PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by ROYALD(m): 2:44am On May 20, 2013
percipi1: Regarding your question, why don't you read my previous submissions. Seems you are not reading them before you respond
CHINUA ACHEBE'S THINGS FALL APART. THE NOVEL OWES THIS DISTINCTION TO THE INNOVATIVE SIGNIFICANCE IT ASSUMED AS SOON AS IT WAS PUBLISHED, A SIGNIFICANCE THAT WAS MANIFESTED IN

AT LEAST TWO RESPECTS. IN THE FIRST PLACE, THE NOVEL PROVIDED AN IMAGE OF AN AFRICAN SOCIETY, RECONSTITUTED AS A LIVING ENTITY AND IN ITS HISTORIC CIRCUMSTANCE: AN IMAGE OF A COHERENT SOCIAL STRUCTURE FORMING THE INSTITUTIONAL FABRIC OF A UNIVERSE OF MEANINGS AND VALUES. BECAUSE THIS IMAGE OF AFRICA WAS QUITE UNPRECEDENTED IN LITERATURE, IT ALSO CARRIED CONSIDERABLE IDEOLOGICAL WEIGHT IN THE SPECIFIC CONTEXT OF THE NOVEL'S WRITING AND RECEPTION. FOR IT CANNOT BE DOUBTED THAT THE COMPREHENSIVE SCOPE OF ACHEBE'S DEPICTION OF A PARTICULARIZED AFRICAN COMMUNITY ENGAGED IN ITS OWN SOCIAL PROCESSES, CARRIED OUT ENTIRELY ON ITS OWN TERMS, WITH ALL THE INTERNAL TENSIONS THIS ENTAILED, CHALLENGED THE SIMPLIFIED REPRESENTATION THAT THE WEST OFFERED ITSELF OF AFRICA AS A FORMLESS AREA OF LIFE, AS "AN AREA OF DARKNESS" DEVOID OF HUMAN SIGNIFICANCE. THUS, BEYOND WHAT MIGHT BE CONSIDERED ITS ETHNOGRAPHIC INTEREST, WHICH GAVE THE WORK AN IMMEDIATE AND AMBIGUOUS APPEAL--A POINT TO WHICH WE SHALL RETURN--ACHEBE'S NOVEL ARTICULATED A NEW VISION OF THE AFRICAN WORLD AND GAVE EXPRESSION TO A NEW SENSE OF THE AFRICAN EXPERIENCE THAT WAS MORE PENETRATING THAN WHAT HAD BEEN AVAILABLE BEFORE ITS APPEARANCE.

shymexx: Damn son!!! I had to read the interview again before I hit the sheet!! grin

This man is God's gift to Nigeria!!

Anyone who understands English language should be able to decipher those multi-syllable words in the context in which he used them without the aid of a dictionary. However, the most eye-catching thing about the interview, is the structure of the sentences, and the way he was able to intelligently answer the questions directly and succinctly.

I want to meet this man! grin
WHAT WAS HIS CONTRIBUTION
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by ROYALD(m): 1:57am On May 20, 2013
percipi1: In all honesty, I do not follow you line of reasoning. I have not contested The title . I have only said that it should be construed within the context of Achebe's role as the first advisory editor to Heinemann. Through him, a lot of African writers were discovered and nurtured. Nadine Gordinmer who gave him the title was one of them and she later got a Nobel. Achebe did not nurture any Igbo, Ashanti, french , Swahili or Yoruba writer so he cannot not be accepted as influencing literatures in those languages.

Regarding Michael and James brown, they are considered such as pop and rock and roll originated from the US and both are considered as the biggest influence in those genres. None of them has been labelled the " father of American music" This logically gives a lie to the basis of your contention

HEY IS LIKE YOU CAN NOT UNDERSTAND A SIMPLE ENGLISH NOW READ CHINUA ACHEBE IS THE FATHER OF MODERN AFRICAN LITERATURE NOT FATHER OF AFRICAN LITERATURE

PoliticsRe: Asari Dokubo Sued Over War Threat by ROYALD(m): 12:28pm On May 14, 2013
Remii: This is not to justify violence but personal opinions and clarification
.
Buhai was quoted to have said "monkeys and baboons would be soaked in blood if the results of elections were tampered with". This was interpreted to mean hell will let lose if elections were not free and fair. This is the same as what many other politicians said including Ojukwu, Adams Oshiomole, Jega, Tinubu and many others before the elections.

Asari Dokubo was quoted to have said "There will be war if GEJ was not returned as President in 2015 elections" whether election was fair or not.

These are two different statements. One "IF ELECTION WAS NOT FREE AND FAIR" the other "IF A PARTICULAR PERSON DID NOT WIN ELECTION"

Buhari messed up for not speaking out against killing of innocent children and others during the election violence. As statesman, an elder one for that matter should have denounced the violence while it started.
HEY MAN DO YOU KNOW WHO IS BUHARI

BUHARI HE WARNED: "IF WHAT HAPPENS IN 2011 SHOULD AGAIN HAPPEN IN 2015, BY THE GRACE OF GOD, THE DOG AND THE BABOON WOULD ALL BE SOAKED IN BLOOD."

NOW TELL ME THE MEANING?

CultureRe: I Am Not Igbo, I Am Ikwerre! by ROYALD(m):
Baba4: My husband is proudly Ikwerre and just for the the record he, his father, his mother, his sisters and brothers are the hardest working people I know. Laziness is not a part of their vocabulary. I am also fed up of always, but always having to explain to especially the igbo, that the ikwerre is not an igbo. He has his own distinct culture. Surely they have a right to say who they are and who they are not. I agree with some of the other posters, does it really matter if the ikwerre wants to be part and parcel of another ethnic group? I would have thought that a giant such as the igbo wouldn't give a damn! Why make it a preoccupation?
BABA4 A TRIBE OR ETHNIC IS NOT AN ASSOCIATION THAT ONE CAN WAKE UP ONE MORNING AND REGISTER AS A MEMBER IT IS A LINEAGE WITH BIOLOGICAL AND CULTURAL BACK UP SO YOU CAN NOT CHOSE YOUR TRIBE OR ETHNIC AS YOU DID NOT CHOSE WHO WILL BE YOUR FATHER BEFORE YOU WERE BORN

Allohrandy: I think she be deported to Nigerian immediately..UK governament should not waste their tax payers money on her..She is among those that give Nigerians bad name abroad. She was involved in a sham marriage for immigration purposes. She came to UK on student visa and should have gone back after her visa expired instead of involving in a fake marriage.. Anyway I wish her speed recovery
