have seen a couple of phone makers make a certain phone with 1GB RAM, and then 3-months later, they release the same phone with 2GB RAM and add appellations like “Plus, Max, Pro” at the end of the original name. These OEM’s have no “trade-in” policy, they deliberately want Nigerians to dump their new phone and purchase the same phone with a re-branded name. Ouch!

For other phone makers, they make the two variant, 1GB RAM and 2GB RAM, release only the 1GB version in Nigeria and send the two 2GB version to Kenya and UAE because those countries have a government – This is fraud!

The United States has a regulatory body called FCC that checks the quality and authenticity of phones coming into their country. Even the highly rated Xaiomi had a tough time entry the U.S market because of the standards the Chinese OEM had to meet.

Over here in Nigeria, the Standard Organization of Nigeria and NCC allows anything into Nigeria, as if our dear country is dumping ground for some of these phones that should be destroyed at the shores of Nigeria.

I earlier decried the so-called Yezz Mobile Jumia wanted to flood into the market, I am glad the brand was dead on arrival. There are other OEM’s who have established their brand in Nigeria, but now take us for granted with their bizarre business policy – This is fraud, it is dumb and delusional.

It’s even more disheartening that some OEM’s create phones without parts and accessories. They don’t want to offer repair services even when they know their stuff is inferior, they want you to keep buying the same sh!t with the money they don’t deserve.

That said, we all know that several billions of Naira had been injected into the region in the past years and were swallowed by some greedy set of peeps for personal gains.
The question is, what's the FG master plans and blueprints for the development of the region. It's not only to release money to some sets of greedy animals it's about following up that the money and are utilized approprately or Is that toouch for govt to do?

This is a Very wrong perception. Because the price of the Phone is Low doesn't mean it's a hard quality. Other manufacturers can chose to use more expensive materials but I think Tecno is Different. They have a Target customers and dole out Quality phones.

Well, you have probably not been fortunate with tecno phones. I have been using 8H for 2 years with no issue.
It doesn't change the fact that Tecno manufacturers use inferior materials hence the low price. They'll never sell it cheap if they use better quality materials as compared to HTC, Samsung etc... I believe this shouldn't be a rocket science.

Maximum83:
Tecno Mobile Nigeria has recently released a device with the longest battery life in the country. The device Tecno L8 combines power and style. The battery is insanely huge at 5050mAh lasting up to 3 days of constant usage and the design is an all metal build body. Come with me as I review the Tecno L8

Design and display

Tecno L8 has an impressive design when compared to other Tecno’s “L” series devices. It has a full metallic body which is premium looking but feels a bit heavy in the hands.

There are different colours of the device which even makes it appealing and fashionable. I love the Grey Colour, it's so sturdily build and is the unit I have with me. The phone comes with diagonal 5.5-inch IPS Capacitive display with a resolution measuring 720 x 1280 pixels and 267ppi display density that is not too ugly for a lower mid-range phone.

Battery

Will the battery live to the hype by Tecno as being the phone with the longest battery life? You will be able to tell at the end of this review. I got the device few days ago I have been using the phone with my main Sim card inside. I set up my Instagram and whatSApp all running, I am not the gaming type, but I love playing music and videos.

I did little browsing at interval using wifi but my Instagram has been the most busy of the apps. I also used it to receive calls and today is the 3rd days I have been using it and this is my battery percentage. So you can judge for yourself if the battery is worth the hype or not

Reverse Charging

With the reverse charging on the tecno L8, there is no need for a power bank as the phone can be used to charge other devices. I tested this technology and is working smoothly. However I discovered that this device doesn’t really charge fast I may be wrong though because I expect it to charge to full capacity within 2hrs but it takes more than 2hrs to fully charge

Performance & Camera

A MediaTek Quad-Core processor clocking in at 1.3GHz runs the show on the Tecno L8. The smartphone has a built in storage of 16GB which can further be expanded up to 64GB using its
micro SD card slot. There is a 1GB of RAM that is reasonably fair for a device in this price range.

Camera

It sports an 8.0MP rear camera with a led flash alongside front facing snapper of just 2.0MP that may be of interest to those fond of selfies. The rear camera produces decent output in a well-lit condition but the low light aspect is poor. The rear flash is very bright for taking night photos

Conclusion
If you are fan of phone with good battery life, then falling in love with this device will not be hard decision to make. For me, it is freedom from the constant reminder that one needs to charge every day, especially in a country where access to constant electricity is a mirage. The device is available at a retail price of N29, 999.
Mtcheww, i wish tecno phones can be paced with ..... undecided. I find it difficult to conclude that tecno can set pace with the like of Samsung, LG, HTC, BB10 even Nokia. My experience with the gadget compare to other brand is nothing to write home about.

The flipping tenco phones barely last more than 24 months before they start developing issues. The common issue i observed is the OS. In as much that Andriod is an open sourced in which phones manufacturer edit the OS to suit their taste. i'd say tecno editing is substandard cos the OS usually have issues after some couple of months of usage. Well, maybe that's why they're cheap anyway huh

This holiday wasn't bad tho. So my friend and I visited one of the Stripper Club at Allen. Based on my assessment, this club's one of the best six stripper club in Allen avenue.

So many sweet chicks here and there going around unclad. One reason i like this club's that it's located in a coded area with less guests and more girls. So there're so many of them over us.
I really enjoyed one particular girl, I believed she enjoyed me too cos we obvious broke the rules of the club. it's really sweet place to go but one can finish the whlole naira with you...lol

Relocating the market is a good one but will that solve the root cause of inter tribal clashes?

Should such clash re occur after the relocation what next?

Our solutions to problems should not only be a quick fix but one that addresses the root cause of the problem.
One of the ways to address the rrot cause's to relocate them ASAP. What do you think Boss?

As good as the move sounds, they should also remember that Ikorodu is probably the fastest growing residential area in Lagos, and moving the mile 12 market would put so much pressure on the current infrastructure in Ikorodu.
What plans do they have for the roads in Ikorodu?
How will the area and security agencies in Ikorodu deal with the influx of traders and customers?
Moving the market doesn't solve the issue that caused the fighting, we just changed locations.

We (Nigeria as a country) should learn to do things holistically.
Good Point of View. But which location in Ikorodu's that Parafa is sef? If It's along Sagamu or Ijebu road then the location isn't bad as the trucks route will be that side when coming from the North. They've no business along Ikorodu-Lagos Road.

BusinessLagos Assembly Orders Relocation Of Mile 12 And Owode Markets by Rockstar07(op): 10:35am On Mar 08, 2016
Smarting from the last week’s crisis in the Mile 12 market area of Lagos, the State House of Assembly yesterday told the state government to begin arrangements for the relocation of the popular foodstuff market.

The market, which is due to be moved to Parafa, in Ikorodu, according to the House, has overstayed its welcome in the area and should no longer be tolerated in the heart of the city.

Also penciled for relocation is the Owode Market on Ikorodu road and others of such market that have expanded to the highway.
Presenting the issue at Matters of Urgent Public Importance, during Monday’s plenary, member of the House, Jude Idimogu, drew attention of his colleagues to the last week mayhem in which 12 people were killed, scores of persons maimed and raped and over 15 houses razed.

Idimogu noted that such violence and tribal clashes had become one too many in the market with security agencies also fingered for taking sides with one tribe against the other.

While he commended the state government for rising to the occasion to quell the crisis, the lawmaker said that it was high time the government had relocated the market to a better site and away from residential community.

Idimogu’s colleague, representing Epe II Constituency, Abiodun Tobun, recalled that the Mile 12 market dated back several decades, was established when the area was not as developed as it is today.

Tobun said: “Not only has the area developed, the market too has enlarged with many trailers now parked on the road side to enter the market creating traffic on that corridor. Government is doing much to keep street traders off the road, but the market itself deserves to be relocated.”

Lawmaker representing Ikorodu I Constituency, Sanai Agunbiade, observed that the traffic around that corridor was due to the market that has overstayed its welcome.

Agunbiade recalled that the last administration had in fact designed a large expanse of land for regional food market in Parafa, where Mile 12 was proposed to be relocated.

But the lawmaker representing the area (Kosofe II Constituency), Tunde Buraimoh, pleaded with the House to exercise caution on such move, citing that the disagreement between trading Hausas and the Yoruba host community would be resolved and peace would soon returned.

Several of his colleagues, however, disagreed, urging the state government to put sentiments aside and use its political will to relocate “the nuisance of a market”.

Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, in his ruling, said it was high time the government had done the needful on Mile 12 and set all machineries in motion to relocate both Mile 12 and Owode market, assuring that the House would support with the needed budget for such exercise.

I’m currently still in shock of my experience last night at exactly 8:55pm yesterday at Benson Bus Stop, Ikorodu. On alighting from the staff bus and after a few seconds walk, this guy just hit me by my right shoulder and apologized immediately which I responded to him saying no problem. After like 2-3mins walk, I noticed the phone (Sony Xperia Z White) in my pocket’s gone. I called the number immediately with my other smaller phone, it was switched off. I was so pained that night... Chai embarassed cry

On getting to the office this morning, I locked the phone on MacAfee Mobile Security via Cam capture. I just checked my e-mail now, I’ve been sent the pix of the criminal that stole the damn phone while trying to call it up with the security codes. He’s currently at No 4, Smith Street, Lagos Island. I believe he’s trying to sell the phone off.

Lalasticlala: Pls can you put this on FP so that 9ja can see the face of the criminal.
