When will Udom complete Eket Remodelling? Eket is still a big village as far as I'm concerned. Why steal money through the white elephant worship center when such money could have still been stolen through the completion of Eket remodelling?
Why are the fountains in the state not working?
Where is Uyo capital city development authority? Too many make shift structures are beginning to dot major highly and streets
Itam area is becoming too rowdy, people are selling things on the road median!!! Some are even tying their tables to the trees permanently. Is the environment commissioner sleeping? Why are the environmental laws not enforced, oh I remember, millions of Naira are not involved.
Control post to four points by shraton in Ikot ekpene has been blocked for four years now killing all business concerns in that axis, same with ekom Iman area. Just complete these projects and open those places up mbok.

I hope the new Ibom air international routes will be: 1. Uyo- Accra or at worst Uyo-Lagos-Accra 2. Uyo-Banjul or at worst Uyo-Lagos-Banjul
Anything else, Ibom air will just be developing the Lagos hub rather than the Uyo hub.
By now we should be having Uyo - Kano, Uyo-Duala, Uyo-Dubai or London, etc |

yaki84: I wouldnt have want to join issues with u, but i think u r akpabio man. Do you know akpabio budgeted monies for this seaport from 2011-2015? Do u know akpabio gave out the design of this project to a woman who is a fashionista, someone that doesnt know jack about port? Do u know also the woman took akwaibom state govt to court when the administration of udom came in and inuagurated a standing committee headed by mfon usoro for the actualisation of the port? Udom's mandate was strictly industralization. Akpabio constructed all the roads in and out of akwaibom, that gave birth to the slogan "akwaibom ado ok". Am not holdng briefs for udom cos he has mess up in youth empowerment. But when it comes to industralization, give it to him. He has tried. Do u think its easy to attract investors to a state that is almost at the end of the map? Akwaibom is almost at the exit point of the country, sharing boundaries with the ocean. Akpabio would have been the one to deliver on this project cos of his closeness to jonathan then. But all he was famzing about was power, control of the country, without thinking of the economy of his state. He saw so much money that he didnt know what to do again. Most of the roads he built where at inflated fees, the stadium i dont want to go there. If udom has the financial war chest akpabio had, akwaibom would have been better than what he left it. Big Error, I don't give a rat's ass about Akpabio the squandermania. He is in the past. Udom is present forced on the state by Akpabio. We hold him accountable. BTW Despite Akpabio's inadequacies, he is still better than Udom, project delivery-wise. Ebonyi state collects far less than Akwa Ibom but its project delivery is better. Industrialization, Industrialisation, is it 100% govt money, is it not PPP with govt share kept a secret? What is aks money used for? Udom is a failure abeg. Ilaumoh: Breaking news:
Ibom Deep Seaport to be built in phases, says commissioner By Inemesit Akpan-Nsoh, Uyo 21 December 2020 | 4:28 am
Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Akan Okon, has explained that the project would be developed in phases.
He told The Guardian that the construction of the first phase would gulp $2.016b, adding that the phase would generate about 300,000 jobs, while 3,500 companies are expected to operate at the seaport by the end of 2023.
He made this known while speaking with newsmen in Uyo yesterday, adding that the state government would provide 40 per cent of the funding, while 60 per cent would come from the preferred bidder.
Okon said: “60 per cent of the funding will come from core investors, Bollore ChinaPower Consortium which is the preferred bidder. They are already managing 23 ports in Africa while we believe that their experience and contacts will attract businesses and more investors to the seaport.”
The seaport, with its ancillary industrial city meant for large industries and covering Mbo and Ibeno local councils of the state, would commence operations before the end of 2023.
According to him, the possibility of an early projected operational date was because the state government and the preferred bidder had already undertaken some technical aspects of the port development before the approval last week.
Okon, who is also a former Commissioner of Finance, stressed that in spite of the existence of other seaports in the Niger Delta region, the natural depth of Ibom Deep Seaport would offer more benefits to businesses, as it would serve as a clearing point for bigger vessels.
“The advantage of the Ibom Deep Seaport is in its natural location. For instance, the Lagos Port in terms of draft after dredging is just about 12m so large vessels can’t berth there. They have to wait in the high sea and need smaller vessels to bring cargo to the ports, but big vessels can come into the Ibom Deep Seaport even without dredging.
“It has a draft of 18m and a turning basin of 600m designed for vessels that can carry 120,000 Dead Weight Tonnage and will have 10 terminals. So it can actually allow for another vessel to come in without waiting for the first vessel to be discharged.
“It is also designed to be a trans shipping port, which means goods meant for neighbouring African countries can be transshipped from here using smaller vessels,” he said.
Okon added that the presence of the industrial city would also boost business and attract more cargoes to the seaport and would add to its capacity and reduce the number of clearing days.
“It will also be an additional source of revenue to the Federal Government and the Akwa Ibom State government because its impact will not only be felt in the host communities, but also in nearby communities, he added.
He allayed fears over the possibility of abandoning the project, noting that, due diligence was done before the approval of the project to ensure its success, while the state government undertook several engagements with the host communities We've heard all these sweet talk before only for them to come up with excuses later. As I said seeing is believing. I repeat I'm not impressed with Udom's administration. I'm not!!!! |

Blue3k: Yeah I agree the state moves like a tortoise. The super highway could have been completed but they intentionally decided to delay it because they didnt get approval sooner. The delay in construction for the seaport was the FG not approving the work until now. That's an excuse I can charitably give them. If the cash is available why would the goverments involved delay construction until 2023. We all knew that the approval was coming, federal minister of transport was always saying it. Without that super highway, no construction at the seaport can happen, all the building materials will go through there. Don't give excuses for them. If the money available is not enough for 12 lanes, they can start with four lanes and expand later. These guys don't think things through. Eg. Udom is doing third ring road, no section has been completed, the question I ask is is why didn't they do it in sections, akar oad- to oron Road first for example, for people to derive some benefits rather than messing the whole stretch up and it will not still be completed in 2023 at the pace they are going. Brother, Thank you for agreeing that things are moving at a snail speed. I don't see Udom demanding accountability from those he put in office. The very very few working eg, Akan Okon, we can see results physically. Do you believe that the chairman of a major city like ikot ekpene does not live in IK rather he lives in Uyo. The very street he lives in ikot ekpene was well tarred by Akpabio but this fellow cannot even empower some women by engaging to sweep his street!! The street has street lights but not one is working. Now that's his home, can you imagine how the rest of the city looks like? The other day I passed through Itam near the market and was shocked that traders have started displaying wares under the flyover to sell. The fountains are not working, the decorations all gone. The traders are selling right on the road causing unnecessary traffic. Where is UCCDA, ministry of environment, Itu LGA, where is governance?? The same thing is happening all over Akwa Ibom. Okada have taken over half a lane opposite the Specialist hospital right after the traffic light. To maintain law and order doest demand for billions of Naira. I don't even want to talk about timely road project design and execution - that's a total disaster. The Akwa Ibom dream is bigger than him dualizing the road in front of this house. This is why I am not particularly excited about this Ibom deep seaport especially when expecting money from FG. Yes we have gotten approval, it's good, but the real hard work and dedication is what is demanding. I have assessed Udom dispassionately and concluded he is not the one to bell the cat. We have to choose a truly homeward and visionary governor. Udom will zap back to Lagos immediately after his tenure in 2023. His mind and soul is not here, that's the very brutal TRUTH. God bless Akwa Ibom State |

Politics › Re: Udom Emmanuel Is Boosting Akwa Ibom Economy With Roads Construction by rollingrocks: 2:39pm On Jul 23, 2020 |
I might not like the way Udom is performing in the state in some aspects especially in terms of project delivery especially with regards road constructions, the delivery time is quite long and in some cases the quality of the job is quite low. i give an example, Ring road 2 (between Abak road and Aka road, Eket Re-modelling Project), this is one area the former governor performed very well, most projects that were started were most likely to be completed, there were some he didn't do well too, eg. Tropicana, etc. but are some other aspects Udom is getting very right, e.g. Industrialization especially in an environment where Power is abysmal - PHED is a total failure in Akwa Ibom, they need to be sent packing, without 24 hr electricity and at lease pipe borne water to every home, we can't achieve much. Ibom air too is a good idea to be a tool to boost tourism, Akwa Ibom is a very very clean state, we can take it a notch higher, lets work on our strengths, even though in my opinion, the ministry of tourism and tourism board are just snoozing while historical sites in the state are being lost forever. e.g Amalgamation house in Ikot Abasi while natural sites are being abandoned, they can setup a PPP arrangement to get those sites back in business - its a gold mine. Ibom deep sea port too is a no brainer too but we have to be ready both in terms of infrastructure (rail on my mind) and human capital development, more scholarships need to be awarded and paid to the brightest brains in the state (they are very many) to go study in the Havard, Yale, Oxford, etc. and let them come back to drive the economy. Udom is also trying in the area of ethical re-orientation of the youths, encouraging everyone to get up and stop looking at government officials for handouts- a very bad legacy of past government. The typical Akwa Ibom indigene right from when I was a child is known to be very brilliant and industrious, politics of stomach infrastructure and corruption (a Nationwide malaise) will not take us far. The youths need to quickly key into the Akwa Ibom dream and turn Akwa Ibom into a Singapore or Dubai.
I have read with amusement some comments from people don't know or even share the Akwa Ibom dream who have displayed nothing but HATE and in most cases ENVY and JEALOUSY about the state. This is actually a past time of most nairalanders from my observation , they hate to see and even hear anything good about any state that is not theirs. They never criticize constructively, its always with hate!!! please focus on your state. Akwa Ibom is not in any competitions with anybody, the truth however is that Akwa Ibom is far better than most states in Nigeria but that is not what is important, the state needs to target more world class standards and not engage in local competitions. To my fellow Akwa Ibomites who are not satisfied with the state of things or see pure falsehood, voice them out, hold the leaders accountable, tackle them too both on social media but more importantly right on the ground here in Akwa Ibom but remember one thing while doing it - " Anie Ufok ama okood ufok amo ataha ke essien, mboho eya esin ikang," |

Politics › Re: Udom Emmanuel: 5 Years Of Touching Lives by rollingrocks: 11:12am On May 29, 2020 |
abelekene: May 29, 2015 marked a watershed in the annals of Akwa Ibom State. On that day, the people of this South-South state, heralded the swearing-into office of their new Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, a thorough bred professional, a doyen of innovative management and a renowned apostle of excellence.
IN THIS SPECIAL REPORT, Charles Udoh, Ekerete Udoh, James Edet, Michael Bush, Aniefiok Macauley, Grace Akpan , Essien Ndueso, Aniekeme Finbarr, Uko Umoh, Sampson Akpan , Emmanuel Nicholas Okokon, Emmanuel Sam, Solomon Eyo, Rev'd Richard Peters, Idris Mabadeje, Aniekan Ukpong and Godwin Ibok, all seasoned media professionals who have keenly followed developments in the state, traced the journey so far, and the impact of the five years of governance of Akwa Ibom State, under the leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
LEADERSHIP STYLE AND GOVERNANCE
The true mark of leadership is the inclination to stick to innovative and audacious course of actions.
Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs puts it more succinctly, “innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower”. One of the outstanding features of a good leader therefore, is the capacity to reason freestanding of conventional wisdom.
Often, a good leader may not follow the known rules of doing things, particularly in a political clime like ours. Initially, his drive may seem unpopular, but with time, his vision becomes clearer for pundits to decipher, thus setting such a leader apart as a critical thinker, a revolutionary and hero who bolsters his people too. In the words of the sixth President of the United States of America, John Quincy Adams, a good leader inspires his people to “dream more, learn more, do more and become more”.
The above analysis of know-how in leadership best defines the governance style of Mr. Udom Emmanuel, who in the past fast five years as Governor of Akwa Ibom State has demonstrated a leadership style that has attracted enthusiastic connectivity and economic simulation among his people.
Since his ascendancy to the seat of governance of Akwa Ibom State on May 29, 2015, Governor Udom Emmanuel has manifested a clear insight and understanding of the kernel of leadership through policies and programmes that have positively impacted on every section and sector of the state.
A lot has been said and written about the imprints of Governor Udom Emmanuel in the economic sector as well as the great strides of his administration in infrastructural revitalization and its industrial agenda for fast growing state. Nonetheless, one area that social commentators and political analysts seem too often to overlook is the humongous achievements of Governor Udom Emmanuel in the unity project of the state and the other intangible attainments of the administration.
The proclivity of Governor Emmanuel as a peace ambassador, bridge builder, champion and front liner for the unity and greatness of the state is enshrined as word on marble in his political and economic inclusion pillar and his well thought out DAKADDA philosophy for the state.
In words and actions, and in every occasion and situation, the governor has emphasized the cords that bind the state together, distancing himself and his administration from the agents of destabilization, discordance and acrimony, who rather seek to exaggerate the negligible diversities to undermine homogeneousness of the state.
This underlying philosophy of the governor in running the affairs of the state is exemplified in the equitable distribution of human capital development and his infrastructural expansion drive to every segment of the state without biases and bigotries. This explains the huge support base of the governor across the 31 Local Government Areas of the State, devoid of ethnic sentiments. The strength and reach of his support came to fore convincingly during the 2019 gubernatorial election in the state, in which Governor Emmanuel easily won landslide votes in all the 2,980 units of the 329 wards of the state.
For Governor Udom Emmanuel, the unity, harmonious coexistence and the holistic development of the state are topmost agenda that must not be sacrificed on the altar of personal ego and self-aggrandizement.
THE BIRTH OF INDUSTRIES
Industrialization has copiously manifested as a priority sector in the development matrix of Governor Udom Emmanuel, not only due to the fact that, it is one of the major planks of the Eight Point Completion Agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel but because it has become a recurring decimal in the christening of the State budget, since the Governor came on board his second term administration.
The 1999 budget of Akwa Ibom State was christened, "Budget of Industrialization for Poverty Alleviation" while that of the current fiscal year 2020, is christened, "Budget of Industrialization for Poverty Alleviation" phase 11, continuing the mapping from that of the previous year. While presenting the 2020 budget in the floor of the House on October 8, 2019, Governor Emmanuel had said unequivocally that, his vision was to build an industrialized state away from the Civil Service mono-economy, targeting job creation, wealth creation and poverty alleviation.
"The 2020 budget is christened, Budget of Industrialization For Poverty Alleviation, phase 2, because my completion agenda is predicated primarily on the rapid industrialization of the state", Governor Udom Emmanuel had emphasized.
With the resolve therefore to build more industries and attract huge volumes of Foreign Direct Investments, FDI, to Akwa Ibom State, Governor Udom Emmanuel has at the last count, bring on stream, 18 industries which are producing consumables for the people of the state, in keeping with the Governor's commitment to ensuring that 80 percent of consumable items will be produced in the state by the end of his administration in 2023.
To this end, Akwa Ibom State prides itself as home to the largest Syringe manufacturing factory in Africa with a production capacity of 400 million syringes per annum, the Jubilee Syringe, the best and first ever digital Electric Metering Solutions manufacturing company, with a production capacity of 3 million prepaid meters annually, the Lions Plywood and Timber factory which at the moment is providing jobs to over 150 young people in the state and two Rice mills, the Ibom Agricon Rice mill, producing the Family Rice and the SACAM Afro Processing Rice Mill, producing the Three Rose Rice.
The State also boasts of the Greenwell Fertilizer blending company with a production capacity of 400,000 metric tons per annum, producing assorted kinds of fertilizers for different soil types, the Virgin Coconut oil Refinery, the Kings Flour mill and the Ufani Palm Kernel Crushing Plant in Ukanafun. Others include: the Plastic, Toothpick, Pencils and ongoing Quality Ceramics and Tissue production factories in Itu. There is also the Ibom Industrial Park/Jetty ongoing at the Ikot Abasi coastal area of the state, Cassava processing mills in Abak and Ibesikpo-Asutan, Oil palm processing depots, power and gas processing plant which is ongoing in Ibeno and the mega ongoing Ibom Deep Seaport, making Akwa Ibom stand tall as the emerging industrial hub of Nigeria.
THE RE-BIRTH OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP
In pursuit of a vibrant economic and entrepreneurial development, Governor Udom Emmanuel's administration has turned attention to what could be termed "the low hanging fruits".
This low hanging fruits of the economy spans through the agricultural sector, small and medium scale enterprises, skill acquisition and empowerment.
To give a legal backing to entrepreneurship development, the government had not only set up Akwa Ibom Micro Enterprises and Developments Agency but signed the Akwa Ibom Micro Enterprises Agency bill into law.
The My Entrepreneurship Goals Programme of the Marketing and Brand Management unit of the Governor's office has also trained for certification more than 130 youths on the management of various enterprises .
Within the last few years, government in a bit to recapitalise the economy, injected over 2billion naira interest free loan to traders and small scale businesses.
Besides, to ensure that the prices of stable foods are within the capacity of the poor, the government further provided food processing equipment and agricultural inputs to cooperative societies across the state.
SUPERLATIVE STRIDES IN HEALTHCARE DELIVERY
There are reasons for the people of Akwa Ibom state to celebrate the emergence of Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, five years ago, with regards to the total revamping of the health sector.
Unarguably, Governor Emmanuel's intervention in the State's health sector right from his first term in office saved Akwa Ibom from being badly hit by the outbreak of the novel coronavirus ravaging the world. He proactively prepared the State to meet any health emergency.
The governor embarked on rehabilitation of secondary health facilities across the state with such energy and consistency that baffled even his critics. With a simple message: Health is Wealth, he set about transforming long abandoned and dilapidated hospitals into functional health care center equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment, manned by motivated personnel.
Some of the medical equipment imported by the administration, which arrived the state in 50 containers include, electrocardiograph 3 Channels, colonoscopy (with halogen light), x-ray film processor, x-ray film viewer, gastroscope, operating theatre light (5-Spot light), operating table, anastasia trolley with ventilator and monitor, syringe pump, electro surgical units, monopolar-bipolar operating instruments, suction pump and host of other state-of-the art equipment including CT Scanners, Surgical microscope for eyes.
The governor began his transformation of the state's health sector with the iconic missionary hospital - St. Luke's Hospital, Anua - Uyo, where he constructed and equipped a 300-bed gynecology ward in honour of the reputable Irish Missionary, Dr. Ann Ward. From there, he undertook the rehabilitation and upgrading of several hospitals namely: Etinan General Hospital, Ikot Okoro General Hospital, General Hospital, Ituk Mbang, General Hospital, Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, Emmanuel General Hospital, Eket and General Hospital, Iquita Oron.

SIONKPO1: one man food is another man's poison you praise ibom air but me I give it a knock You don't expect any government to do things as you wishes it should be done But there is a sum total point which in my assessment is poor. I praised ibom Air because i felt it was the only way that Uyo air route can be developed, a step to putting to use that wasting MRO. Secondly I know how many times one has been at the mercy of private airlines who just decide not to fly, not because there no passengers but because they are business people and they don't just share the visionby making sacrifices. Before the Uyo Airport, the Calabar airport was mostly patronized by akwa ibomites, not even cross riverians. The Uyo airport was a no brainer, but some people kicked against it but history is the judge (thank God it wasn't abandoned). Today you cant compare the passenger traffic at Uyo to calabar airport. We have to continue to hold government accountable at all times, its public money and not their personal money. |
