What funny contact names have you saved in your phones? Mine 1. Danger 1: He was a relentless toaster I had back in the university, till date I don't know where he got my number. He was a non-Nigerian Phd student at the time and he followed me everywhere. Those days we always had early morning lectures at UMTH(University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital)/so most times I don't eat in the mornings before leaving. When I get hungry, I go to a restaurant within the hospital to eat. This guy would have paid before I was done eating. I'd insist on paying and they would claim they had no change. He called and called promising the whole world. I asked that he tell me who gave him my number but he didn't bulge. He would call and send me all kinds of love text msgs, he continued till I graduated. 2. Danger 2: His 2nd number 3. Don't Pick: there was a time I used to exercise in Ahmadu Bello stadium Kaduna, he is a footballer. We did some exercises together once, he couldn't believe I wasn't a bit interested in him. So he kept calling, I got angry and saved his number as "Don't Pick". This was 8 years ago, do you know this guy still calls that number. 4. Dunno: a number that regularly calls and asks how I am doing, in fact we exchange pleasantries like we know each other way back. I feel terrible I still don't know who he is. 5. Night call: a woman who regularly called me in my school days to convince me to marry her nephew. She was always calling during the night, she never called at day time. Those days of MTN free night calls, you know the weirdest thing, it was my father who gave her my number. 6. I Don't Want: her nephew, at least he only called in the day. 7. I am tired: an airtel customer service number, I blocked. Before I did, it'd call at least 5 times a day. 8. John neighborhood: He was my parents' neighbour before he moved. 9. Man who fears God: House agent, and he really fears God. 10. Crayfish: who I buy crayfish from (I know his name now but I am finding it hard to change it). 11. Fppp: till date, I don't know why I saved this number this way and I don't know who it is. 12. Pot: planning to buy pots from her, but still haven't. 13. Who knows: Just like the name, I know nothing about her/him. PS: Please suggest a hashtag for my Sunday stories |

LETTER TO EMPLOYERS, TEAM LEADS AND MANAGERS Dear Leads and management, I hope this letter finds you well. It is my sincere desire that I get your attention with this letter and that you will put my concerns into consideration. It is difficult for team members to have work-life balance when the team leads, and management do not seek to achieve balance in their own lives. When this is the case, management accepts ridiculous timelines from customers and clients and this cascades to unrealistic expectation from us which in turn shatters the plans, baby steps and progress that we may be making in trying to achieve balance in our life. Please note that the other things we do outside work is what fuels and sponsor our productivity and enthusiasm which translate to excellent performance at work. If you take our other lives and our weekends from us, we will gradually become disgruntled and lose our passion for the job. At the start of our career, our level of need might be survival and being able to pay our bills however, where we are now, what we want is just peace of mind and a better life. Allow me to bring to your attention that most of the time, professionals resign for peace of mind. I don't know how to bring this letter to an end but I really hope and pray for your kind considerations going forward. Best Regards, RJ For: the ever working professionals in different industries and companies. |

Oyindamolah:True, the school am working recently closed the boarding section. |
I have yet to meet a CEO who considers the accounting implications of a transaction while making business choices. I mean one that will ask "what does IFRS or GAAP say about this transaction?" Frankly, IFRS and GAAP matter little in making critical business decisions. This is especially true for small business owners who do not have accounting ability or accountability partners (or board members). They believe the accountants will figure it out. As a result, the accountants are left to pick up the slack. That is fine if everything goes according to plan. Otherwise, two serious issues arise: 1. The accountant may not fully understand the transaction and must be creative to record it. (In small businesses, accountants are typically afraid to press owners to explain transactions, while owners are often certain that they do not have to justify anything.) 2. During the recording process, problems that should have been fixed prior to execution are often detected. It is too late to stop the bleeding. These two scenarios are common in unstructured SMEs. Owners and stewards make these decisions with the best of intentions, regardless of the consequences. The next steps: I do not have all the answers, but here are some insights: 1. Business owners should trust the specialists (including accountants) they have employed to carry out their responsibilities competently and, more importantly, with integrity. 2. Accountants should not simply sit back and wait for orders. They must show capability, competence, initiative, and business savvy. Their supervisors will consider them as financial counsellors rather than bookkeepers as a result. Not easy to implement but worth it. Copied! |

Excerpt from an ex-employee * The materials they use is very very hazardous to human health and can affect you years later * No preventive measures such as safety boots or helmets *That's not even the case, but salary of the staffs is not considered on time and most time your salary would never be complete, there are months we get half pay, other months, a quarter of your salary * Work environment is bad and toxic, for instance on numerous occasions the owner have slapped staff |

I have seen job ads requesting applicants to send their CV via WhatsApp, hence the need to ask Can WhatsApp be used as an official communication? Why do some organization use WhatsApp as official communication? Is there any law in Nigeria stating the medium to be used as an official communication channel? Thank you as you share your thoughts |
