Islam for Muslims / Re: Nairaland Islam Section Debate (NISD) by roshmedia(m): 4:36pm On Dec 26, 2014
Whao, what a discussion!

1. I think the debate shoudn't focus on who is or who is not to blame - that is not bringing out the need to identify a solution or a way forward. It seems to only accentuate the dividing line. However, kudos to the whole idea.

2. Congratulations to the sisters. I am impressed by majority of what I read. Seem you 'guys' were all about having a sit down between intending couples, ironing out misunderstanding/misconceptions, giving the brother a chance to convince you of your desires he might not be able to meet, confirming the guy is not just loking for a slave but a partner within the set limits. In short, the sisters message comes across as 'bros, lets talk about it with the spirit of give & take'.

3. Yeyenati is great too - but needs to calm down. (hope you don't take this the wrong way). in all, you did great, realy.

4. Weldone brothers for putting up a good fight. You guy didn't nail this in my humble opinion. You were too much about stereotypes: sisters like rich guys, sisters dont want to submit, etc. Hey, everybody is different. You have to treat each scenario on a case by case basis. Even if the stereotypes are true, your duty if interested is to engage before nikah, seek to understand, propose compromise, assure of Allah's support and pray. Otherwise move forward a find another sis.

5. And do let's avoid generalisation, its against our Deen. Treat people on their own merit. You can be sure most sis are right up there in the intelectual dept. as much as the brothers. We bros are just getting use to this idea (you cant blame us on what we learnt from the old generation along with the Deen. However bros, you have to catch up early. Wake up and smell the coffee. And sis have to pipe down on the effect of wetern media (feminism and whats not) - the Deen's got you covered already!

6. Dressing. I used to get accussed of these a lot long time ago. I just didn't have a good fashion sense. However, i grew up to differentiate Zhud from Taqwa.

7. You have to be financially ready before nikkah. And the readiness is about livelihood not riches. Level of wealth required is not bro nor sis opinion - it's a joint agreement of what is enough. Otherwise, if you can't agree, you keep searching for a like mind. Not give up and point fingers.

Nur vs 33 from ibn katheer

Allah's saying:

﴿وَلْيَسْتَعْفِفِ الَّذِينَ لاَ يَجِدُونَ نِكَاحاً حَتَّى يُغْنِيَهُمُ اللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِ﴾

(And let those who find not the financial means for marriage keep themselves chaste, until Allah enriches them of His bounty.) This is a command from Allah to those who do not have the means to get married: they are to keep themselves chaste and avoid unlawful things, as the Prophet said:

«يَا مَعْشَرَ الشَّبَابِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمُ الْبَاءَةَ فَلْيَتَزَوَّجْ فَإِنَّهُ أَغَضُّ لِلْبَصَرِ وَأَحْصَنُ لِلْفَرْجِ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالصَّوْمِ فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ»

(O young men, whoever among you can afford to get married, let him marry, for it is more effective in lowering the gaze and protecting the private parts. Whoever cannot do that, then let him fast, for it is a protection for him.)

(and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful) ﴿4:25﴾.

﴿وَلْيَسْتَعْفِفِ الَّذِينَ لاَ يَجِدُونَ نِكَاحاً﴾

(And let those who find not the financial means for marriage keep themselves chaste,) `Ikrimah said, "This refers to a man who sees a woman and it is as if he feels desire; if he has a wife then let him go to her and fulfill his desire with her, and if he does not have a wife, then let him ponder the kingdom of heaven and earth until Allah grants him means of livelihood.''

8. I broke my oath of silence.

Travel / Re: Planning Of Trekking From Lagos To Maiduguri. Pls Advice Me by roshmedia(m): 1:14pm On Sep 28, 2012
view ur journey here by foot on google maps. I started you from Lagos state government House in Ikeja to Bornu state Government house in Maiduguri (was tempted to end ur journey in a cemetry or psychiatric hospital smiley don mind just kidding). i can see myself doing this if not engagements: yep you said u were bored.

Google says its 1449 km, equivalent to 12 days 6 hours walking. i guess you cant walk whole day, so.. do your maths.

https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=212563458902133398279.0004cac1a97cf81bae178&msa=0

and google probably assumes you take 15 - 30 minutes to walk a mile so.. do your maths

http://www.quora.com/Google-Maps/What-is-the-assumed-walking-speed-in-Google-Mapss-time-estimates

Great mind you got there pal, some get bored and become destructive.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Which Way Nlng? by roshmedia(m): 3:00pm On Jul 21, 2007

i saw this in my box and i think you should read while we wait

The lord is my strength
Janet had done well during the test and I was set to conduct the interview. I asked ‘please tell us what your strengths are? She smiled as if that was the easiest question she had ever been asked and she answered’ the lord is my strength! I couldn’t help laughing. I did not believe she said that. This is simple common sense. How can you say the lord is your strength during an interview? Does this place look like your church? And you guessed right, she was not employed. How would she? I am sure she is one of those who complain about scarcity of employment when truly what is very scarce is common sense.

After going through this, did you support the conclusion?
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Which Way Nlng? by roshmedia(m): 2:54pm On Jul 21, 2007

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Which Way Nlng? by roshmedia(m): 8:25pm On Jul 14, 2007
Hello guys

i am in and feeling all you guys doing all this good things for others. well i just want to say thanks anyway. best of luck to you guys. i am yet to take my assessment: my date is 16th, anyone else for then?

And b4 i confirm my ticket [ i had it since the first day i wrote the first test at Unilag], a guy here beside me is saying that this point is when the nepotism monster puts in its head and tries to rob us of our hard and long struggle to be a staff of nlng, i just told him to remember that life in Nigeria is usually like that, just assume that the nepotism issue is just like when you tried to get into a university, after they picked the big guy people, they still needed to put guys with brains on the team so the system wont crash. so i am just goner be one of those brains coming in.

i would have liked to sit beside the driver in front, but the 1st sit seems to be taken. i am just goner pick the sit behind adrianic, so that makes me no 8th. who goner pick the no 0 sit so we can make 80 straight off? cheesy

and i been thinking about coming together later in nlng and making a book from this pages for everyone to keep as a memorabilia.

a message to nlng: its been nice facing the challenges you have been throwing at us all this while, and your staff has been wonderful and accommodating. i just hope and pray you give us a nice working environment when we come in later on so we can serve Nigeria with our intelligence and dedication. i tell you this guys here in nairaland are as good as any expatriate you can get. just wait!

@ kuwena, you said you took a taxi from festac, were you refunded? cos that will be best for me considering that i have to fight the traffic from my place, and where you given transport back home [you know, ABC and the wagon you took to kano]?

@house, just now i said a prayer that each of us will be rewarded with a place in nlng as much as we have faith in the certainty of it and to the level of our ability to contribute to its growth. [successful indeed are the believers Q23v1] amen.

i need to start jacking some interview prep. stuff i found on the net, see u later.

good luck to all in the house. smiley

hello guys

thanks kizoic. keep up the info.
was there anything about pay? how much should we ask for? i think we should all fix up a figure so as get a uniform house and give ourselves some leverage. what doyou guys think?

i am thinking of say: :o180K t0 250K grin

and please was there anything like the normal interview? i mean all these can we meet you & whats your greatest achievement in life stuff. or is everything just some form of tests or the other?

thanks for making the prospects of a brother beta. one for all and all for one wink

As she picked the phone her heart was pounding and her stomach fluttering like butterfly. hello dele, she said. hello?, hello?,  hello? she shouted when there was no reply. as she looked at her phone, she saw that it was dead because of low battery. she reached for her her nokia charger and PHCN [please hold candle at night] struck. oh my God! there is no fuel in the generator!
Forum Games / Re: The Unending Story by roshmedia(m): 1:47am On Jun 04, 2007
as dele sped of, simbi started ruminating about the entire episode. "i shouldn't have lied to dele, she thought. He's been the only guy who has been caring enough to listen to me. i should have told him the truth about the pregnancy". 'but Peter is his friend and he might think you are trying to break their friendship', a voice whispered in her heart.

i am so confused, i don't know what to do, she laments and burst into tears as memories flood her mind of that black Thursday night on a trailer at ilasamaja park with peter! what a shame, i should have resisted him more than i did, or even shouted maybe the the agberos would have prevented this nightmare.

Has she dried her tears, a plan began to form in her mind on how she will get her revenge on peter and at the same time, win the heart of Dele. first she must call Dele and tell him the type of guy peter is. 'yes, i will call Dele right now' she said has she dial his number on her nokia 3310.
