PoliticsNigerians Will Never Forgive Tinubu If He Fails To Probe The Buhari Administrati by Roving1(op): 12:15pm On Dec 24, 2023
Nigerians Will Never Forgive Tinubu If He Fails To Probe The Buhari Administration - Attahiru Bafarawa

“The most important thing Mr President should know is that he inherited a problem, and he should not ignore it. President Bola Tinubu is not the cause of what Nigerians are currently facing now. Former President (Muhammadu) Buhari should be blamed.

“I think the government is continuous. If President Tinubu is going to continue with the good work that he is doing, especially the reviving of some of the projects that have been abandoned in Abuja and other areas, I don’t see any reason why the Tinubu administration should not probe Buhari.

“In fact, Buhari is the first person to be probed because when Nigerians voted for him (Buhari), they voted for integrity. Buhari told Nigerians that he was the most sincere and honest person. When he (Buhari) was campaigning, he said he was the sincerest, the cleanest among others. Now, he has spent eight years, and he is out.

So, it will be a disaster and it will not help the nation if Tinubu fails to probe Buhari’s administration. If he wants to get off the blame, he should probe the past administration. If Buhari is found clean, then people will be happy with him. But if he is found wanting, he should answer for his wrongdoing.

“But it will not augur well for Nigerians to allow Buhari to go just like that. If President Tinubu allows Buhari to go scot-free, he (Tinubu) should know that all that Buhari did while he was in government, Tinubu would be seen as the person who did it.

“If Buhari investigated some persons in (Goodluck) Jonathan’s administration, what stops Tinubu from investigating Buhari’s government? I say this because Buhari investigated Jonathan’s administration and a lot of money was recovered.

“What some of the officials in Jonathan’s administration stole is meagre compared to what Buhari’s government has done. The Buhari administration borrowed money and then they embezzled the money they borrowed. After they borrowed money, we couldn’t see what they spent the money on.

“So, what is President Tinubu going to tell us? Is it because they (Tinubu and Buhari) belong to the same political party? So, President Tinubu should try not to take the blame that doesn’t belong to him. Take a look at the fuel subsidy; it was not Tinubu that removed fuel subsidy, it was Buhari that did so. President Tinubu only read it out.

“Former President Buhari removed fuel subsidy six months before he left office. What happened was that he didn’t add fuel subsidy to the budget. But Tinubu only came and announced the removal, even when it had been removed by the immediate past administration.

CrimeCardoso Reveals: CBN Ban On 43 Items Cost Nigeria $1.4 Billion Over Eight Years by Roving1(op): 2:14pm On Nov 25, 2023
Cardoso Reveals: CBN Ban on 43 Items Cost Nigeria $1.4 Billion Over Eight Years

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, has clarified that the 43 items were never explicitly prohibited from importation or sale in Nigeria.

Cardoso gave this clarification at the 58th Annual Bankers’ Dinner organised by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) on Friday in Lagos.

He, however, explained that the apex bank had implemented restrictions on accessing foreign exchange for the importation of these items.

Cardoso emphasised that the issue of trade policy, specifically the importation and sale of the 43 items, was primarily within the domain of the fiscal authorities, not the CBN.

This distinction, he said, was important because it clarifies that the CBN’s decision to lift the foreign exchange restrictions on these items was not intended to encroach upon the responsibilities of other government agencies.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the CBN had in a circular in June 2015, published a list of imported goods and services that will not be eligible for foreign exchange in the Nigerian foreign currency market.

The list which was originally 41 was updated to include two more items.

But the CBN precisely on October 12 2023, announced that it had lifted the ban on the issuance of foreign exchange for the importation of rice, vegetable oil, and poultry products among other 43 items.

Cardoso said, “Allow me to provide further clarification on the issue of the 43 items.

“Firstly, it is important to note that these items were never outrightly banned by the government.

“The CBN had imposed restrictions on their access to foreign exchange in the official market.

“However, these restrictions resulted in increased demand for foreign exchange in the parallel market, leading to the depreciation of the exchange rate in that segment of the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market and widening the premium between the parallel and official market.’’

Cardoso said studies had shown that during the period when the 43 items were restricted, there was a 51.0 per cent increase in trade evasion by importers accessing the foreign exchange market.

According to him, this resulted in a revenue drop of approximately $1.4 billion, or $275 million annually, between 2015 and 2019.

Cardoso added that revenue from tariffs on goods decreased from a high of approximately $920 million in 2011 to about $250 million in 2017.

“In 2019, the actual tariff on goods stood at $320 million, but counterfactual evidence suggests that as much as $680 million could have been earned in the same year,” he said.

He added that evidence had shown that foreign exchange restrictions had an adverse impact on Nigerian households and contributed to inflationary pressures.

Cardoso said the reduction in trade restrictions and levies on rice, sugar, and wheat by 50.0 per cent had only a minimal impact on welfare, with a 0.8 per cent improvement, and a mere 0.4 per cent reduction in extreme poverty.

Cardoso explained that the benefits of trade gains for the general population were negligible, as the average industry in Nigeria pays 13.7 per cent more for its inputs.

According to the CBN, this action will boost liquidity in the Nigerian foreign exchange market and intervene from time to time, adding that interventions will decrease as liquidity improves.

Meanwhile, a former CBN Director, Prof. Akpan Ekpo, told NAN that the apex bank made a big error by opening up the foreign exchange market.

He said, “It is an error because the dollar, pound and euro are not our money, we only get dollars when we sell oil mainly.

ONDO: APC Chieftains Advocate for Aiyedatiwa to Serve as Acting Governor

Some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have asked the State House of Assembly to empower the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as the acting Governor.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu declared that Rotimi Akeredolu will remain the Governor of Ondo State, while Aiyedatiwa remains his deputy.

The decision was made after a meeting between Tinubu and Ondo State stakeholders at the Presidential Villa on Friday.

In a statement on Saturday, the party chieftains under the aegis of the Ondo APC Progressives Stakeholders said Aiyedatiwa should be given the powers to act as the state governor in line with constitutional provisions.

In the statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Afe Olowookere, and Secretary, Hon. Raman Rotimi, the group said the prolonged absence of Akeredolu has crippled the economy of the State.

The APC chieftains resolved that party supremacy must be entrenched to facilitate inclusion and mutual respect.

It said: “All inclusive developmental agenda for socio-economic, industrial and cultural rebirth that will put the State in its rightful place should be designed by all parties and stakeholders to provide quality, sustainable economic and industrial development for the people.

“That APC party members should be allowed to participate and determine those to be appointed or elected into political and party offices.

Gov. Yahaya Bello Addresses Discussions Regarding Influence over Kogi Governor-Elect, Ododo.

The incumbent Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has distanced himself from the speculations that he would control the Governor-elect, Usman Ododo.

Governor Bello said on Friday that Ododo would carry his cross while ruling over the state.

Bello stated this while addressing the state House correspondents after the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, led the re-elected Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Ododo for the presentation of their certificates of return to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Kogi State Governor vowed that he would not interfere in the administration of Ododo as the Governor of Kogi State.

Bello said, “In this administration, I have nobody dictating for me rather we follow the law, and the rules, and the people are satisfied with me. This is going to be Usman Ododo administration, good or bad which I pray is going to be good. He will carry his cross and I know he will do well.”

Governor Bello charged the people of Kogi State to join hands with the incoming government to ensure that they benefit from the Renewed Hope Agenda of the federal government.

Speaking on APC’s victory in Kogi State, the governor-elect, said his mandate was for the people of the state, and he is ready to serve the people.

He said, “Through the campaign processes, we have met our stakeholders, the mandate is for the people, and as such, we are coming to serve the people, we must consult with them. We thank PBAT for the good he has done for the people.

“Our administration is coming to solve problems. We thank the people of Kogi for voting for APC.

“The election in the two states shows that our party has moved from the old dark days to the new world order. Kogi State and Imo people know what is right for them and they have done what is right.”

Also speaking, the Governor of Imo State, Uzodinma, said his victory further validated the victory of President Tinubu at the presidential election and the growing popularity of the APC among Nigerians.

He said, “You recall that in the election of November 11, our great party, APC, that is growing in popularity came out successfully in Kogi and Imo states and you know that the leader of the party is the President and it is our tradition that after we have received our certificates of return in an off-cycle election like that of Imo and Kogi states, we should come to honour him by presenting the certificate to him in recognition of not only his leadership but also the guidance he has demonstrated since he emerged as the President of the country.

JUST IN: Nigerian Student Rusticated, Deported After Making A Threats Against A University In The U.k. Says He Is Capable Of Bombs And Unleashing A Deadly Virus On The City

A 26-year-old Nigerian masters student, Somtochukwu Okwuoha faces jail and deportation after a jury found him guilty of making terrorist threats against Dundee University.

According to the BBC, the International Energy Student claimed he had enlisted a terrorist group - Isis- to help bomb the university and told staff he planned to target the city in a chemical attack.

Okwuoha was found guilty of seven charges and was remanded in custody. He is due to be sentenced next month. Sheriff William Wood will also consider the Crown's motion for an order to deport Okwuoha to Nigeria.

A trial heard that Okwuoha told university staff he planned to carry out mass murder on the Dundee University campus. Eyewitnesses told the court how Okwuoha claimed he had a military background and was capable of making bombs and unleashing a deadly virus on the city.

One of the witnesses, Keith Mackle, 58, now retired director of student services, told Perth Sheriff Court he became aware of "serious concerns" in the autumn of 2021. He said staff members received emails making terrorist threats.

One said: "Expect a massive b%mb explosion at the University of Dundee. I have contacted Isis terrorists to plant bombs on campus. I can assure you staff and students will d#e in great numbers. 9/11 will be a joke compared to what will happen. Blod will spill and flesh will be scattered."

Also, accommodation officer Shane Taylor told the court Okwuoha accused him of being racist and said he planned to wipe out Scottish people as revenge.

Okwuoha, a prisoner at Perth, was found guilty of threatening to murder staff at the university and commit terrorist crime between December 2021 and June 2022.

APGA Optimistic Of Gov.Soludo's Re-election Notwithstanding The Threat Of The Obidient Movement

The Anambra State Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, has said the chances of any opposition defeating the Governor of the state, Charles Soludo, in 2025 is slim.

Obi-Okoye stated that the party is not afraid of the Obidient movement, adding that it would fizzle out with time.

The chairman said this while speaking with journalists in his office in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

He argued that APGA has succeeded in beating the candidates sponsored by Obi and would most likely beat anyone he sponsors in 2025.

He said, “By Labour candidate you mean Valentine Ozigbo, is it not? Unfortunately, that name has become synonymous with losing elections. If he contests, he will be contesting against his homeboy from Aguata (Soludo).

“So, I can say the ObIdient man (Obi), APGA has beaten him twice. We beat him when he brought a man from Ogbaru, Oseloka Obaze, and we beat him again when he brought Val Ozigbo.

APC Elder State Man, Ganduje Reveal How We Nailed Kwankwaso, And Yusuf At The Court

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Gnaduje, has opened up on what his party used to nail Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the governor, who ran under the platform of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), winner of the March 18 election, but the APC rejected the result and headed for the tribunal.

The lower court had voided 165,663 votes of Yusuf on the grounds that they were not signed or stamped by INEC.

The governor’s votes were then reduced to 853,939 while those of Nasir Ganuwa, his APC rival, remained at 890,705.

NNPP and Governor Yusuf had challenged the ruling at the Appeal Court, but still lost. The court held that Yusuf was not a member of the party under which he contested.

Reacting to the Appeal Court judgement, Ganduje said Kwankwaso was so desperate to become president that he did not notice INEC had closed accepting nomination forms, when he joined the NNPP.

The APC national chairman said they were aware of the development that was why they waited for the right time to strike.

Ganduje said, “They were in PDP and when the crisis heated up and they were punched repeatedly they left the party and started groping for a platform. Unfortunately, they ran into a political party symbolizing fruits. They were given tickets because their leader was daydreaming; their leader was ambitious to be the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but he was frightened.

'No Community Was Under Boko Haram Control'- Borno State Governor, Zulum Praise Security Men

Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum, on Friday, said his state’s security situation had improved by 85 per cent, claiming that no community was under Boko Haram control.

“Honestly speaking, none of the 27 local government areas of Borno State are under the control of insurgents,” Zulum told State House correspondents after he emerged from closed-door talks with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Zulum said, “To be sincere and candid, the security situation in Borno State has improved by more than 85 percent. Economic activities are ongoing perfectly in Borno State.

“I just read some script a few days ago saying that insurgency is increasing in Borno State; the story is not right. The Nigerian army is giving us the desired cooperation, the police, the paramilitary as well as air force and all other components of the Nigerian military are supporting us.

“But most importantly, I want to assure you that as the chief security officer of Borno State, the state is doing well in terms of security. There’s a serious improvement in our security situation. And I commend the service chiefs for their efforts and I commend the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

However, the Governor said a few local government areas still reeling from years of conflict as settlers are yet to fully return.

“Now, people are partially resettled there, especially Abadam local government and then Guzamala local government.

“But by and large, in terms of the security situation in Borno state, I think the government is doing very well, the Nigerian military is also doing very well. And then nothing has happened; we keep on improving,” he said.
