UST IN; 19-Year-Old Student Commits Suicide In Osun


The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force said it is investigating the events that birthed the suicide of a 19-year-old student in the state over the weekend.

The security agency revealed in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday that the teenager who was identified as a student of Ipetu-Ijesa College of Technology was found dead in Ilesa.

Confirming the identity of the deceased, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Yemisi Opalola, told reporters in Osogbo, the state capital that the victim, Olonade Tomiwa, was found hanging lifelessly in the compound with a telephone cable.

The PPRO said the tragic event was reported at Ilesa ‘A’ Division by a youth leader in the town who identified himself as Agboola Olusola.

Upon visiting the scene of the incident, the police in its preliminary finding into the incident revealed that there was no mark of violence on the body of the deceased.

Opalola said the police took photographs of the scene and the corpse was deposited at Wesley Guild Hospital mortuary in Ilesa.

She said the command has continued to dig deep into the genesis of the event.

There was confusion at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, in Anambra State on Saturday after three undergraduate students were found dead in their hostel.

The institution, ROVINGUPDATES learnt, had closed its last session on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, after the completion of its second-semester examination.

The school management, however, said it was shocking to learn about the untimely death of the undergraduate students.

Reports said the female students, all in their 200-level, were found dead inside their hostel rooms at the Igbariam campus of the varsity.

A source at the institution confirmed the identity of the students as Obidiaso Chidera (200-level Political Science student), Mercy (200-level Pharmacy student), and Emmanuella (200-level Business Administration).

It is yet unclear what led to their death but security operatives and the school authorities are on their toes to unravel the mystery behind the sad incident.

There are suspicions, however, that the deceased might have mistakenly locked themselves up in their room from outside.

JUST IN: 3 Men Drug, Rape Lady They Met On Facebook

Three suspect have been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday in Lagos for drugging and defiling a lady they met on Facebook.

ROVINGUPDATES understands that the three suspects Jerry Ikechukwu, 28; Bright Umeh, 45, and Patrick Amajuoye, 52 were arraigned on charges of conspiracy, rape, stealing, unlawful possession of stolen items, causing the breach of peace and receiving stolen items.

The prosecution Counsel, Inspector Olusegun Oke, told the court that the accused carried out the crime on July 12 at 35, Fadunsi St., Oke-Ira, Ogba, Lagos.

The prosecutor said the victim met on of the suspect Ikechukwu on Facebook and on getting to his place he offered her orange juice which he had earlier spiked with Super Apeti drug (a sleeping tablet) into the victim’s juice.

After taking the drink she later slept off.

Speaking further, Oke said that the victim was raped and her Canon 18i Tecno, valued N150,000, was stolen.

“Some wraps of cannabis and different sim cards were found in their possession,” he said.

The prosecutor said that 52 different brands of android phones were also recovered from them.

The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of sections 133, 166, 239, 265, 287, 328, 329 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate M. C. Ayinde, who refused to take the plea of the defendants ordered that they should be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre until Sept. 26, for legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.

JUST IN: 'I Felt Mocked' - Dino Melaye Narrates Ordeal With Waiter In Hotel

Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has narrated how he felt mocked over a treatment melted at him at a hotel, in an undisclosed location.

ROVINGUPDATES reports that Melaye shared the incident on his Facebook page as a means of encouraging his followers never to give up amidst being mocked or humiliated.

According to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, he walked into a hotel and ordered some food but felt awkward when the waiters served a group of guys and ladies who got there later than him.

Melaye said he felt mocked and decided to leave because he could not take it anymore, especially when he still had to wait and listen to the ladies talking about how connected they were to everyone in the hotel.

He added that he confronted the waiter who clarified that his meal was being prepared by the chief chef before he calmed down and waited patiently.

He wrote: “I walked into a hotel and after going through the menu, I ordered some food. After about 20 mins a group of guys and ladies walked in & ordered theirs. To my dismay, these folks got served first. I watched as they began to eat& laugh heartily. I even overheard one of them bragging about how connected he is to everyone in the hotel and I felt mocked. I decided to leave. Unable to take it anymore, I called the waiter.

He calmly told me: “yours is a special order, being prepared by the chief chef himself. Their orders were prepared hurriedly by students on attachment because the top chefs are busy with yours Sir. That’s why they were served first. Please have some juice as you wait”. I calmed down & waited patiently.

“Shortly after, my meal was served by 6 waiters. Unknown to me, the owner of the hotel (who happened to be an old long lost friend of mine) saw me when I entered and decided to surprise me. She changed my simple meal to a five-star meal. The party at the other table was shocked. They couldn’t stop staring. Suddenly they were the ones murmuring, asking why they didn’t get that kind of service and meal.

BREAKING: Lagos Police Command Arrest Fake Army Captain  Over Alleged Theft

A man who was reportedly parading himself as a captain of the Nigerian Army has been arrested in Lagos State by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.

The force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed in a statement on Sunday noon that the suspect, Andy Edwards, was nabbed by detectives of the command after allegedly robbing some ladies of their valuables, including cars.

Hundeyin said the 39-year-old suspect in his last criminal act, paraded himself as a modelling agent, invited the unsuspecting ladies for auditioning and then robbed them of their cars and valuables at gunpoint.

According to the PPRO, Edwards was arrested following a painstaking investigation launched after one of his victims reported the robbery of her Lexus RX330 SUV.

Hundeyin revealed in the statement that further investigation led to the recovery of one Ford Edge SUV with registration number KRD 276 EG, one sewing machine, one POS machine with six SIM cards, two pairs of military camouflage uniforms, one number plate – AFL 469 GD, in the suspect’s house.

ROVINGUPDATES learnt that while an investigation is being rounded off, the owner of the Ford SUV is urged to come forward to claim it. The suspect would be arraigned after the investigation.

It said the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi FDC, assured the residents of the state of the unwavering commitment of officers and men of the command towards annihilation of crime and criminality in the state.

Sad: Trailer Crushes A Taekwondo Medalist To Death In Lafia 

Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has confirmed the sudden death of a Taekwondo athlete in the state, Maria Raphael.


The ministry revealed in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday that the young athlete who had won a silver medal for the state in the just concluded Bayelsa Open Taekwondo, was crushed by a truck in Lafia, the state capital, on Friday.

ROVINGUPDATES  learnt that the deceased was coming out of a grocery store along UAC road in Lafia when she was crushed by the said truck.

Announcing the sad development, the state sports ministry described Raphael’s demise as a huge loss, particularly to the state where she contributed immensely in the area of sports.

Raphael was said to have won a bronze medal in the 46kg women’s category at the 15th edition of the Panamai West African and Cottage Mills Taekwondo Championship, held recently in Lagos State.

Also, she was in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, where she represented Nasarawa in a championship which held between August 21 and 24, 2022.

Sympathizing with her family and lovers, the state sports ministry said: “Maria was crushed to death (sic) by an articulated vehicle (trailer) along UAC Road here in Lafia, while on her way to purchase some items from a grocery store in the evening of Friday, 26th August 2022, few hours after returning home from a championship in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, where she represented Nasarawa State.”

“At the 15th edition of the Panamai West African and Cottage Mills Taekwondo Championship held early this month in Lagos, the late Maria Raphael was one of the athletes who inspired Team Nasarawa to finish 4th position on the medals’ table as she won a bronze medal in the -46kg Women’s Category at the Championship.

“The deceased was a committed, dedicated and focused athlete, winning medals of different categories for Nasarawa State, ranging from cadet, junior and senior category, until her untimely demise.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum Orders Borno NNPP' Agency  To Resume Office

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has ordered the State Urban Development Board to unseal the headquarters of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

ROVINGUPDATES had reported earlier that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday arrested an NNPP leader and sealed the office of the party in Maiduguri.

But in a statement on Friday issued through his spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau, the governor directed that the board should immediately reverse its action, descringing the sealing of the HQ as “wrong timing”.

The statement reads, “The good people of Borno State are well aware that in the last three years, the Borno State Urban Development Board has been carrying out series of reforms which included sealing of some buildings operated by individuals, corporate bodies like Banks and even some government institutions which issues contravened laws relating to non compliance with Maiduguri’s town planning procedures.

“Although the board claimed to have acted in the same regard in acted against other offices, by sealing the NNPP’s headquarters for wrongful conversion of residential area for office purpose, Governor Zulum regards the board’s action as that of wrong timing.

“Zulum believes that no matter the justification, the board’s decision is bound to be given political interpretation and which could heat up the polity and cause needless distractions.

“For that reason, Governor Zulum had already directed that the board should suspend its own rule on this particular instance bordering on the NNPP. The Governor believes that reversing the decision is in the overall public interest for peace.

“Governor Zulum believes that all political parties should be free to lawfully operate and citizens should be free to associate with political parties of their choices without hindrances.

New Fever Cases Were Flu, Not Covid-19 Virus- North Korea Says 

North Korea said Friday that the fever cases it detected earlier this week were found to be influenza and not a Covid-19 resurgence as initially suspected.

ROVINGUPDATES reports that the state media announcement came a day after authorities said they had locked down parts of Ryanggang province — which borders China — after finding four new “fever” cases there.

North Korea refers to “fever patients” rather than “Covid patients” in case reports, apparently due to a lack of testing capacity.

The official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Thursday that the new cases were “suspected of being infected with the malignant epidemic” — just two weeks after the country declared victory over Covid-19.

But on Friday, it said they were actually not Covid infections, and that the lockdown in the area had been lifted.

“All the fever cases… in Ryanggang Province were ones with influenza,” KCNA said, citing data from the state emergency epidemic prevention headquarters.

“The fever cases recovered with normal temperature.”

The isolated nation, which has maintained a rigid blockade since the start of the pandemic, confirmed an Omicron outbreak in the capital Pyongyang in May.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un — who also fell ill during the outbreak — declared victory over the virus earlier this month and ordered the lifting of the country’s “maximum emergency epidemic prevention system” as officially reported cases fell to zero.

North Korea has recorded nearly 4.8 million “fever” cases and just 74 deaths for an official fatality rate of 0.002 percent, according to state media.

Bauchi Police Command Arrests Eight Suspected Criminals, kill two others 

Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and arrested eight others in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, August 26, said the two kidnap victims were rescued during the raid operation.

“On 14th August 2022 at about 2030hrs a joint team of police operatives in conjunction with a local vigilante group led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Maina-Maji Divisional Headquarters swiftly raided a suspected kidnapper’s hideout and neutralized two suspected kidnappers,” the PPRO stated.

He listed the suspects arrested by the operatives as Ali Ibrahim (20), Manu Abdullahi (30), Damina Musa (22), Yusuf Mohammed (32), Buba Abdu (25), Buba Sulaiman (22), Isah Manu (25) and Kabiru Alhaji Sa’adu (26), all of Yelwan Duguri area of Alkaleri LGA.

Two kidnappers Abdusalam and Usman Alhaji Dadi, 28, were certified dead by a medical doctor while one of the arrested suspects, Kabiru Alhaji Sa’adu, is recuperating.

“The operation led to the release of one Alhaji Samaila ‘M’ age 70yr-old of Gayar Mukal village of Alkaleri LGA,”

“Furthermore, four motorcycles were recovered as exhibits from the suspected kidnappers. During the investigation, the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime

“Equally, the Commissioner of Police directed that the case be transferred to SCID for discreet investigation,” he added.

In another development, in line with the community policing and intelligence-led policing, on August 23, at about 0030hrs, operatives of the command acting on credible intelligence in conjunction with a local vigilante group swiftly swung into action and engaged suspected kidnappers at Durr village via Dass LGA Bauchi State.

“Subsequently, the operatives succeeded in rescuing one Hussaina Mustapha Alias “Biyu” ‘f’ aged 45yrs of Durr village unhurt and reunited with her family.

During the encounter, the suspected kidnappers took to their heels into the nearby bush. Meanwhile, the Command is intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” the statement added.

While commending the effort of the police operatives, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Mamman Sanda, equally encouraged members of the public to continue to dedicate themselves to sharing useful information with the Police.

BREAKING: President Buhari disclose His Candidates For 2023

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday declared that only candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will get his support in the 2023 elections.

The President in a statement by his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Garba Shehu stated that those who defected to other parties or instituted court cases against validly elected APC candidates and the party will not get his support.

He also cautioned those who have defected from the APC to stop linking him with their actions as he remains absolutely committed to the party.

According to Buhari, the APC brought him to power and he won’t do anything that will undermine or jeopardize the chances of the party in the forthcoming election.

The statement reads; “The Presidency wishes to put it on record, and at the same time, reassure faithful party members that President Muhammadu Buhari remains a “disciplined soldier” of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and will, in all the coming elections, support only those candidates fielded by the party and no other,” the statement reads.

“This is a warning to decamped party members and some others who are still in court against official candidates of the APC that they are on their own and nobody outside the party tent should link what they are doing to President Buhari.

“The President wishes to be quoted as saying that he is the “occupant of the high office of the President by the Grace of God who used the instrumentality of the APC to bring him to power with a historic verdict in 2015.”

“In 2019, he was returned with a bigger majority. For the first time, a non-PDP government came to power with a huge majority after 16 years of the Fourth Republic. His constant refrain is: “I will not betray or undermine my party by supporting candidates other than those of the APC.”

No Target Person In Mind

The statement however clarified that the President’s statement and position is not against any particular person but other parties and candidates are welcome to support APC candidates.

He said: “This statement is not against any particular candidate. However, our stand is clear that only those candidates fielded by the All Progressives Candidates, APC will enjoy the support of the President and they are the ones he will campaign for. However, we welcome support for our candidates at all levels by other parties.”

Buhari also re-affirmed his commitment “to enforce discipline, synchronization and coordination” at all levels of the APC.
