Webmasters / Re: Syskay's Outage: Some Tips For Those Affected. by rufaai(m): 2:35pm On Feb 17, 2013
Dual Core: For the past few days we have seen a flood of complaints about Syskay. Personally I have called all those (who I know) that know the founder, no one is aware of anything and no one has concrete info as to what happened or when this will end. This is like a knockout punch to the Nigerian webhosting industry that has suffered a lot of smaller blows....
Good advice, I guess they're facing some challenges & felt so bad for them. lipsrsealed

We were able to get some access to their failed server to transfer clients out (appeared to be DNS problem) but on deep thought and conversation with few people (I am considering ending this offer). I will update this thread once I confirm clients can restore their sites without migrating (I smell the possibility).

will.i.am:

Before this unfortunate event by syskay, anyone visiting this section would tell you that syskay was regarded as one of the best ( even a poll was conducted to that effect

I have nothing against Syskay, and I personally once mentioned they're good on this forum (from their years of existence). However we are just offering a remedy to suppressed clients at the moment. Businesses hindered, Nothing more!

This is only an option, to be considered or to be overlooked!

Dual Core:
So while the scam site reason is possible, its highly unlikely to be in in Syskay's case.
When they are not responding to their support desk or any email, i wonder how they answer to scam reports! :/
Webmasters / Re: Syskay's Outage - Quick Solution! by rufaai(m): 8:27pm On Feb 16, 2013
soloqy: @OP, you dont have anything personal against Syskay do you? Its good of you offering immediate relief for those whose businesses are suffering but the tone of your post leaves a sore taste in the mouth..

Its not everything we see people doing, that we follow. We have a culture and we endeavor to put a human face to whatever we do including business.

You just took lines out of Namecheap and co chasing after Godaddy customers at the height of Godaddy's public relations troubles last couple of years.
We have nothing against Syskay, except it is bad they are not answering to their customers and their servers are not responding for too long. We choose to offer clients an option for a better service and reliability.
Webmasters / Re: Syskay's Outage - Quick Solution! by rufaai(m): 6:32pm On Feb 16, 2013
zikclassiq: I'll just go and register with godaddy jare
It's your choice...
If GoDaddy will provide you better service and migrate your contents while Syskays is still not answering your support tickets. wink

will.i.am:
Frankly, I have nothing against you trying to land customers from Syskay, but there are better ways of doing it.
Why should anyone listen to you about moving to another nigerian webhost such as yourself, when Syskay that is regarded as one of our best is currently off the grid contact-wise?
Can you convince us that you won't do likewise when we place our websites in your servers?

And I say once again, Really

[s]Who says Syskay is the best host in Nigiera? on what basis? I've not seeing how they're even good!

I will tell you reasons Syskay is worth leaving for GigaLayer:
First we do not operate like they do. We also provide better support service and if you read my post above, we have been in operation since 2007; you've never seeing our customers go mad at us (That's because we do our jobs)

If we are not good Seun would not recommend our service either, a number of other professional developers out there also use our service. We host a lot of big organisations and provide Dedicated Server hosting too.[/s]

ROTFL... Hahahha

@chidi500 @brand_new you guys are baaaad! trying by all means to sell your stuff, the poster is not asking where to move his site. He's trying to reach Syskay.

rewardobi: My 9 websites are not opening and their lines have gone dead since Wednesday. Please anybody in Ibadan have their office details?

@rewardobi well i think they want to focus and get the problem and address it later. It must have been an unavoidable challenge, I can see they're back up already and I hope all your sites are up now.

Sorry for the trauma.

How do I go about it.

Thank you.

You should contact your new host, they should be able to assist you with moving your site from SmartWeb. smiley

yawa-ti-de:
Here are a couple of reasons I have heard over the years:
1) "Let us partner. Whatever money the site makes, you will get 50%. After all, you are the expert"
2) "Don't worry, I know many people. I will refer you to them. Just treat me well and you will get tons of business from me"

What have you been told?

Hahhaha... So we all get these questions?

1) I am a web designer too, I am just busy; I could have done it my self! - (All the I've attended HTML Class guys)
2) Is it not just PHP and CSS? - (The not so cleaver ones who've read what it takes to build a website - Google Child)
3) Is it not just codes, what else does it take? - (Are you kidding me?)
4) I don't have money now, but we will do more projects in the future. - (Seriously dude, you can tell that to the Mayans)
5) I have a very brilliant idea, it will make lots of money; lets work together! - (Okay Mr. Idea Bags, you must be a descendant of Einstein!)

These are just few of what I've gone through... I heard enough and I've quit freelancing for life! undecided

Aaaah it's not easy being a developer. cheesy

Lol that's nice. Little bit of Affiliate business advice for you: Do not appear like you're introducing the whole business from space, tendencies are you're showcasing to people that have heard of the business. Instead, present it as a better option and reasons why!

Avoid going off topic just to sell your affiliate link, find related discussions and participate. Share your affiliate link without being too obvious with it. (Nobody likes being sold) Goodluck buddy. grin
Webmasters / Re: . by rufaai(m): 10:07am On Feb 08, 2013
@ActiveMan I mentioned 'Team' you can't overlook that of-course, no matter how awesome the idea is. The team matters alot. Look for someone or team with track record and an awesome startup. You gotta do some work though! wink

Often Investment in it's self is a business too! cheesy
Webmasters / Re: . by rufaai(m): 6:26am On Feb 08, 2013
@ActiveMan Not really that a startup has to publicly seek funding before it gets investment. Investement can happen behind the scene (angel investment & seed funding). But like the name implies, it mostly comes from people within the circle of the founders of which if you are in, wouldnt have to come to Nairaland to ask if they need funds!

The bottom line is, most profitable startups already in operation may not seek funding & may also turn down public offers. That you may want to read more about online.

You can already see that as TruDigis has answered, not seeking funding and I'm 99% sure you would get the same answer from VoguePay/Eyowo unless you are an Investment Firm willing to give them $1m. cool

Like I mentioned earlier, you need to look at new ideas and team then give them funding.
Webmasters / Re: Is It Possible To Build Ecommerce Site On Blogger? by rufaai(m): 11:10pm On Feb 07, 2013
My Question is why Blogger The sooner you start thinking of other opensource CMS like WordPress, the better for you.

Cheers.
Webmasters / Re: . by rufaai(m): 11:04pm On Feb 07, 2013
ActiveMan:
Yes, if not all 20% will do me.... grin cheesy wink

Well VoguePay is not seeking funding, or even Eyowo! Both are backed by very lucrative companies. However, you may want to invest in new startups with bright profitable ideas, great team and the comitment to make a success instead.

I think you should ask for startups seeking funding within your budget, then study and have meetings with the bright ones. Then fund them for a stake.

Webmasters / Re: Which Is Better .com Or .com.ng by rufaai(m): 10:54pm On Feb 07, 2013
swift25: hello guys, pls help me out here, which is better to register a .com or a .com.ng

Well .com is Top-Level Domain while .com.ng Country-code Domain; your choice of use depends on you. .COM has global recognition. But if your Business targets Nigeria, .com.ng may be good for you .co.ke if you're looking at Kenya for example.

So, the choice mainly depends on your business. But you may also consider buying the .com either ways!
Webmasters / Re: . by rufaai(m): 3:06pm On Feb 07, 2013
cool Lol you want to buy VoguePay?
Webmasters / Re: I'm In Trouble. I Need A Solution. by rufaai(m): 12:23pm On Feb 07, 2013
@Slyr0x you can still push it to frontpage. Someone out there may also benefit.

@GraphixPlus with GTBank, you can also download their card application form online, fill it (signed) and send to customercare@gtbank.com complains@gtbank.com

On the form you can fill a delivery address for the new card. I think they can send it to you up where you are (with charges).

Consider Facebook Comment widget and DisQus widget.

Webmasters / Re: [urgent] Webhost Needed, Should Be Able To Transfer My Whole Site And Domain. by rufaai(m): 9:21am On Feb 05, 2013
You may want to condisider GigaLayer.com, your site will be transfered for you effortlessly. Customer service is unbeatable.

OR Adisably:

Web4Africa, QServers, Syskay, SBOHost & WhoGoHost.
Webmasters / Re: Help! Having Problem Purchasing Wordpress Domain by rufaai(m): 2:00pm On Feb 02, 2013
Well Wordpress doen't accept Nigerians yet for premium domain hosting. You two options:

1) Buy domain from thirdparty and mask it to your *. url OR

2) Move out of wordpress for a self hosted WP on your own domain/hosting account.

I will advice you go for the latter, because of so much benefits associated with it (eg SEO)

You may consider GigaLayer for the hosting, our support desk can assit you with the Migration from WordPress for your contents and settings.
Webmasters / Re: Pros And Cons Of Hosting And Registering A Site On Same Platform Eg Bluehost by rufaai(m): 1:50pm On Feb 02, 2013
It doesn't make anysense, domain names can be transfered anytime anyday if you are unsatisfied with the serivce.

Even your website can be transfered. Just be sure to pick a good host and not those individual reseller guys who wont be reachable or wont release your domain.

Consider any of these:

Web4Africa, GigaLayer, WhoGoHost, Syskay, SBOHost, QServers or TruDigits.

Webmasters / Re: Most Nigerian Website Owners Allow Their Domains To Expire: Why? by rufaai(m): 3:19am On Feb 02, 2013
Two things mostly: 1) Payment difficulties and 2) Negligence.

Making payments online Nigeria is a pain in the *ss. So far one cannot tie his orders to auto renew with his card. Thanks to Interswich for making that impossible!

It is always good to register domain names for morethan 1yr and ensure the domain owner knows how and when next to renew the domain. A reminder would be crucial too.

At GigaLayer, developers can add multiple billing contact for invoices, reducing the risks mentioned by @yawa-ti-de
